the most rude employee...i had a gift card and was instructed on how to use the gift card at this location when I first got it. I came back to use it again today knowing it had 25 dollars on it. When I scanned it, the man said that I couldn't use it and that it didn't go through. However, on the app I could see the amount of money on the card go down as well as the points go up. He made me pay for it on my card after I told him I had already used the gift card he proceeded to roll his eyes at me and roll his eyes at the other people who were there. he belittled me in front of all the other customers after I asked him how to use the gift card if scanning it on the app was incorrect. Additionally, my friend had to go back into grab something, and she heard him bad mouthing us to all the other customers who just watched what happened. We happened to be down in DC on Friday night and we were feeling peckish before our movie started. In these situations I sometimes ask a friendly lookin' local "where would you eat?" The guys I asked pointed right across the street and said that they heard that Cava was really good Mediterranean style, and that it would be fast enough for us to make it to our movie. If you are in the mood for something healthy, something beyond the normal junk food crapola of pizza and burgers then this is the place for you! I will admit that I found the menu a little intimidating because it had so many choices, but we just grabbed the mini-menu and stood off to the side to formulate our game plan. It's basically one of those build your own salad places, but it was so good! Between the three of us we tried different salad bases, one of us did romaine, another spinach, and finally the super salad which was kale and some other stuff I didn't recognize the name of. You get a starch next which can be a couple of different kinds of rices, or maybe some interesting legumes. Then protein (I picked the falafel), and then dressing. As I write this it doesn't sound as amazing as I remember, but I am telling you that we really loved it. The munchkin said "I'll be sad when this is over". Funny yeah, but also true. Cava is a decent space. My standards for healthier eating may not align with yours. Cava has a decent selection of greens to choose from for a salad, and has a lentil substitution to swap for rice. On some occasion, I do find it to be somewhat generic. My preferences for creativity are more along the lines of what Shouk has to offer. There are hundreds of places to eat in DC yet, I always visit CAVA while I'm there. This was my first time at this location and I was shocked that there was no line! The place was quiet and very clean. Staff was friendly as they always are, at every location. If you haven't eaten at CAVA, it's a "Chipotle" style eatery with Mediterranean food. You can choose from a grain bowl, a salad bowl, or greens and grains (my favorite). From there, you pick a protein (braised lamb, spicy meatballs, mixed veggies, falafel) and then add toppings. CAVA sourced their ingredients locally and they rotate based on what's in season. They also have a rotating menu of housemade sodas, teas, and lemonades. Chicken, pulled beef, beef meatballs, and couple other vegetables choices. 6 dressings to choose from (reminds me of subway) a bunch of different chopped up veggies to choose and choose 3 of 6 other scoops of flavor (sides) like hummus, red pepper and eggplant spread, etc. pita bread is expensive $9 bucks for a little bag of sliced and fried pita. ...meh Two bowls with no additions rounded out at $24 bucks But the Bowls were filling and lots of flavors. read more

I've been anticipating their opening for several months now and randomly it was tonight & first class all the way. Love Cava. This location is a great addition to the neighborhood. I usually got at night and the restaurant has a steady stream of customers, but not too crowded. I love the cava brand and generally have great experiences however this time was not so. The builder of my plate seemed to have no idea what I was asking for. Simply shocked at my ability to communicate I suppose. Then they added nothing to the bowl. I had to ask repeatedly for more. It seems very odd that I should ask for them to provide a service that I am paying for. I'm not sure what the deal is but I watched as people behind me paid the same bowl price with double the amount of food? Is that normal? Seems more than bit odd to me. At the end of the day the lamb meatballs were dry and the rice hard(undercooked or old?) not sure. Good luck with the operation and I will not be coming back. read more

CAVA is a great, delicious value! The food is nearly always fresh (sometimes the falafel is soggy) and the flavors are great. The staff is always happy to accommodate any combination of things, so even the pickiest of eaters can find something. I have a local Mediterranean place I love to eat at back at home so when I stumbled upon this place I was a bit skeptical about it. So a group of us picked this place out and took the food back home to enjoy. I just kinda winged it when getting my bowl put together. I did like how they had a variety of options when it came to sauces, protein, vegetables, etc. This place is great for those who are vegan / vegetarian, caters very well to a variety of diets. I went ahead and had the chicken added to my bowl. When we got home we all grubbed down on our food. I wish I had eaten here earlier on during my trip because I would have returned again for the same thing because it was so good. You get a lot of food in a bowl at a great price! In addition, there was so much I could have saved some for breakfast in the morning or ate it as a late night snack. I wish there was something like this in my home town because I really enjoyed the meal a lot. The nice part about the actual place is it had a great atmosphere for seating. They also had the best high chairs for kids compared to any other place I saw in D.C. The high chair had wheels, so while I was ordering or my wife was, we were able to entertain our child in the high chair pushing her around. I am pretty sure that is not the OK intent of it, but you do whatever you can to entertain your kid so you can get food ordered. If I ever make it out to D.C. again I will be coming here again. read more

This CAVA location is the best ever. My boyfriend picked up an online order for me when I was sick and go to my place to find that the soup I was so eagerly awaiting was not in the bag. we called the store hoping that we could maybe get a refund and instead they had an employee bike the soup out to us. I only live five blocks away, but it was still so impressive that they would have someone bring the soup to my house to right a wrong. I really like this place - and love that the food options are so healthy and fresh. The staff are also very nice and place is squeaky clean. Coming here is the opposite of feeling guilty afterwards - you feel like you did something good for your health. The only reason i took a star off is because i am not crazy about the protein options. The falafel is soft and bit mushy, not crunchy (its not bad, just not what i am used to). The chicken usually feels overcooked and dry, vs tender/ softer. The meatballs are good, but they are only avl in lamb and beef (i.e. red meat). The shredded lamb is good, but again its red meat. I think if they had more "non red meat" protein options, whether chicken or shrimp, which was not overly dry, i would come more often. read more

They just recently opened and I walk past it every day from work. It's a great location and the service and food is really good. They also have alot of great options. The only minor complaint I have is that the portions are a little small so if I order the salad it usually doesn't fill me up (Then again, I am a big guy). If you need a little more than the average person to fill you up I would recommend getting the rice as your base since it's more filling. Other than that..great! read more

First time visiting CAVA. I got a pita with lamb and beef, spicy sauce, cucumbers, and additional vegetables. I also had a small drink. I enjoyed their drink selection of tea and carrot drinks. Overall I enjoyed the food! I would have given it 5 stars, except for the price, one Pita $17 is on the pricey side. I understand the food is good quality, but certain meat selections bump up the regular price. Overall, I would eat there again, but on a limited basis because of the price.
