Tea

I had 3 college friends in town this past week and we ended up eating here at the last minute after a nearby place we had booked didn't meet all the dietary requirements of my friends and we are glad we did. One of my friends is vegetarian and the other is gluten free. I don't eat bell peppers and limit my dairy intake so this place ended up being perfect! So many delicious items and all for just $16! I had the hibiscus tea and it was delicious as well. The person at the register was super helpful and explained everything. They had a menu of the day so everything was made fresh. The menu was hand written! We were able to sit outside under a covered area which was nice when the rain came down a bit. It was a lovely day to sit outside in the evening. I look forward to having another meal here again. As a long time Austinite who maybe ate her a few times 15+ years ago, I'm glad it's still around and serving great, vegan, and healthy food!

The vibe is immaculate here, which makes food only part of the focus, because the space here is designed to attract those that are looking for a level of inner peace, and I was absolutely down for it. The food was simple, healthy, and delicious, and I had a great time consuming everything from vegetables to legumes to tea. One meal portion was $16 per person and I was served a plate of food that contained sauteed vegetables, salad, lentils, and steamed vegetables with sauces. Everything was delicious. Since I normally loved cooking vegan at home, some of what they served here, especially lentils, matched exactly what I would have cooked. The soup and tea were amazing as well, and there was a piece of paper on the table with explanations about the tea. Even on a Monday in December, this place had everything that I needed. There was a hammock outside, a path to walk on, and a bulletin board with flyers advertising all types of local events that were along the lines of healing and inner peace. That further solidified my perceptions about how this place would attract people whose energies aligned with what this place was trying to surround itself with.

If you want to feel virtuous for the rest of the day, Casa de Luz is your spot. This place is basically the mothership for holistic, plant-based, vegetable-forward dining in Austin. This was my second visit, and the food followed the same formula as the first. You walk in, pay at the counter (as of late 2025 the meal is $16, there is only one option), then swing around to the other counter to pick up your tray of wellness. It comes with soup and a salad. Today's lineup: massaged kale, a vegetable medley of cauliflower, carrot, and zucchini and rice and black beans for your carbs and protein. The main item if you call it that was a taco in a corn tortilla, which was filled with, shocker, more vegetables. Mushroom and green bean taco. I have to admire the commitment. Hot or iced tea is self serve and comes with the meal. There's also dessert if you want to pay a little extra. The vibe is exactly what you'd expect from an Austin institution that's been doing this forever. It sits in a little cluster of shops that all radiate holistic energy. There was an organic juice shop, a place that services healthy hot chocolate. I didn't see a crystal store, but I could have just missed it. Speaking of things I may have missed, I didn't see any knives with the other cutlery. Just forks and spoons here. And honestly, why would you need a knife? There's nothing here that a fork can't gently subdue. The outdoor dining area is lovely, with trees and a peaceful feel, and the indoor space is just as nice. Tranquil world music plays softly in the background. I've never been at night, but the little pathway to the restaurant looks like it would be beautiful in the evening. You come here if you want vegetables, with a side of vegetables, sprinkled with more vegetables. It's not Franklin Barbecue, and it's not trying to be. It's Casa de Luz, and for what it is, it's great.

We really enjoyed dinner here! The atmosphere was super relaxing, and the surrounding area is so lush and serene. It also has a really nice community-oriented feel. The menu rotates daily, and you order at the front before grabbing your choice of hot or cold tea and silverware. Once your meal is ready, they place the day's meal on a tray for you to pick up. It's a pretty simple and relaxed setup. Our favorite parts of the meal were definitely the vegan veggie sushi rolls and the bean side. Everything was really enjoyable! One thing to keep in mind is that the menu is preset, so if you have any food allergies, I'd recommend calling ahead to see what will be available that day. Especially if you have a nut allergy. Overall, we had a great experience and really enjoyed the food, peaceful atmosphere, and unique daily-menu concept!

This place is magical! The food is tasty. It is plant based and organic. If they allow it, I recommend bringing a container in case you have leftovers. They give you a generous amount of food. Food and tea is a set price unless you want to add on dessert. Dessert is extra. Everyone here (staff and patrons) seems relaxed and to be enjoying the present moment. The vibe here is super chill. This spot is definitely a hidden gem in Austin. There is also a second location on MLK which I'd like to check out one day soon.

I love the Casa De Luz space because it has a long walkway of paths with vegetation and seating areas. The location is so peaceful with water fountains and the sound of running water. There are several really unique murals that are painted on the buildings. I like to go walk around and explore the paths and sit and reflect in the beauty and peacefulness of the place. I was here for a wellness run collective meetup on Sunday morning and they had many vendors on site. It was a great location to host a community event. They also have a restaurant on site serving whole plant cuisine. I love their motto that they are a beacon for connection to food, community and ourselves. They derive their essential fatty acids from freshly ground seeds and nuts, creating sauces and dressings that not only nourish the body but also honor the wholeness of the plants themselves. I like the communal dining experience that fosters human connection.

Wonderful calming ambiance. Loved the vision and the food felt healing and fresh. Incase you are wondering if a vegan plate could keep you full, I would say it very much will. Most of us are not used to eating so many fiber rich foods! I do not eat vegan in my day to day diet and didn't feel a lack of anything in this meal. I will be back. Here's a sample menu from the day I went. It's mostly self serve and you need to bus and organize your dishes properly so but the lady at the front answered all my questions nicely so I'd say service was good.

The most zen space in all of Texas. Community - healing food - beautiful souls. this isn't as much of a restaurant as it is a community gathering space. Macrobiotic meals prepared with love. Wonderful selection of desserts. Hot and iced tea to wash it all down. This day, I enjoyed squash and sweet potato soup, salad with cooling dressing, beans, greens with the delicious sauce of cashews, millet with mushroom gravy. Hibiscus and lemongrass iced tea. Divine

I came here on a Saturday and enjoyed their whole food, plant-based lunch with kukicha tea. For dessert, I had chia pudding, and got a slice of pecan pie to go. It's fascinating to watch the ladies in the kitchen enthusiastically cutting fresh produce and preparing the dishes. Vibe is casual. Service is friendly. You can sit at one of the tables inside, or dine in the courtyard.

I love love love this place I can not say enough good things about this place It's so peaceful n kind The food is amazing and nutritious The customer service is amazing you can see the care they put into their dishes It's so much variety you can't tell it's solely plant based There is an outside area that is peaceful for kids n adults Nature pathway N so much to see,...

I never would have discovered this spot if I hadn't attended puppy yoga! It's such a charming and relaxing place--definitely my vibe. I did have a little trouble finding the restaurant, though maybe I just didn't look hard enough. With hammocks to lounge in, plenty of cozy seating, and cute plants all around, it's the perfect spot to unwind.

Decent food. Super healthy. They serve tea but with no sugar. So you'll be drinking bitter tea. Just FYI. Like not even natural sources of sugar are provided like agave or coconut sugar? Natural sugar is not the enemy. This was one of the only things that rubbed me the wrong way. Otherwise, Ambiance is 10/10. Dark and peaceful in there. I eventually want to go back and try their cafe and meditation lounge. The grounds are gorgeous! Lush greenery everywhere.

Casa De Luz Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Casa De Luz

Do they use peanuts or hazelnuts?

They use a lot of nuts in their sauces and dressings, so I would check the website or call and ask because the menu changes constantly.

Do they require masks to enter and order? I only see the workers wearing them.

Casa is pro-choice and allow others to make their own choices based on how they feel and what works best for each person.

Is this location dog friendly? At least in the patio?

Yes, the patio areas are dog friendly

It's a no-meat kitchen with mostly vegan options, though they do serve eggs, dairy and cheese. A VEGAN EGGS BENEDICT?! Like WHAAATTTT. And on weekends, they have mini vegan donuts! If you're lucky, you might even snag a vegan cinnamon roll, but apparently those sell out FAST. So many specials and goodies worth mentioning that I'd be here all day trying to list them. I ordered the potato leek vegan omelette with potato hash, and YUMMMM. Absolutely delicious! Love seeing a place get creative with vegan options instead of treating them like an afterthought. Between the food, the service and the laid back atmosphere, this place checks all the boxes. Highly recommend, and I'll absolutely be back. Austin, we might have a new regular spot!

We also tried a purple yam milk coffee drink, which was delicious and something a little different from what I'd usually order. Both feel like popular, high end fast casual chains popping up throughout Austin. Chimichurri Steak & Bacon Sandwich ($15.99, 6.5/10) - Portion size felt on the small side, after finishing the whole sandwich I was still hungry and could've easily eaten another half to feel full - Steak was relatively tender, thin sliced so it was easy to bite through - Chimichurri sauce was a bit more acidic than I'm used to, and the pickled veggies leaned acidic too, could've used something creamy to balance it all out - Bread was really good, and overall sandwich quality still felt high - Would've been nice to get a bag of chips included, given you're paying $15.99 for just the sandwich Overall, Mendocino Farms still brings high quality ingredients and good food. I've had another sandwich here in the past that I really enjoyed, so next time I'll probably switch it up and try something different. Good sign that the quality holds up across their different menu items.

Miranda was our server and she was so kind and attentive. She made sure we had a great experience and was a pleasure to talk to. To eat I ordered the classic breakfast and to drink I had the vanilla maca. I didn't love the vanilla maca, and I only blame myself for that. I have never had maca so I didn't know what to expect but the drink basically tasted like a chocolate protein shake. Which isn't bad but I wanted like more of a latte so that was on me. My meal however? Loved it. Everything was so flavorful and hit the spot exactly with what I wanted. I also really appreciate a salad with breakfast since this helps lower your glucose spike and so when a restaurant offers this I know they know true wellness!!! My girlfriends both ordered the avocado toast and loved it. One ordered the cherry vanilla limeade and enjoyed it as well, but as an avid cherry hater I didn't try it...but if you like cherry she recommends it!
