I've come to dine here a few times, and the food is good! But the mimosas are what keep me coming back.

We were driving through Bozeman on our way to Seattle, and this place had a great breakfast! The food was yummy, the portion/quality/price ratio was perfect, and our waitress was a peach. What more could you ask for? My oatmeal was loaded with sliced bananas and brown sugar, and my friend's pile o' frijoles and potatoes and cheese and salsa was delicious. read more

Thank goodness for Yelp. It was our first visit to Montana, arrived at Bozeman airport and were ready for a good breakfast to get our vacation to a start. Yelp suggested the Cateye Cafe and did not disappoint. I had the Banana Bread French Toast (every bit as delicious as it sounds) and the hubs had some sort of scramble which he loved. We also had a side of biscuits and gravy (it was vacation, why not). YUM! There was no wait (although it was mid morning on a Monday) and the service was great. The atmosphere is really cute and reminded me of a grandmothers house. Couldn't have asked for a better first meal in Montana. read more

My wife and I stopped in right before closing and we both had a wonderful lunch. She had the grilled cheese with bacon (wonderful, thick cut bacon) and I had the turkey shephard's pie. The sides were excellent, too. Mine came with a biscuit, hers had potatoes. Both our dishes were well prepared, and the price was right. Our waitress was very nice. I had the banana bread french toast and it was absolutely wonderful. However, I gave three stars because this place is incredibly pompous. There is literally a list of rules you are expected to follow when you are there. For example, this is not the place to go to relax and let loose with your friends. If you finish eating and don't leave your table immediately, you're breaking "the rules." Come on cateye, live a little. read more

I've eaten here twice and both times the food was really good, but the wait staff borders on rude. The first time, the waitress gave us another table's food that was really similar to ours and she got mad when she came back ten minutes later when she realized her mistake and saw that we'd eaten some of the food put in front of us. She then very loudly explained to me that she hadn't charged me EXTRA for the food we'd be given since it apparently was more expensive than what we'd ordered. I waited a year to go back and we had a different waitress this time, and she was somewhat nicer but their "rules" make it really hard to be comfortable there. I like the food, but I probably won't be back for breakfast since there are other places with good breakfasts in Bozeman with friendly waitstaff. read more

After reading the majority of great reviews we decided to give it a try. Huge mistake! We waited for at least 30 minutes before every even being seated. People that came in after us continued to be seated until we finally asked the obnoxious hostess if we had been forgotten. From that point it went from bad to worse. The waitress that was to take or order "forgot" the table was hers. After foolishly waiting for our food for an additional 45 minutes it really became a joke watching the rude waitresses interact with each other and other guests. We all had the banana bread French toast which was ok, certainly not worth the wait nor the awful environment. Needless to say none of us from our group of 5 will ever return. It was a gorgeous morning when we were lucky enough to grab a table outside and bring our little puppy with us; the irony of the cat sign "no dogs allowed" was not lost. Staff was really friendly, and little touches like the plastic animals on the food, the cat drawing on our check, and a pretty good brunch as well! read more

Hot damn - as a connoisseuse of biscuits and gravy, this place has it down pat. The eggs that came with my dish were ordered over medium, and those were perfect as well. I could've done without the potatoes, which were pretty blah. Service was fine. I liked that I could order breakfast through the lunch hours. The theme/decor's pretty cute. The outside patio is a nice spot for breakfast on a summer morning. I had eggs, bacon and potatoes. My scrambled eggs were perfectly cooked (not wet but not tough), it was nice thick cut bacon, and the potatoes (home fries style with onion) were well flavored. My first cup of coffee was good but the refill was watery. read more

Loved the cozy atmosphere. Our server, Sugar, was fabulous and didn't stop moving and grooving the entire time we were there. I got the biswitch-- scrambled eggs and cheese with bacon over a biscuit and tater tots (which are yummy, yummy home fries). We managed to squeeze a small group into a table (and somehow avoid waiting); our waitress was attentive, friendly, and conversational. Delicious biscuits with a light crispy layer of toasty perfection on all exposed surfaces are the perfect substrate for rich peppery gravy full of sausage chunks. Also lovely with butter and honey, or tangy cherry jam, or whatever you can put on them. I accidentally doused a piece with hot sauce which in my over-enthusiasm I mistook for honey, but then I put honey on it too, and it was STILL amazing. Yes! read more

This is a great little cozy place for the absolute best pancakes in town!! We also enjoy the Alley Cat breakfast sandwich that is filled with brie and other great flavors! My mom and sister have eaten here a couple times and have loved it. We all came back right before moving my sister in to college here, so it was busy and full of college students. My parents and sister ordered specials that they enjoyed, but did not live up to previous experiences. The French toast my sister ordered looked dry, but this is coming from a girl who wants custard-y correctly made French toast, which you don't find anywhere anyways. I ordered the breakfast burrito with low expectations. I live in Southern California- the burrito capital of the nation. I NEVER order Mexican food when on vacation because the best comes from my home town. However, I was pleasantly surprised and would definitely order it again. It was very flavorful and well made! Service was also excellent- friendly and fast! If you are coming here for the first time- I would say stick to the original menu and save the specials for your second or third time. Good selection of food choices and we sampled a bunch since we had a fairly large party. The Fried chicken sandwich was okay, could have been a bit more flavorful but the chicken was juicy. The orzo pasta salad as a side with the sandwich was excellent. I could have eaten a full portion of the pasta salad! We also had an order of Mac n cheese with prosciutto which was a good choice - cheesy with Parmesan and crispy prosciutto. The banana bread French toast could have used more custard. It tasted more like banana bread with maple syrup than French toast. The smoked fish chowder was a good choice for the soup of the day. The chicken fried steak was nothing write home about especially if you have tried this on Texas in the past, but it was decent. Service was not great but we were there in the lunch rush so that may have had something to do with it. read more

Food was delicious but I'm giving a 3 star based on service. First off the servers seemed to have an attitude. I ordered a Bloody Mary and nobody explained that it was made with wine. Very surprising to take that first sip... not a good surprise. Then I ordered a mimosa and was given what tasted like squirt grapefruit juice with champagne. When I told the server that I would drink it but that I would've appreciated to have been told, she said "ok" and Walked away with an attitude. Then they charged me for both drinks and when I asked the server she said "well you ordered it and drank it" I didn't drink the first drink. They took it off after over charging us on the card and having to void it but it just made the experience unpleasant. I have been waiting to come to this place because I read good reviews.... and it just wasn't a good experience. Not one smile or a pleasant courtesy from anyone in the restaurant... if I wanted good tasting fast food and crappy service with an attitude I would not have waited 25 min to be sat. read more

After reading several reviews of this place I felt I needed to add my 2 cents as well. After living in Bozeman for 5 years I finally got over to the cafe last week after always hearing that it was so good. I wish I had when much sooner! The atmosphere is great. Very fun building, funky decorations and cool setup. The staff was super friendly and helpful. My coffee cup was never empty and the food (breakfast) was yummy. I did think the potatoes we not done, but that was the only issue. The place is small, only about 10 tables, so expect a wait if you go at high traffic times. Also they do ask that you don't 'camp' out if people are waiting, so if you are looking for a long chat with an old friend at noon on a weekday, or 10am on the weekend, go elsewhere. Cute, eclectic cafe that will knock your socks off with their homemade food. Had the corned beef hash and was full as could be but managed to sneak in a piece of bacon because everyone at my table was raving about it. Be prepared to wait a bit as the place has a steady line almost all day long! read more

This was my first visit back in over 12 years. I used to eat here all the time for breakfast when I attended MSU. I love, love, their breakfast. However, we were in town only for lunch this time. I had the Chicken Pot Pie and my husband had the Cajun Salmon San. Both were good. The cornbread that came with the pot pie was super moist and yummy. Service was excellent! Oh it was so good. SO GOOD. Had the Cowgirl which involved French toast made with banana bread. Fan-fricking-tastic. The coffee was flowing, the mimosas were cheap, the line to get in moved fast, and for bill for 3 large breakfasts came in at 30 bucks. The main reason we stopped at the cats eye was because they served all day breakfast and by calling ahead we found out they were very welcoming and accommodating to us having our dog on the patio. Not only were we served delicious food but our waitress Sugar also spoiled our chihuahua by sneaking him bacon when she would come check on us (with permission first, of course!) We loved the vibe and free spirit of all of the staff, it was like dining at a friends house, even the owner Tina joined the table next to us to recommend her favorite perfect mimosa! Being on a long road trip and stopping in the nearest town with hotels available I was not expecting this kind of awesome place in what I consider a small town. Everyone we met there was so nice and super funny! We would go back in a heart beat! Oh, they also had the best tasting bloody Mary's I've had! And that is coming from a Canadian who likes her Caesars! Check this Bozeman gem out! read more

Cateye is one of my favorite places to get breakfast! The banana french toast is a must try and they usually have awesome specials that change each day! I also recommend trying some of their mimosas, they have lots of flavors to choose from and you can choose to have just a glass or a pint for sharing with groups! The waitstaff is great and attentive even when they are slammed! Their waitlist and waiting area could use some work, when its busy you write your name and party down on a sheet hanging from the wall but this can be a challenge when there is a lot of people waiting by the door and you can't get in. This also results in sometimes having to wait out side even on rainy and snowy days. There is no where to stay dry if this happens and I have spent some mornings going back and forth from the parking garage across the street in order to stay dry from the rain. read more

We always do breakfast out on the weekends and have been going here for years. It's always the same and hasn't changed which some see as bad, but I see it as consistent. French Toast and a Huckleberry mimosa is a great hangover cure. read more

My husband and I ate here for dinner while we were on a house-hunting trip in Bozeman. We were looking for something casual but we wanted to avoid fast food and chain restaurants. Hubby happened to see a sandwich board on the corner outlining their dinner specials and we thought we'd try it out. The restaurant is cozy, but not cramped. The decor really makes the place. I had a good time browsing the titles of all the "cat" books they have lining the window sills. The woman who waited on us was friendly and helpful, although service was surprisingly slow given how few people were dining. Our dinner was okay, but nothing to write home about. I had fish, my husband had a steak. Both entrees were drenched in sauce and neither preparation was particularly outstanding. The food wasn't bad, but your average cook could have done about the same. The portions were decent; not huge, not teeny. Based on the other reviews, I would definitely try this place again for breakfast or lunch, but for dinner, I would probably recommend somewhere else. read more
