Our favorites were jamon, garlic shrimp, goat cheese stuffed peppers, sausage, leaks with mushrooms side, liver main,squid ink paella, and seafood mix main. The desert churro were yummy too. Tables were spread out and you didn't feel cramped. REstrooms were clean. Service: Fantastic throughout. Very attentive servers who made great recommendations. Food: A lot of options. Some dishes come in small plates, others were great to share. We had a party of 8 so we were able to try multiple dishes. Here are some of the highlights...Mixed tapa plate was awesome. I loved the peppers and shrimp. The grilled octopus was also very tasty. The octopus was grilled perfectly. For the mains, I thought the Paella was just ok. It had a good amount of proteins, but I thought the flavor was just average. I really liked the bucatini pasta. IT was rich and full of flavor. The other stand out was the steak. Jackpot!! I was looking for a restaurant that serves Bone Marrow and I found it thanks to Yelp!! The restaurant may be a little difficult to find because of the lack of lighting in the front. When we walked in, it was busy but since I made reservations, we got a table right away. The atmosphere is clean, casual, friendly, and there is an outdoor seating area in the middle of the restaurant. There is also live music. ::Drinks:: We got the Passion Fruit Margarita, it has tequila, passion fruit, lime, and triple sec. The Madrid Mule has Vodka, lime juice, ginger beer, and it was served in a copper mug. Both drinks were on point! We ordered another round. ::Food:: To start us off, Aaron gave us complimentary warm toasted bread with Pesto Sauce. I liked it a lot. -Roasted Bone Barrow served on a small wooden cutting board. It came with slices of grilled pita bread, a jar filled with chicken liver mousse, and a side of orange marmalade. Who would think orange marmalade would go so well with Bone Marrow?? Did you? I didn't!! It was an amazing combination; it was delicious!! For the chicken liver mousse, I had to pass on that. -Under Chefs Mixed Tapas Plate, we get to pick three dishes. We got Garlic Shrimp, Sautéed Manila Clams, and Duck Fat Fried Potato Chips with Spanish Blue Cheese. The presentation was attractive and each dish was very flavorful. I liked the Manila Clams, it was little spicy. If you like garlic, the shrimps were garlicky. The Duck Fat Fried Potato Chips was crispy but nothing special about it but it was still good. -Next is the Thin Spaghetti and Fried Farm Egg. I never had spaghetti with Guanciale; it tastes like bacon. It also has Calabrian chile and manchego cheese. I enjoyed this dish as well. ::Dessert:: This is the only disappointing moment for me. The House Made Spanish Churros with Nutella was overcooked; it was very hard. I wanted to say something but everyone was so great that I just didn't mention it. Next time I want to try the Fig Empanadas. ::Customer Service:: -Kiersten was exceptional! She was very friendly, professional, and attentive. -We came here to celebrate a new career opportunity and Kiersten surprised us with a complimentary warm Molten Chocolate Cake with sweet Fraiche and toasted nuts. I love this place!!! Decor - it's beautiful. The space feels so airy and open. There is a gorgeous area where musicians play as you dine. It's dimly lit which I typically don't like but it really worked here. Service - helpful, polite, and gracious. The food was exquisite. I didn't think I was hungry but the food was so good that I overate. MARROW BREAD PLATE - luscious marrow with toasted bread. The server brought over more bread since the marrow bones were very sizable. RIB EYE STEAK - cooked to perfection. Medium rare on the inside and charred on the outside. Succulent and perfectly seasoned. Every morsel was absolute heaven. LAMB CHOPS - these are not your thin lamb chops but large cuts of goodness. I only tried a bit of it since it wasn't my dish but it was quite good. CATALAN PAELLA - Very nicely done but not the best I've had. I've had a lot of paella in my life so it's hard to impress me on this dish. ESTRELLA INEDIT 750ml - this is a beer bottled like a wine from the sommelier at a famous Spanish restaurant. A last minute Open Table brought my daughter and I here for an early dinner. 2 1/2 hours later, we happily were among the last to claim their vehicle with the valet. First, the house specialty cocktails were especially strong and refreshingly tasty. I had a Moscow (ne. Madrid) Mule while my daughter sipped a pomegranate and basil martini. Even the wedge salad was exceptional. Daughter ordered garlic soup. Entrees were a rabbit pasta (!) while I are a strip steak that was perfectly cooked and accompanied by roasted hot peppers and crispy Yukon potatoes. Desert was harder to order than it was to eat. Enter Catalan Restaurant, a beautiful, fine-dining establishment that boasts delicious Mediterranean, Spanish, and even Italian dishes. ----The Food---- Catalan Paella ($26)- The meal that put Catalan restaurant on the map. Paella is a Valencian dish composed of chicken, calamari, chorizo, clams, mussels, shrimp, peas, and saffron rice that's meant to be shared. With all these ingredients, you'd expect to be engaged by a ton of flavor, but neither my friends or I were impressed. With each bite, it was as though we were waiting for the flavors to slap us in the mouth until it was all gone. Not a terrible tasting dish by any means, just not as delectable as I'd imagine it to be. Rigatoni & Fulvio's Hot Italian Sausage ($19)- Beautifully plated with vivid colors! A pretty tasty one too--just exclude the olives! This dish contains broccoli rabe, tomatos, machego cheese sausages, and kalamata olives. The ratio of olives to every ingredient on the plate was 2:1, making the dish too bitter to completely enjoy. Towards the end, I was dodging the olives like they were minefields. Kobe Beef Burger ($16)- A handformed Kobe beef patty, supplemented with manchego cheese, pickled veggies, heirloom tomato, smoked bacon jam, chili aioli, and a side of duck fat potato chips. Overall, a juicy burger, but kind of small in size and lacked the flavor I'd expect from the delicious sounding ingredients. The main downfall is the bun--it was a little too chewy for my taste. The duck fat chips were delightful and addicting though. ----- Conclusion: At meals end, my friends and I felt full, but not happily satisfied. While all the plates are presented beautifully, they all seemed to be shackled down by chains...waiting to explode with flavor. Each dish lacked a certain ingredient or something to make it special. My husband and I had a nice dinner at Catalan during a weekend trip to Rancho Mirage. We had an 8:00 reservation, and the place was packed when we arrived, empty by 9. We were probably the youngest diners in the restaurant. The space was pleasant and vibrantly decorated, and there was unobtrusive live music the whole time we were there. We got a nice little table, and service was excellent. We split a pitcher of red sangria with our dinner, and this was refreshing and tasty. The food was good, starting with crusty slices of bread and a flavorful house pesto. We shared a Chef's mixed tapa plate as an appetizer, and this was the highlight of our meal. We chose the goat cheese stuffed piquillo peppers, the garlic shrimp, and the Serrano ham with melon. The peppers were lovely, cooked tender and packed with creamy goat cheese, with some arugula and olive oil on top. The garlic shrimp was plump and snappy, and it came in a tiny hot skillet brimming with dark roasted garlic and a lemon wedge to brighten things up. The ham and melon were top quality, silky pieces of ham wrapped around juicy cantaloupe, sprinkled with queso Cabrales and a grape must saba sauce. I got the Catalan paella for my entree, and this was decent, if not my favorite. It was a huge paella, and I was happy for the leftovers, but I found the rice on the gummy side. It tasted good, though, with tons of chicken, chorizo, clams, mussels, shrimp, and peas, and of course, flavored with saffron. My husband got the grilled veal skirt steak, which was a tender, juicy piece of meat, served over a queso Cabrales and cauliflower puree, with shaved brussels sprouts, bacon tomato jam, and salsa verde. We also got a side of sweet corn and hot green peppers, which went well with everything. I loved everything but the paella, weirdly, and would come back to Catalan for more tapas and sangria. I don't take time to review very often, but I felt the need to tell everyone to go eat at Catalan. My husband and I were in the area for the weekend and hadn't planned on going out for dinner. After a long day of hiking and getting some pool time in we decided to let someone else feed us. After a search we chose Catalan because of the Spanish style food. We didn't dress up and didn't know what to expect. The building from the outside is pretty non-descript, however after opening the the big wooden door, we were heartily greeted by the owner. We were there quite early so we were seated immediately in a booth. The ambience and decor were pleasant, semi-private, and modern. Our server Marisa really added to our experience. My husband and I weren't able to drink alcohol and we asked if they had anything else 'fun' to drink. We were trying to be easy, as in, see what the bartender feels like, but if nothing else, soda would be fine. She brought back a lemon based drink that was perfect. She didn't make us feel like we were making life difficult. For the entire experience she was friendly and seemed to know when to ask us how we were doing and when to leave us alone. Now for the food. Really. I had low expectations because I was not aware of the rave reviews before we stepped foot into Catalan. I thought it was just some other mid-level dining experience. We almost went to Cheesecake Factory for goodness sakes. We ordered the chefs trio appetizer and chose the chorizo skewers, goat cheese stuffed piquillo peppers, and the fish cakes. Holy goodness. The chorizo skewers were a bit intense because of the nature of chorizo. However, they were a great blend of smokiness, heat, and salt. Really fantastic. The peppers were stuffed with herbed goat cheese and come on what isn't good stuffed with goat cheese? The fish cakes were equally excellent. Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, more fish than filling. Excellent start to the meal. For our entrees, I ordered the veal skirt steak with cauliflower purée and my husband had the Kobe beef burger. For both meals, the meat was perfectly cooked to order, perfectly seasoned and pretty much amazing all around. My husbands duck-fat fried chips were excellent and the cauliflower purée was how I like to make it at home - slightly decadent. We were soooo fat and happy after we left. We ate every last morsel and even scraped off the rice stuck to the paella pan. Mouth savoring and full of flavors! They no longer have the rigatoni with sausage so I tried the shrimp spaghetti. I was pleasantly surprised and loved this pasta. It has slight heat to it which makes it even better. The salmon is pretty good. Salmon is salmon so there's not much you can do to it to be "awesome". I'd give this place 5 stars but our male waiter wasn't attentive and didn't check in with us that often so I deduct a star for that. Bus boys are great though. read more

Loved this place! I had the all you can eat tapas for dinner. It was really nice because the server let us eat it in the dining area since my guest was older and has trouble sitting on high tops. Usually, it's in the bar area only. The tapas are all really delicious. Some of my favs were the potatoes bravas with the egg on top and the mushrooms that tasted like escargo. I also loved the empanadas and cauliflower. The bread they give you at the beginning of the meal with the chimichurri was the real star. I could've eaten that all night. I'd say you can pass on the chips cooked in duck fat (too salty) and the tomato bread (the free bread is way better). Just a heads up, everyone at your table must order the all you can eat tapas if you want the deal. The portions are actually really generous, so I would say each one feeds up to at least 3 people. And the food is the best part. The octopus dish is fantastic, the bread and chimichurri... yum. We haven't tried everything, but the salami and cheese board and the arugula salad are really good too. And leave room for the chocolate-filled churros! It's not in the "hopping" part of town, but the parking is easy, there's a full bar and once inside it's really nice. This place is popular! We sat near the darkly lit entrance to Catalan and saw a steady stream of people come in all night - even when it got very late. Like with many other popular restaurants in Palm Springs, it's highly advisable to make reservations in advance. Here's a random set of observations: 1. Atmosphere: Catalan looks like what you might expect - dimly lit, in a romantic sort of way, with a musician playing classic Spanish guitar by the entrance. The restaurant has a bar, an indoor area, and a beautiful outdoor courtyard which seems perfect for a cool evening dinner. Unlike some Mediterranean restaurants, which are quiet and subdued, Catalan is loud and boisterous. 2. Food: This being a Spanish/Catalan restaurant, the menu is loaded with seafood and pork dishes. However, it also has too many American food items like a burger, which unfortunately crowd out Spanish alternatives. We ordered the 3 tapas appetizer to start, in which you choose your 3 tapas. I recommend doing this, or ordering a bunch of small tapas plates. The goat cheese-stuffed peppers were delicious. I don't eat cooked seafood or pork, so I was kinda screwed, but they did a good job of accommodating my ridiculous dietary restrictions. Specifically, they made their Paella main dish for me without seafood and pork products. It was good, but not great. The seafood dishes, I was told, are delicious. 3. Service: Our waitress was attentive, friendly, and well-versed with the menu. 4. Price: A meal for 3 - with drinks, tapas appetizers, and main dishes - came out to about $120 with tax and tip. Well, Catalan has hit it out of the ballpark again. Chef Drew has again proved his genius with a fantastic meal. I reserved four seats for a special evening of the famous Paella and also suckling pig. So Bon, Lil Beer, Luig and myself arrived to Catalan and were immediately seated in a sold out private event. Very cozy and quaint restaurant. High ceilings, open patio in the middle of dining room with retractable glass doors all around it. Babes restaurant was providing samplings of their home made beer, which were delicious. So we ordered some olives in garlic sauce and the worlds best ham, the Ibérico ham. Also, chips fried in duck fat. Delish! We noticed the buffet setup in the patio, but no food yet. So we started mingling and tasting the beers. Then, in one corner of patio, I saw Chef Drew stirring the paella. It was still in the watery stage. Went back after a while, most of the water had soaked or evaporated. Now it was getting its lovely texture and the smell was fantastic. Then, they brought out the mussels and clams. Oh yes. This was going to be good. Then, L'il Beer said, "the pig is out". It didn't kick in what she meant until I looked over, and lo and behold, the suckling pig, in all its glory! Well, ten to fifteen minutes later, we all were invited to the buffet line. Tender asparagus and carrots, crunchy salad and then add the pig and paella. This was a meal fit for royalty. The suckling pig was so tender. Delish. The paella, with mussels, shrimp, chicken, clams and so forth, delish. Then, there was live music. A classical solo guitarist. Everyone was cordial and all had a wonderful time. Our server, Brooke was very helpful. We appreciate her service and friendliness. The entire staff was fabulous. I topped off the evening with a cup of coffee and the rest of my fam had a round of Long Islands. The cherry on top was the chocolate chip pastry. Satisfied with the marvelous meal, fine company, attentive staff and genius chef, we finally made our way to the car and went home. Yes, it cost a pretty penny. The best in the valley, hands down. This is the type of food and restaurants that need to succeed out here. In the land of the Steakhouses and early bird specials, it's a breath of fresh air to have high quality, made from scratch food that's unique and not afraid to take chances. Great, and outside the box plays, on traditional Mediterranean and Spanish dishes. First, the Octopus with "hash" was single handedly one of the best things I've ever eaten in my life. The preparation has changed in recent weeks, but it's still top notch. Suckling pig empanadas? Need I say more? And pairing it with fruit "jam" style dipping sauce is a no brainer and so obvious it makes you laugh that no one else does this. The only thing stopping me from doing the sucking pig feast with about 10 people is that I want to do one on my Big Green Egg and I'm afraid it won't live up to this place! When my girlfriend and I discovered Catalans (Both relocated from L.A.) we new we discovered something special and went right back the next night to try about 8 more things. I have been in the F&B industry for over 20 years, with the last 10 years being in high-end Private Clubs, and I have worked with two of only 67 ACF Master Chefs (The real ones, not the fake ones on Food Network) in the world, and this Chef gets it and I would put him against some of those 67 CMCs. The fact that he expedites and will even run the food to the tables is a testament to him wanting to touch every plate to make sure it's perfect and wants to touch every table to make sure their experience is as amazing as the food. The waiter we had needed some more training, 1) While ordering we asked about one entrée and his answer was simply "I don't know", we suggested he ask the chef to get the answer. 2) interior was very hot (understandably in the summer) and we asked about turning the AC up, he just advised "it's not working right", no trouble shooting like maybe moving to a cooler area, or another round of drinks. 3) would like to have been advised of surcharge for parties of 6+, (this not mentioned while reservation was placed, and is not on website menu) we did not split the bill and this should have been waived. I was very disappointed with Catalan. I ordered online ( for takeout, I then realized that I had a discount from my hotel, I called to ask if I was able apply that discount. Note: I ordered $180 worth or food. At first a very nice guy said yes no problem we will apply discount here when u pick up. Within 5 mins I get a phone call from a really rude female who stated some bullshit policy regarding how I ordered for delivery and that grub hub already takes a percentage (that's non of my business and you don't need to be telling that to me) so they already loose money there.... well I wanted to tell her that they just lost a customer but I said "fine" I did mention I had ordered takeout and not delivery and she stayed silent for a couple seconds and said it didn't matter....anyhow I went in and picked up my food. That is when things went from bad to worse. I absolutely love paella. I've had it many places across the country and I love the variations I have tried, never had I been disappointed.....and I am sad to say this was the WORST paella I have ever had. It was lacking flavor, it was plain, the other entrees I ordered were sadly disappointing as well the steak, shrimp linguini. The only thing we semi enjoyed were the garlic shrimp. Now I know I didn't dine in and that could make a difference. But I just wanna give heads up to any folk who actually think this place has good paella..... get out there and try some others spots too. Also next time you are unable to offer a customer something like a small discount on an expensive order, I would try to offer an alternative ie free bread or appetizer for the inconvenience. Really cute Mediterranean themed Tapas restaurant located in a pretty non-descript area. Came here for dinner and enjoyed most of the dishes. Favs included the paella, creamed cauliflower (we weren't sure if there was actually any cauliflower since it tasted so heavenly!) and crab cake. We went for the first time last night; both the owner and his father were kind and affable (Drew and Mark, I believe), we have high hopes for this beautiful space and really enjoyed the flatbreads and Paella. This is a welcome addition to the fine dining choices (which are limited) in the desert! We returned last night after not having in there for eight months and were thrilled with our experience from start to finish! Gave this place 5 stars because of their service. The food was extremely good too, but their service was on point. Although we made a reservation for 8:15pm, we were seated around 8:45ish or later. Not complaining given that they have limited seating due to the pandemic. Once seated, we ordered our picks. I had the short ribs and my fiancé ordered the salmon. Our side dishes were the potatoes and the corn. As mentioned above, the food was great. Great spot for a date or just dinner with friends/family. We have been going there for 4 years now before Thanksgiving . Always loved the variety and the quality of the food also the ambiance . This year was the first when we were kind of disappointed with the quality. The octopus was covered by red paprika, tasted watery . The sliced ham tasted dry.. probably sliced days earlier. The Brussels sprouts were tasteless , not crispy and looked old. The only good comment : bread with the pesto was great and the lamb was nicely done! read more

Octopus on hummus appetizer was tender with a memorable char. Paella mixta was smoky with perfectly cooked meats/seafood and black spaghetti/rock shrimp and nduja sausage was spicy and hearty. Nice ambiance and fantastic service! Can't wait to return and try more of this special menu. read more

Enjoyable meal in a bright, enthusiastic atmosphere. Highlights were the beet buratta salad and the creme caramel desert. (Also some good deals on the wine menu). The wait to get seated with a rewervation was too long (20 mins) and the place looked too crowded to be following covid restrictions, but those concerns only detracted slightly. The bone marrow was amazing as was the Spanish jamón. It was super crowded as it was just open after Covid but worth the wait. The staff was having a tough time responding and they were definitely understaffed, but they remained pleasant and as responsive as possible. The post-Covid service I'm sure will improve. Will definitely return for the delicious paella and scallops. read more
