I just moved to Glendora and was looking for an art supply store. I usually go to the art supply warehouse in westminster and was hoping I could find a similar shop... low and behold.... I found Carpe Diem. The store is small and off a highway in some industrial shops. It's not a huge shop but is not limited in what they have. They are also open every other day due to schools being out of session. And they ask for your drivers license when you go in... I'm not sure why... but it is what it is. I think they require student ID if you're a student. They said they gave teacher discounts too but I was not offered anything when I went in. They had everything I needed and more. I like to get copic refills, and they have them behind the counter. I'm sure it's to prevent theft. Michael's and Blick does the same thing. You can find all the painting and illustration supplies you need. They have a selection of craft woods and tools along with clay, etc.... Carpe Diem is my new home base for the art supply. I'll definitely send my design students here and will be back for all my artistic supplies. read more

Received one defective marker - hairline crack inside cap, causes marker to dry out after less than 2 months. Emailed them, and was told too bad - user error. I came here for the first time on but I really don't mind considering that traffic is so unpredictable. I had an awesome experience shopping there that day. Especially after reading the reviews. The employees there are super duper helpful. They really know what they're talking about. They also had good BOGO deals on the spray paints. I got some cool markers too. If the only way they can run their business is by treating customers like they're criminals on probation, they just ought to close. Not allowed to bring in a purse, which is difficult for a lot of adults to manage, then you have to show an ID as soon as you walk in and get glared at as if you're a suspicious character, then employees skulk around not so subtly following you as you shop. Not a smile or a polite word the entire time I shopped. The only upside is they had a good selection of art supplies, which is hard to find nowawadays. But their people skills and protocol are absolutely horrid. I hope I never have to go back there. It's sad that likely all Mt Sac art students get treated like this. read more

Awkward as it made me feel I showed it to her then I asked why they ID "do you guys get alot of trouble here? I said it like in a curious tone showing I care then a guy behind the counter said "we are soon (as in not yet) going to sell to students only" i said oh ok he then added "students keep up open most of our business is from them so we only sell to students are you a student?" I said oh ok no im not a student.... He said " well if youre a student you cant stay if you're not YOU CAN LEAVE!" The way he said it was pretty disrespectful. I gave no attitude so to get such a attitude from them was very off putting. How do you go from telling me "soon will only sell to students " to "you can leave!". if you are not catering to the public I highly suggest you post a sign on your door! I honestly felt like talking some shit to him for being such a ass hole. I just said nothing and walked out.... Zero stars.... I would potentially frequent here and spend good money here.... The store is a little on the small side, but it doesn't get super busy so you don't have to worry about being in close proximity to others. Also, masks are required for entry. They have a huge selection of well-priced writing implements (their Pigma Micron pens go as low as $1!!) for all stationery-lovers. I'd frequent it but it's hard to exercise restraint. Staff here are also super friendly and helpful! I was looking for a replacement for my own (G-2 teal 0.7) and she offered to look online to order one, and also gave suggestions from what they had for a potential replacement. I think I might love my new pen even more than the last... Anyways, if you're in the area I'd definitely stop by! (They also make perfect gifts for any female students you know, as well. So I haven't actually been in the store, but this review is for their laser cutting services. I'm a student and got three sheets of chipboard cut for some contour models for class. The assignment had a super tight turnaround, I only had the files ready in time I interacted with two people (unfortunately I didn't catch their names), one of whom was the owner. They answered my many questions and were able to get the job done very quickly. The actual cuts turned out great and the job was very affordable. I will definitely come to Carpe Diem again for future laser cutting jobs! My only minor complaint is that the website is a little out of date. I actually tried to get the cuts done through their DTLA location, Architect's Corner, and only found out that the laser cut jobs are only processed at the Pomona location until I had talked to them several times. I had to ask my mom very nicely to pick them up for me because I didn't have the spare 2.5 hours to go out to Pomona and back. There's no mention at all of Carpe Diem on the Architect's Corner website that I could see. Also, their dropbox links for the .dwg/dxf templates to help prep your files are broken. read more

Crammed dinky store in the middle of nowhere. The second you walk in there you can feel the "I hate my job" tension thick in the air. I will GIVE THEM the benefit of the doubt because I walked in 5 minutes before closing. HOWEVER... I knew exactly what I wanted, so it was going to be quick. First off, no greeting. When this short girl (Melina, according to receipt) finally asked what I needed I told her and she didn't know what the hell I was talking about. I wanted the Copic lining pens (multiliners). I would have gotten them myself, but they have all the Copics in the back. She was already giving me attitude when I asked for different sizes. Then I asked where they had containers and she took me to the aisle. I took a couple of minutes to consider my choices and grabbed a sketch book. Same girl shows up at the end of the aisle and says, "Can you wrap it up? We are closed." ...What the fudge? "Wrap it up?" Am I your buddy, your homegirl? How is that an acceptable way to speak to a customer?? I. Was. Pissed. I grabbed my stuff and headed out to pay. I was so upset I said to her face that she was rude and needed to work on her choice of words. So rude. Ugh!! EDIT: Soooo guess what? As an on and off art student, I've "carpe diemed" my wallet plenty of times at this place. If you take art seriously, whether it'd be in fine art, illustration, conceptual art or even digital art, you MUST go to this place - I'd grab you by the shoulders and shake you while I'm saying that but I digress... The materials aren't cheap (no surprise) but the variety of tools, from monster electronic tablets to a wide assortment of pencils, markers, and different forms of paper make this the go-to place for all your art related needs. A "Michaels" this is not. It also helps that the people who run the store seem like artists themselves and are very knowledgeable about not only the things they sell but the things particular art students need. I have been going to this store for the past two and a half years now and all the 1-3 star reviews don't really make sense to me. The owner really cares about his clients. I have midterm Architecture model due on Monday and I went to him today for laser cuts, they close at 2 on Saturdays (they didn't even used to be open on weekends at all) and my cuts are taking longer than that so the owner is doing them past close so I can get my model done on time. He even mentioned how they are getting a new laser cutting machine and are trying to work out late night laser cutting services during future finals weeks. I'm not sure of the name of the main part time worker but she is so nice and helpful. I have gone to her multiple times not knowing quite how to work a project out material wise and she always helps me figure out what to get. As cheesy as it might be it feels like family there. I don't think you can even complain about prices, they are around normal price. If you even know anything about art, you know how much money can add up when buying supplies. This place is a specialty store. It is incredibly difficult to operate a specialty store like this one while competing in a narrow market with the likes of Amazon and Blick and Michael's. The prices may be slightly higher (because they have to be when running such a small operation) and the space might be cramped, but they do an excellent job of keeping things tidy and reasonably well stocked. A place like this is a gem if you can take your head out of your entitled butt for a few seconds to appreciate it. (I'm talking to you whiney one star reviews) read more

This craft shop always burn a hole in my wallet. My monies fly and my wallet cries after every visit. I have a love hate relationship with this store. I love how they provide just enough variety of supplies I need for my architecture models that I can not find anywhere else nearby. But everything is just SO OVERPRICED I feel like they seriously take advantage of us--large population of architectural students at Cal Poly Pomona-- and charge us way more for each material we buy because we need it and Carpe Diem is close by when we have deadlines coming up. My suggestion is to avoid this place if you can. Blick and Michaels sells certain things (like foam core sometimes) for way less. But if you have a deadline and you need the supplies, then Carpe Diem is your best bet and may save your life. read more

Doing my senior thesis in industrial design I needed a some acrylic laser cut. I spoke to three of the staff there and they seem to have trouble understanding the concept of a tight fit tolerance for puzzle pieces. I had to make four trips down to correct their mistakes. I ended up paying $43 and they still did not get it right. Now I'm late for my review and $43 dollars down. I've used many laser cutting stores in the past and this is by far the worst. read more

As an architecture student at cal poly this place has been a godsend. This place is tiny and cramped but its packed with virtually all you need for any art project you may have. Prices are way better than Michaels and they are never tampered with. Their selection of paints are a little limited but otherwise its a one stop shop for what you need. Mkay. This is why you should never buy from Ma&Pop stores after they've outgrown their bloomers. 1. Horrendous customer service 2. Navigating their website is a disaster, it looks like it was designed by a hoarder its so cluttered and nasty 3. They will take 50 years to go through your order and even start to process it and then take 700 years and give 1000 excuses for why it hasn't shipped. 4. They use Paypal without even giving you a chance to log in. If you should have to get a refund look for it to take upwards of a week. 5. Apparently no one works at their store. It will take you 90 emails and about 45 calls just to speak to someone. Other places to avoid would be The Architect's Corner Store....... Apparently its the same company. IDK maybe they had to open a second site to hide their shame? At any rate. I've reported them to the BBB, Paypal, Bosto, and Copic. p.s. Carpe Diem is located on a major street and nestled in an industrial area. If I didn't know it was there, I would completely miss it. I've actually driven by many times and never knew it was there. For a tiny store, they have a lot of stuff that I really enjoy. They seem to have a lot of architecture books and a good amount of supplies. First year ARCH student getting a laundry list of supplies and from the comparece shopping I did online, CD was a great and convenient option. I'm sure it will be more expensive for me as I continue, but this first package I purchased here was extremely generous in terms of price. There was some confusion in ordering, but I found the owner to be very accommodating and helpful. I appreciated the honesty in his communication. As far as the location goes: it's a small warehouse store. You'll miss it if you aren't paying attention, so just slow down when approaching the curb on Valley. Selection: I'm just starting with this branch of my major, so I'm not sure what the pricing usually is like for this kind of material, but I found that their selection was full, wide, and really up to date. This place clearly has a specialty clientele that they cater to, and it shows. Service: Employee on the phone initially (female) not super helpful, but the owner intervened eventually and fixed the issues and even let me come in on a day the store was closed. There's quite a bit of paint and art supplies in this tiny store in the midst of a warehouse area close by Cal Poly Pomona/Mt.Sac. One can easily miss it if driving too fast by this non-descript plaza. The owner or manager was helpful. I was looking for a metal (painting) stand but there wasn't any at the store, as I thought there might be since I saw a good selection on their website. The guy asked me to go onto their website to see which one I'd want and call him at the L.A. store so that he'll bring it back to Pomona the next day for me bc he was heading out there that day. I didn't call him back bc I found a less expensive one on Amazon; since I wasn't in a hurry to get one; but it was helpful and nice of him to offer. If I need to get more art supplies, I'll visit their website (first) again for a myriad selection of goodies. read more

Carpe Diem is the worst customer service I have ever been with. Called every day for the past 4 days, left messages and everything. They sent me a marker that has NO INK in it. Terrible customer service. They have a no return policy, which is ridiculous in the year 2015. I attempted to exchange a sketch pad the next day, since I didn't realize it didn't have perforated edges. They took 25% my return for edges that were "bent." Told me I "should've taken better care of it." In reality, the edges were at a slight curl, no more than the ones on the shelf. If they were to place it at the bottom of the stack, it would be perfectly flat. Don't support these people, go to Blick instead. They have a better return policy. read more
