Central Wharf Co in Boston MA
Bruce K.

Two short blocks from the touristy areas of Faneuil Hall, Central Wharf is a nice sit-down restaurant with a lot of charm. Clearly aiming for a waterside theme, the restaurant is decorated with portholes and aged wood. I'm not sure the point of the three-foot-tall "SALTY" in the dining room but it's okay. We got the pretzel and a shrimp pizza to start. The pretzel was nice, served with a small pot of a beer cheese sauce for dipping. The shrimp pizza ended up being the short rib pizza and when we mentioned it, the waitress took both off our check with no problem. The short rib was good but light on meat and heavy on onions. I wouldn't recommend it. The shrimp pizza, when it arrived, was excellent. A white sauce with a good amount of seafood and halved cherry tomatoes. We enjoyed it. For main course, I ordered the lobster roll. A disappointment as it was nearly as much onion and celery as it was lobster meat. Too much mayo. The hand-made chips were not hot and were overly crunchy. I wouldn't have this again. Other than the wrong pizza, we did have to remind our waitress to refresh our drinks. As we were charged $2.50 each for a Coke and a soda water, more than one would be good. It's a nice restaurant in a nice part of the financial district. It's just A-OK for me. Lobster Roll
Blake F.

After a nice long walk on the Freedom Trail in Boston, I decided to stop off at Central Wharf Co. for a nice, quick bite to eat for lunch. I came on a Sunday afternoon and the restaurant was not packed, but they still were pretty crowded with plenty of people left after getting brunch. The brunch menu was still available once I arrived, but I decided to order from their dinner menu. The restaurant is nicely decorated with plenty of booth seating, a bar and tons of TV showing all types of sports events. I wasn't too hungry so I passed on the appetizer and I decided to just get their lobster roll because you always have to try a few while you are visiting New England. I also chose to get it warmed up with butter. The lobster roll came out very fast and it was excellent. The roll was very soft and tasty while the lobster had the perfect amount of firmness and had plenty of flavor. I also got a nice side of chips and I could definitely tell they were homemade and very tasty. Throughout my entire experience, my water was very kind, professional and courteous. Altogether, Central Wharf Co. is a very good and convenient restaurant in the heart of Boston.

Rum swizzle

Central Wharf is surrounded by so many bars/pubs and can be easily obscured by them. However, it has its charm and the decor has their brick 19th century industrial feel to it. Showing up here for an event, I went over to the bar to grab a drink first. The rum swizzle here was decent, as it proved to be refreshing for an oppressively hot day. The bartender was friendly and polite. The food was a mixed bag here. The cheeseburger slider was dry and barely edible. The flatbread pizzas here, however, were quite venerable. I enjoyed the margarita, as there was a good balance of basil and tomato. The pulled pork was tender and had a decent sauce.

I was in here for about 30 minutes, but it gets a 5. Why? Not only did the bartender put cinnamon on the rim of my pumpkin beer, but when I asked how he does that, he walked me through the whole process. With a ton of exuberance on top of that! Place was super cool, fancy on one side, chill on the other. Next time I am in Boston I will definitely swing through here again. He put cinnamon on the rim of my glass!!

A-Ok. So much so that I'm even teetering on the brink of 3.5 stars. Great bartenders. Personable, friendly. Things I like in the men pouring my wine. The food was just ok. I had a burger, nothing special. I mean it satisfied my craving for beef that night but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here again. My friend's oysters we're shucked poorly so there were a couple tiny bits of shell. And they weren't great oysters either. Great atmosphere, nice decor. Couldn't really pinpoint the crowd though. Given the location, I expected more suits and button down shirts, but it was a very casual group... Jeans, t shirts.

Wharf burger and penne pasta!

I went to central wharf co right after the aquarium and I have to say I genuinely enjoyed everything about this. The place was beautiful, lively, and decorated very well. I loved the windows off the frame and open plan. The hostess was so pleasant along with our waitress. The manager or owner (not sure the title) frequently checked on us and had a great attitude. Customers around us seemed very happy. The boneless wings were great. I ordered a wharf burger that had a special sauce on it that was great. The burger was excellent. It's so easy to make a decent burger that people will enjoy but this one was not decent. It was fantastic and that is not easy to do. My girlfriend ordered the penne pasta which looked and tasted wonderful. We loved the $2 Coronas and the view outside. I don't think I could include a negative comment if I tried. 10/10.

Oysters 2 ways: Rockefeller & Goldwater

Central Wharf Co is a fantastic spot for anyone who wants to have a relaxing time - whether for a good meal or just to chill with a glass of wine or your favorite brew. The place is very modern and exudes an ambiance that is quintessentially chill and classic at the same time. The music is not blaring and no, it is definitely not the place which can be a scene for the young and the restless - if I may :) Went there for a tasting of the portion of the recently changed menu (pics attached). Some of the dishes really stood out. My favorites were the following: - from the oysters 2 ways; the Rockefeller: If you want to try something outside the norm, go for these. A perfect combination of the ingredients, the bacon bits stole the show (in a very good way). Try them with a crisp fizzy light drink (a cold Chardonnay or pinot grigio maybe) and you may want to keep having them for the rest of the night. - The wharf veggie slider: OK. Not too many places can boast of a great veggie burger. I had a bit of the burger minus the bun and it was delicious. And the rest of the burger was gone in seconds. Again, a great combination of cauliflower (my favorite vegetable) and other accompaniments made for a near perfect pattie. Really enjoyed this one! - Salmon en croute: It had to be the chutney glaze without the overpowering dominance of miso (again, a tough feat to accomplish given - miso!) and the freshly cut piece of salmon wrapped in crispy pastry wrap. What a way to device a dish like that with salmon. Kudos to the chef. - Bistro Tenderloin: It was all about the Garbanzo mash! For someone who loves chick peas, this was the numero uno dish for me although the piece of tenderloin was juicy and very flavorful too. The mash was something I loved beyond words can describe. All in all, a very well thought through addition to the menu. In summary, this place has that fine ambiance which is right for a casual night out where you need your space without too many distractions and yet, at the same time, have a real good time. It is a combination of things - the beautiful decor which is quite different in each of the many sections of the property, brilliant lighting which is dim enough when the sun goes down and is complimented with the right music - not your top 40s for sure! There are TV screens strategically placed that may or may not allow you to get hooked on to the live game being played at the moment - depending on where you choose to sit. So, there are options galore. If you are in the financial district looking to entertain clients or with your significant other on a trip to Boston, this very chic spot is a must try.

$1 oysters Sunday through Thursday. 3pm-7pm

Clean bar near the aquarium. Good selection of draft beers. They also have cider. $1 oysters 3pm -7pm Sunday through Thursday. The oysters were actually a pretty good size. They have TV screens for you to watch sports. I'll be back for the oysters.

Wings to die for

Central Wharf Co is another great addition to the recent revamping of Financial District restaurants and bars. I think Central Wharf delivers a 5 star lunch in the area. This place actually used to be Jose Mac's and they did a great job revamping the place. Good for a causal lunch, not overly noisy, and plenty of TV's. They also have what looks like some event space in the back for a medium sized group. Moscow Mule - No copper glass but it was on point. It is a simple and tasty combination of vodka, ginger beer, and lemon juice Mojo Wings - They are messy but are some of the best wings I've had in recent memory. The sauce is something between Caribbean and BBQ. I would return just for these. Seared Tuna Sandwich - The presentation was different than what I would think. It was on sandwich bread which tasted great but I would have preferred to have had it on a potato roll

Small but nice bar.... Great flatbread pizza!!!! Bartender was pleasant and made very nice drinks. I'd go back.

I got a cup of chowder and the lobster roll (hot with butter). I got both my chowder and lobster roll in under 10 mins of ordering. Well oiled machine. The chowder was hot and salty and creamy. The perfect combo with the rainy weather. The lobster roll was good but I wish it would have been hot. It was closer to room temp than hot. The lobster roll was marked market price and was 40$. The cup of chowder was 10$. Overall good spot when you have the time to wait but not worth the 40$ price for the lobster roll.

The cocktail shrimp was decent - it was a good size, juicy, and delicious. The razor clams were a miss. Rubbery and too many other things in the dish overshadowing the clams. I had eaten at The Daily Catch's Brookline location years ago (it no longer exists), and I always…read moreremember it as a great meal. So when I was visiting Boston with my husband two weeks ago, I thought this Waterfront location would be a great spot for dinner on our first night in Boston. The family behind The Daily Catch opened their first business in Boston (in the North End) in 1973 - a small storefront selling calamari. Since then, it's become a bit of an institution in Boston, with several locations and now a full-service, large-menued Sicilian-style seafood and pasta restaurant. I waited an hour outside their Brookline location when I ate there years ago, and the wait was worth it. People who have eaten at their North End location may remember waiting for a bit, too. But this Waterfront location? THEY TAKE RESERVATIONS. Hallelujah. We had a reservation for around 8pm on Friday night and were seated at our table right away upon arriving. The restaurant is beautiful but understated - not flashy or too modern - with indoor and outdoor patio seating. The service was top notch. Our server was PJ, and he was incredible - helpful, friendly, always checking in with us. But even other people stopped by to make sure we didn't need anything. The menu is pretty large, and I wanted A LOT OF IT. Unfortunately, we were only two people and had to order responsibly. We shared the stuffed calamari (calamari stuffed with herbed bread crumbs, pine nuts, and raisins, and served in their red sauce); a Caesar salad (classic, and we added anchovies on top); their black pasta aglio olio (ground calamari, extra virgin olive oil, garlic, romano cheese, and parsley); and their monkfish marsala (pan-seared monkfish medallions with mushrooms in a marsala wine butter sauce). What I loved? That stuffed calamari. I had it almost ten years ago when I ate at their Brookline location. I remembered it, and we had it again. It's an incredible dish. There's a reason their black pasta aglio olio is so popular. It's a classic and very delicious. The ground calamari is such a nice touch, and the dish is fresh and super garlicky and delicious. (They serve their pastas in the pan - it's something they are known for - a charming touch!) I also think their drink menu is great. I had a great glass (or two?) of wine white from Sicily (Pietradolce Etna Bianco - a 100% Carricante grape wine from the Northern slopes of Mount Etna), while my husband had a cocktail (or two?). The only thing that kept this from being an absolutely perfect dinner was the monkfish marsala. The monkfish was cooked beautifully cooked, but I found the sauce very off. It was bizarre - it tasted like maple syrup to me. I think the marsala was too sweet or not cooked out enough or - is it possible?! - something was added for additional sweetness and the balance was off. Way too sweet for me with the fish. We ate the fish but tried to get as much off the sauce off as possible. The only miss in a meal that was otherwise wonderful in service, ambiance, food, and drink! The Daily Catch is a classic for a reason. If you've always wanted to try it, this Waterfront location is great - since they do take reservations here! Great Sicilian food in the heart of Boston.

The antipasto dish arrived very quickly and was a beautiful layout. Of course I desired to save some room for the entree but ended up eating about 3/4 of the appetiser before it arrived. Grilled Octopus over mixed greens with Cherry Peppers and a balsamic glaze: A delightful surprise! The octopus was incredibly fresh, tender, and succulent, bursting with umami and a smoky aroma. The sweet and sour balsamic vinegar followed subtly, lively yet deeply penetrating the texture; the lemon juice added a refreshing and layered flavor. The sauce was also delicious with the greens. Shrimp and Scallops Fettuccini with Giacomo: The standard menu order is linguine, but we could ask the server to substitute other pasta, which was a thoughtful touch. The fettuccini is wider, with a better texture and more grain fragrance, although I felt it was cooked a bit too soft, softer than al dente. The shrimp and scallops were large and fresh, making for a very satisfying meal. Giacomo sauce is supposedly a lobster-based marinara sauce with a touch of béchamel sauce. The lobster flavor is actually quite subtle, but the combination of the two sauces avoids being overly sour or greasy. Plus, there's a generous amount of sauce, making it easy to mix. Overall, it's quite good. The restaurant is rather cramped, and the seating isn't very comfortable. A 20% tuition fee is automatically applied for groups of 5 or more. However, a waitress accidentally spilled water on my sleeve and didn't apologize immediately; she only brought me tissues after I asked. Thankfully, it wasn't hot water...
