Came back here to eat the other day after a little while of not coming by. Still the same nice people working here but the fish has changed from catfish to probably swai. Thin, small pieces. The red beans and rice were still on point, but the cheap tasteless fish just didn't cut it. Prices have increased about 46% from 2 years ago. It's a shame but totally reflective of today's economy. The food was really good but I was disappointed that they forgot part of my order I placed through Uber. I really wanted those tea cakes and my Mississippi coleslaw. I called them and they were very accommodating offering for me to pick it up when ingot off work but I didn't go as Uber refunded me those two items. I just wish that restaurant would be very mindful of delivery request because people can't always go and pick up missed items; case in point I was at work and not getting off until 6, my food arrived at 2pm. After leaving my dental appointment, was famished...... didn't wanna eat before I went , sooo afterward was trying to find something"Hot & filling" to eat. Drove passed the first restaurant ( Catfish Station) and decided to stop in-it's been a while since I've been here. It's hard to decide when you're hungry and can't decide what you want .... looking at the menu board , I could've eaten everything on the menu. I decided on fish and grits ..... I told Joseph ( the guy behind the counter ) I was soo hungry and to put a lil extra on my plate, he say "will do" needless to say my plate was full of hot creamy seasoned cheesy grits and catfish surrounding the inside of the plate. Doesn't even smell like fish is being fried and if so, the oil was old, dirty rice was so old, the meat in the rice looked burnt and the rice was HARD. I exchanged the dirty rice for green beans, but that too was disgusting. The green beans tasted as if they poured them straight out of the can. The seasoning was floating on top of the beans. First time coming here, staff was super friendly and helpful in going over the menu. A bit overwhelming at first, as there are so many different options. Shrimp, catfish, crawfish, and all kinds of sides. Fried were good. Red beans and rice was great. It's hard finding good catfish these days. I remember back when I was a kid there were several "Catfish" type places all over southeast Texas. Sadly, most have disappeared. Maybe it has something to do with the "let's cut back on fried foods" advice or maybe it's because the quality was lacking. Either way, I sure am glad I found Catfish Station! To start with, if you don't like cornmeal battered catfish, stay away! If you are going to complain because some of the filets are thin, and some are thick causing cooking differences, lighten up a bit! I'm sure they don't inspect every filet with a ruler and toss out the thin ones. As a matter of fact, I like it when I have a crunchy thin one every now and then. This place has good food. So far, everything I've tired tastes great. I especially like the cheese grits and hushpuppy's. The fried shrimp is pretty good too. But the catfish takes home the blue ribbon. My soul food cooking mom would be impressed. It's pretty funny...when my family moved here from North Carolina, we kept hearing the term "soul food" thrown around a lot. When I finally went to my first "soul food" restaurant I remember thinking to myself; "This is soul food? Back home in North Carolina, we just call this FOOD!" Give Catfish Station a try. The young lady opens my box and touches my shrimp stating that she'd just put fresh gloves on. I didn't see her put gloves on and I don't know what she touched before touching my food. I live about 5 miles away and the kroger I normally shop at Krogers on Cypresswood and Champion Forrest but it has been closed due to hurricane harvey am. Trying a different Krogers allowed me to check out the eateries] in the area which is how I found catfish station. I ordered fried catfish and shrimp fried with French fries and it was fabulous. I thoroughly Enjoyed it and so did my husband. I could not finish it all so her I am several hours last enjoying what I left over.. They have a spicy tartar sauce which is delicious. the shrimp were cooked to perfection with a light batter. Everything was so good. I think I will become a regular. Seriously! This place should have 5 stars. The food is delicious. However, the service and ambiance drops it to three stars. Every time we go, we wait unreasonable times for fried food. They seem understaffed with only two people working the floor each time. I'm assuming the same staffing is an issue in the kitchen seeing as the wait times are long. Tonight, we changed our in-house order to to-go because it was so miserably hot in the restaurant. I'm guessing because the windows have the sun beating in, but it would be beneficial for their restaurant to invest in shades. We waited around 40 minutes for our order to be competed, again highly undesirable for anyone wanting an easy Sunday dinner option. Price/Value 10 out of 10 I got a family box (2lbs of catfish) for $27 online and it came with 4 different sauces, red beans that were amazing and French fries that were good. If you like catfish and at a reasonable price then you will like Catfish Station. I love the French fries, they have a crisp coating and still soft in the middle. I don't normally eat hush puppies but I have to admit theirs are very good, they have a nice sweet corn flavor. The catfish is always good, I usually get the snack basket with 3 pieces (good sized) fries and sauce of my choice. The remoulade sauce is my favorite. I am not a fan of fried food, but even I enjoy dining here. My spouse positively loves the catfish platter. My toddler enjoys the chicken platter. I usually get the shrimp & grits. The paper towels at each table is particularly useful. My spouse can be a messy eater... my toddler, too. The ketchup bottle is left at the table. If it is empty, it can readily be swapped by asking the staff or switching with a nearby empty table, completely depending on your Good Samaritan mood. I also like that tartar and cocktail sauce are kept in a fridge near the drinks, utensils, and straws in pre-packaged, lidded containers. This makes building our towers and their consequent deconstruction for use a much simpler task. The cups are not lidded (though you can ask for some), thwarting those of us bereft to make multiple trips by stacking everything on top of the drinks with our chins holding it all in place as we hug it to our chests. The food itself... I will suffice it to say that I still eat it and my family enjoys it. I am heavily biased as prefaced above. The place is kept very clean, fairly spacious, with modest decor. The bathrooms are also clean. I do warn you to open doors slowly. Ventilation can only do so much and also you probably don't want to hit anybody (I suppose this is also dependent on your Good Samaritan mood). When my Wife returned from the store, we headed out for Lunch at the Catfish Station (Kuykendahl). We have not been here before but I have read reviews on this Foodie Club, and we wanted to give them a try ... especially since they are fairly close to us. W'e arrived around noon and there are a few people here, but no waiting for the line to order. We like the decor inside, done up pretty simple, but nice. We looked over the Menu Board and placed our order with Lafayette Smith, the cashier / place your order guy. We both are having the 'Catfish Snack'; 3 Hand Battered Fried Catfish pieces, served over a bed of French Fries & 1 Hush Puppy. My Wife is substituting the French Fries for a Salad with Ranch. We chose two types of Tartar Sauce, the Spicy and Remoulade Sauce. I'm having a Moonshine Peach Sweet Tea for my drink. After we ordered, we picked up our utensils and other stuff and located a table. In a couple of minutes, Lafayette brought over our food, along with a bowl of Lemon slices. Their description says 'pieces', but they are not 'pieces', these are really Big Filets of Catfish ... Golden Brown Big Filets of Catfish ... and they look Delicious. My Wife's Salad is also a good size and looks Beautiful. They call this the 'Catfish Snack', but is a pretty good size meal. Squeezed a little lemon on one Catfish, dipped it in the Spicy Tartar Sauce and took a bite. This is some goooooood stuff. Served very Hottt, is Flaky, Fresh, Tasty and loving that Batter ... Very, Very Tastylicious, with a Kick from the Spicy Sauce. All the Catfish were the same ... Delicious ... I ate all three of mine plus one of my Wife's, because she was full from eating two of them, and her Salad. Their French Fries reminded us of the French Fries on South Padre Island. SPI has the Best French Fries in Texas. These are very close to those. Each Fry is coated with Crunchliciousness. I'm not a Hush Puppy guy, but these were very tasty, moist and just enough sweetness ... and I ate'em both. My Wife said her Salad was Fresh and Very Tasty. The Moonshine Peach Sweet Tea was also very Flavorful and Tasty ... and non-alcoholic, by the way. Catfish Station is also B.Y.O.B., just so you know. My Wife and I were both very pleased with the food, service, atmosphere, etc. This is one really good place to eat. They have lots to choose from on their Menu. You will be glad you went... They have a Tip Jar on the counter, and yes, there is a Dollar Bow Tie award in there, along with a Tip. The place inside is very clean, neat, and all the Staff here is Very Good. Here is my story, I sent this to the corporate office this morning. To Whom It May Concern: On yesterday March 1, 2016, at approximately 7:05 pm I called in an order to the Catfish Station on Kuykhedahl and a shift manager named "Chris" answered, put me on hold and a young lady came on the line. She first came on the line with a tone in her voice as if she were a bit irritated (not by me) but may be by someone in that area at the time. She was cold and I felt rushed. I ordered two Caesar Salads with chicken. This was our fourth time visiting this location and every time we place an order this is the salad we get besides other things. I asked for the dressing to be placed on the side, she responded OK. I then asked that the second salad be with the dressing mixed into the salad, she proceeded to argue with me about the dressing being placed on the side at all times. I explained to her that every time we order from this location they always mixed the dressing in. Again, I was feeling rushed. She made me feel as if I were bothering her and it was a total inconvenience. She gave me my total and hung up. I call back about a minute later to let them know how she treated me and that i would like to cancel my order. Chris the shift manager answered and I felt as though I were being a laughing stock. Chris did not bother to do a THING but cancel my order, which leads me to believe that with this kind of management there is no way an establishment can last long. My husband wanted CG so bad he went up to the store and placed the order and brought it home. The salad had NO Croutons, No Hush puppies, and the chicken was cold cold and hard as a rock. Now that is when I felt that these people were intentionally try to hurt me and I will make sure Better Business Bureau hears about this act. Before my experience, I was hollering all around town how great this place is and after last night, I must say things have shifted. There was NO proper customer service given to me last night. Catfish Station has easily become my go to seafood place. I always got with the Catfish and Shrimp snack basket for $6.99 and a side of cheese grits. The catfish is always nice and hot with a great crisp to it, and the shrimp is just as delicious. The assortment of tartar, cocktail, and remoulade sauce always make it a match made in heaven. As for the cheese grits, they are on a whole other level of deliciousness. I have friends who get this and they don't even particularly enjoy grits. But these cheese grits change everything. They make their cheese grits in a creole way with seasoning and some chunks of sausage. Then when the cheese melts into it and the thing practically changes. All this talk about their great food made me forget that the entire staff that works there. They are some of the friendliest people that you will meet at any establishment.
