Great find! Stopped by on our way to the Jamestown Settlement. The place is quirky and cute, keeping with the "carrot patch" theme without being overwhelming. It felt like a hidden gem to us tourists. The simplicity of the menu contributes to the quality. My Quarterhouse sandwich (roast beef) was beyond a simple sandwich. Fresh, innovative, and addictive, my only disappointment is that I live so far away! My friend declared that her tuna melt was "the best she has ever had in her life"!! Very disappointed in this visit to Carrot Tree Kitchens. The chicken pot pie sounded delicious, but VERY little chicken in this recipe. It was served in a foil pie pan (think Swanson's or Banquet) with a full bottom crust and about half full of "pie" filling. I think mine had less than five chunks of chicken! Lot's of gravy, which was delicious, but for $9.95 I expected more. No sides included just a carrot slice, of course. Carrot Tree needs to rethink this menu item! read more

My husband and I popped in here one Sunday for breakfast. We were pleasantly surprised by the food. We both had eggs, bacon, and toast. He opted for tater tots. I had cheesy grits. I loved the grits, so cheesy and delicious. The bacon was also cooked exactly how we like it, not too crispy. The service was good and our meal came out pretty speedy. We got desserts from the bakery to go. I had a piece of carrot cake. It truly was the best carrot cake I've ever eaten my life. Everything about it was perfect. My husband got banana pudding. It wasn't prepared how I normally like to eat banana pudding, but I will say it was pretty tasty. I can't wait to try more things on the menu and more things from the bakery. read more

This is a good place to eat and overall it won't be a mistake to eat here. The toast was whole grain, the coffee is fair trade and locally sourced. The eggs came out cooked right and the home fries were probably our favorite on the table. Two of us at the table got the quiche of the day, one ham and one broccoli. They were warm, savory and filling - not "wow" but satisfying. We visited on a Tuesday morning so it wasn't busy. The staff were friendly and attentive enough, but we had to ask for a coffee refill, the waitress never did offer on her own. I do think we waited a little longer than necessary for our food to come out considering there were not many customers. Overall not a bad experience, but attention to a few more little details would have made it a great experience. read more

Carrot Tree's cakes are delicious. I recently ordered carrot, chocolate and almond cakes for my father's birthday party. The carrot is their signature and very moist with a great blend of spices. The chocolate is decadent and rich while the almond has a delicious flavor and is very light. Everyone at the party raved about the flavor and moistness. We always come by here when we're in town to get lunch or a treat. However, there's no website which makes it difficult to place advance orders or review their menu. I called several times over the weeks preceding the partyand requested a menu to be emailed to me, but never received one. I had to go by in person and place the order two days before the party and by then several of the cakes were no longer available. Would be helpful to be able to order ahead of time. read more

Out of the park grand slam!! I rarely go in anyplace and can't choose what to order because the whole menu looks FANTASTIC! The wife and i both went with The Jefferson a grilled pimento cheese sandwich with Hamon multi grain bread. Simple yes but tasty and grilled perfectly. A cute place super clean and homey, prices were super reasonable and service was above par. The bake shop at the front had us drooling on the way out. This place had room on a Sunday when our first choice had an hour wait. It's a sunny bright and clean restaurant with a fun story you can read on the back of the menu. We got there at 11:30 and were excited for brunch reading the menu. We got coffee and then when we ordered breakfast off the menu we were told they stop serving breakfast at 11. On a Sunday. That earns you 3 stars, sorry but for a diner type restaurant in a very touristy area, in a strip mall, breakfast should be served at least till noon. Instead I had a chicken salad which was decent and my son got a burger, again decent. Service was ok - I never got the water I asked for - and when we were told no breakfast I said oh well let me look at the specials and she huffed no lobster chowder left and walked away. So yeah not stellar. Wish I had tried the carrot cake it looked fabulous. read more

Terrible experience! I had family visiting and wanted to take them to lunch here. It was a Wednesday afternoon, the restaurant was not crowded, many empty tables, no wait to be seated. The Hostess asked if we had a reservation? I said no. She Told us to wait, and she would see if they had a table...we were like really!! After she seated us, our waitress moved us to a different table. Before the waitress could bring out our drinks; the Hostess came over to us and said "YOU CANT SIT HERE! THIS IS NOT YOUR TABLE!" She demanded we move. We were shocked and disgusted by her behavior. We walked out. It's a shame, that one horrible employee can ruin the reputation of a business. Stumbled upon this establishment over the weekend and So glad we did! We had lunch (Not The Polo sandwich w/ waffle fries and Donna's Burger with Kettle Cooked Potato Chips) both were absolutely delicious. We then stopped by their bakery on the way out, picked up a pecan bar and carrot cake cupcake...OMG, the best cupcake ever! We picked up a dozen cupcakes before leaving town. All of the food was great! The place was clean and staff were all super nice as well! We will definitely visit again when in Williamsburg! read more

Awesome little place! The restaurant was so cheery and cozy and everyone working there was lovely! Especially our server Sabrina. Napoleon Crepes were spectacular - ripe strawberries and nutella in perfect crepes. Breakfast croissant, grits, and bacon were delish as well. My family spent the morning in Jamestown, and were looking for a place to get some good food for lunch. We looked over the menu, and unanimously decided to all order the ham biscuits and tomato basil soup. Three out of the four of us got the four biscuits, and the other one got only two. The ham biscuits had fresh ham and bread and tasted amazing. The tomato basil soup wasn't too thick, but definitely had lots of flavors. For desert, we chose one of their dozens of deserts, the carrot cupcake. This was definitely one of the best cupcakes that I have had in a long time. The cupcake was most, and had amazing frosting. The cake part of the cupcake had lots of good tasing nut chunks and is now a personal favorite. I will hopefully be coming back to this restaurant in the near future. read more

The baked goods are very nice but the staff is surly. You would think people who work in the sweets industry would focus on being sweet. Usually everything I get at Carrot Tree is wonderful. I especially love their crepes. This last time I got a spinach and mushroom crepe and it was the nastiest thing ever. They just dumped canned spinach on a crepe and it looked and tasted disgusting. Since I was with some older ladies, I didn't want to complain, but just couldn't eat any of it. We split an app spanakopita and were impressed at how well they were prepared and tasted, typically we only get this dish at Greek restaurants. Nice place for lunch. Reasonable prices and portions. We split the tuna melt and ham salad, which were quite tasty. The desserts are amazing, especially the carrot cake. With that said, the service can be slow and the surroundings leave a little to be desired. The "carrot-themed" decorations are endearing, but you can feel cramped at times since the tables are so close to one another. The new location feels like a cafeteria sometimes. Personally, we liked their old location farther down Jamestown Rd (more intimate, homey, etc.), but we will still keep coming back for the good deals and dishes. read more

Built in an old motel, it has a funky vibe that is especially fun to visit early morning, before tourists come, to get a cake or pastry to-go. It's staff of bakers serve up decadent, homemade goodness with lots of love and local ingredients in the mix. We're giving this one star because the staff was nice and welcoming. We typically enjoy finding local restaurants when going out of town, but this was a bit like stepping into the Twilight Zone! What was once an old and falling down motel with much needed repair is now a restaurant with much needed repair. The food came in small portions on plastic plates and looked like what you make during a picnic. It was over priced and way overrated from any Internet reviews. The highly recommended Turkey wrap came out as ham and had too much mayonnaise. The food was so disappointing we skipped the Carrot Cake we hoped to try and packed what we could, and left! Worst service in my life! We were told a 10 minute wait time, then 15 minutes, then when 45 minutes passed, another couple came in, were immediately seated. The hostess threw up her hands and said , "oh well, that's just how it is", when we asked about getting seated. Our group of weary travelers consisted of two children, two elderly and two middle age adults. Having been on the road for four hours, then treated so disrespectfully made for a HORRIBLE experience!!!!! Whatever happened to "southern hospitality"? We go there and they were not serving breakfast. Would of been nice if they had informed us of this when we called them. Would of given them one star but they were apologetic.
