Ambiance: it's a small izakaya place located on the second floor of a shared plaza for restaurants Service: friendly staff and although a bit slow, also had to remind to refill the water Food: their menu has a variety of skewers and plenty of combo items Sashimi Teishoku - **** served with with rice, miso soup, Cold Tofu, Green Salad, and potato salad, tuna, salmon, and toro, very fresh fish and tasty miso soup with seaweed, recommend Beef Skewer - ** so dry Pork Belly - *** average Beef Tongue - * very rubbery Chicken & Onion - *** average Chicken Meatball - *** average Edamame - *** average Ahi Poke - **** fresh, recommend Grilled Musubi - *** crispy but flavorless Price: small portions and relatively pricey, overall disappointing quality, especially skewers, expect $35 per person, they have surcharge for credit card payment

Came to Carp Dori on a Thursday night at 9PM, and there was lots of parking in the open lot. There was no wait to be seated, even though we didn't have reservations. I wasn't super hungry, so I liked how they had small portions of everything. I tried some of the karaage chicken and the bacon wrapped mushroom. Both were flavorful and hit the spot for a light meal. I also got a chuhi, which was delicious and served in a generous sized mug. I tried the various flavors that my friends ordered, and lemon was one of my favorites. Service was friendly and attentive. I would love to come back here to try more of their items!

Evening HH @ 5-6:45 pm $5 sapporo + discounted apps . This solo round I was seated at the countertop fronting the bar/kitchen. Naturally, the tv had a 日本のgame show on. Around 5ish the shop was still empty - which I loved knowing I had beaten the dinner crowd. My order: - Yakitori set = (1 ea) beef, beef tongue, pork, chicken onion, chicken meatball, n some edamame ($17) - 2 Bacon wrapped enoki - HH: tako wasabi, kimchi, ビール . If you're looking for cheap eats - this isn't ur place. But if you're craving savory grilled meats, 日本 vibes, hearty okonomiyaki, and a comfortable place to wind down that isn't quite mainstream -- Carp Dori is da spot. She's a cozy izakaya of countertops, wooden table sets, and quality skewers (: . cheers!

New maki maki set. Sticks vary by day. Chives were a little chewy and got stuck in my teeth. Okra was too seedy. Beans were ok. Eoki mushrooms were great. Nice to try, but I would probably stick to ordering my favorites next time.

Food here is pretty tasty and authentic though in order to be full, it's expensive because you have to pay per screwer. For 3 adults it came out to about $80 a person!!! Because of the price I did not think it was worth it, especially because service was terrible. The biggest downside about the service is that we were never checked on and never had waters refilled. This was especially a problem because the food is salty, and I was dying for water and could never get their attention. For the price, I expect my waters to be refilled and to be checked on. Pros: Sashimi was super fresh. The Ume and Shiso wrapped meats were unique compared to other screwer places and very unique. Cons: rice balls were supposed to be crispy, but they were super mushy. Edamame was way overcooked. Service was super slow and never checked on us. All in all, I don't think I would come back because of the value.

Service was good and food was delivered quickly. The yakitori was good but the sauce was not as flavorful. I liked the beef tongue the best. The salad was pretty good with an onsen egg inside. They still have the bell at the table to call for the waiter.

food, the service, to the cozy Japanese-style vibe. We're all about the grilled skewers here the chicken skins, bacon wrapped enoki mushrooms, sausage, grilled corn, and asparagus were all so ono. So much flavor in every bite! They've also got a solid menu with shabu shabu hot pot, sizzling hot pan dishes, ramen noodles, and more perfect for sharing with friends or fam. My son can't stop talking about the watercress salad with Japanese sesame dressing light, fresh and super tasty. The atmosphere feels like a little piece of Japan warm lighting, cool decor and such a welcoming crew. We noticed how they even greet new customers walking in makes you feel right at home. If you're looking for a chill, delicious spot with that comforting izakaya energy, Carp Dori is the one. :))

Teishoku sides

Every time I come here I am transported back to Japan with the friendly staff vibes and variety of options for food at an amazing quality! I usually come here at night time so it's too late to get the lunch special, but I was finally able to try it! The amount of food you get is well worth the $18.99! This visit we got the Yakiniku Teishoku, Sashimi Teishoku and assorted skewers with Hamachi Sashimi. The Sashimi Teishoku is great value with 6 pieces of sashimi ( 2 salmon, 2 ahi, 2 hamachi). The Yakiniku Teishoku has meat and onions. All Teishoku sets come with miso soup, rice, side salad, potato salad and egg. I recommend the Asparagus, Mushrooms, chicken skin, Miso Pork & Shiso, and Chicken with Ume for the Yakitori options!

Amazing amazing amazing! Food, service & everything was TOP TIER! My husband & I came to mccully to go to our usual sushi spot but they were closed. We stumbled upon this place and it was so goood. It was my husband's first time trying yakitori. We came for lunch and they had teishoku lunch specials that came with miso soup, rice, side salad, potato salad & tofu for $18.99 (such a good deal)! The server was also super friendly and I give him props for being the only server, making the drinks, cleaning tables, making the food and checking out customers. Although it was busy & he didn't show that he was having a hard time. He was very very nice. I really enjoyed my lunch here and would love to come again! Everything was sooo good

I reviewed this place before and I wanted to update it! I called ahead this time and they said there would be seating available. Husband and I wanted meat and thankfully this place was open. The menu is extensive! We agreed on mainly getting yakitori instead of venturing into the other menu items but my husband wanted the chicken skin. It was moderately crispy but a little tough at times. Our skewers were beef, pork, chicken meatball, minced chicken, enoki bacon, pork belly tomato, and chicken and onion. Our top favorites were the chicken onion, minced chicken, and the meatball. For me the beef was tough, the pork was so good but salty, and enoki was nice but as usual sometimes hard to eat. Service was moderately good despite the busy place. I loved the seating as we got a booth this time instead of the counter. Husband told me to give an extra star for the bidet bathroom. :) Honestly the worst part about this place is the parking. No knock on the restaurant but it's always too congested.

Chicken with wasabi
Richelle K.

Cozy Japanese skewer restaurant. Flavor of the beef was great but found it to be a little tough and cold (hence the rating) I'm guessing it may have been sitting a bit before served to us. However, I found the pork belly was very juicy and chicken with cheese very yummy! My boyfriend really liked the chicken with wasabi. Servers were nice and attentive, overall a very pleasant dinner.

I was so excited to come here as 3 of our friends highly recommended this spot. Great food and reasonable prices is what they told us. My mom and I love yakitori as we used to always go eat it when we lived in Japan. We ordered the lunch special with yakitori, tofu, rice and miso soup. It came with 4 skewers and the only yakitori that I liked was the Tsukune which was super flavorful. The beef yakitori was dry and tough with no flavor. The chicken one did not have enough salt and we were pretty disappointed. Rice was dry and seemed like was sitting in the cooker for over a day. We did not eat the rice. The ambience here is cool. I love Japanese baseball and the place looked so promising but unfortunately missed the mark.

Hubby and I decided to stop by here for dinner after a workshop. They were quite busy. This place was really.noisy tonight. The food was okay this time around. Hubby got the Tempura Value Set and Hiroshima Ramen. The Tempura was too greasy so we took it home to air fry some of the oil out. He liked the Hiroshima Ramen. I got the Paitan Shoyu Ramen. It was really salty. I only ate the ramen and did not drink the soup. I kept drinking water when I got home. Maybe those was an off day for the chef. We enjoyed the food here before and will definitely come back. The staff are very nice and service was great.

Don't go without a reservation even mid week or even at opening. Reservations are only made by calling the restaurant on the phone.

I wish we ordered more tempura because it was so perfectly cooked. We got the sweet potato and squid tempura, with the sweet potato being my pick for must-have when coming here. The staff look super happy and were very accommodating! We saw 4 different people bring plates, gave us recommendations on the salt/tempura sauce combos for the tempura. I know you guys drive by it and see it but have you dined in? If not, this is your sign. My friends and I walked in around 8pm and got seated right away. The place was packed (as it should be) but we were so lucky. The waiter took us to the back room where we sat on those "floor" tables... it was awesome! I felt like I was in Japan. Service was 10/10. Waiter gave us GREAT recommendations as it was our first time. Let's talk about the food. My top 3 dishes of the night -- 1) Uni charwanmushi - to DIE for. So much flavor, so much protein. 2) the beef skewers - incredibly tender. We ended up ordering another order bc it was so good. 3) sushi- Negitoro, torotaku, spider roll and spicy tuna... the rice and fish texture was just so perfect. The fish tasted fresh and the rice to fish ratio was a 10/10. Ambiance: chill, friendly, not too loud and everyone was so respectful. I'm craving it as I type this. So yeah, check it out. We ordered the top sushi platter but unfortunately she didn't understand and made the mistake of bringing us a different one. It was fine for I ordered a bunch of side dishes. My parents and friend enjoyed almost everything. I think the three items I enjoyed the most were the yuzu pickled vegetables, the yuzu sorbet and the chicken karaage. Those stood out the most for me. For the whole experience it was rather enjoyable still how I remembered it used to be. There is ample parking in the back if you come early or street parking. It was a little difficult with someone with a walker but slowly we moved in and out so just need patience. Pricing was what I was are used to going out to eat sushi nowadays. I think they were supposed to give us a special dessert for I asked ahead of time and it wasn't brought. Inside is smallish with the usual izakaya bar style set up and decor with the dark wood and dark tones, but maybe more toned down than a true izakaya. Comfortable, plain, and simple. Menu is pretty confusing and not the clearest, but it's mainly their fresh fish and seafood that are the main attractions. You just gotta figure out what they are cause it's only listed in Japanese and Romanized Japanese. They do have some interesting choices though after a thorough search. Started with Spicy Tuna Roll was very good. Nicely seasoned and prepared sushi rice, neatly rolled with fresh chunks of tuna. $11.50. Spicy Konnyaku was decent. A little light on the seasoning, but not too bad. $4.50. The Chicken Cartilage Karaage was a surprise! Crispy, crunchy, and nicely seasoned. So good. We ordered it twice! $8.50. OH! Toro (Premium Fatty Tuna), 4 pieces sashimi, $42.00. Fresh, melt in your mouth, and nicely presented. Aburi OH! Toro nigiri had a nice char/smoky flavor - equally as good as the sashimi. $13.50. The A5 Mizayaki Beef Sushi with Foie Gras nigiri was amazing! Fresh, melt in your mouth A5 with rich, unctuous Foie gras that was nicely charred and seasoned. $14.00. Grilled Beef Tongue was excellent. Thick cut, tender, nicely seasoned and prepared. Onions garnish went very well adding a nice punch. $14.50. The Uni Shiso Cucumber wrapped with Hirame was a unique combination. Fresh, firm hirame; rich, oceanic uni; bright, herbaceous Shiso; crunchy cucumber. $35.00 - 4 pieces. The Uni Truffle Butter Egg Yolk Rice was okay. It wasn't as rich or as decadent as I'd imagined, especially with uni, egg yolk, and butter noted. A bit too much rice compared to the amount of uni to be able to fully enjoy the richness. Perhaps less rice? Which might lead to a lower price than the $29.00? Corn Karaage was okay. Flavor was one note. It was just corn with miso paste and coated with starch and deep fried to temp. Some seasoning would go a long way. $6.50 for 5 short pieces. Hamachi Carpaccio was good. Fresh fish, flavorful soy-vinegar sauce with complementing toppings (olive oil, sea grapes, grape tomato, onion slices, and Tobikko). $21.00. New Zealand King Salmon Nigiri was very good! Melt in your mouth with a smooth and buttery texture. The Deep Fried Octopus was okay. Slightly toothsome, nicely battered and fried, but very light on the seasoning. Needed the salt to balance the tart ponzu. Overall, a solid meal with fresh, quality ingredients, and everything was nicely prepared and beautifully presented. Decent sake selection, but only two beer choices. The menu had many fish selections, but if you don't know what they are in romanized Japanese, you'll need to search it, which took a bit of time for the decision-maker. Staff was very friendly and attentive in the beginning, but it got busy and it became less. It's a bit pricey, which was expected and known. Uosan feels more of a sashimi restaurant than an izakaya, but that won't stop me from coming back to try more sashimi!

This restaurant will always hold a special place in our hearts…read more We first visited in 2025 during a trip to Oahu that ended with our engagement. We were staying at the Romer House and didn't have dinner plans, so we wandered into 855-Aloha. While we were looking over the menu, Matteo (the General Manager at the time) came over, welcomed us, and encouraged us to stay despite the wait. He then walked behind the bar, poured us two complimentary glasses of champagne, and invited us to relax while we waited for our table. That simple gesture set the tone for an incredible evening and was our first glimpse of the genuine hospitality this restaurant is known for. After that trip, we started planning our wedding and decided there was no better place than Oahu for a destination wedding. When it came time to plan our rehearsal dinner, 855-Aloha was one of the first places we reached out to. A few months later, while visiting Waikiki with my parents, we stopped in to show them the restaurant where we celebrated our engagement. Tanden, the Events Manager at the time, greeted us and, to our surprise, remembered me by name. He gave my parents a tour of the space and insisted we stay for a drink. Moments like that made us feel like more than just another reservation--they made us feel genuinely valued. Booking our rehearsal dinner here was an easy decision. Throughout the planning process, there was quite a bit of turnover within the events team. Every coordinator we worked with was warm, accommodating, and wonderful, with one exception. When we explored the possibility of extending our evening with a welcome party at Lei Stand after dinner, we found the experience with Samantha Molzer frustrating. The conversations felt unusually rigid, and instead of collaborating on options, we often felt reminded of policies and qualifications. Ultimately, we decided to host our welcome party across the street at Green Lady Cocktail Room, where the process felt more flexible and better suited to what we were looking for. (Ultimately the unreasonably firm quote she had given us did not make any sense. After our rehearsal dinner we still wandered over to the lei stand for a drink before heading over to our welcome party at another location and there were all of 4 guests in the entire bar. They probably would have profited greatly from hosting us!) Thankfully, Lisa stepped in to coordinate our event, and she and the entire team absolutely knocked it out of the park. Our rehearsal dinner was everything we had hoped for and more. The service was attentive, the food was fantastic, and every detail was thoughtfully executed. What stood out most, though, was the team's kindness. I had gotten sick a few days into our trip and still wasn't feeling well enough to eat much on the night of our rehearsal. I asked one of the servers if there happened to be any soup on the menu. They apologized that there wasn't, but then told me they had everything needed to make fresh miso soup from scratch if I didn't mind waiting a few minutes. Within minutes, they brought me a warm bowl of homemade miso soup. It was such a small gesture, but one I'll never forget. That level of care and hospitality is exactly what makes people return to a restaurant time and time again. Thank you to Lisa and the entire team for helping make such an important milestone in our lives even more special. We'll always look back on 855-Aloha with incredibly fond memories.

3 stars for a beautiful hotel restaurant at the Romer…read more I was disappointed by this choice. The restaurant has strong marketing, but ultimately it feels like a low-value hotel spot. I wish we had opted for Le Petit Chef inside the same hotel instead. While the space is beautiful and the service was warm--including a sweet complimentary ice cream treat for my son--the dining room was entirely empty, which was an early red flag. The menu variety is limited, portions are small, and prices are high for mediocre food. * Avocado Maki Roll ($12.00) - 3 stars Seasoned sushi rice wrapped in nori with fresh sliced avocado. Beautiful presentation, but very basic. My kids loved them, though there was nothing particularly special about the execution. * Fried Egg Rolls ($14.00) - 2 stars Crispy rolls stuffed with seasoned pork and vegetables, served with dipping sauce. Below average and uninspiring. Dry casing with limited flavor profile. * Mochiko Fried Chicken ($20.00) - 4 stars Local-style crisp fried chicken marinated in garlic, soy, and sweet rice flour batter. The highlight of the meal. Crispy coating on the outside, juicy on the inside, and seasoned well. * Yakisaoba Noodles ($22.00)- 3.5/5 Stir-fried wheat noodles tossed with seasonal vegetables and savory dark soy sauce. A step above frozen instant noodles due to a nice chew and texture, but the flavor itself was quite mediocre and the portion was small. * Kimchi Fried Rice ($18.00) - 3.5 stars Pan-fried jasmine rice with aged kimchi, aromatic spices, and green onions. Pretty average rendition. Decent flavor balance, but nothing memorable. * Kalbi Short Ribs ($28.00) - 2.5 stars Marinated Korean-style grilled beef short ribs with sweet soy and garlic reduction. Lacked juiciness and flavor depth. Plated deceptively to make the portion look much larger than it actually was. * Charred Broccolini ($12.00) - 2.5 stars Seared broccolini with garlic oil, lemon, and sea salt. Standard side vegetable. Nothing notable and definitely not worth reordering.

The beef tataki and albacore tataki were both incredible, and the stir fried Shanghai noodles were another standout. Everything we ordered was seriously good. Great food, great people, cool atmosphere, and easily one of the best local date spots we've found in Waikiki. Definitely feels more like a local gem than a tourist spot. We'll absolutely be back. Boom! 5 stars

Much better experience this time around! More char! More flavor!…read more Walked in and was lucky to be seated. Super loud night! Started with the Beef Tataki. Fresh, tender slices of beef topped with bright raw onion, pungent garlic, and a flavorful sauce. The Teriyaki Fried Corn was very good! Excellent char, tender corn, and tasty sauce. The Chicken Gizzard was awesome! This was the tastiest dish of the meal! Gizzard was tender, savory, and garlicky. The Yakitori was much better this time. The U.S. Wagyushu was the favorite. Large, tender, juicy pieces. Nicely seasoned. Chicken Thigh with Green Onion was tare style, which helped with the slightly dry chicken thigh. Pork Mushroom, Chicken Thigh, Pork Jowl were shio style. If you don't choose the style, it's just the chef's usual choice. Shio/salt tends to be more on the dry side when there's not enough oil. The pork belly wrapped mushroom was very good - rich, satisfying pork belly with earthy, juicy mushroom is a good combo! The thighs and jowls were okay. A bit on the dry side and not as tender. Bonus: the Mango and Yuzu draft beer were dangerously good!! Glad I had the opportunity to come try Tori Ton again! Excellent, friendly service. Solid food. Can't wait to come back again!
