Hands down one of the desert's best restaurants -- a true gem. Upon arrival enjoyed a sincere welcome, followed by the most spectacular complimentary rustic table bread and homemade pesto. Their sangria is mind blowing. The mix took me right back to afternoons in Spain...it was like a vacation in a glass. My husband and I split the Cast Iron Lamb Loin Chops with Summer zuchinni, mint, currants, green harissa, and labneh. They were absolutely decadent! We also enjoyed the sautéed corn & chorizo and some beautiful garlic shrimp. All which were absolutely delicious and featured fresh, quality ingredients. We had a great experience at Catalan and will absolutely be back. We tried the buttermilk fried chicken livers as an appetizer- a truly unusual combo of flavors that was very tasty. For entrees we tried the lamb chops - a very generous portion perfectly cooked and probably amongst the very best lamb chops we've ever eaten - and the beef short ribs that were very tender and flavorful. Service was meh. Our waiter checked in on us very infrequently. After we were sat down by the host, it took our waiter about 15 minutes to come by for our order. Food was great! We had the charred octopus as a starter and it was a wonderful dish. We each had a paella mixta for our entree. It was a good dish, but very dense. We tried this place I've been curious for a while a couple days ago with our friends. Their exterior looks very simple but interior was so unique. There is a covered patio in the middle of the restaurant which is surrounded by glass so you see through. It felt little warm for us so we chose the booth inside. We ordered wedge salad, Romain salad, arugula & Granny Smith apple salad, Paella, Scallops, Snow Cod. They were all delicious especially scallops were bomb!! Paella was little bit too wet for me but there are lots of seafood and sausage in it. Cod was moist and perfect with steamed asparagus. For dessert, we ordered chocolate filled Spanish Churros , sorbet trio and banana & cream cheese bunuelos. I didn't taste churros but my friends said it was good. By far the worst experience! In all my years (which are many) I have never ordered desert and desert wine, instructed the waiter that we would be right back, returned in less time than it takes the average person to wash their hands, only to find our remaining wine (1/2 bottle) and food (5oz. of Jamon Iberico and a complete charcuterie platter) gone, with people sitting at our table! As a long time guest this was equally disappointing as it was insulting! I understand restaurants have had a tough time and would like to squeeze in as many guests as possible as the frustrated crowds come back, but as a business if you do it at the cost of insulting long time guests that came to you even during pandemic, well you shouldn't be surprised that even long committed guests vow never to return. As you can tell by previous reviews, I've been a long time fan of this restaurant, since Cynthia left it has taken a turn, she had a way of making every guest feel special and acknowledging her frequent guests. The service was great and the food was amazing! Since the pandemic and change in ownership and management our experiences have been less than stellar and the food quality has gone down, I was willing to excuse it as the stresses of the pandemic and that Cory (new manager) was still in a learning curve. After what happened yesterday evening, I can no longer excuse it as that. After our waiter profusely apologized, he went to Cory who's solution was to credit us for the 1/2 bottle of wine they took from the table, never mind that they took the jamon iberico and the charcuterie platter as well. But overall, it not even about the money, it's the fact that Cory didn't take the 2 minutes of his time to come address that matter himself. I was willing to excuse that the service and food is no longer on par with what it was. That they no longer know how to treat their finer ingredients with respect, jamon iberico should be sliced paper then to the point of almost being translucent, not as thick as a slab of beef jerky as it was yesterday. No one is paying attention to the food quality or guest experience. But when your manager is also your bartender (so he can share tips with his servers) your destined to fail. He can't be both and anyone who wants to be the owner of a fine dining restaurant should know that!! read more

Great dinner! My husband and I had a reservation at Catalan on a Friday at 8pm. The server is very friendly and welcoming. We had the octopus for appetizer. It's so good. The green sauce/pesto is very flavorful. We like it a lot. We also ordered the paella, scallops, and a side of brussel sprouts. The seafood in the paella is fresh and there's a lot of meat in it. Ugh. So terrible and overpriced. Sign advertises "Patio Dining," but there is no patio. There is an enclosed atrium, which used to have vines on the walls. Apparently, they've all died and been left on the walls, which isn't remotely attractive. Food was unremarkable and grossly over-priced. Summer salad with shrimp and strawberries had no strawberries and only four shrimp, for $28. And that was only after having been brought the incorrect entree. I won't come back. read more

Fantastic food!! We ordered the lamb and the paella for delivery and they were both astonishingly good. Paella was al dente and seafood was perfectly cooked (how did they accomplish that with delivery??), and the lamb was tender and medium rare (again, how did they do that with delivery?) and the sauce it came with was delicious. They threw in free bread which was crusty and warm with a delicious pesto sauce. Wonderful high end food just as good as you would get in an indoor dining experience--delivered! One bad thing is that I asked for them medium and they cane out medium well, even well in some places. They still tasted good but it wasn't my preferred texture. The layout of this restaurant makes it very easy for diners to choose the specific atmosphere that they want. The artwork, the decorations, and the seating were quite enjoyable. The men's restroom was clean and tidy. The service. We were greeted at the door by the chef's mother. She welcomed us, as if we were old friends, into her "home." It was over 100 degrees outside and the waiter promptly came to our table and asked what we would like to drink. He was attentive and helpful throughout the meal. After we ordered, we had a warm conversation with Cynthia, Chef Drew's delightful Ecuadorian wife, who helped us to understand the history and philosophy of the restaurant. Then, de repente, the food appeared. Throughout the meal the food came at the proper pace, which for us is relaxed but not slow. The food. First, simply put, we had the best gazpacho in our long experience with that soup on three continents. Next, the grilled octopus was cooked to perfection and so beautifully presented that we photographed it. We finished our meal with two generous pieces of the most tender pork loin with an amazing salsa. We were so satisfied that we didn't even look at the desert menu knowing that though this was our first visit, it wouldn't be our last. We've already made reservations for a return visit with other friends. On leaving, we met Chef Drew, who was standing at the entrance with Cynthia, as if we were honored guest leaving their gracious home. Considering the quality of the entire dining experience, the price of each course was reasonable. Had dinner there on 3/11. Reservation was confirmed for 7:15. Seeing we were arriving about 10 minutes late, I called the restaurant to let them know and was told it was not a problem. Arrived and was told it might be a couple of minutes for a table. After about 15 minutes we saw an empty table, but it was for 6 people and we were only 4. After 15 more minutes table was still empty and we were told it was still being held for a reservation for 6. (It was after their supposed reservation. After about a total of an hour wait we got seated. Normally would have left, but we didn't have any options. Ordered our appetizers. 3 of the 4 of them came. The mussels were very salty and had to be sent back. The replacements were not any better. Main course finally came and the quality was a good as the service, very poor. BTW: when we finally went to leave the infamous table for 6 was still empty As we are locals it is now no longer on our going out list of places. We went to Catalan on a Saturday night for our friends bachelorette party. We made reservations and were seated promptly. Our waitress was very accommodating to the time it took our group to figure out what they all wanted to eat. The food was delicious and the drinks were tasty as well. I give them a four out of five stars is for a couple reasons, one being that when you go to a "Tapas" restaurant you expect to order a bunch of smaller shareable plates. This was not the case. Their menu is regular size portions. In addition to this, the menu is limited to approximately 10 entree options, which would be fine, except for the fact that they ran out of the rigatoni with beef cheek that a few of us wanted which made us go with "the next best dish." The plate I ordered was shrimp with linguini and sun dried tomatoes. As I said before, it was delicious. I did try Paella that someone else ordered and it was fine in terms of taste but the girl that ate it found quite a bit of sand in the mussels. read more

Wife and I had a great experience a couple of weeks back. Called same day and got a reservation for Saturday night at 7:30. Sat outside in the beautiful, quiet patio courtyard. Several wine-by-the bottle choices in the $30 range. Pleased to see they had Estrella Damm beer by the bottle. If you want to taste Barcelona, you need to have an Estrella or two. We were in Barcelona three years ago, and I can tell you, they definitely drink it there! Shared the 1/2 wedge salad ($8) to start. Loved the $9 cauliflower puree with truffle oil...needed to find a cook-at-home recipe for that one! Catalan Paella ($28) is served in a miniature paella pan and almost big enough to share, but I didn't! It was chock full of clams, shrimp, Spanish chorizo slices, chicken and other high quality ingredients. With lots of smokey paprika, it was almost red in color. I don't know if that's a popular or authentic preparation, but personally, I really enjoyed it. Others might be put off by the intensity. Service was very good and unobtrusive. The only downside is that the restaurant menu is pretty limited. Lots of space is dedicated to a $49 per person suckling pig dinner (72 hour notice required) and another multi-course prix fixe meal, neither of which were appealing. Definitely recommend, and would like to return, perhaps in the bar area. There are some very good specials from 4-5 p.m.; others until 6:00 and the larger tapas menu is available after that. read more

Octopus was tender inside, house made Fish dip (I thought it was going to be 'fishy' but on the contrary), the pita that complimented it was really good, but eat it while it's hot. Calf's liver....awesome! It comes with the mushrooms, leeks and bacon; so don't order the side of mushroom if you ordered the liver. Paella is a decent size; can feed 3 moderate-sized stomachs. It's too much for one person. I lovvveeed the corn! Though it contains chorizo, its small pieces of it. It does have thin slices of jalapeño but not spicy at all. Talking about dessert, we 'were' going to skip...but I guess luckily we didn't. The churros, which I was told that the milk chocolate is inside, not dipped. Well, it came out steaming hot, chocolate inside, btw, it's dark chocolate which I'm not fond of. Because there's six in an order, I had to help eat one. Took a bite of it....wow, it was heaveness!!!! The churro was so delicious! Ended up eating 2! But the rice pudding is not to be missed. It's light, some cinnamon and a sprinkle of macerated strawberries. Ordered a bottle of wine, but after the initial pour, server didn't replenish. Too many people asking our table things and the line of communication was not clear.
