My daughter has depended on myself and my wife to drive her to and from work which was approximately 18 minutes each way. She recently found a better paying job however it is about 30 minutes driving time each way. Approximately 6 years ago my daughter was driving with my wife as she had a learner's permit and unfortunately she was involved in a bad car accident. For the longest time after that traumatic event, she had no interest in driving. We have since relocated from New York to Chesapeake, Virginia. Well, since her new job would involve driving her 30 minutes to and from work, we decided to see if we could re-ignited that passion of driving by shopping for her first vehicle. After searching online and visiting several dealerships to find her a low mileage, dependable used car, we almost gave up. Then we stopped in at Cavalier Ford of Greenbrier. Matt , the sales representative showed us a vehicle that we saw online that seemed to good to be true. It was a beautiful 2022 Kia Forte LXS. My daughter immediately fell in love with this vehicle. I took my daughter with me as I took it on a short test drive. When we got back to the dealership, we had to leave for our next appointment at another dealership. Matt was very understanding . After see a few other vehicles, we concluded that the vehicles we had seen were at same price point but with higher mileage and had superficial damages such as scratches and chipped paint. My daughter requested to see the Kia at Cavalier Ford again and SHE wanted to take it for a test drive herself.. which surprised us both. Matt was again eager to show us the car and was so kind to my daughter especially during her test drive. He even gifted her a cleaning supply kit. Matt also introduced us to Joel , whom helped us with financing the remainding cost after making a downpayment. They had her car's tank filled, gave my daughter the key and told her that her second key will be ready after the weekend. Matt and Joel made this monumental first time purchase for my daughter a memorial one. They also gave her two years of free oil changes! I went into the dealership to see my options, after shopping there lot for a couple months haha I have to say my experience here has been so amazing. Tyler (sales manager) is the first guy, I have met that keeps his word. he's amazing and will work magic for you. Ben the sales guy, lol (that sounds funny) I had was so nice. We laughed so much it made it fun. I would highly recommend them Both. Nice thing is I get to come back here for my warranty services. I feel you can't go wrong doing business with them. AWFUL. They completely ripped me off by telling me they can program new keys. Got vehicle back, they said they couldn't. Took to a locksmith who had it done in no time. WORTHLESS. Even worse, I took my 2023 Ford Maverick in for warranty work and they did NOT put the complete engine protection cover on the bottom of the engine on. What they did had loose screws-every single one. Many were missing. I now have rust on the inside of my engine compartment due to saltwater that was sucked up into it. Over & over worst customer service. Truck purchased at Cavalier. Brought truck in for full service. Specifically asked for tire rotation because they missed it last service and service rep cut me off & said we always do it during a full service. Guess what...didn't rotate tires again. Brought truck in again for full service, oil change & inspection & asked to check on a recent recall on fuel pump. Rep called & said we're not doing recall, ford says no, come pick up truck. When I arrived rep had truck brought around and I asked rep if he did the oil change. He said no. I said well look at the service ticket I requested. He said you're right, if you wait in the wait room I'll get it in for oil change. But no inspection which is due, tire rotation or any of the other services because it's now late in the afternoon. Obviously oil change was rushed. Few days later, noticed oil leaking heavily all over driveway & everywhere i parked. Climbed under vehicle & found oil filter full of oil leaking everywhere! Filter so loose I could turn with two fingers. Extremely frustrated to go back & clean up oil spills everywhere & add oil to the engine. I took my car in to get an oil change today. I showed up before my appointment time, handed over my keys and got settled in the waiting room. I watched about 15 people come and go while I was in there and at one point, I was the only one left. Over 2 hours after I got there my car was finally done. I paid my bill, got in my car to leave and it wouldn't even start. The battery was dead. I handed over my keys again and had a seat back in the waiting room. After about 30 minutes, the service tech came back. I believe her name was Jen. She told me that my battery tested ok before my service had started and then they tested it again after it wouldn't start and it needed to be replaced. I will say she said "due to no fault of their own". I just replaced my battery about a year ago, I didn't have any issues with it before bringing it in. . I asked her, how could my battery be done if nothing was wrong with it before and she simply said "we don't know". They tried to charge me $250 for a new battery. . . I asked her if they made sure everything was connected and where it needed to be. She was very rude and seemed offended I even asked. . I ultimately just asked them to jump start my car and I would take it somewhere else to be looked at. I will never take my car here again. I did meet some very nice service techs that work there and they were great. Jen is rude, she shouldn't be working in customer service. read more

Since then, I've called weekly, only to be told the service advisor is busy and that I'd get a call back--never happens. The sales associates are always nice to talk with but the managers at Cavalier Greenbrier Ford and Chesapeake Square always low ball trade-ins. I mean by thousands some times more than 10-15 below KBB, NADA, Carvana, even their own online estimate prior to bringing the vehicle in. Today, I received an online quote for $58k from them. When I brought the truck in they only offered $43k. They said it will need new tires soon. Not 15k worth of tires. Priority offered me $53k. This is the third time I tried to trade a vehicle with them and ended up at another dealer for a better offer. I need to learn my lesson and just not deal with Cavalier. read more

My truck was having issues which led to a safety recall. My truck was automatically downshifting and rpms went to 3000 and speed dropped to 0. Since they were closest to me i tok my truck there They took care of a safety recall on my truck a couple months ago. Truck has ran fine and then last week my truck showed the same symptoms. I scheduled an appointment and a few days later they start checking my truck out. As far as I know from the phone calls that were answered, out of the well over 2 dozen times I have called, they were test driving and attempting to replicate the symptoms. Finally after day 7 of having my truck there then come to find out my transmission is bad. Then I inform them I have my warranty and transmission is covered. They start a claim for me. The warranty company tells them they will send out an inspector to verify the findings of the service department. A day later, inspector shoes up and says they need to tear down transmission to fins internal failure of transmission. They refuse. They don't want to drop the pan among other parts is what I was told. Um, don't certified mechanics work in the service dept??? Even the guy from warranty company was confused by this ​ And while I am away for work and my wife is home with my children and that truck is our only vehicle, we're left without our vehicle and will not work on my truck so I said I'll take it elsewhere. I took my truck in on the 15th of July for warranty work. I spoke with my warranty company on the 25th, they said parts were on the way. Parts got to there shop on the 5th of August. I got a phone call from Nicole on the 11th, said still waiting on parts, I went in to see Nicole on the 15th, she said still no parts, I went back on the 20th still no parts. I move back to Colorado on the 30th. They started my truck on the 22nd and found out that they ordered the wrong parts. Now going on the 28th, 2 days before moving and I still have no truck. For the six weeks my truck has been there. The parts sat for 3 of those weeks untouched. Paul the director of operations over parts and service called me. I thought everything was going to be fixed. Their salesmen are great at selling all kinds of extended service, maintenance, and protection plans, and making many promises of the great service you will get when you purchase a vehicle from them, and otherwise blowing a lot of smoke up your a**. I bought a new 2020 Explorer Platinum from them in June and bought all of the protection plans and extended warranties they offered, and since then I have had nothing but problems with the service department. I bought a new battery in October when I had my car inspected, i don't drive this car except when it's nice out so I literally drove my car back from the dealership and parked it in my garage. I tried to start my car 5 months later and it was dead. I jumped the battery and drove back to Cavalier Ford and explained the situation. They told me they didn't have anyone to check it and I would have to drop it off and they would check it tomorrow. I told them all you have to do is turn my car off and they would see it didn't start. I called the Service Manager to see what could be done, but she would not answer the ph one or call me back. Worst dealership ever. My daughter went to buy her first car. Last year she pre-ordered the maverick hybrid. The vehicle is being made right now and so she went to a bank for her loan( ford doesnt like using outside their service for this). When she went to this dealership they told her the price went up five grand just because parts are in high demand. So with her already putting money down and ordered over a year ago this dealership decides to scare first time buyers and young adults so they get their down payment back and the dealership then can list the truck even higher than what she had locked in as the price. By far a horrible dealership. You would figure after sitting on a down payment for over a year and collecting that interest they would try to accommodate in so form but no, no action was given except here is you original down payment without the interest that we earned on it and a very hard time with that. I bought my 2003 Ford Harley Davidson Anniversary Edition truck back in 2003 upon returning from my last combat deployment from Iraq, was very pleased with the service I received! I have always brought my truck back for services and/or any repairs that had to be done! I recently had my transmission replaced back in November 2020 by their service department and it wasn't cheap, over $5k I had paid for the repair. Brian Lacey was my service manager! This guy was far from professional, never gave me updates, every time I called it seemed like I was bothering him etc... Fast forwarding I get my truck back new transmission and a rebuilt drive shaft, a few month I called and complained that there was a whining noise coming from under vehicle that would come and go. You figure that after I paid $5k that they would make it a point to check things out just to make sure there wasn't a mistake made with the repair! All I got was well drop it off and we will get to it when we can. Mind you This is my only mode of transportation. moving forward the noise stopped but then it starts again and I call again and explain what is going on, Im told Brian no longer works there and Im giving another Service Manager named Nicole. Im told Sir we cannot get u in until Oct 5, and Im like that's a whole month from now, I then explained that I have been having this issue since my transmission been replaced and I am very concerned because of the whining noise its making. Im told well that's all we have.... So I guess I'm just suppose to keep driving until something major fails. My issue is that I already paid over $5k for work done and after voicing my concerns on what is going on Im told there is nothing they do right now. My experiences are usually 5 star, however this last incident wasn't that great :(. My service advisor John Stefanik always does a great job. I highly recommend. We are getting ready for a military move and our vehicle will be stored by the government. They require no active recalls prior to storage. I've been checking weekly to ensure I didn't have a recall, one popped but parts were not available and the government site said so... Until yesterday. Then I got a postcard telling me I had a recall and parts were available. We are to store our vehicle NEXT WEEK! I tried to call the sales manager but she wasn't in. Then I tried to call John but he wasn't in. I spoke to a very nice phone operator who very much sympathized, but told me nothing was available for appointment slots and there were no parts available to fix the recall. She told me someone might call me if they have time. No one did :(. Then when I asked what should I do if no one calls, she said call Monday or drive in and they'll see what they can do. Obviously my emergency shouldn't be someone else's emergency, but this legitimately wasnt my fault and I'd been tracking this recall for sometime. Here's where the 4 star comes to 5... I called their sister store, Cavalier Ford in Chesapeake Square, and not only did they have the part (ie tape! All it is is TAPE.. people can cut their hand between the driver seat and the console lol.. so Ford gives you tape) but the service guy took me that very afternoon! Maybe I'm confused on how computers work, but if you don't have parts are your store, shouldn't you be able to see if your sister store has them... ? Because if so, then the simple solution I could have been told is 'hey we don't have these parts on hand, but I see Chesapeake Square does. Maybe try giving them a jingle and see if they can get this fixed for you or on Monday come to us and we can probably work to get that part over here...' When you purchase a new car from a dealer and then service/maintain the car at that dealer for 6 years (everything from oil changes to scheduled "mileage" maintenance) when it's absolutely cheaper to go anywhere except a dealer you expect that when something actually goes wrong, and your car needs serviced you can get an appt. in less than 6 weeks. We dropped our car on a Sunday (March 25th) because the "wrench" warning (drive train issue) illuminated briefly, and the car (hybrid) is not charging completely. I received a call on Monday morning from the service department (Nicole) stating that they couldn't get to the car until the end of April. I understand we didn't have an appt. but the first available appt. is more than a month away?? I told her that was ridiculous, and we couldn't with a single car as we both work. She said they "might" be able to get to it within a couple weeks. I mention that we were in the market for a new vehicle and asked why I would buy another Ford if I can't get a appt. for service sooner than 4 -6 weeks. This is where she became RUDE. She stated that all dealerships are the backed up this long. I told her that I have a Chevy truck and when I call with an issue they get my truck in the next day. She told me that isn't true, and that when she called the GMC dealer not long ago that they were 2 weeks backed up. I told her 2 weeks is better than a month, but that Hall Chevrolet always gets my truck in with days of me calling. She said that's just not true - so now I am a liar! When I hung up the phone, I called my service advisor (Adam) at Hall Chevy (Chesapeake/western Branch), explained the situation and what was happening, he said bring it in tomorrow morning....hmmmmm. I told him I had one more call to make and I would let him know. I called Cavalier Ford in Western Branch and made an appt. for the car the next day - WAIT why didn't Nicole recommend I try them (same name different location) and why would she try to convince me that everyone is backed up over a month. I called chevy (Adam) back thanked him for his customer service and told him I was able to get in at another Ford dealer. I thought the service department was friendly, but not too helpful with extended service agreement. I asked them to an issue with my front struts on my 2015 Expedition but they said they weren't covered because they are designated as shocks and not struts but when you order them they are called struts. So why is the part called a strut, but the dealership calls them a shock? Answer: so they can get out of covering a $1200 replacement which I had to pay a mechanic to change out. read more

If you don't want to read this whole thing, going to Priority Ford in Norfolk saved me about 10k dollars on a car with more options. Purchased a truck here over a year ago and had no complaints. Went back to look at a different vehicle just recently and it was a terrible experience. Went in to talk about some options and they immediately came in with quite possibly the worst deal I have ever seen on a car. Over 8k less than the trade in value of the truck and car at Msrp. They kept my keys so I couldn't leave until they brought me another piece of paper with my truck now 5k less than trade in value and 4K off the car. Told me I didn't know how to properly look up my trades value and explained msrp to me lol. Finally ended up leaving and found myself at priority Ford in Norfolk. Told them what I was looking for and we test drove a couple of things and then ran some numbers. The same exact deal with a higher option car came back over 11k less at priority. Maybe I looked like an idiot when I walked in to cavalier that day lol. Who knows. Ended up getting a 33k dollar ranger at priority for the same price out the door as a 23k dollar escape at cavalier. Long story short. I won't be going here ever again and will send anyone who asks to priority. I know from experience they push very hard for good reviews to people they sell to, which has inflated their rating here. read more

What started out as an intermittent working audio system in my car has turned into a nightmare. Five visits later, and there is no end in sight. First visit-"there's no problem." Asked the manager to go out to my car and try it again. He called back and surprise, it didn't work. Asked me to bring it back since he didn't have time to look it. It had been there ALL day. Second visit-yup, there's a problem. Need to order parts. Third visit-part didn't work. Need another part that is back ordered with no release date. I was in an accident at this point and my car was in the shop for 54 days. The part came in, but I had no car. Was told that they would have the part when my car was done. Called and set up fourth visit after I got my car back. Called two days prior to the appointment and asked to make sure the part was there. Was reassured, yes, it is. Guess what? Nope, it wasn't. It had been sent back and had to be reordered. Was told it would the in the following week (ordered on 1/17/2020). As of today, 1/31/2020 it still isn't. Today I was told that it is not possible to track a package through UPS and they don't know where it is. I've been dealing with no radio (it's not working more so than working now, got a whole 30 seconds today). And there is no end in sight. So far, my bill is $400 plus dollars (deductible and shop costs) with only a promise of "I'll see about eating some of the cost" from the dealership. I just want my car fixed. This issue has been going on since September (my first visit) and I'm tired, and frustrated. read more

When I originally brought my vehicle here for really bad sputtering in the engine, with obvious symptoms, they charged me $120 for diagnostics. Called me the next day saying that it wasn't "throwing any codes" and that i need to "keep driving it until it gets worse". Well it got worse, and I have yet to be able to fix it. Also when I called to speak to someone about it the receptionist put me on hold immediately, and I sat on hold for 40 minutes, and no one ever came back to the phone. So I hung up and called back, and then no one even answered the phone. This dealership is unprofessional, and will not offer you any satisfaction. Terrible Service Department. I highly recommend that you stay away from them and use another dealership for your service needs. About a month and a half ago, my check engine light came on my 1998 Ford Mustang and I took it to the dealership for service. I made an appointment for early in the morning on a Friday and when I arrived for my appointment, John, my service technician was unprofessional and informed me that they would get to the car on Monday morning. The car is a limited edition model that I normally take to car shows and cruises and is not my daily driver. However, what is the point of making an appointment time if they wouldn't even look at the car for several days? I left the car and on Monday I received a call from John to inform me that they needed to drop the fuel tank to look for a short in the wiring and replace a sensor. I gave the go-ahead and I received a call the following Friday that the car was ready for pickup. I returned to the dealership and picked up the car. John told me that they had turned the check engine light off and he "hoped" that it fixed the problem because the vehicle was too old for them to figure out the problem and they didn't have the right equipment to diagnose the problem. At no previous point did he tell me the car was too old for them to work on and the dealership had no problem taking over $500 to shut the check engine light off and replace a $35 sensor. As I drove the car home the check engine light came back on and I returned to the dealership. When I informed John that the light had come back on, he said there was nothing else they could do and recommended I take the car somewhere else. I took the car home, $500 poorer and without the problem being solved. I called and emailed the Service Department Manager, Cassie, to voice my frustration with the whole process and she never returned my call or email. A few weeks later I googled the code that the OSB II diagnostic reader had revealed and there were tons of articles, videos, etc. about the problem. Apparently, the code was well known and is a chronic issue on several 1998 Mustangs as the computer was changed for that particular model year. I was able to buy the sensor I needed ($15) and an OSB II diagnostic device (several different brands available on Amazon for under $40) that I was able to download an app on my phone and fix the problem. I have driven the car on several occasions and have no problems since. I was able to correct the problem for about $50 after I had to pay Cavalier Ford over $500 to not fix anything. Even worse was their terrible customer service. From their inability to get the car into the shop in a timely manner, John's unprofessionalism, their desire not to tell me upfront that they didn't have the equipment to work on my car, to their service manager refusing to even respond to my frustrations and concerns. It was just a terrible experience overall and I would not recommend them to anyone. STAY AWAY FROM CAVALIER FORD and take your business to one of the other area Ford dealerships. read more
