Very friendly place just around the corner from the Granery Tavern. They have the same excellent beers on tap as their sister company (same owners?) including my favorite IPA, Fiddlehead. Good crowd of Irish servers from Galway taking care of us. Beth (Elizabeth) was awesome. The menus leans Mexican, and I have to say, I liked the nachos. The worst nacho establishments produce a pile of chips with stuff only on top. The best places layer cheese or stuff in the foundational layers and add more to the top. Two short blocks from the touristy areas of Faneuil Hall, Central Wharf is a nice sit-down restaurant with a lot of charm. Clearly aiming for a waterside theme, the restaurant is decorated with portholes and aged wood. I'm not sure the point of the three-foot-tall "SALTY" in the dining room but it's okay. We got the pretzel and a shrimp pizza to start. The pretzel was nice, served with a small pot of a beer cheese sauce for dipping. The shrimp pizza ended up being the short rib pizza and when we mentioned it, the waitress took both off our check with no problem. The short rib was good but light on meat and heavy on onions. I wouldn't recommend it. The shrimp pizza, when it arrived, was excellent. A white sauce with a good amount of seafood and halved cherry tomatoes. We enjoyed it. For main course, I ordered the lobster roll. A disappointment as it was nearly as much onion and celery as it was lobster meat. Too much mayo. The hand-made chips were not hot and were overly crunchy. I wouldn't have this again. Other than the wrong pizza, we did have to remind our waitress to refresh our drinks. As we were charged $2.50 each for a Coke and a soda water, more than one would be good. It's a nice restaurant in a nice part of the financial district. It's just A-OK for me. After a nice long walk on the Freedom Trail in Boston, I decided to stop off at Central Wharf Co. for a nice, quick bite to eat for lunch. I came on a Sunday afternoon and the restaurant was not packed, but they still were pretty crowded with plenty of people left after getting brunch. The brunch menu was still available once I arrived, but I decided to order from their dinner menu. The restaurant is nicely decorated with plenty of booth seating, a bar and tons of TV showing all types of sports events. I wasn't too hungry so I passed on the appetizer and I decided to just get their lobster roll because you always have to try a few while you are visiting New England. I also chose to get it warmed up with butter. The lobster roll came out very fast and it was excellent. The roll was very soft and tasty while the lobster had the perfect amount of firmness and had plenty of flavor. I also got a nice side of chips and I could definitely tell they were homemade and very tasty. Throughout my entire experience, my water was very kind, professional and courteous. Altogether, Central Wharf Co. is a very good and convenient restaurant in the heart of Boston. read more

While the food was excellent, the staff friendly, and the ambiance modern and sophisticated - there is really only one reason you should choose Central Warf for any event you might be planning, and that is the event coordinator Sevana. While we put her through hell with a million questions and what ifs, she was expertly helpful in making our day special. She took so much off our plates in terms of set up and coordination, that we really could focus on the day itself. I don't think I ever caught her without a smile on her face and she was arguably as genuinely excited for our marriage as the friends and family who were attending. If you're the manager or GM of Glynn Hospitality and are reading this note, I would encourage you to do whatever it takes to keep her around. We waited 2 hours for our food and when summoning our waitress to Heck on our food she thought we wanted the check as she had no idea we hadn't gotten our food yet Our drinks were empty and no one came to check in them. The front of the house argued with me about how long we had been there and then came up with excuses. Zero stars. As we were walking in, another person was leaving and complaining that they hadn't been waited on. We sat down and gave it 10 min and no one even acknowledged us. Another couple came in after us and had started getting service but we had nothing. Super weird set up as there were two entrances open on opposite sides of the building but no host stand - kind of like a free for all and you just stand there waiting around for someone to make eye contact. The female who sat us (pink sweater/shirt and black pants) walked by us several times and didn't acknowledge that we hadn't been seen by anyone. She did have enough time to make plans with the bar patrons for after her shift (some older gentlemen that were part of a large party in the bar area). Central Wharf is surrounded by so many bars/pubs and can be easily obscured by them. However, it has its charm and the decor has their brick 19th century industrial feel to it. Showing up here for an event, I went over to the bar to grab a drink first. The rum swizzle here was decent, as it proved to be refreshing for an oppressively hot day. The bartender was friendly and polite. The food was a mixed bag here. The cheeseburger slider was dry and barely edible. The flatbread pizzas here, however, were quite venerable. I loved the windows off the frame and open plan. The hostess was so pleasant along with our waitress. The manager or owner (not sure the title) frequently checked on us and had a great attitude. Customers around us seemed very happy. The boneless wings were great. I ordered a wharf burger that had a special sauce on it that was great. The burger was excellent. It's so easy to make a decent burger that people will enjoy but this one was not decent. It was fantastic and that is not easy to do. Central Wharf Co is a fantastic spot for anyone who wants to have a relaxing time - whether for a good meal or just to chill with a glass of wine or your favorite brew. The place is very modern and exudes an ambiance that is quintessentially chill and classic at the same time. The music is not blaring and no, it is definitely not the place which can be a scene for the young and the restless - if I may :) Went there for a tasting of the portion of the recently changed menu (pics attached). Some of the dishes really stood out. My favorites were the following: - from the oysters 2 ways; the Rockefeller: If you want to try something outside the norm, go for these. A perfect combination of the ingredients, the bacon bits stole the show (in a very good way). Try them with a crisp fizzy light drink (a cold Chardonnay or pinot grigio maybe) and you may want to keep having them for the rest of the night. - The wharf veggie slider: OK. Not too many places can boast of a great veggie burger. I had a bit of the burger minus the bun and it was delicious. And the rest of the burger was gone in seconds. Again, a great combination of cauliflower (my favorite vegetable) and other accompaniments made for a near perfect pattie. Really enjoyed this one! - Salmon en croute: It had to be the chutney glaze without the overpowering dominance of miso (again, a tough feat to accomplish given - miso!) and the freshly cut piece of salmon wrapped in crispy pastry wrap. What a way to device a dish like that with salmon. Kudos to the chef. - Bistro Tenderloin: It was all about the Garbanzo mash! For someone who loves chick peas, this was the numero uno dish for me although the piece of tenderloin was juicy and very flavorful too. The mash was something I loved beyond words can describe. All in all, a very well thought through addition to the menu. In summary, this place has that fine ambiance which is right for a casual night out where you need your space without too many distractions and yet, at the same time, have a real good time. It is a combination of things - the beautiful decor which is quite different in each of the many sections of the property, brilliant lighting which is dim enough when the sun goes down and is complimented with the right music - not your top 40s for sure! There are TV screens strategically placed that may or may not allow you to get hooked on to the live game being played at the moment - depending on where you choose to sit. So, there are options galore. If you are in the financial district looking to entertain clients or with your significant other on a trip to Boston, this very chic spot is a must try. read more

I really like Central Wharf Co. It's very dark but pretty comfortable. I've ordered the Thai Soba Noodle salad twice. It's pretty good, though I may be at my limit with it. The noodles are cold, which I imagine the salad would be incredible if it were warm. I get it with grilled shrimp on top, which is good. The fish tacos look great. Central Wharf Co is another great addition to the recent revamping of Financial District restaurants and bars. I think Central Wharf delivers a 5 star lunch in the area. This place actually used to be Jose Mac's and they did a great job revamping the place. Good for a causal lunch, not overly noisy, and plenty of TV's. They also have what looks like some event space in the back for a medium sized group. Moscow Mule - No copper glass but it was on point. It is a simple and tasty combination of vodka, ginger beer, and lemon juice Mojo Wings - They are messy but are some of the best wings I've had in recent memory. The sauce is something between Caribbean and BBQ. I would return just for these. Seared Tuna Sandwich - The presentation was different than what I would think. This was a nice spot. There was a rustic feel in the bar with the exposed beams and brick. Plenty of TVs for sports. The dining area had a few areas set up with lounge chairs and low tables right next to the windows which were open when we visited. We sat in one of these spots. The chairs were really comfortable and it was nice and sunny out. There was also a large TV in the dining which we were happy about. Our server was pleasant and prompt. Had to repeat a cocktail order for a Cosmopolitan 4 times (it wasn't a good one despite the number of times it took to order it)... We also ordered a glass of champagne, but that was delivered to another table and so it took our server 5 minutes to figure that out too... ...then our appetizers turned up at the same time as our main courses (we complained and both the person who brought the food to the table and the server just shrugged their shoulders). We complained again vociferously and the server walked away from the table. At this point we just decided to go with it as they obviously have no customer service skills whatsoever and were not able to deal with the situation. The caprese salad was half a pack of bagged salad, 4 slides of tomato and 4 thin slivers of processed rubber mozzarella cheese... the feta cheese salad was just as bad and the fish and chips was mediocre to poor at best. Overall, this was the worst dining experience we've had in a long time and we'd never recommend nor return to the Central Wharf Company! read more

I can see what some of the bad reviews might have been about but thankfully we didn't have to deal with any of it. Our server Lisa seemed inexperienced but she was very sweet. The floors were a little dirty that I saw some people complain about on yelp but it was fine around our table. We ordered the lobster roll, warm w/ butter, the fish and chips, and the calamari. Everything was very good! I think I would try my lobster roll cold next time. The potato chips it came with were different than what I was used to. I went here with my entire team for lunch after an offsite. I definitely had expected top notch service and food considering we were a corporate group and I assumed they'd want to make a good impression. I was so wrong. We had spent the morning on a scavenger hunt so we came for our noon reservations famished and dehydrated. Needless to say, we did not receive water until about 12:30pm. Our waiter (there seemed to only be one designated for a group of about 20!) kept forgetting to refill our drinks. Our orders didn't come in until past 1pm and that's just the first table. By the time everyone for their food, it was 1:30pm. The chicken that some of my co-workers ordered were not cooked (there was still blood!) and my manager got a wedged salad that was literally just a romaine lettuce cut in half, sprinkled with some seasoning and grilled chicken. Definitely won't be coming back. There are so many other nice restaurants around this area, with what I'm sure are quality service. read more

I went here with a big group for a company dinner. We started out with some delicious drinks and then moved on to appetizers. My table shared a charcuterie and cheese plate, crab cakes, and popcorn shrimp. The charcuterie plate had a nice variety, as well as some apricot chutney that I really enjoyed. The crab cakes were the hit of the table and were very well-balanced with a lot of meaty chunks. The popcorn shrimp were well-fried and tasty. I had the pasta fra diavolo, which was very filling and tasted great. The seafood was very fresh. There were big chunks of salmon and andouille sausage with a lot of calamari rings generously sprinkled throughout and a few shrimp as well. As for the others at my table, I got the feedback that the chicken and the short ribs were fairly middling and those folks wished they had gotten something else, but the people who got the salmon or the fra diavolo were very pleased with their choices. read more

This restaurant is a tourist trap located close to the aquarium, it's absolutely terrible. Do not eat here. I got stuck eating here with a group of visiting friends that wanted to go to the aquarium. Our waitress, Marmarin was short, rude, and absolutely horrible at providing service. On top of that, I saw 3 mice run through the empty dining room. Ate at this location on Tuesday, September 24th. We did come in at 8pm and the location is beautiful - the windows and doors were wide open on this beautiful fall evening. First off, the server was awful - start to finish - really poor. Second, the food was very underwhelming. Steaks were cold, pasta was bland, the $10 lobster addition for the pasta is straight out of a package. The food was just overall really poor for the area and beauty of the facility. Lastly, about those windows and doors - a mouse ran across the floor. We alerted the server who told us with the openness the come in 'all the time'. Not very refreshing. I came here on Friday night with a few friends. The bar has upscale decor but has a great deal on $2 Corona's (with lime)! They have a spacious layout, with bar seating and tables on the first floor and an additional bar upstairs. It's a great place to get a dive-bar price on a drink without feeling like you're at a dive. I haven't been here for food yet, but I'm sure I'll be back soon to try it. read more

Man, what a bummer this place was. I really hate to complain but they made some pretty sad mistakes and I want to help fix it. We got a dozen oysters, only got 11, and two of those were nearly non-existent. Like, the belly was gone and what was left was a smear of goo. That said, the oysters that were normal and actually there were some of the best I've ever had [for my palate, anyway]. Our waitress tried her best and was very sweet, but the hot water I wanted to drink was a hard request for some reason and got that at the end of the meal. Ugh, but the worst affront was the "Nashville Hot Fried Chicken". Let's look at the description. "Nashville Hot Chicken spicy southern fried chicken breast, slaw, homemade pickle, honey hot". First, the spicy fried chicken breast on it's own was just INCREDIBLY bland. No salt and certainly no spice - but fried nicely enough. The sauce dumped on it was absolutely just honey mustard goo. It had never even been in the same kitchen as anything spicy. It's never even had a spicy thought. The homemade pickles were cucumbers that had been run through vinegar, but certainly nothing in the realm of being pickled. I couldn't eat this at all, but I brought it home to the trash compactor [aka hubs] and he took a bite and was like, Flavor? Where are you? And I didn't even tell him of my complaints! He eats ANYTHING and was like what is this? Is it a prank? Nashville hot chicken means you sweat and go blind for a second while still being delicious and worth it when you wake up on the floor. Do NOT call this Nashville and i'm sure people would be less disappointed. Better yet, go get the Nashville at State Park in Kendall. Now, *that's* exactly the right balance of abject horror and tastebud paradise. Learn from them. Do it right. read more

Having been here years ago when it went by a different name, I thought I would come back and check it out and see how they changed it. Turns out, it has definitely changed.... When it we Jose Macs I loved it here! Tonight I came in and I felt like I inconvenienced the bartender by sitting at a 3/4 empty bar and asking for a bud light. She preferred checking snapchat and standing at the end of the bar. When I sat down I was not asked what I wanted, I was stared at as looked through the menu and finally I just ordered. Luckily, after some after work beers at Coogan's on a Thursday, some people were starving and, wow how convenient! Located right across the street. Apparently they're owned by the same people at Coogan's, so good job there. Just got a small app at the bar, the wonton nachos that had a balance of fresh tuna, nice crunch for the chips, and tied up well with the pineapple salsa, ponzu and slaw. Also ordered a beer I really didn't enjoy and I hate making a fuss about getting something else but the bartenders weren't annoyed at all so that was a plus! read more

Overall (3 stars): The food is not bad here but certainly nothing to write home about either. It is a little too expensive for the quality of food but the restaurant has a little more of an upscale feel to it than say Tavern in the Square. General: Seating was easy to find for Saturday at dinnertime. Our waitress was very nice and took our drink and food orders quickly. The ambiance of the restaurant is kind of like an upscale bar... but not trendy or hipster by any means. As mentioned earlier the restaurant seems like a more expensive version of Tavern in the Square. Food: I had the clam chowder appetizer to start which was pretty decent. Definitely on the salty side but there were healthy sized clams inside and had a slight seafood taste to it which I had the lobster roll which was pretty average. I'm happy that they gave me a healthy portion of lobster in the roll but it didn't taste the freshest. The roll itself was also pretty bad. The bread was extremely thick and kind of left this odd doughey taste in your mouth. I will admit that my friends who ordered the fish sandwich, wharf salad, and a pasta dish all seemed to enjoy their dishes a lot more. It was probably a mistake on my part getting a lobster roll somewhere not known for their lobster! Overall summary back up top. read more

Great chowder! Like probably the best chowder I've had in a restaurant. My wife liked her lobster roll and I had fish and chips which were good as well. We also shared a Cesar salad with fresh anchovy and i was definitely nervous about it but it was really good. Cheap beers. Slow service though but clean bathrooms. The location is close to the water and the financial district. The ambiance is hip and modern. The service is a little slow but friendly. Nice spot near the waterfront. Great place for large parties and finding a reservation for 14 of us was easy! Wide selection of drink and food. From steak, ahi tuna, salmon, lobster roll, burger, etc. Their bourbon cooler was super refreshing! I had the burger which was good and came with crispy fries. It was super salty and I was downing my water but it was pretty good still. The lobster Mac and cheese looked delicious and so did the cod fish tacos.
