I love tasting menus period. Chefs get pigeon holed in their cuisine by their restaurants. Tasting menus give them an opportunity to show you they are greater than their daily menu. Chef Travis showed us how incredible he is. He prepared a 5 course tasting menu that was paired with Don Fulano Tequila. Course after course was amazing. Light tender delicious scallops were ceviched in a papaya broth and served with tiny diced avocado, seared Pearl onions, jalapeño, cilantro and herb oil. Paired perfectly with a light crisp Blanc. I asked for leftovers to take home but there were none. I want this dish to appear on future menus. Elote Risotto, risotto with pieces of cotija cheese, topped with fresh grilled corn and a hint of fresh squeezed lemon. Yes, perfection. Served with Reposado. The duck barbacoa taco with tomatillo salsa on a blue corn tortilla was equally amazing. The smoky Fuerte cocktail was another perfect combination. Starting to get full, then the incredible tender pink rack of lamb was served. Nestled in a deep rich mole and lime yogurt swirl. Devine together. A little Añejo was the pairing here. Then dessert. Ancho chocolate mousse with a mango purée, tequila meringue (because there wasn't enough tequila in our night already), topped with a pepita cocoa nib tuile. But the Imperial or Extra Añejo served with it is a new favorite. Tequila that was aged in French limousine and Oloroso Sherry casks, created a slightly sweet whiskey light sipper. This bottle usually sells for $175 to 200. Fabulous evening with friends as we enjoyed each course and pairing. Huge kudos to the staff for their amazing service. So close to 5 stars but I need to go in a few more times. First of all, the ambiance...it's cool and it's "cozy". Not alot of tables, but they do have bar seating. We were seated right away on a Saturday night. We wanted tapas and cocktails and Centro delivers! Because people were seating next to us, I didn't take pictures of every dish because they acted uptight about it. I wanted to say "Hey I yelp! I help people decide where they are going to go for dinner or drinks with these pics and thoughts". We started with signature cocktails. Delish and unique! Then we ordered brussels sprouts, potatoes, chicken, sticky ribs. Oh my gosh, the sprouts were crispy and tender at the same time! That sauce on the chicken was to die for. The potatoes were amazing. GLUTEN-FREE FRIED CHICKEN!! I don't know any other places in Reno with GF fried chicken! I've never actually written a review for Centro because I was always underwhelmed by the food and the gluten-free options were minimal. This was despite going there occasionally because the space is so cozy and cute and the location convenient. However, I learned that there is a new owner/Chef and the menu has evolved for the better! While keeping some of the things that were always there. There are so many gluten-free choices now because the fryer is 100% GF and they are using cornstarch and GF flour! There is some hidden soy in a few things but the Chef is super knowledgeable. Everything we had was amazing and I can't wait to go back to try everything. I'm excited about all these things that are GF (there are others too): Fried Chicken, Fried Artichokes, Brussel sprouts, the Pan fried Corvina with rice cakes and bokchoy, grilled octopus, beet salad, roasted harissa carrots, hamachi, lemon tart, and almond cake. Sounds like the menu changes frequently so these exact things might not be there and the menu isn't marked Gluten Free because of the changes. But I'm guessing it will all be as good! read more

We made reservations which was a good thing because the place was busy. The front of house staff was super friendly and she got us a hightop table at the front. It was a tight squeeze in terms of spacing between tables. We asked to be moved to the back patio if it was available. Our server said we could sit out front but that table was smaller. The nice woman at the front said she'd grab a chair and get us a table out back. The table was a lil bigger but more importantly we had space around us and didn't feel cramped. We ordered a lot of their small plates that were quite delicious, but definitely pricey. After we placed our order the server came back to tell us one of the dishes we ordered is no longer available along with a couple other items on their menu. It took a while for our server to come over and take our food and drink order. To be fair she was busy, but every time she came to our table she didn't seemed thrilled to take our order. Everything else seemed pretty great, but our server just didn't seem very friendly. I would go back for the food. The three stars is given more for the vibe of the server. Came here before a show at the Pioneer Center for a drink and a couple of bites, and it was great to hit happy hour at that time! I really appreciate the weekend happy hour; I know it's small plates/tapas style and they're meant to be shared, but I still think they're a bit pricey for the amount of food that you get. It would have to be special occasion and a splurge to come when it's not happy hour. That said, the food was great! My favorite was the white truffle aioli on the bruschetta. I appreciate that they have a good amount of vegetarian/pescatarian options. The beer selection was decent, I switched to beer since I didn't love the house chardonnay. What I like best about this spot is the ambiance and the bar decor. I looove the large windows, it practically feels like you're sitting outside. It's small, but cozy and comfortable. My only regret is not finding this gem sooner! The tapas here are delightful & sharable portions. Every bite was smooth and savory. This Tapa house is new, cool, and sexy. Can I say that? They have a bar, intimate seating inside and a patio out back. The patio is heated and has a tent around for the cold seasons. Finally made it to Centro in Midtwn and had the most amazing dinner. My husband and I love to share so we can sample more foods and these small plates make it so easy. We ordered 4 plates and ended up having leftovers as they're decent portions. First of all the location is very charmingly decorated with some fun art. We sat near the front which is open to the outside so it felt like a happy medium to patio and indoor dining. This restaurant is busy so reservations are recommended. I started with the fig old fashioned which was beautifully made and my husband loved his mocktail. The fried artichokes with a lemon aioli was our first dish-so good! Tomato burrata was our 2nd dish-heirloom tomatoes with a delicious olive oil, burrata cheese, anchovies and served with Beloved's Bread (one of our favorite local bakeries). Short ribs with a chimichurri sauce and a mixed slaw was next-so tender and flavored beautifully. The filthy potato's was our last dish-perfectly crisped potatoes, bratwurst, bacon, jalapeños all in a creamy white cheese sauce-this was so enjoyable, my new favorite comfort food. We were so full after this dinner but we had to make room for the pistachio panna cotta which is seasonal. I believe this was one of the best desserts I've ever had. The custard was so creamy with perfect pistachio flavor topped with fresh raspberries/sauce and crunchy pistachio pieces. Everything about this dinner was so fresh, prepared so well and with perfect flavoring pairings. You can tell how talented the Chef is and his touch shows in everything. Visited 3/30/24 This place is absolutely amazing!! The staff is very nice and helpful. 10000% hands down to the chef, I did not expect the food to be this good! Being from southern California where majority of the food is amazing. I was really shocked about this place in Reno. We ordered the chef special for the day and it was a shrimp plate with crispy polenta and a roasted pepper sauce. When I say this was the best, it was great! I wanted to order 10 more. I also love how the portions are small so you're able to try multiple things on the menu and not be stuck with a full plate of 1 dish. It started snowing out while we were there and the staff turned on space heaters and pointed them towards us so that we weren't cold and able to enjoy our visit. I was recommended to get the grapefruit guava cider...... it was the best, refreshing not too sweet and you get a little tipsy. We will be returning every chance we get. We had been hearing good things about Centro for quite some time now and thought we would stop in to give it a try. It was mid afternoon and we were not very hungry so we settled on a few of there many signature cocktails. Turns out that one of the bartenders comes up with a lot of the cocktails and I have to say she is very creative with her flavors and names. My wife had the Centro Fig Old Fashioned and I tried the Toasted Pecan Manhattan. Both were very tasty and we would recommend them. Our server Natalie was very knowledgeable about the cocktails, menu, wine selection and even introduced us the the chief. Last night I had my birthday dinner with my family at Centro. We've been there before and they never disappoint! The food was AMAZING as well as the service and setting. The Brussels sprouts were so good even my 10 and 12 year olds loved them and told me "Mom you need to learn to make Brussels sprouts like these!" We ordered a large array of items and loved all of them, including the octopus, beets, corvina and many others. The staff gave me a very nice birthday card with personalized messages, which was very special and I could tell they truly care about their customers. I've driven by this restaurant for yearssss-- so I'm excited I finally got to try it with a group of friends! The location has an urban industrial vibe. I love the glass garage door opening that connects the street with the inside. The menu is small, but mighty. I especially liked that the menu already includes the tax in its pricing, so you know exactly what the bill will come out to be and it's a whole number! As a group of 5, we ordered 9 plates, 4 drinks, and 2 desserts. Our total came out to $244 (roughly $49 per person before tip) and we each left full! Our server was so kind and patient with us. We took 10 minutes solely deciding drinks and she was extremely accommodating! My top three dishes would have to be the octopus, NY strip, and fried artichoke hearts! The octopus was not chewy, the steak had an amazing crust, and the artichoke had the perfect amount of lemon. The other dishes were nice, but salmon was a bit too sweet, and the fries are great for a hangover-- but are rather heavy. As for drinks, we ordered 2 cocktails and 2 mocktails. The toasted pecan manhattan was personally too strong for my taste, but I like that they infuse the bourbon themselves! Currently, there are two dessert options to choose from and I'd recommend the panna cotta! The limoncello almond cake was delicious, but the sorbet on top took away from it in my opinion. Overall, we had an amazing time! It was a nice change of pace from the usual restaurants we go to and it's the perfect place to chit-chat. The dishes do not all come out at once- more so one after the other, so you are able to talk through all the rabbit holes of a conversation. The food was very good. My favorite was the Brie and Pear Flatbread. Super yummy. The cauliflower was quite good, as was the Centro Salad. The drinks were yummy as well, very refreshing. I had the Royal Glow. The service was good, and the restaurant was clean, intimate, and comfortable. They also have cover outside seating, which looked very nice. We sat inside to be in air conditioning as it was in the high 90s when we went. I thought the dessert were small for the price, and they weren't my cup of tea. The lemoncillo almond cake was good, the others none of us at our table cared for too much. Came later on a Saturday night. They got us right in. We love small plates tapas. Bruschetta was fantastic! Tuna with orange segments and fried shallots was delicate with complex flavor. Sticky ribs were a little too spicy and over sauced. Brussel sprouts were really good but they ran out of bacon so they made them for us with house made bratwurst, tasty. Shrimp poboy was really good! I LOVED the components of the steak but the meat it's self was tough. Matcha panna cotta was really good with black sesame chips. Service was great! Tried out Centro while visiting Reno for the weekend. Most things were excellent, a few could be improved. First of all, the atmosphere is great with fun music and cool art on the walls, but we were lucky to get a table (our fault for not making a reservation) and ended up seated at a tiny table in a corner where we felt like the kid who got in trouble and had to stand with their nose in the corner. It's just a really poor table placement. There was another couple opposite of us in the same situation and you could tell it was just as awkward for them. Probably need to just remove those tables and put one in the center where the window is. The drinks were great! We ordered the Feisty Bee and the Wildfire. Both were fun and delicious. Beware of the Wildfire if you can't handle heat. It has actual spice to it (awesome!). For food we started with the Korean beef taco special, followed by Burrata Nut, NY Strip, Ahi Crudo, and lastly the Octopus. Everything was great, but the red bean paste on the ahi crudo was my best bite. So very good. For dessert we ordered the flourless chocolate cake and the donuts. The donuts were hot and delicious, everything I had hoped for, but the flourless chocolate cake was definitely disappointing. It was tough and over-baked to the point where you cannot cut down through the layers with your fork. The peanut butter mousse was tasty, but a really wimpy consistency. Whatever other cream filling thing was in there was watery and sour, and did not help the situation. It stinks that was the last thing we tried because everything else was so good, but fortunately we still had a donut on the plate, so we just left the nasty chocolate thing and shared the last donut and left happy. read more

Late lunch and it was way too much food... So we wanted to just do some Tapas today. Quality/Quantity - Octopus - Very tender, not a complaint but I usually prefer a crispy outer skin with keeping the current tenderness. The Hibiscus Pickled Romanesco & Fennel was the highlight of my meal. Beets - Good, plated well, but just not enough. I know tapas are supposed to be small... And I would have preferred more beets versus the other stuff. Filthy Fries - The bacon and sausage were more of the highlight of this dish vs the potatoes. I like the small potatoes, but felt if they were cut fries, it would have taken this dish to the next level. Again, not a complaint, I like the creativity and uniqueness of your dishes. The pickled jalapeños were the real highlight of this dish. Sticky ribs - Home run, if I can be greedy, can I suggest the sprinkled white noodles on both sides of the rib? Bone Marrow - The couple next to us at the bar got this and I regret NOT getting it. Very generous portions and of Vietnam flavors, it looked great. They also have happy hour, see picture. We will be back for that at minimum! Atmosphere - Small local business. Indoor/outdoor space, as they have "garage" doors as walls. I believe they also have a tented heated outdoor space. Street parking. Open 5 days a week from 3pm to 9pm or 10pm, see Yelp or website. Closed Sundays & Mondays. Service - Hillary, the manager, bartender, waitress, etc was the best. What a great people person! She is also from the Bay Area. Very hard worker, professional, etc. Price - $61 + generous tip. I will note that the portions are very small so I would recommend at least 2-3 dishes per person for dinner which can be pretty expensive! - Beet El Chapo 10/10: One of the best drinks I've had in a while. A wonderful blend of earthy, smokey, and spicy. The beet color was so beautiful too! -Burrata Nut 9/10: Such a yummy fall dish! I am still drooling over the creamy pumpkin and burrata combination. The crostinis were a bit too crunchy for my taste but the rest of the dish was absolutely incredible. -Centro Takoyaki 10/10: These were so delicious. The perfect amount of flakey, crunchy outer shell with a tender, doughy inside. I really appreciated the addition of the chili thread. *chef's kiss* -Sticky Ribs 9/10: So tender and delicious. The meat just fell off the bone.The sauce was so good that we asked for a side of it and that really made the dish. I loved the crunch of the fried rice noodles on the outside! -Scallops 9/10: The scallops were so succulent and the flavor profile was very unique. I wouldn't expect Thai curry and plantains to go well together but it was excellent. I did notice a bitter aftertaste which I didn't care for but the initial flavors were amazing. Tapas style restaurants are my absolute favorite way to eat with smaller, shared items so you can try a little bit of everything and this restaurant knocks it out of the park. The service was great - my friend and I sat at the bar and our bartender was perfectly attentive and joined in on conversation. The food was also so tasty! We got the burrata and heirloom & centro salad to start - even though they are tapas style there was still plenty of food for two people! And that burrata with the basil oil - wow, seriously was dipping every last bit of bread in there. We also got the grilled salmon too by great recommendation of our server, which was fantastic. When I tell you I was extremely saddened by the closure of the Rancharrah location of Centro, it would be an understatement. That location was a frequent stop for my family and I and absolutely adored everything about it. I know this is the first location but still holds a place in my foodie heart! Centro in midtown is chic and has a great vibe. It's a smaller restaurant in size and parking can have it's challenges. HIGHLY recommend reservations. Even if you don't think they're going to be busy, my experience is they are likely busy and if you don't want to sit at the bar or in a two top on the corner, just make the reservation. They have a great tapas menu. Night we went that's pictured, there were 4 adults and 1 child. We ordered about 2-3 of each tapa that we knew the table would be eating. If only one or two of us we ordered one portion of it. There wasn't an item we didn't try that wasn't decadent and served to perfection.
