I typically would refuse to give any place one star, but I also need to be honest both with myself and any other potential customers. Firstly, when I asked to substitute white rice for vegetable fried rice, the register lady replied "one dollar extra" and had a tone of criticism, as though I couldn't afford it. I figured as a fellow customer service employee, it's important to make sure any preventable problems are simply avoided. However, she slammed a pen on the counter after I paid and then walked away. There was absolutely no receipt. I waited until she came back, and she continued doing other tasks so I figured I could just let the person behind me get their order and I sat back down. After two minutes, she screamed for me to sign my receipt as if it were life or death. I was off-put, but still said nothing. After my group and I received our food, we couldn't help but hear the ENTIRE conversation between the same worker and a different customer, who wanted to get five spring rolls total. You could easily tell the customer was patient, but the worker continued to yell at her due to confusion on her part. For the food, too much teriyaki on the sesame chicken, the fried rice was entirely dry, and my girlfriend burned her tongue after attempting a sip of the wonton soup, which she had waited five minutes before even braving the soup. Controversial Opinion: I like this place. So does pretty much every local I know. It's just basic, average Chinese takeout in a shopping mall, like the majority of spots everywhere. If you want vegetarian options, you can find them: steamed veg, Bean Curd Szechuan style, Veggies in White or Brown sauce, etc. The non-veg options are pretty good, too; I've tried a pretty wide variety of things here over time, and it's all decent, even if nothing is particularly inspiring. The food here is ok. I've gone here about 4 times. My huge complaint today was their treatment of certain customers. It was so evident. It was super busy this night. Orders were taking almost an hour to fill. I had been waiting 45 minutes after calling in 15 min ahead. Still, I'm ok with waiting, they can't help if it's a busy night. Here's my BIG issue. There were about 7 of us waiting for food with people coming in and out. They call out orders by the number (not the name) used to call in. First, how ridiculous. So there's a room full of people trying to listen to someone call a full telephone number with a mask on, area code and all. So, in return, there were a bunch of people calling out different parts of their number trying to see if it fits. I'm waiting on a large order. Finally I see a very large order hit the counter. Instead of calling out all the number to everyone, he looks at a guy sitting near me and calls out part of the number, it sounded like mine. He says no and the guy at the front counter says nothing else. I chime in, hey my number is #### but he just shakes his head. Actually waves a finger at me like a child. Um, OK. I wait ANOTHER 15 min. The order just sits there. AGAIN he asks the guy sitting a few seats away if he ordered the "family meal", this time I'm so pissed. If this is my order and this guy for some reason can't comprehend that it's my food I will be pissed. I get up, say my full order to finally get his attention, but he still needs me to verify my number AGAIN. Once he's satisfied that I'm not stealing food that I paid nearly $50 for, he just waves me at it. No apology for the treatment. Other customers were making loud complaints about what was happening. Not me, I just want regular decency. I'm not the kind of person to make a scene but I thought about it. Every other person in that room talked loudly about how frustrated they were with the wait for the last half hour... not me. Not that they were wrong, but I don't complain about people cooking my food. I was just patient. For my patience, I get treated like I don't even exist. Well if I don't exist, then my money doesn't exist there either. There are honest mistakes and then there's blatant disrespect. I can hardly explain the rudeness from him. I just want to exchange food for money, simple, I don't even expect great customer service. But I don't accept disrespect or mistreatment. This is a great place for Chinese. My family eats here and the prices are great. They will also adjust the spiciness of food if you ask nicely. My mom and brother always get the broccoli and rice extra spicy. I always get the chicken teriyaki. They will also give you more or less of each thing if you ask. Unreliable food quality and unfriendly service!!! Pretty pissed off actually. This is the second time I've ordered from Hong Kong. The first time the food was "Meh!" Just okay. But because it's the closest and only order out place in this shopping area, we tried it again. BIG MISTAKE! It all started with the phone call. I placed a large order over the phone and wasn't trying to take much of the receptionist's time on the phone but there was no hint of friendliness in her voice. She hung up on me after I finished saying the last digit of my phone number. I didn't get to ask how long it would be! So I walk into the store and no one else is there. I address the cashier lady and receive no friendly address of any manner. No smile, no "Hi, how are you?" She immediately asks what I want and I say I'm here for pick up. She cuts me off, says "What phone number?" I couldn't understand her so I asked her politely what she had said again and she barks out the same response. I give her the number - still in a friendly voice. I asked for chopsticks and with absolutely no eye contact or any friendly tone to her voice she says, "How many?" as if she's annoyed. She proceeds to drop the box of the large amount of food I purchased on the top of the counter - loudly - again, showing no patience at all. She barks out the price, stares at her screen a few seconds, and then barks out the price loudly again like I"m stupid. Well - if she had looked at me even once in those 15 seconds I'm standing there, she would have seen me holding out the card to her. She snatches the card, slides it, I ask for chop sticks again and she slaps them down on the counter. Her tone, body language, and general brusque behavior toward me indicated that she had no interest in friendly customer service. I'm a server and understand facial expressions and body language and if I'm not wrong, she just didn't like ME - even though I was consistently friendly the whole interaction. LETS TALK FOOD! So I get home, in a fairly annoyed mood at her behavior toward me, and open the food. The only good part of the meal was the Crab Rangoon (which still had very little filler) and the Egg Foo Young (because gravy will make anything taste good right?). The large Pepper Steak I ordered (and I counted them) - had only EIGHT pieces of beef in it, not to mention it was VERY bland. The majority of the container was large green peppers and onions. The small Chicken Cashew order had approximately the same ratio of meat in it as well - but what little meat I could find didn't even taste like chicken It was all MUSH. The Shrimp Fried Rice was bland too. No egg in it at all, and it tasted like there was no seasoning added. If I had been eating in the store - I would have returned the food and gotten soup instead. But because the food was hidden in containers, how was I supposed to know how little for my money I was getting. I can safely say that I won't be going back, regardless of how accessible the restaurant is. Unfortunately Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant takes little interest in their customer service nor their food quality/consistency. At the end of the meal, I felt like every item tasted the same - probably because of how bland and how little attention to quality they had taken in cooking it. Off 143/Merrimac Trail near the Colonial area in Williamsburg. The parking here is ample and honestly this whole area is just dead. Typical Chinese take-out spot as far as menu and the actual establishment itself. Its pretty clean and for once the staff is actually really friendly! Foodwise, this place is alright. My roomie, sister and I ordered there out this weekend and thought it was so so. I ordered steamed vegetable and tofu, my sis ordered the vegetable lo mien and my roommate ordered their pork mei fun. The flavor here is way better than the last two places I tried but still not as good as what I remembered from my childhood back in OK. The steamed veggies and tofu were smothered in this clear sauce that was savory, it looked pretty gross quite honestly. The veggies were good and I'm glad they didn't use baby corn, however the tofu wasn't steamed at all but deep fried. The pork mei fun was okay according to my roommate and it actually had various veggies and eggs in it too. My sis was a fan of the veggie lo mien and I too thought it was tasty as well. Overall, this place isn't the worst but it's still missing an element flavor wise. The ladies here were very nice and the food was brought out fairly quick. Maybe I'll give it another shot. Hong Kong Chinese looks like many other chinese take-out restaurants. They did not provide a statement whether or not they use MSG. The dining room was dirty and they do not provide fountain drinks- only bottles or water in styrofoam cups from a 5 gallon igloo water cooler...Really? My wife ordered the orange chicken and I ordered General Tso's. When we got them on the tray, we could not figure out which was which as they both tasted the same- super sweet and flavorless. My daughter ordered the sweet and sour chicken and that too had a lot of sugar added to the sauce. The fried rice had almost no vegetables in it. The 5 tables were all full and there was a constant stream of people coming in for takeout, so maybe we just ordered the wrong things. For Williamsburg, it is a cheaper dinner option, avoiding the 5% Williamsburg City restaraunt tax. Overall, it was a disappointing chinese food experience. read more

We are here on vacation and ordered our normal amount of food, at least twice what we need, and it was much lower priced than at home in Northern Virginia. The family meal was a great deal. I ordered Chicken Fried Rice and Garlic Pork. I went to pick up the order. The lady at the cash register was luke-warm friendly. What's your telephone number? That was about all regarding conversation or social friendliness. I got home. On a scale of 10, I give the garlic pork a low rating of a 3. Too much sweet red sauce. Low quality cut of pork. Broccoli was drenched in the sweet red sauce, too. I picked out the pork, ate that, and threw the rest into the trash. Most Chinese take-offs do a great job with chicken fried rice. The chicken was sub-par. It did not look fresh. The whole dish looked gray in color. I tasted a bit of the chicken, decided that it was not worth eating and threw it into the trash, also. The two dishes together cost $18.00. It was a great waste of money. I do NOT recommend this place. Down the road by the Farm Fresh Supermarket is Happy Buffet Chinese Restaurant and take out.
