Ritvik N.

Came to Cascina Spinasse in Seattle on Sunday evening, the same day I ran the Iron Horse Half Marathon in North Bend, where I placed fifth overall, if anyone cares, dudes. I first arrived around 6:15 PM. The area was packed and finding street parking was surprisingly difficult, so give yourself some extra time if you're driving. I also didn't have a reservation and was quoted about a 45-minute to one-hour wait for a walk-in. The woman at the front was very nice, though, and took my number for the waitlist. I used the time to drive over to Kerry Park for some sightseeing and came back around 7:30 PM. By then, my spot was ready and I was seated at the bar. I hadn't really eaten a proper lunch after the race, so at this point I was basically combining lunch and dinner. On the recommendation of the woman serving me at the bar, I ordered two half portions of pasta: Tajarin con burro e salvia -- $20 Fine hand-cut egg yolk pasta with butter and sage. Cavatelli al ragù di costolette -- $24 Cavatelli with short rib ragù and marinated cherry tomatoes. While I was waiting, they also brought out a complimentary amuse-bouche with toast, fig, and a dark reduction. It was a nice little start to the meal. The tajarin with butter and sage came first. I was starving and finished it pretty quickly. They also served bread and long, thin, crunchy breadsticks that I believe were grissini. The pasta was good, although it didn't completely blow me away. I'd probably give that dish around a 3.5/5. Then came the cavatelli with short rib ragù. Oh my gosh, guys. This might genuinely be one of the greatest pasta dishes I've ever tasted. Somehow, it was even better than the spaghetti Bolognese I'd had at another Italian restaurant the night before. The short rib ragù was remarkable -- incredibly rich and flavorful -- and the cavatelli had this wonderful soft, chewy texture that worked perfectly with the beef ragù and tomatoes. Everything just came together. This was easily the highlight of the meal and one of my favorite Italian dishes I've had anywhere. The bar seating also ended up being pretty social. I talked with a guy next to me who had recently finished a triathlon, and chatted with another woman whose birthday was the following day. It made eating solo considerably more enjoyable. By the end, I was completely full. Considering those two half portions essentially became my post-race lunch and dinner combined, I thought it was well worth it. I'm giving Spinasse 5/5 largely because that cavatelli with short rib ragù was absolutely remarkable. I'd come back without question the next time I'm in Seattle -- and I'd probably order that exact dish again. One word of warning: I'd strongly recommend making a reservation, especially on a weekend. If you're dining solo, walking in and waiting for a bar seat can work, but I'd still be prepared to wait. 5/5 stars Last visited: August 30, 2026

Well hello Spinasse! Ok I'm going to be as real as possible guys, we're not going to fall for the hype right? Guys my taste buds just ran rampant, and this was a birthday dinner so expectations were high but OMG everything absolutely everything was delicious. So the little restaurant is just that, it's little it's quaint, the service is fantastic discreet but knowledgeable (because I certainly wasn't lol) We had a few dishes and while some aren't on the menu anymore, they do signal how well this restaurant works. We had an artichoke antipasti that I could not stop eating absolutly delicious, it had hints of mint on mascarpone and toasted hazelnuts. We also had a beautiful roasted cauliflower, and poached scallops that blew my husbands mind, something about that dish was spectacular. We also had the Tajarin & Shrimp risotto absolute heaven I honestly couldn't want more, but since it was my birthday yes I ordered the lemon tiramisu and YESSSSSS it was on point!!

Absolutely incredible experience at Spinasse. One of the rare occasions where I truly have no critique to give! I'll start off by saying that I RARELY give out a 5 star review. To me, a full 5 stars, means the restaurant goes above and beyond. Food, Ambience, and Service all have to be on point, and Spinasse has it all. You walk in and it's warm and welcoming. It's a fantastic mix of classic Italian decor mixed with a modern casual restaurant with large viewing windows of the kitchen. You're then met by extremely friendly and helpful staff. They've got answers to your questions, they're great at conversation, but not too in your business. Fantastic service. As I said, I have no critique to give, so I'll just try and describe what I tasted. We started with the ANTIPASTO MISTO DELLA CASA which is essentially small portions of all of their antipasta. This can rotate seasonally. Every single dish in this was amazing. We think the Capricciosa salad was our favorite out of the bunch, but everything was fantastic. We then ordered two half orders of Pasta, the TAJARIN CON BURRO E SALVIA and the TAJARIN AL RAGU. The TAJARIN CON BURRO E SALVIA is essentially pasta in an emulsified butter and sage sauce. I'm not gonna lie, I had low expectations for such a simple dish, but WOW. Sage can be VERY overpowering, but not in this dish. You taste the sage, but as a compliment not as an overpowering flavor. The ragu was also fantastic. The Tajrain by the way - perfectly al dente. It's such a thin pasta that it could easily be overcooked, but they nailed it. Then the Pan-roasted king salmon with sauteed chanterelles, crimini brodo and thyme oil... omg... Perfect pairing. Crispy skin, tender king salmon, and those mushrooms... one of my favorite dishes I've had ever. Not too salty, mushrooms were perfectly - al dente? not too chewy, but not too mushy. Perfect. Dessert was also seasonal - a sort of cake with cream, wafers, chocolate and hazelnuts on top. Phenomenal. If you're visiting SEA, or live here, please do yourself a favor and add this to your list!

Maiale brasato al latte

Ordered: - Crespelle - Tajarin con burro e salvia - butter and sage pasta. yummy. - Cavatelli al ragu di costolette - Cavatelli shape works really well with the ragu sauce. - Risotto di mais - Corn and tomato combo was good. Alternating it with the Butter/sage pasta was really nice. It was a tad too sweet near the end when we ran out of butter sage to alternate with. I don't think I would be able to eat this on its own, would get flavor fatigue. - Maiale brasato al latte - Zucchini estive con salsa agliata - Pomodori - hierloom tomatoes were huge and so yummy. Would recommend getting a reservation. Parking garage next door that wasn't too expensive.

I will forever dream of this place for the rest of my life. Make the reservation. A girlfriend and I tried to book 2 weeks out and it was fully booked. A couple hours later, I checked again and there was 1 cancellation. I am SO glad we had the opportunity to try this place. It's small, so would be difficult for large parties. Our server was wonderful and very knowledgeable. The food was INCREDIBLE. Like close your eyes, and feel all the emotions while you're eating incredible. There was not a single dish I didn't enjoy. I would love to return and try the option where you get to try every antipasto, primo, and second on the menu for $122/person. Can't wait to come back to Seattle just for this!

Ambiance

Legendary reviews had me coming in with pretty high expectations. The ambiance is lovely. Low lighting, walls lined with wine bottles, and an intimate atmosphere that feels cozy without being cramped. Even though the restaurant wasn't particularly busy during our visit, our server was extremely quiet and difficult to hear, which made communication a bit challenging. One nice touch was the complimentary bread service, which came with a generous amount of butter. We started with the artichokes from the seasonal menu. I was expecting them to be served warm or roasted, but they arrived cold, which was admittedly a misunderstanding on my part. The accompanying sauce was excellent though and definitely saved the dish for me. We also ordered the tajarin al ragù, one of the restaurant's signature dishes. Unfortunately, this was where my expectations and experience diverged. The pasta felt under-seasoned to me, and the noodles seemed overcooked. Rather than the silky texture I was hoping for, I found myself eating what felt like clumps of dough. It was a dish I really wanted to love given its reputation, but it just didn't click for me. We weren't looking for a heavy dinner, so we only ordered a couple of items. It's entirely possible we came on an off night or simply didn't choose the restaurant's strongest dishes. I'd be open to giving Cascina Spinasse another try in the future, but this visit left me feeling a bit underwhelmed compared to the hype.

Very very good restaurant for pasta and Italian food lovers. Unique appetizers all were great. Pasta was good and fresh, but only 2 options, which we found very basic. Main meals were also not very unique but excellent. Service was amazing and not much wait for your food. We had the testing menu where you try everything on the menus except 2 dishes which is weird why did they exclude these in particular. I might go back if reservation was not so ridiculous long time..

This restaurant has high praise and definitely deserves it. We snagged a late night reservation on our first night in the Seattle area and we are still raving about our experience. Highly recommend any of the pasta dishes by my personal favorite was the Tajarin al Ragu

Extremely disappointed, especially given how expensive it is. The decor felt dingy and underwhelming, and the restaurant was extremely cold and uncomfortable. Unfortunately, the food was just as disappointing. Everything arrived cold, and the dishes tasted very ordinary. Some were mushy and overly salty, and I wasn't able to finish anything. For the price, I expected a much better experience. Definitely not worth the money in my opinion.

Went there once and we settled for bar seating. Ambiance was chill, service was fast. Food was good too. Mostly liked the pasta. Was able to find street parking easily that evening.

We had our final dinner in Seattle at Spinasse and twas a wonderful time. First off, Spinasse gives Capitol Hill from the moment you enter. It's minimally furnished with just the right amount of ambient lighting. Secondly, it's Italian, but Piedmontese Italian if that means anything to you. We started with crespelle ($29) which is an Italian crepe. The version we ordered was stuffed with prosciutto and parmigiana fonduta with arugula salad. The crepe was light and airy and paired perfectly with the salty prosciutto and parm. Perfect starter. Honestly, all the pastas we ordered were absolute fire. Of the three, I liked the Tajarin Al ragù ($20/$34) the most. It's a fine hand-cut egg yolk pasta with pork and beef ragù. The pasta is so finely cut; it's delicate. What I liked best was the way the ragù sauce enveloped itself into the folds of the pasta. Each bite was cohesive and really intentional. The risotto was also quite good as well - that night, it was the risotto ai gamberi ($21/$35) which highlight spot prawns. The spot prawns were sweet and the Calabrian chili was a really nice complement to the sweet and creamy. Delish. I'm sure the risotto is great in any season. I must say - the best thing about the menu is the fact that you can order a smaller portion of any of the pasta dishes as to not have to fully commit to one. This is a superb way to eat. Live actually. Include Spinasse on any itinerary if you can.

O. M. G! Hands down, the best meal we had during our Seattle trip. Hallelujah! The insalata was so good eaten on top of their bread. The Cipollini Ripieni NEEDS to be a year-round dish! I have been daydreaming about those savory little onion-wrapped meatballs since we left Seattle. Mouthwateringly delicious! The pasta was so fresh--both were delicious--but I think I preferred the simple, yet masterful, butter and sage dish best. If I could give them 10 stars, I would.

Very beautiful and intimate restaurant! The service is amazing - we had questions about the wine menu and they had brought out samples of wines they recommended to try! All the dishes we had were really delicious. Their butter noodles (tajarin con burro e salvia) are amazing texture wise! This is what our server had recommended to us. Highly recommend getting the desserts as well! The semifriedo and the tart were both delicious! Will definitely be back to try everything else!

Great wine!

Thanks! Also, is the service quick and polite? I'd like to know two more things, What's the rush hour and is the food "top-notch"?

Definitely recommend a reservation but if you walk in at open there are usually some bar seats available

Do they do walk-ins with no reservation?

Definitely need a reservation - they book out very far in advance

Does this place have cheese wheel pasta?

Not that I'm aware of. I'm assuming you mean the pasta where you put it in the big wheel of cheese so it gets cheesy. This place is a little more traditional/artisan than that, but their sage and butter pasta is amazing!! They make all their pasta…

Do you have air conditioning?

Are the noodles handspun?

Hi D’andra, Pasta at Spinasse is made in house and cut by hand. Thanks for reaching out!

Do you have delivery?

Hi Katie, Thanks for reaching out. No delivery, but we do have Tock for pickup: exploretock.com/spinasse-artusi.

Making a reservation is nearly impossible, even when trying two weeks out. Do you offer walk in? What's the best way to snag a table?

I believe the do welcome walk-ins, but they are seated outside. It's covered and there are heaters. Honestly, the food is not that great to warrant sitting outside. Wait for the reservation - they open them 2 weeks in advance and you need to call…

Do you offer any gluten free options?

Hello! Our pasta is not gluten free, but we do have antipasti, main and side dishes that are gluten free.

Is there bar seating? I'm thinking about dinner as a part of 1 and am content with bar seating if available.

There's Artusi with plenty of bar seating. It's their same / adjacent/ sister restaurant in that location and they share the kitchen. The bar is also prettier too. Might have a slightly different menu but pasta are just as tasty as sitting on the…

Do your meatballs contain fennel or anise seasonings?

Hi Jessica, Yes, our meatballs are seasoned with fennel. Thx! Spinasse and Artusi

How to cancel a reservation? They never picked up their phone or called back when I left voicemail.

Sorry they are usually very responsive... if you leave a message that's all you can do !

Can you walk in or reservation only?

They take walk-ins at the dining counter and at a couple of tables, but seating is mostly reserved.

My family will be visiting Seattle and I've been wanting to try their tajarin for ages! I've read young kids wouldn't do well in this restaurant as it's more romantic/upscale. Is there truly no option of ordering the dish to go? (Silly ?, sorry!)

Good news! They now have takeout. Their tajarin you must make at home to preserve the quality, but it's super easy and fast.

Anyone know the corkage fee pls?

I believe it's $25. I went there last summer and that's what it was.

What other dish would you recommend besides the butter & sage pasta?

Potato duck

How far in advance should I make a reservation?

I booked about 4-weeks in advance but space was limited for prime time slots (7:30 PM). Other much later time slots were available.

Thinking of bringing my 1-year-old here for dinner. Do you think this place accommodates?

Technically they allow children, but I'd get a sitter. The place is quaint and has a romantic vibe. I've seen kids before but rarely and they were older and super well behaved. You know your kiddo best but I always get a sitter when we go. Good news…

Didn't see tajarin on the menu, showed the picture on yelp to the waiter too and still got a no, so it's no longer served?

It's a signature dish at the restaurant. I sincerely doubt it was removed from the menu.

It definitely gives off more romantic/date night vibes, but it was also fun to experience with some ladies from my team. Perfect for a girl's night! Obsessed with the string lights, the fountain, and the overall atmosphere. You somehow don't even realize you're in the middle of Seattle when you're here. The menu has so many options which made it so hard to choose, but I ended up going with the Fettucini ai Fungh - fresh fettuccini pasta with wild mushrooms served in a light cream sauce topped with truffle oil, and I also added chicken. I almost cleared my plate which is hard for me as my eyes are always bigger than my stomach, but I made it happen! We had a reservation for 7:00 PM and specifically requested outdoor seating. We were only trying to be accommodating and make things easier for the staff. We were initially seated inside, but they eventually moved us outside because that was what they had available and what our reservation was originally for. At that point, the staff seemed noticeably upset with us for having sat inside. Our host then argued with us and said that we had requested to sit inside, which simply wasn't what happened. We never demanded or even preferred indoor seating. We preferred to sit outside from the beginning and only offered to sit inside if it helped because they seemed busy. It was frustrating to have our attempt to be flexible turned into an issue and then be argued with about what we had said.

This last week while traveling for business to Seattle I had the pleasure of dining at Mezzanote. Their name of course implies it is an Italian restaurant but what you don't realize until you have sat and initiated your meal is that you, regardless of choice are embarking on a beautiful tribute to Northern Italian cuisine. At first arrival, the immediate impression is one of modest presentation but friendly and very inviting ambience. The staff, including our Server Marcus was attentive and had impeccable timing to read the table and flow of those joined in the meal. Check back was perfect and his service support was equally in tune with the other tables on the patio where we sat. Now this is what you have been waiting for... The food and I mean, we had almost one of every item on the menu and every dish was simply delicious. Tastes that were balanced and never overwhelming, but truly inspired dishes that your taste buds understand that the food was made with care and meant to satisfy even the toughest of pallets. Let's start with the house focaccia and ask for the disco sauce to dip your bread. It was a tummy satisfying start but then they dropped the focaccia regala and with the cheeses melted in a medley that left me thankful I was as they say "hungry as a hostage" because the meal had just begun. The next appetizer brought out was the Carote... This medley of carrots smoked with a Chile Honey Glaze left this BBQ born and raised Mexican wondering why ?? And then I had my first forkful and any doubt that I had about the chef creating something sacrilegious by smoking carrots left me, as the flavors were amazing. For a moment I forgot I was eating my vegetables.. where was this when I was a younger man. On to the main courses and the Reginette was first up. This Bolognese was a hearty blend of flavor and subtlety as it wasn't overly anything except satisfying. The Braciola Dia Miaale was a durock pork chop with a rhubar mostarda and salsify puree with asparagus that could not have been better. You didn't have to be a pork chop fan to enjoy this at all. Every dish that arrived was better than the one before. The Bucatini C'Anciuova, Prawns with Calabrian Chile, anchovies, tomatoe and orange zest was a delight and I don't normally eat anything overly spicy. This was a balance of heat with a twist of tang that the orange zest delivered flawlessly. Allow me to share that it is imperative you save room for dessert. Their tiramisu taste as if there is some Italian grandmother locked away in a pastry room kicking these out. They have other desserts to be sure, but this is the star of the show in my opinion. For those of you that are wine enthusiast, they did have a wine list that was impressive. All in all, for those that follow me, you know that it is a rarity for me to give any place I visit five stars from the first visit. Consistency is premium in my book. But as I mentioned to one of our fellow diners. This food is amazing, and the reality is each of these dishes could be served in a five-star venue layered with opulence and still the food would outshine the location. The only drawback was there was no Coke Zero... Damn it ...Turns out though that can be a pretty tough find in the city of Seattle in all the restaurants. For one that does not participate in alcohol or wine, my taste buds were not underserved and I survived without my Zero. This place is a go-to for any Italian yearning for authentic Italian food made with love. That's the only way I can describe just how good the food is. This isn't something that is prepared in volume for the masses. The chef and that team are simply serving with their hearts and it resonates with every bite. I'll be back, again and again. Oh and should you find yourself needing to go to the restroom. Ask for the Disco restroom.. that alone is worth the drive... Lol until next time Mezzanote! Thank you for a wonderful meal.

Drinks are also really good and surprisingly cheap for the area, especially SLU. Service has been great every time I've been too. Definitely one of my go to spots for happy hour and will be back!
