WORST INTERNET EVER! I got suckered into saving a few bucks by switching from a ten year long account with Cox Communications. CenturyLink had 40Mbps internet in my area (NW of Gilbert and Guadalupe) which was about what I had with Cox and they could save me 40 bucks. I figured, why not? DSL has to have improved since the 90's right? They were bragging about bringing in fiber to the area and they ran that old yarn about how cable internet was shared internet while theirs was a dedicated line, which is about as wrong as it is old but hey, whatever right? Internet was okay for a few months, then I bought a house across the street (NE Gilbert and Guadalupe) and apparently their awesome fiber upgrade only covered a small area because now I could only get 20Mbps and it was the lousiest connection you can imagine. Their dinky little modem/router could barely get WiFi signal across my house and even in the next room my streaming sucked. Unfortunately, I was stuck in a contract and didn't feel like paying the early-termination fees. Finally, my term was up just this last month and they were going to DOUBLE my payment to 85 bucks a month for lousy 20Mbps internet while Cox could bring me 150Mbps internet for only a few dollars more! I jumped at the chance to switch and cancelled last week. I was told EXPLICITLY on the phone when I cancelled that I would not need to worry about the bill. Of course, I was on Autopay and if CenturyLink can get their grubby little hands on your money, that's exactly what they do. I worked with a customer service rep online (Joaqualon D.) who insisted that if there was a balance due that the bill needed to be paid. So, here I am posting single star reviews until they give me back my money since they lied to me on the phone. It seems they don't really care though since most of their Yelp listings have a single star or WORSE! To the reviewer who thought he was getting great internet for 36 bucks a month, so, How's that 85 dollar bill treating you, bet you wish you'd stuck with Cox's 74 bucks a month huh? read more

I'm giving a 1 star because I can't give zero. They have no good customer service. Talking to tech support for very slow speeds (half of what I pay for) and they start telling me that I can't have so many devices connected or it will slow down my service. Ummm. No their commercials claim all the speed you need for ALL your devices not 1-2. I asked her to stay on the phone while I restarted my computer so I could check to see if they fixed my slow speeds from my side. So she says let me place you on a quick hold and then throws me into the help Q line. Lousy service lousy people. read more

I've been a customer for a little over a month. If there were any other providers I would have signed with them. This has been the worst customer service I've ever seen. They put you on hold for 15 minutes then transfer you to someone else. I have even spoken to supervisors who say they can't help me. Hands down, WORST service experience I have had in the last 5 years. The managers in the call center are inept, with a total lack of knowledge of their own product. All that they want to do is argue with you. Had the pleasure of speaking with Jose today, and he did not know what modem I had...what modem they were offering..what service was available. Save yourself the trouble, time, and money and go with a service that has a true interest in quality and service. We will be looking elsewhere for a provider, as this one is JUST terrible. You would think that after 7 YEARS of being a loyal customer, I would at MINIMUM receive respect when I call in about troubleshooting issues and product quality issues. Were 4 months into service with Century Link and have never had so many problems, dealt with so much incompetence, and been lied to so many times by any company we have ever dealt with. Where to begin...We set up an appointment to have internet set up. Technician shows up and tells us he can't set it up and they will need to come back in a couple days. 2 weeks go by and numerous phone calls and they finally come and figure out the issue. We finally have internet. We were promised a $600 prepaid gift card that would mail out after 1 month. 3 months go by and nothing has shown. Call 3 or 4 times and finally get someone who gets a card sent out as promised. Our bills are always different amounts. We paid almost $300 this month and am in the process of disputing charges and talking to numerous "customer service" specialists. Everything we have tried to accomplish with this company has been screwed up to the point where I think the company needs to be renamed Idiot Link. They have 35 different phone numbers for 35 different departments, and none of them know what they are doing. We're going back to COX as soon as our disputes are finalized. COX sucks, but it's 24 karat gold compared to these morons. read more

Signed up for internet only service which was fine for the first month. then we got disconnected, don't know why. called and spent two hours on the phone, talking with several different people in tech support, customer service. Centurylink disconnected my account and service, no real reason why. I kept getting transferred to different people and they dropped or disconnected me three times. Very frustrating. Said I was a "simple account' customer, which means some customer service can't see details or help me. I'm a CenturyLink customer, customer service should be able to help me. How Centurylink wants to classify accounts is their internal business, I don't care. When I call customer service, they should be able to handle my questions and issues. Now I have to set up a new account and wait 4 more days for someone to turn on service, which I already had! Very frustrating! read more

Worst customer service in my life. If you order from them, don't count on their installer to show up on time or at all. You might even get mine who showed up 40 minutes late, sat in his truck for five minutes, then drove away reporting to his dispatcher that no one was home. They are trying to charge me $100 on a modem i sent back 3 months ago. They made me open a new acct after i was late on a bill. So they had to send me a new modem. Why??? Who flippin knows. I am about fed up with this company. When I signed up for their service four years ago it was right in the middle of their pricelock promotion, of course my bill has only continued to grow. That's not even what this review is for, though. A month ago I revised my services. I increased my internet speed and was supposed to also increase my cable package. The technicians came to set up the internet with new modem and everything. One was in training and did his best to be polite and professional. The man training him was very rude. He was on his phone the entire time, he sat on my bed without permission and he attempted to take a phone call while walking into my nine-year-old daughter's bedroom, a place he ABSOLUTELY had no business being in. They took three hours and did not upgrade my cable package. I contacted Centurylink and told them that my cable had not been upgraded. I was told I would receive a $10 discount on my account for a year to make up for it and that they would fix this. They did not. I have now attempted to get the upgrade fixed three times and am still without the service. I was told today to contact them tomorrow to fix it because the people who are capable of that are not currently in the office. Fine. But at this point we are going on four attempts and over a month of waiting. I will be expecting further discounts or I will be canceling my service. They can refund my payment for October where I did not receive the level of service I paid for and I will use that money as a security deposit for Cox. Read less read more

As the other users the customer service is a joke! I promise you all patience will be lost when you have to call them. We had to cancel our internet as we are moving and it's not in their coverage zone. I called them and it literally tool 2 hours to cancel the service. I called them yesterday and told them specifically that I wanted it turned off on Friday and got a verbal confirmation from the tech. Guess what? Today at 6pm they turned off our internet. Their office hours close at 6pm. So I went through the online chat to be told sorry but your shit out of luck call back during business hours. Seriously??? It's your mistake and dumb idea to end service at the end of business. To top it off the internet sucked it general, it kept going out or having very slow speeds constantly. But since you're on a contract you have days that you just have to adapt paying 70 bucks a month for shitty/no service. read more

Yep! THE WORST customer service!! I have never been treated so horribly, not just once, each time you call. A year ago yet screwed up our bill, finally got it fixed now it $100 more again! I figured out 36.99 of the increase only to find out my 1st year savings expired so now I pay another $40 for Internet for $97 per month!!! Still issuing $20!!! What's that from? So I experienced an agent in the billing department hang up on me because I asked him to go over my bill and explain where another $20 came from. He flat out said, "I'm not going over each line of your bill!l. I was in the queue for over 35 minutes and went past their hours and pretty sure he was looking for any excuse to hang up on me, I said "century link sucks at explaining bills". He hung up!!! This is THE worst company ever... CenturyLink took money out of my bank account for a whole year and now is refusing to refund it back to me. I literally have been dealing with this for the past three months and have talk to probably about 20 different customer service reps! Each time I speak to someone I have to start my story from the beginning just to have them either transfer me to another person or hang up on me. I am so upset. Defiantly the worst service you can get in my area. Unfortunately it's the only service I can get at my apartment. At any peak hour your signal is slowed to a near halt. The router they provide you has the wireless capability of that of my iron... in that if its not plugged in (Ethernet cable) it won't work. Don't not even hassle with this company. As others said it buffers and skips ahead. I actually just to watch tv after a 12 hour shift grave had to sit on the phone at least 2x a week going through a script that I could recite word by word . And accountability????? What a joke. They always try to say it is on my side and it was my modems which never was the problem, And at the end results as another person states, they charge for equipment before 30 days in which as soon as I was disconnected that same day I went to Fed ex and got a tracking number as well. With that you would assume I covered myself but these people just tell you I cannot find the return call back. When they did find it 2 weeks later and my card was billed for equipment. I was issued a credit 90 days later. Isn't that a loan off my money and I did not even get to -charge them interest. I have no words for these unprofessional people just a warning. And by the way I had Century Link for many years and was a person that auto paid and never late on anything including return of their equipment. So I am not a person that is constantly late with payment and consider myself a great customer on my end just wished these guys did the same. Oh and the 39.99 pkg I was suppose to be on and could take it with me where I went turns out the lowered my speed in the area I moved to and punished me for now running off a lower speed and new pkg so my price went up and my speed went down. Do NOT get Century Link. They have the worst customer service and it's a company who is only after your money. There were MANY situations where I had to overpay. And it wasn't a $35 fee, I'm talking about 100's. I got fed up with their service and switched over to Cox. I had the bundle deal with Direct TV. I was under the impression that that since I had the bundle my services for both Cable and Internet would disconnect. Century link failed to contact me even though they had my phone number and email. Instead they kept charging me until the bill racked up $800. No contact from century link was ever done, the collection agency was the one that contacted me. I tried calling Century Link to see why I was being charged so much, NOBODY could help me. Since it had been a year that I wasn't with Century Link they couldn't pull up my account. I was legit transferred 8 times! I even spoke to a specialist who then transferred me BACK to customer service. At that point I knew century link was USELESS, so I made a dispute with my collection agency and they cleared the full $800. $800 is a ridiculous amount for Internet service that is less that $50. read more

Without question, the worst run company in the country! Zero customer service and the bundle package with the second worst run company in the country, Direct TV, is horrible. Neither company can figure out who is in charge of billing and repeatedly make it the customer's problem to figure it out for them. I had to demand a conference call with the 2 parties every time there was a billing issue (which in my last 2 years with them was about 6 times)! My contract period is finally over and I could not cancel both services fast enough! Now, 2.5 months later still waiting on my refunds for their billing snafus and getting tagged with $150+ failure to return equipment fees even after I told them I would return their crap equipment once I received my money that they were earning interest on. Nice job, Century Link! Kudos on your superb ability to make me FOREVER a non-customer and for ALWAYS a hater of your "company" and "product." Will put you on blast any chance I get moving forward! I've been a customer with centurylink for two years and I waist every month hours calling them to correct every single bill I receive from them. Unfortunately its the only option I have in my area and luckily im moving to another city soon so I'll disconnect this crappy service immediately. NOT RECOMMMENDED at all, if you want headache in your life get centurylink crap, and every single month you'll get a different amount and it varies from $40-200, and you'll spend long hours every month calling them. read more

Okay, surprise! I'm giving them a GOOD review. After seeing all the negative ones on here, I can agree with a lot of what is said, but check out all the other Cable & Internet services and they ALL get negative reviews. We have had CenturyLink Prism for our TV and also their internet service since the first day it became available in our area. (Gilbert, AZ) Our internet is only 15 which consistently tests out at about 12. But for some reason, the speed and reliability has been perfect! Never been down, and we can have 2 grandkids on their ipads playing games, my husband and I both on OUR ipads, and also my daughter on her smartphone and ipad, AND watching Netflix.....all at the same time - with no buffering or slow speeds on anything! So I don't know why we are getting such good internet service, but I am not about to take any chances and switch, that's for sure. As for the Prism TV service, it does have its moments, screen freezes about 5 seconds every once in a while, which can be annoying, & every once in a while we have to reset their box, but no big deal. Terrific HD picture quality. Price goes up on the bill about every month, but then everybody complains about that on every service. My last month's bill was $125 for internet and TV, and this month it jumped to $135. We have had their service for so long that we are no longer on any discount service, so I am still sticking with Centurylink for now. After reading complaints & talking to neighbors about their Cox or their DirectTV I am really scared to switch. Like they say, If it ain't broke, don't fix it ! read more

The customer service at centurylink gives new meaning to the word incompetent. Service was fine but when your "specials" run out be prepared for your bill to go up a little and then completely DOUBLE. Then when you go to disconnect service they will complete acre that up by not disconnecting, send you a new modem, continue to bill you expecting you to pay and then return the extra modem "their system defaults to mail out." When you try to disconnect and then resolve further centurylink created problems you will spend hours with calls dropping bw transfers, being transferred and being kept on hold for a rep! I honestly can say this is by far the worst company I've had to deal with (after becoming a customer). I should also mention that 100 visa gift card I was to get 4-6 wks after having service never did arrive and like many things these days dealing with all the bs rather than spend hrs hashing it over I've had to say f-it! I switched from Cox because I was fed up with them. Big mistake. CenturyLink makes Cox look like a shining example of integrity and efficiency. Here are the highlights of my horror story: June 20, 2016, ordered service. Rate was $119/month plus $40 installation and they sent nice email documenting it all. Install set for Thursday p.m. So far so good. Have daughter wait Thursday p.m. and no call, no show. Install guy showed up Friday p.m. and someone happened to be there. Install done. Try to use TV in bedroom that night and it doesn't work. Spend 1/2 hour on phone with support and got it fixed. Next week, internet comes and goes. Spend hour on phone with support and it works better now. Got first bill (actually three separate bills for some reason) and they total $330. Spend hour on phone until I got someone with a brain who got it fixed. Or so I thought. Got second bill (actually two separate bills, one for TV and one for internet) and they total $165. Spend hour on phone until the last person agreed to issue credit down to $119, but she did so purely out of the goodness of her heart because she said my charges were correct. Never mind the initial email as she didn't want me to forward that to her. Oh, and somewhere in there I spent 1/2 hour on phone with a woman from Ghana who finally got my phone number attached to my account, although I don't know how because I only understood 25% of what she said.
