Meet Terri Terry, owner of th"Cellar Door", a tapas and wine bar in down town Pleasanton, CA. We did! In fact Terry served our table. Terry previously owned the Chicago Metropolitan Grill in Pleasanton for 8 years, but she always wanted to host a wine and tapas bar. She and husband, Scott Terry can be found here nightly, engaging the guests and serving unique pairings of world-class wines with cheese plates. Sherrie ordered the flight of "three chardonnay wines": 2015 Balletto, 2014 Testarossa, and 2016 Hartford. (Russian River and Santa Lucia Highlands. I ordered the flight of "wines from Spain and Italy": 2017 Columna Albarino, 2016 Scarbolo Friulano, and 2016 Alois Pallagrello Bianco. WOW... paired this with the Charcuterie cheese plate (with 3 Italian sliced meats) ...and this wine bar experience was Over-The-Top! BTW: these folks know their wines! When they found out Sherrie has a degree in Global Wine Studies, they recommended the 2017 Skylark Alondra Chardonnay. It has the most wonderful finish, like the Charles Krug Sauternes of the '60's. Came here for Happy Hour (4-6 pm) to find that they don't have a happy hour menu. (No wonder I couldn't find it in the "Menu" photos). It's only $2 off a Sauvignon blanc and Pino ($8/each). They don't even have any food/appetizer selection for their happy hour! Ambiance: - We sat outside because it was sunny, but it eventually got really cold!! Still a cute patio to be enjoying a glass of wine. - There's string lights hung across the front patio, so I'm sure it looks gorgeous at night! (Especially great for summer) - The inside was so nice and cozy! The back also has a lounge area. I wish we sat inside instead, but I'm glad I know for next time. - Restroom was really clean and smelled good! Ordered: - Small Charcuterie & Cheese ($22) I loved the presentation and the selection was great. It was mixed with three different kinds of cheeses, three different kinds of meats, a strong mustard seed jam, and a fig jam. - Sauvignon Blanc ($8 HH) - Pino Noir ($8 HH) It was nice, fruity, and light. Service: - Servers were really nice, but I definitely felt neglected sitting outside (we were almost in front of the door). We had to wave them down a few times. I loved the location of this (almost at the intersection, and there's tons of parking). The area is definitely not too crowded. The only downer was that the happy hour menu selection was very limited - literally only two items from what we understood. Good place to check out one time, but probably won't be back. I came in with a few friends after my birthday dinner on a Thursday night, and it was one of the few places in Pleasanton that didn't feel totally dead. We ordered a mix of cocktails, wine and wine flights, and all were great and reasonably priced. The bartender came over to tell us the kitchen was closing in case we wanted food, and my friend asked if they had any desserts to celebrate my birthday. They didn't, but he mentioned that they wanted to bring back a partnership with Primrose Bakery down the street. A short while later, he came to our table with a few desserts on a plate. He had actually GONE to Primrose (a few blocks away) and bought the desserts for us, and served them on the house for my birthday! Wine flight for $18? Head to Cellar Door! I went on a Sunday evening to meet up with a friend in downtown Pleasanton. He had been here before and liked it so he convinced me to check it out. At 5:30 pm on a Sunday, there was plenty of street parking and also tables inside. Apparently on week days and Saturdays, this place fills up quickly but we were the only table for awhile though most people were sitting at the bar. I ordered the Tooth and Nail flight. Cellar Door gives a good pour and I thoroughly enjoyed my wine. They also have some small bites but we opted to pass since we had both already eaten. They now also have cocktails which my friend said was new to him. The ambiance makes this a good date or friend gathering place. The service was excellent and each person who came by to check on us made sure we were happy. I would definitely come back again if I have a wine-loving friend in town. read more

It's not too small, but quaint with a stellar ambiance- dim lighting and modern rustic decor, very charming with some sass & class. They have live music every 3rd Saturday of the month, which makes for a perfect evening to sip some vino or to a enjoy a craft cocktail or two. They have a wonderful assortment of wine & a full cocktail bar. A small bar, table seating, cozy plush chairs for 2, or larger high top tables for a group, accented with with candles, and low lighting & eclectic trendy fixtures. The owner is a great gal, just a sweetheart. She was kind enough to offer me a complementary Syrah, which was a personal fav of hers- amazing glass of wine. Last night our group was in modd for wine so we went to Cellar Door. In the past, we have had good times here with wine flights et al. Last night though the service was poor, there was a band inside so it was loud. We decided to sit outside. The wine selection has clearly deterioriated here and this should not be called a wine bar at all. Mostly the bar was bust making cocktails. We got a bottle and a cheese board. Then we decided to get some old fashioned cocktails. These were the worst old fashioned made by any bar tender in America. What a shame. I make much better old fashioned my self. On top of it, the server over charged with a charcuterie board that we never ordered and it took arguing with her to get that off teh bill. Thats poor service. He disappeared, gave the benefit of the doubt, and hung around for several more minutes. The people next to me even said, "Doesn't look busy for them not to serve you". Such a gem in Pleasanton! The atmosphere is very comfortable and classy, drinks are always good and their small bites plates are very well done. Service has always been especially exceptional and prompt. My wife and I love going there and hanging out as we almost always see someone we know from the neighborhood. During Covid they have done a very nice job to make everything safe and we highly recommend this place as it is obvious that the owner cares about her customers and staff. Came here for some drinks and late night snacks. This wine bar is a little awkwardly situated because there's not that much private seating available, they have more bar seating and communal table seating than tables. We ordered the gourmet cheese plate and 2 glasses of wine. The gourmet cheese plate came with a nice spread of cheese, a bleu , brie, and a nutty cheddar. The crispy raisin toasts were delicous with the jam and cheese. This is a great place to come for date night, or with girlfriends. Great selection of wines in cozy downtown Pleasanton. They have nice seating areas near the windows and throughout the space. It's got more of an old world vibe in terms of ambiance so don't expect a modern interior. It's quite charming and the service was attentive and friendly. What I also liked is that they have half glasses of wine with three oz pours so you can try a few kinds. Would definitely return considering this is right in our neighborhood. read more

Came here after some wine tasting in Livemo. I had heard good things so I had decent expectations. Can definitely say I was not let down. The setting is just the right mix of casual and intimate. It's dimly lit, so you can sit with your significant other and pretend you're with someone else perhaps? Or actually feel romantic with the person you're with. It's also great for groups. I especially liked the more lounge inspired section in the back with super comfortable chairs. They have a cute patio out front and as the spring comes, I will definitely come back to enjoy that. Outside seating is nice, tables by the sidewalk can get pretty loud especially when there is a line to the ice cream shop. But it's great for people watching. Great selection of wine and you can do a flight to taste different wines. I tried the cab flight and it was wonderful! We had the charcuterie with prosciutto and the chips/veggie with hummus. Both were absolutely delicious. If you like citrus lime flavor, I highly recommend the hummus. I would give the place 5 stars but they are too pricey IMO. Looked up both wines on total Wines site can buy either for $21.00 a bottle so the Daou was really over priced at $18 for the glass. We sat outside which was pleasant and when asked about the cheeses they served they were very not very knowledgeable which ones were available. And the price was a bit high for not knowing what cheeses were coming out. The flight of wine that we got was not what was on the menu. Instead , they substituted one particular one for a different one and that was the one we all were looking forward to. When asked about it, they just said they were out so they substituted it. Had we known, we would not have ordered it. It was not even close to what it should have been. At least let us know what the wines are and we can decide if we want to order the flight. The food was fine, but very small "tapas" style . I won't return just on the basis of not informing us that the menu has changed and substituting a very nice wine with one that was barely drinkable. read more
