I usually order my food via doordash for a law firm I am working at. The app doesn't allow you to state if you want the dressing med or lite and they provide little cups of the dressing which does the salads no justice at all, so I walk to this location to make this request in person. I had a hiccup with one worker who was very rude but now I work with Gabriel, and he is always attentive and smiling willing to help. I appreciate him recognizing me and being a team player. I decided to go to Sweetgreen for lunch today since I was in the office. I went around noon, and there was a decent line out the door, but it moved pretty fast. I ordered the buffalo chicken salad. They were out of croutons, so the gentleman preparing my bowl asked if I'd like something else instead. I chose the parmesan crisps. When I got to the register, the associate--Karina--charged me for the parm crisps. I kindly explained that the gentleman told me they were out of croutons and offered a replacement without mentioning any additional cost. Karina told me that regardless of what was said, I still had to be charged the $1.50, even though the upcharge was never disclosed. She then offered to remake the $15 salad without the crisps, since I didn't want to pay for something I was never informed about. I asked her, "So you'd rather waste a whole salad than just waive the charge?" Instead of comping the $1.50, she removed it--but then added a $0.60 charge, insisting that I still needed to be charged something. At that point, I gave the salad back because the situation didn't make sense at all. The establishment was out of product. An employee offered a substitution. Yet now I'm being charged for it and having to argue about it during my lunch break, after waiting ten minutes in line. Karina was being combative, holding up the line over a $1.50 charge. She then proceeded to make another buffalo chicken salad--which was also incorrect. So instead of taking a small loss, she wasted $30 worth of product. Honestly, it was all unnecessary nonsense. This was the worst experience I could've imagined, especially since I was really craving Sweetgreen. Carnivore visits Sweetgreen for the first time. There are 939 Sweetgreen locations in 17 states and DC. States with the most: NY 250, CA 154, MA 127. The first time I ever visited a Sweetgreen was in downtown Washington DC in April 2022. Temperatures hit 89 degrees the first days of our week stay, and this place was only a block away. First time wife and I shared a guacamole greens salad, but with balsamic vinaigrette. Dish came with sliced chicken for $11.95. Wife gave me all the red onions, while we both fought for the guacamole. Took it back to our hotel, remembering to bring plastic utensils, with salad dressing on the side in containers. Second time wife got the Chimichurri chicken dish, while I got the Harvest Bowl, which came with chicken. The chimichurri sauce was way too sweet and spicy. The Harvest Bowl raw kale didn't blend well in taste with the offered combination. Forgot to substitute mixed greens for the raw kale, and red onions for the blue cheese, and had to toss them. Build yourself salads start at $9.95. No added cost for wild rice and mixed greens. $1.50 for sliced egg, $3.25 for sliced chicken, $0.50 for tomatoes, $0.50 for sweet potatoes. I take their standard salads and substitute mixed greens or romaine for the raw arugula or raw kale, and parmesan cheese for blue cheese, or goat cheese. Limited indoor and outdoor seating, with maybe four tables, each seating two or three people. If you want a seat you may have to hope the stranger already seated is charitable enough to share a table with two old farts. Closed on weekends and after 6pm on weekdays. It's that kind of neighborhood. There are 23 Sweetgreen locations in the metropolitan area of DC in Yelp, almost as many as the 28 McDonald's locations. No overlap of customers. read more

I almost always order ahead to avoid the line. Choose from a salad or grain base, up to 10 core toppings, and then a host of a la carte selections ( each with accompanying cost). They have some fun dressings as well. Vegetarian's nirvana but plenty for the sensible carnivore as well. Maybe this is sad to say, but I LOVE Sweetgreen. I'm continually impressed with how yummy each of their salads are. And whenever I order ahead of time for pickup, it's always ready when I get there, even if I'm a few minutes early. Super convenient. And the options are pretty healthy--with detailed info about calories and nutritional content available for each thing. Vegan and gluten-free options about, and it's all really customizable so you can make pretty much any dish work for your tastes and dietary restrictions. My only two gripes are the price (although $12 is unfortunately pretty standard for lunch in DC now) and the weak rewards program ($9 for every $99 spent but your progress resets every couple months...) read more

Being from LA, i used to always see and hear about sweet green. I tried It once there, but I did it all wrong and built my own salad and It was mediocre at best. Apparently I'm not Innovative when It comes to salad creation. Buuuut people always speak so highly of this place so I decided to give It a shot when I was looking for a place to eat. I'll preface this review with this info: I am not a healthy eater. My motto is, if It ain't fried, I don't want It lol. However I do make some exceptions. Mainly the peach and burrata salad caught my eye because well, cheese. Lol I love burrata. Honestly I didn't really pay attention to the rest of the ingredients when ordering. I don't really like salad, tomatoes or fruit in my salad, but this one blew me away. I didn't even notice I was getting actual nutrients as I wolfed It down. The salad comes in at 450 calories and according to the menu has Peaches, burrata, tomatoes, red onions, basil, roasted almonds, organic mesclun, shredded kale, balsamic vinaigrette. This is possibly the most centrally located Sweetgreen in DC to be hit by lunch timers and tourists alike. The line is almost always out the door, if not around the corner. I am literally the last person to try Sweetgreen, because I had two main prejudices: The super long line. The price. The first problem can be overcome either with a mobile order or avoiding the lunch rush. The second issue is not an issue, because I didn't know how big their portions were. I ended up getting two lunches for one price. The combinations are so original that they have led to million copycat recipes that people swear by. I don't know how frequently they change their menu, but they seem to have seasonal options to look out for. First of all the service was horrible . This is on 17th st in Washington DC.They looked like they were all high . There was one young lady fixing the orders told my friend "hey you what you getting " then half of the orders were wrong . The plates looked like the food was just thrown on the plates . Mine was missing the avocado and the guy just smashed it all in my plate I was confused because in the picture there is half an avocado just on the side . And to top it all off I go to the bathroom and the "manager on duty " is banging on the door telling me to get out and off my phone calling me girl . I had multiple layers on since it's just my second visit to DC so it took me some time to get dressed. When I went to ask who the manager or supervisor was some guy said he was and then the woman that was telling me to get out of the bathroom stated she was the manager. As I proceeded to tell them what the issues were the girl that threw our food together was yelling and screaming in the food prep area talking about she don't need this job and she don't get paid enough . And so on . So they offered to give me my money back however they took my name and phone number instead which leads me to believe that neither were so called managers . The establishment was very clean and the employees were very friendly and attentive. I ordered the seasonal salad, spicy blue crab and watermelon. In sum: paltry portions of the good stuff. Just visited this location for the first time and ordered a fish taco (a bowl of arugula with fish on top) for lunch. I also asked to add extra broccoli (for extra cost). I order this dish at least once a week from other locations in the area, so I can safely say this: my order had the tiniest piece of fish that I ever got from any other Sweetgreen (roughly half the normal size). Same went for the extra broccoli. I'm not sure whether this had something to do with the fact that they were almost out of the fish at that time (the container where they keep the fish looked empty from where I was standing), but I was very disappointed. I went here after a dentists appointment next door. I've not been to a sweetgreen before and while the staff wasn't aware of this, it would have been nice to not have been rushed through the line. I had looked at the online menu while I was in line and decided to get a custom, so it took a minute. I get that it's the lunch hour and it's busy but my goodness. Also, an extra dressing is not you catching an attitude and filling up one of the already tiny containers halfway. And not for nothing, the customers were...different. Like every other assembly line concept eatery, you can either get a salad from their menu or create your own salad. You can add protein to your salad and even get a piece of bread if you want some carbs to fill you up. The line can be daunting but it does move pretty fast, even if its all the way to do the door. I'm leaving a negative review because of a few experiences lately that left me questioning whether to go back or not. In fact, it motivated me to make a Yelp account just to leave this review. Today I ordered the kale caesar for lunch per usual. It's important to note that the main draw to this salad for me is the lime squeeze -- when they're out of lime (like one day last week) I'll order a different salad because it makes that much of a difference to me. After ordering the salad I saw the workers behind the counter remove the limes to replenish because they just ran out. The woman helping me asked if I want "lemon instead". I said "no, I want lime." She said "ok they're cutting more in the back" and I assured her I'll wait. As she finishes preparing the salad (with no lime) she nervously keeps looking to the back of house for any updates --- keep in mind it's been like 30 seconds so we're not holding up the line or anything. What she does next is the driving factor that brought me here. She turns around and grabs a lemon and squeezes it into my salad and hides the lemon in the palm of her hand to throw it away. I obviously saw the whole thing and was so annoyed of her trying to be sneaky, I just paid and left. Not worth the energy to hold up the line or wait until someone can make me a new salad with the correct ingredients. I love sweet green and I've been eating it for 8 years. The ingredients are locally sourced I believe, and everything tastes fresh. The dressings in particular are unique and full of flavor. During weekday lunch hours, there's usually a line out the door, but they're very good at moving people through quickly so I'm never waiting long. There are a few tables inside, but I usually take it outside to eat or back to my office. I'm a long time fan of the guacamole greens, and I love the extra flavor the lime adds to the salad. The fresh ingredients are flavorful and the dressing brings the salad to the next level. They're usually light and packed with flavor. Unlike many other salads that taste dull and have too much dressing. I usually get the chicken for my meat, which has changed in prep over the years But still tastes okay. Some of the other salads don't appeal to me because they don't come with any meat and to add meat, it would cost extra. This place is always packed during lunch from M-F. They seriously skimp on portions so I paid a ton of money for a very small salad portion. This location is newer and is a bit concealed by construction but is absolutely beautiful inside. There is definitely a lunch rush but the staff does an awesome job of getting everyone in and out quickly while maintaining a laid back and friendly experience.
