Service= wtf I'm a pour over fan, I go to a different non-chain local neighborhood coffee shop often but they are closed on Mondays so I decided to hit up another local spot. I ordered. It was very loud inside (music) so I went outside -of course it's on 7th street so even louder outside. After being outside about 7-10 minutes I came inside and sat down. I saw a mug of coffee sitting near the counter and inquired if it was my pour over the cashier looked terrified and said mine wasn't done yet. Then a few moments later the gal from the back slammed it down and yelled "POUR OVER THANK YOU VERY MUCH" I prefer to support local but I don't prefer passive aggressive attitudes. A customer is allowed to ask questions it's called communication. My local spot can do five pour over coffees synonymously in four minutes flat at a better price point with no attitude. Maybe it was a tough Monday I get that but come on folks get it together. read more

Came in a Sunday around 1000. Very cozy, calm vibe. Only one person there studying. Plenty of seating. I think majority are wooden chairs, I can't speak on comfort because we didn't sit. I got the iced matcha latte, it was okay. My friend got their CC latte I think. And for someone that doesn't like coconut I could appreciate it was a well made drink. Balance of coffee and flavor. I prob couldn't drink a whole thing to myself because the coconut is noticeable. They had a yummy looking pistachio pop tart but didn't try food The service was okay. The person wasn't warm and came off irritated. Can't imagine how they would be in a morning rush Anywho, not eager to come back but I would get one of their coffees if the opportunity presented itself read more

Such a cute coffee shop! There are several Cartels around the valley but this one is definitely one of the cutest. Cute artwork and very aesthetic. Wholesome and bright. Parking is a little tough if it's busy. I always get the CCL, soooo good. Has Nami's vegan caramel in it, I love. The ice doesn't melt as fast and even an hour and a half after I got my drink there was still ice but the drink itself wasn't watery. read more

We found this on our way to the Phoenix airport the other day, and with a few hours to kill before our flight, I was very pleased to have found this location. My husband both had a drip coffee and split a cinnamon braid. I will say that the cost of the drip, which was about $4.25 or a bit more? and no refills, was about the most I've ever spent anywhere for drip coffee. I sort of expected this price for drip out here in the Southwest, but found it cheaper at another location in Phoenix. All I had purchased was two drips and a braided cinnamon, all for $15 and change. A bit much. However, the coffee was good and I did purchase a bag of beans to take back home with us. There are other Cartel Roasting locations in Phoenix, and I had intended to check others out, but time didn't allow for that. This location was perfect in more ways than one. It was close to the airport, and the customer service, ambiance and overall cute house turned into a coffee shop was well worth the visit. I have been to other coffee shops inside a house or bungalow turned into a coffee shop, and this is perhaps the best use of space that I've come across. It was well thought out and planned. First this place is deaf friendly.. The cashier started signing to me in sign language.. She made me feel welcome.. I didn't have to use my phone to communicate with her.. The place is super cute, love the windows and the art.. It's spacious.. I came Thursday morning...There were plenty of seats.. I ordered a hot vanilla latte with oat milk.. They only have one size, it cost me 7 dollars!! I was shocked how expensive it was. The flavor was alright... it was thick and lightly sweet..I liked it but I would be spending that much for a one size coffee. :/ I do like the place to sit down and read.. There's more to menu like pastries and breakfast. Which I haven't tried. read more

I came by here on a Sunday in the late morning as I was cruising home from South Mountain, for something to eat and a coffee. I chose an almond croissant which the staff said was baked at their Tempe bakery. My standard for a good croissant is French. It wasn't there (but a step above grocery store) - I probably wouldn't bother again. Now the coffee: I was a bit floored by the price of $4.75 for a drip coffee. The first sip tasted funny to me, but it grew on me and in the end I decided it was on par with other popular local brews. Seemed to have a pretty high caffeine level. Again though, I wouldn't bother coming back for it - for this one the reason being the price is just not competitive. Other local places (and Starbucks) are in the $2.75-$3 range. The little house setting was cute. It was pretty packed full inside and I was perhaps a bit stinky from a morning on the mountain so I took my stuff to go. I was with a group of four and everyone's drink was not drinkable. Unfortunately, we were in a rush or we would have asked for a redo. There were only two gals working, and they obviously needed more help, as they were swamped; I felt bad for them. I'm guessing the reason the drinks were awful, is that since they were super busy they made lots of shots at once and allowed them to sit for too long, which caused them to become very bitter. I hope the owner or manager is able to read this and educate their staff, so the next person doesn't waste $13 on a couple drinks. The staff did seem friendly, and the atmosphere seemed nice, which is the only reason for the two stars. read more

Excellent coffee and food in a beautiful, bright atmosphere! They really take pride in their coffee drinks, and they do a great pour over as well as lattes. Their small menu is vegetarian or vegan. I ordered a latte. I ordered it with oat milk. Was told there was one size - a tiny to go cup. It was $7 and change! What the &$@! I've never paid that much for a latte with plant milk. Not even in Manhattan. A quick glance at the menu had said it would cost closer to $5. Looks like they are milking the vegans and the lactose intolerant!!! I was thinking it better be the best tasting latte I've ever had for that price. One sip told me quite the opposite! It tasted quite awful. Never returning. read more

However It is under my impression that is this a coffee shop NOT a political ground where you have people asking you to sign their petitions. was so hoping to leave a 5 star review. The environment is wonderful, light, bright seating inside & great outdoor seating with shade. The dirty chai was tasty as was the chai pudding. During the payment transaction, the employee rang me up & i tapped my card to the credit card reader, she immediately said something went wrong & said she had to cancel and redo, ok, no problem at all - that happens, so rang me up again and transaction was complete! i reviewed my credit card 2 days later to see 2 charges from Cartel. I phoned them, got their VM so left my name, number & reason for calling d/t the double charge. I didn't hear back for 24+ hrs, I then went online and emailed them through their Contact Us section. Again, I heard nothing back in 24+ hrs. At this point I called my credit card company and went through the dispute process. This was only a $10 dispute, but the lack of response from Cartel is very disappointing. As such, instead of a a 5 star rating, I'm leaving a 1 star rating. Not because of the double charge, again that happens, but given their complete lack of customer service in following up on a situation that was brought to their attention in 2 different ways. Had they appropriately responded & acted on resolving this issue, I would be singing their praises....but instead they have made the decision to take on a 1 star rating. Customer service is KEY, it can make an ok experience feel fantastic when the customer is felt heard, respected and felt valued by the operation. In this case, what I thought was a fantastic experience, has turned into one that I will not visit again & will share my experience that they apparently like to double charge their customers. read more
