Came here to celebrate my anniversary as won a gift card to use. The restaurant is located on the…read moreground floor of the Seaside Hotel in North Vancouver and has two entrances - one from the street and another through the hotel. My boyfriend and I were in a seafood mood and ordered the following: Seafood Tower: A showstopper. Beautifully presented, overflowing with fresh oysters, chilled prawns, lobster rolls, caviche, and tuna tartar. Everything tasted fresh and ocean-sweet but the lobster rolls buns were getting wet and soggy from the plate to ice condensation - an oversight on presentation logistics. Wagyu Carpaccio: Melt-in-your-mouth perfection. The wagyu was sliced paper thin and had that rich, buttery texture you hope for. The shaved truffle garnishe added just enough flavour without overshadowing the beef. Served with a few pieces of sourdough bread, it was one of my favourites. Roasted Chicken: I know--ordering chicken at a seafood-forward spot felt risky, but it ended up being one of the surprise standouts. Perfectly roasted with crispy skin and juicy, flavorful meat. It was served with a zesty sauce and roasted vegetables and really homey and tasty. Scallops Risotto: Creamy, aromatic, and cooked to that ideal al dente bite. The scallops were seared beautifully--golden on the outside and tender inside. Service was warm and attentive, and the coastal-chic atmosphere made the whole experience feel relaxed but still special. If you're anywhere near the area, Seaside Provisions is worth a visit especially since they have a Happy Hour.

They were served with fresh grated horseradish which I rarely see. There were also a few sauces to try with the oysters if you want to get a little more variety We ordered Garlic Prawns in a tomato sauce, Steamed Clams in a wine sauce, and a ton of garlic bread to dip. I could have just eaten that and been happy. Fried Oysters are massive and come fully loaded with sauce and garnish Po-boys are almost like a half Po-Boy on that same garlic bread 1 lb bucket of crab - snow crab served with butter - we even dipped this in the tomato and wine sauces This was just a fun experience using our hands and making our way through the pile of seafood delivered to us. It was quite hot the day we went, so we had to survive the outdoors and partial sun. But overall, really good time for everyone in my family. They gave us a few wet wipes, but there was no way they would get the job done. I needed a sink to handle what my hands had become by the end of the meal. Note they only operate from Thursday to Sunday during the winter season and hours are different in the summer. And yes, their outdoor patio seating is very popular during the summer tourist season. Plenty of free street parking options close by. This place maintains quite timely updates on their social media profiles making it easy to check their IG/Facebook to find out re: special events or weekly specials. Service was welcoming and friendly for dining in plus we didn't feel rushed when asking them about weekly specials and wine recommendations. Not typical "Bar" food! It's a hard to find hole in the wall, the main entrance is deep within the building and the street signage is hard to spot. He was our expert and patiently guided our group to our selection out of the many tantalizing options on the menu. His attention to excellence is a model that I hope that all restaurant staff would aspire to. I will keep this visit as one of the finest dining experiences I've had in Vancouver. Go check it out! Not just my dishes, I asked around and about half of the others' dishes were lukewarm as well. Deposit required for large groups and no split bills which is totally understandable. FYI no balloons allowed but they're okay to serve cake. PEI New York Striploin 10oz horseradish butter + fried negi ($38) Not a super great cut, difficult to chew. Gravy tastes like the powdered version off the shelf. Wish it was hotter when served. Slow Braised Beef Cheek + Foie Gras mashed potato + grilled broccolini + triple pepper cream ($49) Mashed potatoes were hot, yay! Everything else not so much. 2 pieces of foie gras. Beef cheek was quite tender. Broccolini triple pepper jus + pecan ($14) Slightly colder than lukewarm, with the same powdered gravy. I liked the pecan though. Service was okay, they served some of the cocktails all on one side, and I had to distribute down the table to find the owner of the drink. Staff don't know who ordered what, which I was a little surprised. Decor is dimly lit, trying to go for a chic sophisticated look. I enjoyed the atmosphere and high ceilings and the concept of the place, but the main event (food) was a let down.

We choose a seat inside the restaurant as it was somewhat cool by the patio door, that was open. There is nice music playing at a comfortable volume. The room is nicely decorated and there is good spacing between the tables. It was very comfortable as the room was not noisey. We were given both a patio menu and the regular menu and we asked for the happy hour menu as there was still time left for happy hour. When we asked about the happy hour wine, one of the men, I believe he may have been the manager said that on Sundays they have bottles of wine for 50% off and he brought the list over to us. This was much better value than the happy hour wine by the glass. We shared an order of teriyaki chicken wings from the happy hour menu. It was a generous serving, and the wings were very good. For entrees my husband had the lamb shank with potatoes substituted for the risotto and I had sea bass. There was no problem with the substitution. My husband said his lamb shank was good. I enjoyed my sea bass. It was well cooked and there were 3 good sized shrimp with it. It was very tasty, but I would have preferred a bit less stock in the dish. For dessert we shared an apple passion fruit tarte that came with ice cream. The ice cream was a pleasant surprise as it was not mentioned on the menu. The tarte was good but we could not taste any passion fruit. It was a good evening. Service was good, the food was good and the room is very comfortable. It is good value for the money.

This is a great place for casual hang outs and quick dates. It's a bit far out in Lonsdale, but I would go out of my way for the views especially in the summer time! The servers are all really nice and they do a great job to communicating with each other to get customers in and up the stairs to their table. For this time, we came in with a group of 6 people and shared a bunch of appetizers and pizzas. I tried the new truffle pasta and although the meatballs were a bit salty, the pappardelle was yummy! King Taps is also quite well known for their delicious pizzas. I've tried a few pizzas in the past and they were quite good, but this time I tried the rotator pizza (vodka pie) and the mac daddy (big mac inspired pizza). The vodka pie was a bit too salty for me, but the mac daddy was interesting and refreshing to try! A lot of people in my group liked the vodka pie as it was something different as well. As always, you can't go wrong with truffle fries and brussels sprouts. I think I like King Taps a little more than Cactus Club as they have more of my preferred variety in the menu. You're not coming here for gourmet food, but you can definitely get solid bites and a solid time with loved ones. If I recall, their happy hour is also unbeatable - $7 cocktails, food starting at $7 and $5 beer/well highballs. King Taps is definitely a go to spot!

First, we were seated quickly upon arrival, even though the restaurant looked busy for a Tuesday night. The servers were personable and genuinely kind, which set the tone for the rest of our dinner. The appetizers and drinks came out quickly, and both the chicken wings and calamari were some of the best we've ever had. Most calamari is served with tartar or marinara sauce, but their version came with a much more elevated yuzu sauce. Delicious! The mains were beautifully plated and tasted even better. The salmon had a light, balanced seasoning and was perfectly cooked, not dry at all. The steak and peri peri chicken were well seasoned as well, with a seared crust and moist interior. My daughter loved the pasta, too. For dessert, we ordered the Cloud 9, which was perfectly named. It was a banana cake drizzled with sauce and topped with ice cream, whipped cream, and fresh bananas. We're already planning what to order on our next visit because the menu had so many other items we definitely want to try. This was the best meal we've had in Vancouver, and we highly recommend it.

They offered to split our lobster bisque so we could each have our own. We've also tried their tableside salad and desserts before and enjoyed the shows. My toddler wanted to get a closer look. The ambience is moody with high ceilings, low lighting, and plush seats. There is a constant buzz of conversations around us to provide a bit of intimacy and privacy to our conversations, while also allowing our toddler to be just a bit rowdy without feeling like we are disturbing the other guests. Of the food, I love the mushroom side with the truffle fondue. I wanted to dip everything in it as it was so flavourful and delicious. Complimentary bread with butter and blue cheese butter were offered to start. The brussel sprouts side was also unique with the added pistachios and a crisp for some crunch. The hearty mussels and clams starter were great for a rainy evening. Portion was enough as a meal by itself, too! There is a covered parking lot for those driving. I suggest making reservations as it can be quite busy!

This was my fourth visit to Alta Steak & Fish, and unfortunately, this was also my most…read moredisappointing experience. For my last three visits, we ordered the Tomahawk steak everytime. The first time was amazing--the portion was generous and the steak was cooked really well. The second time wasn't quite as impressive, but still enjoyable. This time, however, the Tomahawk was noticeably below the standard I had experienced before. The doneness wasn't quite right, with quite a bit of over-charred exterior, and there was also a lot more fat than I expected. What I found particularly strange was the way the steak was presented this time. Normally, a Tomahawk has the meat on one side of the bone, but this one seemed to have the meat separated into two sections, almost as if it had been cut through the middle of the steak. It just didn't feel like the Tomahawk I was used to having here. The steak also cooled down very quickly, and once it got cold, the texture became noticeably tougher and less enjoyable. The service was also particularly slow this time. We were seated around 7:30 PM and placed our food and drink orders within about 30 minutes. The drinks came out within roughly 20 minutes, which was reasonable, but we waited almost an hour before the first appetizer finally arrived. Considering it wasn't an especially busy evening, the wait felt quite long. That said, the other dishes were still pretty good. I especially enjoyed the Stuffed Squid appetizer. Overall, I still think Alta is a nice option for a small gathering or dinner with friends. I've enjoyed my previous visits, which is why I keep coming back. I just really hope the Tomahawk can return to the quality it had on my first visit.
