Casa Maya was our lunch choice while visiting St. Augustine Mother's Day weekend. The wait was short and they had a lovely outdoor patio with a bar. Plus live music which always helps set a relaxing atmosphere. Our server greeted us right away. We were all starving so it didn't take long to make a food choice. I ordered the chicken quesadillas, my friend's Mom ordered the shredded pork tacos and my friend ordered shrimp fajitas. There's no complimentary chips and salsa so we ordered some for $4. The chips were pretty good and the salsa was fresh. Our food was served about 20 minutes after we ordered. My chicken quesadilla with avocado was tasty although not served with salsa. I requested a side of salsa and was not charged which I appreciated! I also had one of the shredded pork tacos which was packed with lots of yummy flavors including avocado. I really enjoyed the tacos and will probably order them the next time I stop by. If you're looking for a Mexican restaurant off the beaten path this is your spot! read more

I would give their rules and bartender a zero! We were a large group of 8 - they would not seat us in the empty restaurant unless we were eating! Archaic rule. We were drinking and drinking a lot! Ultimately the second bartender told us to take a table and the other bartender starting complaining to us. We did order a few appetizers just to appease them. We had two rounds and a few appetizer - food total $40 Alcohol $300. Why a restaurant would turn away a party of 8 is beyond me. Ordered the paella for two was served a bowl of what I thought was a serving of soggy rice mostly chopped chicken and some seafood atop of it. $48.99 MP not worth it. Margarita was priced right. But charged for two only ordered one. Location and music were nice, service was little attentive but food totally subpar for the price and caliber. This was a disappointing experience. We had a party of 2 people but we were charged a service fee that no one told us about. Our waiter wad barely present and we had to stand up to find him at some point. Food was overprice and mediocre. Salsa taste like it was bought from the grocery store. They charge $7 for a bowl of lukewarm broth with tomato, onion and some cheese. I could tell it was not microwave enough and the cheese barely melted it was weird. At least put some effort in it. I had to ask them to reheat it but the combination of flavorless broth with raw onion and tomato were not it. We had 2 drinks, salsa and chip and a soup. With the service fee it was $60+ which cost almost the same as the full dinner i had at an Asian restaurant yesterday with 2 entrees and 1 appetizer smh The only good thing is the live music but there were no seats for it. 2020: I visited this restaurant not remembering I had been here once before. When I came to leave a 3 star review, I saw I had left one already! I tried different menu items and my score does not change. We visitied for dinner on Aug 5 and sat in the back in a nice outdoor area with lights every and a good ambiance. The drinks were, by far, the worst drinks we've ever ordered at a restaurant. In our group, we tried 5 different drinks and none of them were good. The vodka lime mint drink tasted like flat soda water, the margarita tasted like watered down sour mix, the jalapeno margarita tasted like jalapeño soda water, and the michelada (off menu) had way too much tomato sauce. For food this time around, I ordered the mahi mahi, and while it came with a delicious mango sauce on top, the actual fish itself was overcooked and as a result very dry. Luckily, it was doused in the mango sauce, but I would have liked to enjoy some fresh fish. My boyfriend ordered a pork entree and while he thought it was delicious, it was a pretty small entree. It came with pork, a tiny pile of rice, 2 plantains, and 2 corn tortillas. He would have actually preferred some veggies over the corn tortillas. 2015: The service was excellent. Waiter was very friendly and attentive. Gave it three stars because the lime sauce for the Ceviche tasted more like water than it did lime. Salsa with the chips and salsa was good. For my entree I got the shrimp tacos which were good with this chipotle mayo sauce. My boyfriend got steak taco but it did not come with much. Just the steak on the flour tortilla with a little sliver of avocado on top and pico de gallo on the side. All in all we will probably check out all the other restaurants on St George before going back. read more

What a great hidden gem. We stopped in because we heard the live music that sounded really great on Sunday afternoon. It was a guitarist playing Santana style music he was excellent. Friday night here at Casa Maya and went to go sit at the balcony where the Salsa music is so lively despite the cold winter winds. For the appetizer, we ordered the Chips and Guacamole Salsa which was very crunchy. We ordered the Paella for 2, and asked our server Fabian to remove Chorizo (Sausage) and Chicken as our guest is vegetarian. It was bigger than we thought, full of tasty catch-of-the-day fish, crab legs, scallops, shrimp and topped off with rice. The Na-Kaab Tempeh, which is made of Soy, with sides of black beans and veggies was kind of a so-so and barely had any taste. This was the only miss in our order though. 5 Stars for Fabian's customer service and the ambiance of the restaurant as we definitely look forward coming back here to Casa Maya soon! read more

My husband and I just left Casa Maya moments ago. The food was really delicious; we ordered the Carne Asada and the Fajitas, and the drinks weren't too bad. The only problem was with the operating hours of the restaurant. We arrived on a Wednesday at 8:50, when their advertised hours of operation says they close at 10. After we placed our order, we noticed the wait staff checking on tables around us asking if they were ordering anything else and that they'd be closing the kitchen. Then our waiter asked us if we wanted to place another drink order because the bar was doing last call. This was at 9:10. We decided not to order anything else because our drinks were still practically full. Afterwards it was like they couldn't wait for us to leave. It's like they actually close at 9 instead of 10 like they suggest both online AND on the sign on the front of the restaurant. It left a really negative impression on us at the end of it all. We couldn't even finish our food, we felt like we were being rushed out the entire time. It's too bad, because like I said it was delicious. But will we be back? Probably not. read more

It took a while for a server to even acknowledge us. As a past server myself, first customers then clearing and cleaning and surely just acknowledging presence. Nonetheless, the server that showed up apologized and took our order. My dad ordered a hurricane and I ordered margarita. We also ordered chips and salsa and half a dozen oysters. The food arrived fairly quick. About 5-10 minutes. The drinks however, did not show up. We almost finished the appetizers before the drinks came. The oysters were great and the chips and salsa ok. Their chips are basically large corn crispy rounds. It only came with 4 of them and mediocre salsa. Overall I'd give this place 2.5 stars but you can't give a half. I did like the band that was playing outside, they were great and we got to hear them at the place we actually had dinner at.
