One of the first things we learned after moving to New London is that there is almost no good pizza in the area, and NO NY-style pizza (although a few places claim to have it), which back home is simply called pizza, so I was a bit skeptical about this place. We waited for about 30 mins for a table (7 PM on a Friday night), and were told several times by other people waiting that the food was worth the wait, so we waited..it was a nice night and the outdoor waiting area was nice enough. The decor is nice enough (think family owned red Italian), and very clean. The service is the only reason this place did not get 5 stars from me. It wasn't TERRIBLE, but at one point I was unable to get my server's attention while she was at our table! My girlfriend ordered a salad, I ordered an appetizer, and a pizza, so why not bring my app with the salad, instead of with the pie? Anyway, on to the food... Field green salad - Fresh salad with a nice dressing, not too overpowering. Spinach Stuffys (a stuffy, to all my non-Rhode Island friends, is a stuffed Quahog clam) were outstanding! Mostly spinach and clam, with SOME bread stuffing, garlic, cheese. Deeelicious! 2 stuffed quahogs fer 6 bucks! The pizza looked like a true NY style pie, but Ive been deceived before. If you know good NY pizza, then you know how it should feel in your hand when you pick it up..I immediately folded the crust and supported the front of the slice with my left forefinger. This was truly the best tasting pie Ive had in years! Real cheese and fresh toppings (we had sausage and peppers). Heck, my girlfriend (who used to live in NYC) even ate her crust tonight fer probably the first time since we met 7 years ago! I can't speak to their pasta dishes (although I hope to soon), but if you are looking for good, NY style pizza in the SE CT/RI area, you MUST try Casa Della Luce, it's the ONLY pizza place in a town filled with pizza places! read more

Best pizza in town. But they don't forget the other good stuff on the menu. This is a really fine Italian restaurant masquerading as a strip mall quick-dining spot. Do not be fooled! The food here is great. The service can be a little uneven because they can get slammed on weekends, particularly in the summer, but it is worth the wait, and they stick a few tables out on the sidewalk. Casa has arguably the best pizza in Westerly, which is saying something considering the number of Italians per-capita who reside there. If you are in the mood for a casual, well-executed meal, you can count on Casa to deliver. The arancini is also awesome. They can drop the ball sometimes on the appetizers and entrees (often bland or downright yucky), so I will always recommend the pizza, which comes out perfect every time. OK, tough to give 4 stars, but tough not to, because Westerly is like the black hole of cuisine and the fact that this place tries to get it right puts them up near the top. The pasta is fresh, the sauces decent (if undersalted) and the pizza looks fantastic. Good wait staff and good service on special requests. Casa della Luce is an unassuming little Italian restaurant, which appears to be a pizza joint, uptown as they say, in Westerly RI. However, this little gem on Franklin Street in the McQuade plaza harbors some of the tastiest pasta dishes anywhere. Their cooks consistently deliver one of the best shrimp scampi bowls you'll get, replete with plenty of oil, garlic, parsley and lemon. I came back within a week of that satisfying dish to see if I had reason to believe their veal marsala would be equally as good. As expected, they delivered. I returned a plate clean enough to mistake as a new one, after sopping up all that incredible flavor with their garlic knot which always accompanies each dish. This evening, a beautiful young Amber - who owns the world when she smiles - aided the culinary experience in delivering the dishes to my table. A big shout out to Nick Barbier, the charming manager who never stopped working even for a second, but simultaneously checked on my and everyone else's complete satisfaction with the experience. My experience at Casa Della Luce was relatively positive. We ordered a bunch of menu items and split them among our table. The arancini or riceballs, were disappointing. We ordered two for the table, one was prepared fine but nothing special and the other was frozen in the middle. The poached pear salad was delicious and the chowder which is "award-winning" was truly outstanding. It was special and the four mini clam fritters were a great touch. We had pasta bolognese which was just ok and under-salted but well-prepared and al dente. The truffled steak was ok as well, probably wouldn't order it again though. The pasta served with the steak was nicely prepared, well sauced but once again needed salt. The place is reasonably priced and there is friendly service. The decor is basic and not very fancy, but it is welcoming. It is worth a try and the clam chowder is a must try. read more

I have eaten this dish 100 times all across United States but never like this. This is a new high watermark for seafood pasta. I am sad that I do not live closer. This this was unbelievably delicious and I highly recommend it as long as you're not allergic to seafood. Tried eating here while on vacation last month. We were told there was a wait which was fine. It looked like there was at least one empty table, but there were people ahead of us so we didn't think much of it. About 20-25 minutes went by and we noticed that a party of around six in front of us had split up. Some were sitting at an empty table, others were still standing at the entrance. Long story short, who ever was managing the front end that night was not seating customers as tables became available. Apparently thinking it is better to have people stand around and look at empty tables rather than seat them and have slightly slower service. I can appreciate that the wait staff may have been somewhat overwhelmed by having so much of the dining room turn over so quickly, but customers do not want to be forced to stand in the entryway while they look at multiple open tables and booths. Let us at least sit and maybe get a cold drink. After about 20 minutes we noticed a party of 5-6 had split up. Three of them were sitting, unattended, at an empty table while the others remained standing in the entryway. I guess the three saw how absurd this situation was and took action. It took at least 5 more minutes for the party to be "officially" sat together. On top of this, there customers with smaller parties (I mean two adults as we were only two adults and a small child) who were allowed to sit and be served at some high two-tops that came in at least ten minutes after we did. There was also another couple with a young child that arrived after we did and we're seated while we waited. (This may have been due to confusion and upon seeing a couple with a child inside while we were outside they were confused with us.) I only then asked about the two or three empty tables in the dining room and whether or not we could sit at one of them. By now we were waiting close to 40 minutes. I was told that too many people had finished at the same time and they needed to stagger seating. I told the woman that this was a rude way to treat custard we left. We will be back to Westerly next year, but not here. They don't seem to care what the customer experience is like. read more

Prior to visiting this restaurant I heard plenty of good things about it, and it definitely met expectations. The menu is filled with a variety of pizza and pasta dishes along with a good range of salads and appetizers. I really recommend the spaghetti and meatballs - the marinara sauce they use for the pasta is fantastic and the meatballs are flavorful but not overly heavy. I also tried the shrimp scampi here and really enjoyed that as well. So if you're looking for great Italian cuisine in a casual setting then this is the right place to go. read more

AMAZING FOOD! However, the Past 2 times we went here the waitresses were not polite. Tonight our waitress spent the last 1/2 of our meal on the phone talking to her son on speaker phone. She also tried to rush us out because it was close to closing, by trying to box up our pizza before we were done eating. We were in the area, and found this place on yelp. After eating there, I would actually go out of my way to eat here. Without fail, everything we ordered was amazing. We had a couple of appetizers (calamari and arancini). Both were awesome. The Caesar salad had homemade dressing. The pasta dishes were all homemade pasta. Got take from here usually go to Vittorias for pizza but they have been over doing it with the cheese. The cheese pizza and CBR with broccoli was very good for RI pizza. We heard about this place from many people as a good place for takeout pizza. We ordered the Neapolitan and the artichoke spinach pie. They were both so disappointing! The cheese was overly heavy so much so you couldn't see the toppings. Crust was so thick and bready, definitely not even close to NY style. Delicious! I had the gnocchi and it was very filling. Everything we got on the meal was well worth the price. The staff was very friendly. The only thing that could improve is the decor and ambiance. The restaurant looked casual and laid back and did not really match the menu. The wine list could also improve. It had cheaper wines you find at a grocery store and nothing very special. In town for 1 night and needed a good spot to eat. Saw "New York Style Pizza," and being from New York, decided to give it a go. Once seated the owner brought over sliced plain and white pizza with eggplant & olives for the table to "snack on." Best New York Style Pizza outside of New York! We had 5 adults in our party and decided to each order a different entree and share: Filet Mignon, Chicken Marsala, Penne Vodka, Chicken Parmigiana and Gnocchi Bolognese. Everything was delicious! We found this place through their ads in publications available at the tourist info center. Ads looked very classy, we were worried about being underdressed as we were camping. I emailed ahead of our trip and they gladly told me they were a family, casual type restuarant. All staff was very friendly and made us feel welcome. The tasty "pizza snack" we were offered before we ordered was nice. I never would have tried taco pizza, but the snack changed my mind. The fried risotta balls (forgot the name) was a fantastic appetizer. My daughter love the pizza slices she ordered and the calzone I had was great. There sauce is delicious.
