had sunday brunch here with some friends and came for awesome views as well. sure enough, came with high expectations and left happy! 4.5 stars actually!! meal started with some calamari.....it was average at best. squid wasnt that fresh and felt it was from frozen. breading was just right but the dish was not properly seasoned. tasted a bit bland. for mains, we tried the fish tacos, roast beef dip, the carbonara, and the smoked salmon benny! fish tacos were awesome. 2 big servings. fish was breaded beautifully. the batter was outstanding that it gave the fish a "puffy effect!" fish used wasnt minced fish but actual fish pieces. the salsa and the vegs complimented the dish well and every bite was a delight! the roast beef dip was the best dish for me. tender juicy shavings of roast beef piled high and stuff between 2 garlic buttered fresh brioche bread. came with a huge serving if amazing fries hat were twice fried, and seasoned well. the catsup just added the extra zing! the au jus was awesome as well. perfectly balanced beef flavours, that when the sandwich was dipped in it and then eaten...wow! juicy goodness in your mouth!! the carbonara was another impressive dish! the sauce tasted fresh. so creamy and appetizing. real chunks of bacon was used and not the freeze dried ones, giving the dish more flavour and texture. might have been drizzled with too much olive oil but i didnt mind it. served with 2 pieces of toasted garlic bread. perfect lunch spot! lastly, the smoked salmon benny was simply majestic! 2 eggs perfectly poached and topped with creamy hollandaise sauce. one of the best ive ever tasted. the salmon looked so fresh as if it came off the boat. nice marbling on the salmon pieces...very well executed! service was above par. all our needs and requests were taken care of. we left very happy! yes, i'd visit again , but this time to try their happy hour! definitely a must visit when coming to the fishing village. the views of the water and the fishing boats idling by are amazing! what a way to enjoy brunch! cheers! happy eating! read more

We've had dinner at the restaurant and patio before but didn't really appreciate this place until we dined at the bar. First of all, the service is better, more intimate, casual and fun. Our server today, Olivia, was run off her feet but still maintained very good service, was friendly, got our order immediately (as I was starving), delivered our drinks promptly and prioritized our appies so I could eat right away! She even recommended adding passion fruit for my second mojito which I enjoyed as much as the original one. Secondly, the food was really good. I had the Catch spaghetti and my husband had the beef dip with dry ribs for our appetizer. The spaghetti was very tasty and size was ample for another meal. The beef dip was awesome and we loved the curly fries it came with as they were seasoned well and crispy. The ribs were perfect to start with, flavorful and had quite a bit of meat in them and not just bones. Lastly, the price can't be beat, specially, since we went during happy hour. Drinks were $6.00 each and the ribs were $9.00! We will definitely be back... and soon! read more

We made a reservation for my birthday - just my wife and I. When we arrived at the appointed time we had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated - in the half empty restaurant. Our window table had a fabulous view of the water & harbour. Service was slow and only got slower before coming to a complete halt. The food we ordered was first rate - mussels, brushettas, brocolli & stilton soup, crab cakes & caesar salad. We waited - and waited - and waited for our server to return or at least acknowledge our existence, to order dessert - but she never returned, no she never returned Finally we had to go and stand by the Reception Desk in order to ask for the bill. As a result, Catch Kitchen missed out on more food sales, a bigger tip, any return visits and a positive recommendation. Go for the food - stay (a long time) for the abysmal service. read more

It was my first time here in Steveston. Knowing me, on a nice warm afternoon, a patio is where you will find me. Given this place was on the second floor. This was the place to try out. It has a decent view of the fisherman's wharf. I ordered a fresh wild salmon and it blew me away. (Maybe it is because I am from Toronto, and not use to fresh salmon. But was it good)! What more can I ask for? Good view, service and food! I would come back here. read more

Environment (4/5): The restaurant is located in Steveston village meaning it's by the waters so I'd definitely recommend grabbing seats at the patio on a nice hot summer day. It has been awhile since I dined here but it seems like they did a nice reno (more modern) Food (2/5): For appys, we ordered calamari (nth spectacular), lime & tequila prawns (nice flavour but too salty), salt & pepper wings (probably the best appy but wish the size of the wings were bigger), scallop & bacon (overcooked), mussels (a lot of the mussels were still closed) to share. For entrees, we had lobster tail dinner (WAY TOO SALTY to the point left a bitter taste...was craving sweets right after), Alaska crab legs and New York steak (not a fan of the seasoning/sauce). As for their drinks, I do like the passionfruit mojito! Price (3/5): Price is reflected on the location. You're at a touristy spot so I wouldn't expect them charging less. However, I don't think the quality of the food is worth the price. You have so many more options to choose from! Service (3.5/5): Appetizers and drinks came on time. Unfortunately the entrees took a little longer than expected but I guess it's understandable considering we have a large party. Our waitress was good but could be more attentive. Ps. they have happy hours from 3-530pm! Would I come back? Maybe for Happy Hour? read more

Saturday June 3rd. My family celebrated my moms birthday. 4 adults and 2 kids. All adults got food poisoning, thank God kids didn't eat anything but fries. We all still feel bad, we're suspecting "seafood stew". We didn't even plan to order the "seafood stew". Ordered only because restaurant didn't have king crabs, or enough lobsters for 4 people. Restaurant was supposed to have a wedding party later that day and all good food was reserved for them and i suspect that they gave us all expired crap that they had. Very disappointed and highly di not recommend. We will escalate this review to city authorities. read more

We had a group of six for lunch, and we chose the dining room side closer to the water. Our corner table had excellent views. The waitress was very pleasant and accommodating. None of us was super hungry, so most ordered appetizers. Two shared the crab cakes, two shared the Mediterranean flatbread, one had the Catch sliders (one each of chicken, salmon, and pork), and the last had a burger with no bun and salad. We all enjoyed our food, but the crab cakes were a little on the small size. The flatbread was surprisingly large. I would like to eat here again to try some of the other items on the menu. read more

Catch Kitchen + Bar - View - Sports Bars Near Me - Richmond, British Columbia

Visiting the historic village of Steveston, although not really that far away, is still a treat for us... especially when the weather is sunny and the smell of the salt air mixes with the aroma of freshly fried fish and chips. That being said, we do like to try different restaurants so we wound up visiting Catch Kitchen + Bar located on the second floor above Blue Canoe Waterfront. Many moons ago, we visited a restaurant in this same location and had a really great seafood crêpe dish... still looking for a restaurant that does this. While Catch Kitchen + Bar doesn't offer crêpes, they do have a nice seafood menu that takes advantage of their location. Speaking of which, their location gives you a nice view of the Steveston pier and the interior of the restaurant looks fairly trendy and clean with plenty of young servers that are decked out in stylish black skirts. While we were visiting on a Sunday, we weren't looking for brunch so we just stuck to their regular lunch menu and ordered a bunch of appies. The Snow Crab Corn Chowder ($11) was the first dish to arrive and was a hit. The bowl is a fairly generous size and chock full of chunky veggies and real crab meat with a slight spicy kick to it. Next up was the Crab Cakes ($14.25) made with snow crab meat mixed with peppers and green onions and paired with a smokey aioli dipping sauce. The crab cakes were light and airy with a nice crispness to the outer shell. Our next appy dish was the Tequila Lime Prawns ($12.50) pan-fried with tequila and chipotle and then topped with cilantro. These plump shrimp were really good with a nice snap to the bite and a good flavour to boot. Our last dish on our visit was a order of Mussels ($18). The mussels themselves were a bit on the small side but they came with bread and a really super garlic butter that I really enjoyed. Overall, there's some pretty good eats here and a nice view of the Steveston pier and harbour. read more

Went for dinner and had 15mins left for happy hour and so we ordered 2 beer and their dry ribs. The dry ribs were excellent, better Joey's and Cactus! For dinner we ordered the prime rib and fish tacos. The prime was good but unfortunately nothing on the plate was hot except for the baked potato...that was a bit disappointing. I liked my fish taco and wished it came in 3's instead of 2's! I would give this place 4 star if the prime rib wasn't cold...the view is spectacular as the restaurant is located on the top floor...worth going back! March 17, 2018 So we went back for lunch...had their classic eggs Benny and Ham/cheese omelette...nothing spectacular but we ordered the "pick me up" drink for $7.99 and it tasted like milk with a tint of coffee! Not impress with the drink nor the waitress' attitude... Done with this place...to many other places to try to put up with bad customer service and not so great food... read more

Located in the fishermans wharf are of Steveston, this place is right on the waters edge and offers upscale dining both indoors in air conditioned comfort or outside on the view deck. Service was quite good and the prices were high but on par with the area. Tasty on tap brews were welcomed. I had one of the best fish and chip meals I can remember with big pieces of beer battered fish and skin-on fries. Everyone enjoyed their meals and we had a delightful lunch in a cool setting. read more

This was my first experience at this restaurant. Decided to come here during happy hour for food and drinks. I had the bruschetta, gyoza and a classic caesar. Although the food was decent, it was very small portions and in my opinion overpriced. The service is where this restaurant really lacked. Long wait for ordering drinks and food, long wait for getting food, long wait for more drinks and an extremely long wait for the bill. All in all, if you have time to sit around for long periods of time waiting for half decent food, you might like this place. read more

The service was amazing. We were in a rush to get to the airport and they worked hard to ensure a quick departure. With that the food was still amazing. Very promising start for this new restaurant in Steveston. Visited during their test kitchen. Views are spectacular, space is large and open, yet well-appointed and warm. We ordered the lemon butter halibut, mussels, crab cakes, sliders and fish and chips. Food was very tasty, although halibut was over cooked. The fried chicken slider was a stand out. My favourite type of crab cake is with ample crab and little bread that's pan seared and not deep fried. Catch's crab cake is of this variety and nicely done, although would use less salt and allow the crab meat to shine. We were particularly impressed with their cocktails. Their Caesar is one of the best around! And the bartenders here are of the caliber you find in downtown Vancouver, mixing classic cocktails off the menu like a Manhattan impressively. Richmond severely lacks an upscale place to lounge in that also knows their drinks. I hope to see them expand their cocktail menu to include more classics and small/share plates. I'll be back! read more

Well The Catch rarely disappoints in the atrocious service, mediocre food and loud music department . And last night was no different, though food was worse than usual. I needed a magnifying glass to locate the small dry chicken and salmon on my sliders.. 4 of us were there for 3.5 hours, only had 2 drinks each because no one offered us more.. we cleared our own table onto the bar, asked for the bill then 15 mins later asked if we could pay it. Then our absent server asked the 4 middle aged peeps ...what are the rest of your plans tonight.... the new standard line.. Metamucil and bed. We go there as there's not a lot of choice in Steveston and Brittania was full. Where's the owner? I keep asking this question.. over and over ;) read more

Meh. Came here on a weekend, and I saw this place wasn't busy at all. It was empty for the most part. We ordered wine, fish and chips and clam chowder. The clam chowder was too thick, and there wasn't too much soup in it - mostly dry. I didn't drink the soup, I ATE the soup. The fish and chips were okay. The fish wasn't as soft as I had hoped, but better than the clam chowder. The service was bad. Either the waiter was playing hide and seek with us or Thanos snapped his fingers. He vanished. We needed water refill and get the bill and etc. I got too thirsty from eating the clam chowder... And finally we found him and called him over to get our bill (yes, we had to take the initiative and signal him over). After he went back to the counter, I thought he was going to bring us the bill immediately. But no, he was leisurely strolling around instead. So I had to make eye contact with him to remind him. Now I'm thirsty from the soup and my eyes are tired. read more

Terrible food, appauling service, disappointing ambiance and overpriced. This was the worst restaurant experience that we've had in years. We sorely regret not going to one of the takeout huts on the pier instead of this place. FOOD: The corn/crab chowder (that took 30 minutes!) Was just corn chowder. The slider trio tasted like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for ages. The meat was dried up and bread was hard as a rock - inedible. The calamari was the worst calamari that we've had in years. Frozen to fryer, no taste, no seasoning and overdone. This is when we realized that all their food is most likely from GFS, not the daily catch like every other place nearby. The fish tacos came with frozen guacamole in them... Fish was over fried. Oil was dark and looked old. The salmon sandwich came on a cheap hamburger bun. For $17, you can afford some decent bread. The salmon was overcooked, and tasted like it was done in a salamander (poor choice - but quicker than other cooking methods - still took 30 minutes to arrive). SERVICE: The service was appauling. There were 3 hosts on (or the servers were just chilling at the host stand). None of the hosts smiled or seemed friendly. Our server took 10 minutes to come to the table to greet us (the restaurant was not busy). She did not apologize for the delay. She did not ask us if we needed help with the menu or make any sort of small talk with us to engage us on a personal level at all during any interaction. She never came by to quality check our food (apps or mains). She disappeared for a while during our wait for our food. We assume she was standing in the kitchen waiting for our food, but she never communicated to us that there was a delay in the kitchen or apologized for the delay when the food arrived. One dish came out incorrect. A different server dropped off the incorrect plate (fries served instead of salad). Proper etiquette would have been to leave the dish on the table, apologize, and bring out the correct side complimentary. This of course was not what happened. The plate was removed and brought back to the kitchen while a new side was prepared, then the whole dish was brought back to the table and re-presented (we had already been in the resturant for over an hour by this point and we were quite agitated that we were still waiting on our food). Our regular server also did not apologize for this mix up. Maybe she was not informed that this had even happened. The bartender (who we could hear over the music) had no idea what the wine was that I ordered with my lunch was and she had to ask a server what it was. The bartender was actually cringe worthy to watch. She made drinks very slow, made them poorly, grabbed glassware by the rim of the glass before serving them to guests (unsanitary), and she seemed to have a poor attitude with a false confidence to her. (I'd recommend completing retraining her and giving her a menu knowledge and service expectation test. If she fails she should be terminated). The sangria that she made was just a bit of wine with oj and water and citrus. She actually squeezed lemon wedges into it. I wanted to go behind the bar and teach her how to make a sangria. AMBIANCE: Non existent. They were playing elevator music at a low level. We could hear the service staff conversations above the music, which really ruined the atmosphere. What is with the ceiling? It's a real eye sore. High ceilings are a bonus, but not when they look gross. Maybe cover those with some draped white curtains like they do in barn weddings. They had almost an entirely female staff and we think they were trying for a Joeys or Cactus Club vibe, but failing miserably. Management needs to be on the floor speaking with guests and rectifying issues. Where was the manager during all this? All staff severely need customer service training/re-training. Watching interactions at other tables, smiles are definitely not very high on anyones priority list. Kitchen needs a solid sous chef back there quality checking on expo before food leaves the pass. Do you know how to sous vide? It might solve a bunch of your timeliness and food quality problems. read more

We came here for dinner super hungry after a long day of outdoor activities. We obviously wanted to try seafood and expected the best quality, due to it's location. We ordered tequila lime prawns, fish & chips, baja fish tacos & lobster mac amd cheese. All dishes except tequila lime prawns were extremely bland. However, Prawns were overcooked. The batter in the fish and chips were very thick & again had no flavor. Lobster in the mac and cheese were overcooked. It was so bad that we didn't want to have a second bite! How a restaurant with such high ratings and so close to best fish mongers in the city can serve such bland and overcooked fish is really beyond my comprehension! read more

A sports bar with the Steveston harbour ambiance. The service was great overall and we had a fun night here with a large group of friends. Unfortunately the food did not fit in with the atmosphere... "Catch", immediately seafood came to mind. Calamari was nothing special but we were happy enough with it. The Muscles appetizer so incredibly salty and small for $17.25. The Sesame Tuna salad was very disappointing. I love seared tuna but this seemed like it easily could have been prepackaged and the dressing was way too sweet. There wasn't salt and pepper on the table, nor was any offered to us. If you are looking for a place to have some drinks and watch the game or enjoy the views, I can definitely recommend this place. However, if you are looking for a great meal, there are much better options near by. read more

I was up here recently with a friend and my hubbyfor dinner.the view over Steveston Harbour was nice we chose to stay inside rather than go on the patio because of the heat the server was excellent she was exceptionally good! I should note that catches on the second floor so you get a good view of the pier as a vegetarian I could find several options. I ended up having a Greek salad which quite frankly is not that great and looks much better than it tasted it was also a bit on the small size in terms of portion. The other people at my table had dishes that quite frankly looked and tasted much better than mine. I wished I had the pastor in the photo I attached! That said I think that in general the food is probably excellent care and as I said before the service from our server at least was fantastic super friendly and efficient and enthusiastic. With great views over the harbour this is a fantastic place to go for a bite to eat read more

Hmmm what's with this buggy Yelp app? Anyways after my first review of when they just opened with their test kitchen. My mom and her friends and other family members came to try it out. None of them rated it well enough for the money they spent. Was it because they were comparing it to their predecessors here? I decided to order take out. Mom wanted beef dip and they had it here. Will have to rate it with the neighbours beef dip and see who the winner is. For now, I can say that it was good enough for my mom to want it again. She liked her meal, which is always a good thing. She can be really picky. I did the same thing again, ordering the fish tacos which were good, but maybe not quite as good as before. Then I realized the price. Shouldn't I be getting three tacos for that price? It just seemed these were smaller. Maybe my mouth got bigger. But it was tasty enough to meet the equivalent rating I originally gave it at 3.5 stars. Now the surprise was the take out pasta. Loved the olives and the cheese and it spaghetti was cooked al dente. Nearly perfect. It was more puttanesca than spaghetti. It was the best dish ordered that night. I'm giving them 3 stars because despite the good views and service and decent food. It was pricey during a season that is supported more by the locals than the tourists. So how do you get more locals to come and dine? Offer a better value than your competition. Especially when they're located out of view despite the great views they have to offer. Or offer more food. Or make the food more exclusive to warrant the prices. But I have to admit, I do like the food here. And the view is date worthy. read more

Now I know why this place is called catch, because you're certainly caught one you're in there... Not often you can pull of a trifecta of bad service, worse food and overpriced! Arrived for a brunch reso - no one at hostess stand and waited and waited... Had to ask our server for menus. Very very very slow service overall and it was moderately busy. Don't think it was our servers fault necessarily, perhaps poorly staffed or people didn't show up to work? On to the food - eggs benny. Who doesn't toast an English muffin? So you get this doughy damp mess (both orders), although eggs done right. Corn chowder with snow crab? That's what the menu said. What arrived was lukewarm greyish coloured goop with no flavour and the smell of a fish market at the end of the day when it's 35 degrees out, inedible and not touched. Mediterranean flat bread was probably the best thing at the table and that's not saying much. Slightly stale pre made crust with some toppings and balsamic reduction, also fairly tasty other than salty from the feta and olives. Server advised of food issues (not that anyone asked), and did say she would to the kitchen. And? This might be a spot to enjoy the view and have a drink (if you can find someone to serve you one), but just about anywhere else nearby is better in every regard. Good thing it's catch and release after paying the outrageous bill (for what it was), as I will never be caught at Catch again! read more

I ordered the Cajun Salmon. The rice was the plainest of plain. I cook salmon much better myself so I expect better from a seafood themed restaurant and the veg (green beans) were plain. The server did not bother to ask how the meal was even though I barely ate any of it. The other customers were well heeled but I think this is because there is a lack of competition for restaurants in Steveston rather than because of the quality of the fare. Having said this, the location is excellent and the view of the wharf from the outside seating area is great. They also provide fleece blankets in case it gets chilly - a nice touch. read more

Tasty but pricey for what you get. A friend and I were finishing off a nice morning bike ride and decided we needed to refuel at the nearest food establishment, pronto. Seeing as misplaced were packed because of the brunch crowd we decided to try The Catch. The place was pretty empty, but it has recently opened not too long ago so that didn't deter us. We ended up sharing the spinach and blue cheese soup (so creamy and tasty without being over powering) and the mussels in broth which came with a sizable piece of bread (awesome). The broth was excellent with a hinting spiciness and we practically drank that in its own! Unfortunately for some reason, the mussels here were super tiny...we also ordered a side of fries to go with the mussels, which were just okay. Service was pretty spot on, and I loved the view and decor. However, as I mentioned, for what you get, it seems a bit too pricey. I'll definitely come back to give this place another shot though. read more

Nice view from the store. We ordered Edamame and some drinks. Edamame was kind of interesting way to serve. One thing that I wasn't impressed was the way of the sever put glass on the table. Most of the food was pretty good. Unfortunately, they burnt the grilled cheese sandwich for my little guy. So after we showed the waitress, they made another one for him. Very interesting how they could've brought out that burnt piece ..... Since we were are Steveston, we naturally ordered fish and chips. That was of course delicious! Seafood wasn't very fresh, they didn't have any fresh fish except for salmon. Their dine-out surf and turf was so small it was like something from the kid's menu. The steak tasted like not a very good cut that had been tenderized by a meat cleaver. A reservation for a birthday gets you a seat at the door, so you better specify that you want window seating if you want to see the view.
