Terrible service and an incredibly rude manager. I paid an extra fee for rush laundry service after being promised my clothes would be ready by 9:00 AM the next morning so I could make my 11:30 AM flight. When I arrived, the manager was nowhere to be found, despite knowing I had a flight to catch. The employee who helped me, a woman from Colombia, had assured me everything would be ready on time. Instead, I was left waiting with no assistance. When the manager KC finally appeared, he was dismissive, extremely rude, and even called me a liar instead of taking responsibility. He refused to acknowledge that they had failed to deliver the service I paid for. Because of their failure and complete lack of customer care, I missed my flight. Avoid this shop if you have any deadlines or expect honest customer service. They make promises they don't keep, charge extra for services they don't deliver, and treat customers with disrespect when things go wrong. read more

Do not go here. I decided to try them out since I am new to the area and needed a few pairs of jeans starched for a wedding this weekend. When I arrived there was a dog up front that was barking and growling at me the entire time I was in there. For some reason I stayed and asked for an extra heavy starch with a crease by tomorrow and they said no problem. They did get it to me the next day which is the absolute best thing I can say about them. The starch job is medium at best and they did not put a crease (a huge deal since I am in the wedding and it is western wear). When I called to inquire about how we could fix it I was told that it is all my fault because I never requested it (interesting as the person who answered the phone was not there when I dropped them off and I absolutely did.) So I am now out $30, and having to scramble to spend more money to ensure that I don't ruin my friend's wedding. But if you love being barked and growled at by dogs, not getting what you asked for, and horrible customer service then this place is for you! read more

Horrifying service at Cathy's Dry Cleaning. I am extremely disappointed with the service I received at Cathy's Dry Cleaning. A month ago, I brought in a $175 silk Theory tank top for cleaning. When I picked it up, there was visible damage on the front. The front desk staff asked me to leave the garment so they could attempt to fix it. I agreed, giving them the benefit of the doubt. When I picked up the blouse today, it was completely ruined--far worse than before (see attached photos). The business has refused to compensate me in any way for the destroyed item. To make matters worse, the owner, Tom, ignored my initial messages and was rude, dismissive, and sexist when I finally reached him. His behavior was shockingly unprofessional. They have always been able to provide next day pick up, complete the service as described and have competitive prices. A few times when I've had a very stained item, they have encouraged me to gently wash the garment at home first and then bring back if I had no luck (I'm not a fan of dry clean chemicals) and most times- I've been able to clean it myself. I called ahead for pricing from California to have a wedding dress steamed once we arrived in Austin. I was clear on dress specifics and was given a price. I even made a call to reconfirm a couple days ahead. When I went to drop the dress they wanted three times what they had quoted. I explained how I called twice and was given a quote. The store owner was called, was rude, and basically said too bad that was the new price. read more

I barely have any experience with cleaners/tailors so on a whim one day I called to see if they would be available for some alterations, specifically prom dress alterations. I just shouldn't have continued after that. Initially, the person I got on the phone made me feel stupid for even asking about alterations stating "this makes things complicated." Additionally, he continued to sigh and take multiple breaths as if I was inconveniencing him. I had barely asked one question and when I wanted to talk he would only interrupt me. I barely had any interaction and I could tell off the bat it wasn't going to be a great call so I hung up. With as many options as we have here in Austin, I do not recommend calling/using this place. They are unfriendly and will without a doubt make you feel like a burden. read more

This place is the worst. I had to bring my pants back as they took the hem up 4 inches instead of an inch. When I returned my pants they said I haven't been there before as they couldn't find my account. Hence they spelt my name wrong and contact number. When I return today to pick up my dry cleaning again the girl (not her fault) could find my clothes because the girl Sophie didn't bother correcting my account. Hence I spent almost 20mins for them to search where my pants were. The owner walked in and to be fair he could not care less for the customer or the staff in person . I dropped off a brand new pair of Lafayette 148 wool pants (with the tag still attached) to be hemmed. The result was so shockingly bad the pants are ruined. The serged edge was uneven and the "blind stitch" hem left a track of uneven stitches. I carefully removed the stitches and am left with a line of holes in the fabric. Just awful. An embarrassing example of a professional laundry service company. Lost my suit, had to remind them both on phone & in-person to continue searching for my 600 dollar suit jacket. Low & behold a week later after multiple reminders they find it. And still have the nerve to charge my wife full price for cleaning on pickup. My wife hands me the phone to resolve the matter but the attendant insists that because he was "confused" its not his fault, so he won't be offering me a discount/refund. Huh, I guess I should just say that with my disgruntled customers. Overpriced $$$$, undermanaged, and not a clue how to gain a repeat customer. Cathy, I'm afraid your headed for the toilet. If you love your clothes, I wouldn't recommend taking them here. I had saved up for months to afford this beautiful designer dress. It was my most cherished piece. Cathy's Cleaners assured me they could clean it. TWO MONTHS later, they revealed to me that the chemical they used to treat the silk yellowed the fabric so they would have to order another cleaner to correct the problem. I was understanding and continued to be patient, as the dress was very special. Then, they told me the cleaner they used to fix the top, dripped onto the bottom- damaging the dress. I told them specifically not to touch the dress and please, let me see it. When I went down there the next day, they had DECONSTRUCTED it- REMOVED THE DESIGNER LABEL AND DETACHED THE TOP FROM THE BOTTOM. When I arrived they asked me if I could remember how the dress was sewn together?!?! I was aghast and near tears. THEY COMPLETELY DESTROYED THE DRESS. Tom the GM showed no remorse but said they would take responsibility for the damage if I provided a receipt. I gave them the original receipt from 10 months prior. In the end, they went back on their word and didn't offer any fair solution. They came up with all sorts of new policies that they made up for their own financial benefit. I was reimbursed only 19% OF WHAT I PAID FOR THE DRESS and they refused to give me the pieces of my dress back. Cathy personally told me she didn't want my business. Based on my experience, I would advise against supporting Cathy's Cleaners. They don't care about cleaning clothing or their customers. read more

I should have paid attention to the reviews. I was in town on business and needed a pair of pants and some shorts cleaned. I was asked specifically if I wanted a crease and said no. I took the clothes back to the hotel and didn't really think about it until the next morning when I went to wear the pants. They had a crease you could slice a porterhouse with and not only that, they looked like they had been worn for 10 years straight while falling down a mountainside. They were weathered and are virtually destroyed. I didn't notice the shorts until the day after that. Giant crease (yes, in shorts) and weathered to the point they are now ruined. $8.25 to dry clean a sweater??? I'll pass. I took my sweater in for dry cleaning after seeing online that it would be about $5. Still a little high, but the downtown location was convenient. When I got in, they tried to tell me that it was a dress. I'd never wear this sweater without pants under it, so am pretty sure that makes it a sweater. Anyhow, then they tell me it's going to be $8.25 since it has pockets. Really? Not even a customer yet and already being haggled...no thanks and never again. read more

Not only did they NOT get the coffee out of my cashmere robe, they SHRUNK it. I thought I might be stuck with a stained robe. Instead, I was stuck with a robe that was shrunk so much that I can't even wear it. NEVER GOING BACK TO CATHY's CLEANERS. read more

In Austin from out of town and needed a quick turnaround on a sport coat repair. Everyone was friendly and accommodating, I received my repaired coat back in a couple of hours, the jacket looked great when I got it back, and it cost me a small percentage of what I expected. I went to Cathy's cleaners a few weeks ago and decided to check out their Yelp page today after recommending them to a friend. I am very surprised by the negative reviews because my experience was great! The people were very nice, my clothes came back clean, and everything was ready on time. The service was great and efficient (I was in and out of the store in 5 minutes both for pick up and drop off). Also, some of the clothes that I dropped off had been dirty for months- I was just lazy about taking them to a cleaners- and I really didn't think the stains would come out, but they all did!! I have been using Cathy's cleaners as my principal dry cleaner and go-to tailor since 2008. As cleaners they are excellent--timely, reliable and friendly, and, while the dry cleaning is not "green", it is clean and the clothes always look and smell great. As a tailor, Cathy is really unbelievable--incredibly resourceful and producing really high quality alterations and repairs. I recently took in a very nice suit that had worn through at one of the elbows, an apparently un-repairable hole in a very thin weave tropical wool gray flannel. Cathy somehow managed to reweave the whole thing, undertaking far more labor than was bargained for, and returning it to me as good as new. Really exceptional. read more

Do not go here unless you want your clothes damaged. I brought an expensive cream colored blouse (my favorite!) for a dry cleaning it and they washed it instead. This resulted in the cream looking blue. When they promised to fix it, the result was even worse! It took months for them to reimburse me for my blouse and they asked for a receipt from 3 years ago so they could pay me the amount I purchased it for, minus the "wear and tear" from the past three years--what?!? In the end we finally ended up resolving it by them paying me the price it originally cost, but wouldn't give me my shirt back. FAIL. read more

Extremely overpriced!! Make sure you review the ticket before walking out. I made the mistake of not revising the ticket and found they marked some items as "fancy" and upcharged me from what I was quoted. I also did not appreciate them marking four separate pieces as "stained" on the receipt when they didn't even have any markings/stains to begin with. Very unethical. This place is horrible. Clothes felt way more worn after the Drycleaning than before. Also, why do they staple ticket numbers to clothing tags? Totally ripped up my clothing tags when I removed. The quality of the work is fine. The prices are through the roof. This location is very dependent on downtown residents. It really seems like it would make sense to offer some kind of special pricing to the people that live in the residential buildings downtown. When I suggested this to Cathy, it went nowhere. I will probably find a cleaners that is more responsive to it's customers. I cannot with good conscience recommend this cleaners to my fellow downtown dwellers. read more

This is the worst dry cleaning experience I've ever had. They washed and dried my expensive rug. It smells like laundry detergent and is now completely ruined. It's been shrunken and has pulls everywhere. It was not cleaned the way it was supposed to be. When we brought it back the guy working who wrote our original ticket apologized and said he told them to dry clean it. He wasn't sure what went wrong and would have his manager call. We never received a call and went back 2 days later to discuss. They were beyond rude and told us it was our fault the rug shrank?!?! The absolute worst cleaners and customer service!!! My boyfriend picked this cleaner because of location convenience and I regret deeply not reading the reviews before using them. Please save yourself and use a different cleaners. Our rug was brand new, we just spilt something on the top right corner. It now looks like a worn out 5 year old rug that needs replaced. Cathy's Cleaners is the worst!!! read more

I have been coming here for a year or so but the new gal thinks it's cute to charge full dry cleaning prices for laundered shirts. DO NOT DROP OFF ANYTHING HERE THAT YOU CARE ABOUT! I have never used Yelp before but this experience inspired me to start. I wish I would have seen all the horrible reviews below before I used Cathy's. I brought in my absolutely favorite spring coat. They shrunk it to half the size. They refused to acknowledge they did anything to it. I had to go to them, try it on, and show them a photo of how it fit before. They managed to relax the coat so it is wearable, but it definitely does not fit the same as the original coat and is still missing the silk lining that they ripped out. The second piece I dropped off was a blazer with ruched sleeves - which they destroyed. They claimed that the fabric causes the sleeves to collapse when you dry clean it. It's been dry cleaned about 15 times before - and that never happened. They offered to fix it. I was more than understanding. Three weeks later, I called to see where my blazer was and they told me that I was at the bottom of their list because they were busy with other things that were more important. The worst part is that they refused to admit their mistakes. Mistakes happen (although they shouldn't if you are a good dry cleaners), but it is how you handle that mistakes that determines what kind of business you are. The woman at the front blamed me and the clothing companies. According to them, Max Mara and Zara clothing isn't meant to be dry cleaned despite the "dry clean only" labels. They still charged me for the items and refused to refund me for the items they destroyed - even though I explained that I now need to pay to have the items fixed elsewhere. And like others below, I was told they didn't want my business anymore. (For the record, I NEVER would have gone back, but it was an unnecessary insult on top of everything else.) Bottom line. Drop at your own risk. You may or may not get your clothes back in acceptable condition. If you don't, then don't expect an apology, a refund, or any sort of customer service. read more

Way overpriced...$15 for a shirt and skirt? I feel like I've been robbed.

I initially thought Cathy's was the solution to my austin cleaning woes. I realized quickly that they cannot be trusted. First, they lose my pants. Rather than tell me they can't find my pants, they tell me to come back the next day bc they aren't ready yet. I come back the next day and to my surprise, they still aren't there. I am told this time that they must have been taken to the other store for cleaning. Yeah, that makes sense. Finally I'm called later that day saying they are finished. Not only is the original stain not out, but I have no idea what actually happened to my pants. So I give them a second chance. Two times later, I received a call shortly after I drop off my shirts. Apparently there is a hole in one of my shirts that he would like to repair for me for an extra fee. I had JUST bought this shirt so I found it odd and told him id rather he not so I could return it. It was strange to me that he then tried to convince me to let him repair it. I told him no. Would you believe that after I picked up the shirt there was no hole to be found? This means either they repaired the hole against my instructions without charging me (doubtful) or there was no hole to begin with (likely). I will never go back here. read more

since moving to austin 3 years ago, i've tried several dry cleaners/alteration specialists in austin and hands-down cathy's is the best. she's highly professional, can remove any stain and her alterations are the highest quality. no job is too big or too small for cathy. (one local 'custom' tailor which repeatedly and unbelievably gets high reviews, told me during several different visits that they couldn't even work on a few items - deeming the pieces 'unfixable' - just shaking their heads and delivering this message with very poor customer service. needless to say, i never returned to them.) 'unfixable' isn't even in cathy's vocabulary. i brought the same items to cathy, she nodded her head and the job was done in a day or 2. she will help you find a way to clean or alter anything you bring in - even if it's just a recommendation that you clean it by hand at home. she's also open to recreating your favorite dress, shirt or suit in a different fabric. she's bright, talented, passionate, friendly, honest, design-savvy and professional - with a strong work ethic. i can't imagine going anywhere else! read more
