This is perhaps the worse Chinese takeout restaurant experience ever. I ordered the shrimp fried rice with extra shrimp and two egg rolls to go. For starters, the shrimp were bland and chewey. The rice was simply brown rice without the traditional eggs or vegetables. Not even a healthy dose of soy sauce could help this dish. The dish was completely void of flavor. However, the real kicker were the egg rolls. The texture and crunch were as expected, but the filling smelled and looked like garbage. I was so disgusted as I threw my food down the garage disposal after only a few bites. I was not expecting fine dining, but this is ridiculous. Please avoid this place at all cost. read more

It's not edible the hot and sour soup has a over powering bleach or chlorine smell and taste Absolutely disgusting Everything els was pretty decent but I'll stay away from their soups if that's what they are serving. read more

Visiting Williamsburg from Maryland, and as usual the extended family couldn't agree on ONE restaurant, LOL! So several decided on Chinese food and this place was really close to our resort. I teased my daughter for not checking with me so I could check Yelp first - but this was a good choice. I ordered garlic chicken, and it was hot and delicious. I opted not to have a combo plate but the entrée came with rice and there were a few flowerets of broccoli that was crispy-tender so that was a bonus. There was plenty of garlic! That is definitely a complaint I have with other restaurants - not enough garlic! The chicken was crispy on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside, in just the right bite-sized pieces. It's priced very well, a combo for about $8.95 which includes rice, egg roll, and a meal - I had general Tso's chicken. It was warm and tasted good. Your traditional Chinese food. First time...never again. Ordered on line to pick up. BBQ Spear Ribs appetizer at $14.99 were greasy and hard to chew (ate one piece and tossed the rest), Happy Dinner at 14.99 came with w. rice, (charged 2.50 up-charge for fried rice). Husband ate 1/2 and tossed the rest. He wasn't impressed with the meal. (soggy mess), Sesame Chicken Combo $9.30 was supposed to include 1 egg roll & a choice of fried or white rice. I didn't get an egg roll and was charged $2.00 for fried rice (certainly not worth the extra charge for dry & tasteless fried rice). My Husband picked up the order and when questioned about the up-charge for the rice, the woman at the front counter said that was correct and went to get a menu. He told her that they needed to update their on-line order menu. At this point my Husband didn't want to argue with her and paid the $50. As a side note. This review is for the Golden China restaurant on Longill Road win Williamsburg, VA. Went here for lunch at around 11:30 on a Wednesday, and was greeted warmly by the cashier who spoke very good English. I ordered steamed dumplings, spring rolls, and a small pork loin Mein. The total was $15 even (a fair price!) and was told about 15 minutes. I went to go get some gas at the 7-11 while the food was cooking, and came back about 10 minutes later and it was already waiting for me :) The food was delicious! The pork lo Mein was very tasty, and had a great meat/noodle/veggie ratio. Not too oversaturated with oil. The steamed dumplings were actually steamed (as opposed to a lot of takeout places that boil them instead of steam them), but were a little on the bland side for the filling. Btw, you can tell when a dumpling is boiled when it's wet, and the chopsticks slip and can't pick them up. A steamed dumplings will stick to the chopsticks. The spring rolls were golden and crispy, and tasted great. It did not come with sweet and sour sauce, so be sure to grab a few duck sauce packets on your way out if you're ordering takeout. Overall, really satisfied with their service, prices, and food quality. Just one note: they advertise Japanese food as well, but it is a very small apartment of their menu, and they DO NOT SERVE SUSHI. But, I will definitely be eating here for my next Chinese craving! read more

If there was a zero star or negative stars I would've used those. We did take out last night and when we got home realized they had made a mistake on the order. Called them and they said bring the other food back and we will exchange the correct food for the mistaken order. I thought for sure I had heard them incorrectly so I did not bring back the food and instead tossed it in our trashcan at home, it being a pandemic and all, I couldn't imagine that they would want me to bring food back into their restaurant. When I got there they would not give me the correct order because I had not brought back to the incorrect food. I can't believe they would want contaminated food back into their restaurant, even if they were going to throw it away themselves which I question, since they wanted it back so badly. The rude woman at the register then told me that she would not exchange my food at all, to which I replied I would never eat there again anyway since I don't know if I'm getting somebody else's returned food! I have never before heard of a restaurant wanting you to bring back food that they cooked in error; isn't it bad enough that I had to drive all the way back to the restaurant to get my correct order? Golden China deceivingly offers both Chinese and Japanese food (including sushi and hibachi). I've ordered takeout twice- once for Japanese Chicken Teriyaki and once for Chinese Chicken & Broccoli. The Japanese was very good (though pricier), the Chinese very standard. The Chicken Teriyaki came with Miso soup and was around $10. The portion wasn't huge, but the food was definitely pretty high quality. Lots of veggies, nice semi-sweet sauce. The Chicken & Broccoli was very average. It had that MSG-laden taste that hits the spot when I'm craving it. The price was right for a small portion ($5). The interior is quite odd. Half of the restaurant is for Chinese takeout, which looks the part- bare bones with a menu board showcasing a few of the regular dishes they offer. The other half, however, caters to those looking to have a formal dining experience, with hardwood floors, dim lighting and Japanese decorations. The service has been fine- food prepared quickly, but no attempts at friendly conversation when picking up my food. Good enough to return since it's so close to home and gets the job done when I'm craving Americanized Asian take out. read more

My first day here, my mom and I decided to some food while we wait for our check-in at Williamsburg Plantation Resort. Mom orderd her teriyaki chicken with string beans, I ordered General Tso Chicken. I requested my sauce to be on the side instead of having the chicken tossed. We sit and wait for the food to come out. There was dust and a few deceased bugs around the window sill (1st Ewwww!). Our food come out nice and warm. Mom and I prayed and started to chow down. There were only two pieces of broccoli on the plate so I asked for a few more pieces. Extra broccoli coming right up! (YEAH!) I'm using my fork and knife to cut it into bite size pieces of chicken. After cutting my third piece of chicken I notice a visitor on my plate. I suddenly yell "AWWW HELLL NAWWWW!" Mom said, "Henri calm down what is wrong?" By this time I'm ready to throw up. I'm furious and my mom is still trying to figure out whats wrong. "Mom! Look!" Pointing to the bug that was fried, died, and laid to the side (of my plate)! I have the cashier come to our table. She immediately says she can give me a new plate of General Tso Chicken. I decline. I request a refund. The cashier told me that she cant give me a refund, but she can gave me extra broccoli that should be enough. THE LOOK ON MY FACE! Two more customers come in, I'm trying not to have to show my bad side. But I was furious! 1. The place is dusty and stuffy with dead bugs visible on the window sill. 2. The food comes out with a special ingredient I have no interest in eating. 3. You refuse to give me a refund for the food I'm clearly unsatisfied with! The moral of the story is, if you go to Williamsburg, and you want some carry out, dont waste your time going to Golden China. Long story short, I asked for a refund a little bit louder (omitting what was on my plate so that the other customers were able to hear) I got my refund (after she went to talk to her manager). Travelling from new york, I was skeptical to get Chinese food while in Virginia. But the options in the area are very limited and most don't provide delivery. I called around noon and ordered a few lunch special options and they told me it'll be ready in 10 minutes. It was only a 5 minute drive from the resort I was staying at. When I arrived my food was ready Ordered general Tso chicken lunch special, bbq spare ribs and 4 chicken wings with french fries and paid only $18 the portions were pretty large. And the food was very delicious. We were all stuffed after we ate so I would say the value for the food is definitely there. It'll be my go to spot when I come back to Williamsburg read more

A great many reviews have come from people saying they were staying at a local resort. I WORK at that resort and eat here often, usually it's been (pretty) good. On 5/18/2022 my wife and daughter stopped by to get me dinner. My wife, who happens to be blond, brought me the shrimp egg foo young she ordered me to my job. I opened it and took 2-3 bites and noticed something WRONG. There was a long Black hair in my food, I saved the hair and took pictures of it. I returned to the restaurant to tell them what happened, the lady argues that No One that worked there had long black hair, the lady I spoke with has long black hair. Her husband came out from the back and started arguing with me, "next time the person that picked it up has to be the one to bring it back with the receipt. The ladies that bought this were white, you're black. Yes my wife is white is that a problem with you? It got worse after that, needless to say I will NEVER be back, and I ABSOLUTELY recommend everyone reading this stay clear of this "Restaurant". read more

Food was so so. It's more like a carryout place than a full service restaurant. The taste of the food is not typical American Chinese food. But also not authentic Chinese. My husband ordered the chicken broccoli and the sauce was very sticky and they put anise in the food - we really didn't care for. The fried rice was ok. The egg roll was edible but not great. I live right down the road from Golden China, but this is the first time I've actually gone, on a whim last night during a trip to the 7-11 next door. While the order counter is set up like a typical take-out Chinese chain, they sport a more private dining area- complete with booths- directly adjacent to the order counter. It's pleasantly decorated in what appears to be more Japanese style decor, as this location does boast a selection of both Chinese and Japanese cuisine. It does a decent job of feeling intimate despite the healthy hustle and bustle of business at the counter. My friend and I shared the General Tso's tofu (I'm a former vegetarian and still enjoy well- prepared tofu) and it was cooked and arrived to-go style very quickly. They did appear to have fountain drinks, but we had sodas in bottles. The tofu was done very nicely and the rice was obviously fresh (this seems rare in the world of Chinese takeout) but I did find the sauce a little bland. Granted, I had just gotten over a cold and I don't want to carve that detail in stone until the Tso's sauce has hit my healthy tastebuds. The cook thanked us and took our trash as we left and seemed genuinely interested in our dining experience. A friendly staff is always a deal breaker for me, and they were very pleasant. I've been to most of the takeout "chinese" places in williamsburg, but not this one. what can I say. super unimpressed. i ordered some dumplings, lo mein, and the typical general tso's chicken. they all were pretty bad. the lo mein was filled with crunchy stuff i'm not sure were vegetables. the dumplings were so bad i just tossed them. the tso chicken was soggy and inedible. I tried to put some hot sauce on everything to make it edible, but it was all just pretty bad. i hate to dis places in my hometown, but avoid this place. there are other easy takeout places. read more

Came here for a quick bite with my son between games at a soccer tournament. Wasn't expecting too much as I had no time to research and the place was the only option nearby. Ordered the veggie fried rice to be safe. It was excellent!! Very fresh, and a good amount even for the small order. My son ordered the same and was also impressed. Wow....tried this place a few times. On the last visit, the food was cold, the oil that the chicken cooked in must have been very old. We called them back to explain and had to physically drive the dinner back to them to get our money back. No apologies....they simply didn't care. We WON'T be back......the entrees we ordered were Sweet and sour chicken and Chicken Lo Mein. Chicken was cold and lo mein noodles were barely room temperature. Absolutely awful. Their "Japanese" is a joke. If you order chicken teriyaki you will not get what you're expecting. Sushi area was sad and filthy. It is so difficult to find decent chinese in Virginia eating here has done nothing but weed out yet another place to not go to. read more
