It took us a few minutes to find the door, but when we made it inside, it was a delight. The place was big, open, lots of natural light coming in from the huge windows all around. You can tell this space used to be a factory or some otehr industrial type building. I loved the open kitchen, the awnings gave it this welcoming, cozy feel and I started to get excited about the meal. The host greeted us and got us seated. On our way over, we passed a tree made of pizza boxes! I thought that was great, I love it when restaurants get into the holiday spirit. The dining area was decorated well but not overdone, and I spotted a Nutcracker from the Westerly Nutcracker trail! I love community events like that. Our server was friendly, and soon our order was placed. Not much time had passed before the garlic knots came out. Strongly tasting of fresh garlic (as they should) they were delicious. The dough was chewy and flavorful, the garlic adding even more to the mix. I got even more excited for the pizza. When it arrived, it was smoldering hot, fresh out of the oven. But I could not wait, so I used a fork and knife for my first bite. The dough was crisp, the sauce zesty and a whole lot of cheese. So cheesy that some pepperoni fell off my friend's slice as he put it on his plate. If you like a cheesy pizza, this is the spot for you. The first slice went down easy, and in some ways I was reminded of the texture of a classic NY pie but thinner. I eagerly reached for the second slice, a cheese one. That's where things fell apart for me. The difference in these two slices was immense. I'm not sure what happened in the oven, but the pizza was not cooked evenly. The cheese sliced flopped and lost all the great texture I enjoyed in the first slice. Unfortunately, it seems the rest of the pie didn't reflect my first slice experience. I liked it enough that if someone invited me back, I would go but I don't think this will be on my places to recommend in Westerly yet. Someone stacked pizza boxes into a Christmas tree. Six feet tall, wrapped in ribbon, right there in the dining room. Staff work, not decorator work. They've been here long enough to know the kids' names. Everything about the room says they thought this through. Brick and white wainscoting, pendant lights, bentwood chairs, open kitchen where you watch the whole operation. Families pack the place. Kids color, parents talk, teenagers perform indifference while inhaling slices. Staff moves with the rhythm of people who've been here since they were kids themselves. I wanted the pizza to match the room. It didn't. Fourteen inch thin crust that can't decide if it's New York or Neapolitan. Doesn't nail either. The middle collapses. You need to fold it backward or use a fork to eat it. Neither option appeals to me. Sauce, cheese, crust. Everything blurs together. Can't tell you what any single component contributed because nothing stood out enough to claim it. Pepperoni brought grease. Covered my hands and the plate. Some flavor there, not enough to make the cleanup worth it. What I wanted: crust with structure. Pizza that holds its shape. Components that argue with each other before they work it out. What they're serving: something else. But here's what I keep coming back to. Families who've been showing up since 1998. People driving from out of state for a booth. Kids measuring childhood in pizza box trees. Twenty six years on the same corner doing the same thing the same way. They're not confused. They know what they're getting. The product isn't the pizza. Pizza Palace - Westerly, RI The salads here are still the best around--fresh, crisp, and consistently delicious. Unfortunately, the pizzas don't live up to the same standard. I'm no David Portnoy, but these pies are pretty bland and really lacking in flavor. On the plus side, there are plenty of options with both red and white pizzas, so variety isn't the issue. The real disappointment was the service, which was downright terrible and took away from the overall experience. If you're craving a great salad, Pizza Palace is worth a stop. We've walked by several times always making a note to try it out. Today we did and we loved it! Walking in, you immediately see the guys in the kitchen stretching dough and making the most delicious pizza pies! There were six of us and there were plenty of places to sit. In fact, on this Sunday there were several large parties. Plenty of room. We had the buffalo chicken pizza which was amazing, a plain cheese , and a pepperoni. Loved the pizza! While we ate, we watched several enormous salads pass by. The garlic knots at the next table looked delicious too. The best part of our day was the efficient and friendly waitress we had. She got us set up with waters and coloring for the kids and checked up on us often. We were all so happy with this restaurant, we'll be back soon! read more

First time here. I LOVE the aesthetic of the place! Staff was very friendly. Chairs are comfy, and sturdy. The tables are also decently sized, which was nice. There is on street parking, but also a parking garage near by, plus it's close to some other businesses and things to do/ scenic walk spaces. Great tasting thin crust pizza , simple and great flavor for take out. First time trying and won't be the last

We were out for a Sunday drive and after walking around stopped in for lunch. The restaurant smelled amazing when we walked in. The staff was friendly. We ordered the Mozzarella pizza. When it came out the crust is thin with just the right amount of sauce and cheese. Seems like Sunday for lunch is the right time to come in. It wasn't very busy. The nice thing is you can watch them make your food. The kitchen isn't hidden like in most places. read more

I hate to write a bad review but I wonder if Pizza Place has changed management or chefs by any chance? We have always been more than satisfied with their food offerings and never had any complaints whatsoever, however today we ordered a Quattro Formagio pizza and a Potato Pizza and both were not good. The Quattro (which we always ordered in the past because it was so very good) had no garlic or olive oil on it -therefore it had no flavor! The potato pizza also had no flavor and the potatoes were black and very unappealing (in fairness, we never ordered that before and certainly never will again), I know potatoes oxidize but I make pizza with potatoes at home and they never look that black.Even the crust on both pizzas (something we have always loved in the past) tasted re-heated and bland. What a disappointment. I hope this is a "one off" because the regular cooks may be off for the holidays? I am not certain we will order again. read more

Hubby introduced me to PizzaPlace in Westerly. He used to go by himself "all the way from Warwick" because this shrimp and artichoke pizza is a thing of perfection. You either love it or it's totally not your thing. WE LOVE IT!!! We start with a Foster "oil can" and a small gorgonzola salad to share. The salad is perfectly chilled with a house vinaigrette that is tangy, tons of gorgonzola bits, sliced mushrooms for heft, red onion slivers give it a bite and a couple of cherry tomatoes for color. The photo is of a small but it could easily be enough salad for a family of four! When we order the pizza, we ask for them to rinse the artichokes and add more fresh garlic. We have added cheese in the past and it distorts the proportions of the ingredients. I don't know how they do it but the pizza crust holds up to the heavy toppings! The shrimp are perfectly cooked so that they pop in your mouth when you bite into them. And they do not skimp on the shrimp! No joke about the half pound of shrimp that they put on the pizza. There are so many different pizza options but we only ever get this one (unless we have a guest who isn't into a "weird" shrimp pizza). Sometimes we stop on the way to the casino and the leftover pizza, just out of the fridge, is still delicious! One last comment: the staff is lovely. They go out of their way to make you feel at home. The cooks are in the open so you can talk to them. I am told that The Pizza Place has long been a staple in Westerly, with its brick walls and possibly brick ovens. We went here to get pizza and tossed salad. The plain pizza was excellent tasting. $11.50 for a 14" pie= expensive. The 3 topping pizza was $18.50. It was also 14 inches. The green peppers were not cooked enough, the eggplant tasted fine and the carmelized onions were also fine= expensive. The tossed salad was very large, filled mostly with romaine lettuce. $3.95. Expensive. Though the meal was good, I felt it was way overpriced and with the sales tax at 7% and the local sales tax at 1%, topped off a slightly bitter taste in my mouth. Located In the center of downtown westerly, this is a killer location. I have been here a few times for pizza and have never been disappointed. They serve a thin crust pizza with tons of options for toppings. They are also accommodating with requests to do a half and half pizza (so you can try two different pizzas). The pizza itself comes out quickly and it is consistently delicious. I have yet to try one I didn't love. The sausage and roasted peppers pizza is delicious and I would eat that again and again. Had an early dinner with my sister today and we each ordered the Tuscan soup and a pizza. The soup that came was a beef minestrone, but we were assured it was the Tuscan soup. So we ate it anyway. It was beef minestrone NOT Tuscan. Then my pizza came without cheese. Restaurant pizza without cheese?!?! I would've liked to have been told that it wouldn't have cheese since that's not a common thing. Or if I missed it somewhere written on the menu, just double check with the patron. One of my absolutely favorite places to eat. If you've read my other reviews you'll know what matters to me- food quality/freshness/portions, atmosphere and service (especially kid friendliness). PizzaPlace excels at each. Mainly a pizza restaurant (duh), they also have a fairly robust menu of salads and other dishes. A favorite of mine is Sheila's favorite salad. Like most things there, it's served in a family-sized portion and makes for a great appetizer or side. As for drinks, the well-stocked beer fridges are visible from the floor. They carry an excellent selection of old reliable domestic & foreign beers along with local crafts. Having two young kids, kid-friendliness means a lot. Every server here is sweet and friendly to the kids. You can see the pizzas being prepared in the front, and they never mind when we walk the kids up to watch them. Our family only orders from 2 pizza places in Westerly & Pizzaplace is one of them. I am a huge fan of their thin crust pizzas. Ingredients are fresh & they have such great options on their menu. My favorites include Ed's BBQ & their pulled pork but I haven't had one yet that disappointed me. It's a great place to take a family & the decor is clean and inviting. There's a great outdoor seating area that's perfect in the summer especially after a long day at the beach. They also have a pretty good beer selection & they dishes other than pizza. Their chopped pasta salad is a favorite of my wife & I think it's pretty good too. It's borderline criminal to give Pizzaplace 2 stars BUT Phil H has a few good points. I could easily polish of one of their pizzas alone & they are a bit pricey. Parking can be difficult too but it's in a great downtown location. read more

Real authentic italian pizza! It's simply the best in town. Be mindful that it's "thin" and "doesn't have a lot of sauce" because that's how pizza is originally supposed to be. I usually get the margherita or mozzarella pizza. read more

Minus a star for the two cherry tomatoes and maybe 5 slices of mushroom (I struggle with that being a $9.50 salad). Pizzaplace has a great space with tons of tables. The staff is always very friendly, and you always know you'll get the same quality. My favorite is definitely the chopped pasta salad - I know a lot of people like their house balsamic dressing, but try the creamy garlic dressing on it - so good!! Don't forget to start with a foccacia bread or David's garlic bread and a beer from their wide selection. For pizza, Ed's BBQ Chicken or Hawaiian are my go-tos.
