Everything was great. Service, overall vibe, food, drinks - all wonderful! My friend and I had a great time. Some dishes you must order: Motsunabe, salt & pepper wings, breaded horse mackerel, potato salad. Great place but the price does add up quickly!

Food is delicious. Staff is so nice and friendly. I want to come back again. Danji is from Kyushu Danji. It means Kyushu Man.

Delicious! Spectacular! Major vibes. A small and cute restaurant in Honolulu that is great for hang outs with friends and casual dates. The employees are amazing and very attentive to ensuring you get great food and filled drinks. This place gives options for small bites and everything is shareable. All their dishes with mentai is amazing. Highly recommend the unagi skewers, Danji omelets, chicken nanban, fried corn, lotus root mentai, mentai spaghetti, grilled pigs feet, and a pitcher of asahi. So good and highly recommend!

Had dinner with two other friends at this izakaya. Upon entering this small and intimate restaurant, we were greeted Japanese style "irashaimasu!"and I immediately felt welcome. My host had dined there before and ordered the motsu nabe, which is a hot pot, with pork belly soup. Then we ordered additional items to go into the broth. The ceramic bowl was filled with our items and placed on a table-top propane burner. A cover was placed on top so that the items could boil for a few minutes. While we waited for the motsu nabe to cook our food, we ordered edamame, cold tofu, egg omelette, salad, fried oysters, uni croquettes, and French fries. The pupus (appetizers) went well with the whiskey highball, Sapporo beer and non-alcoholic mango cocktails that we had. It all came out very tasty and was especially perfect for a cold, rainy night in October. I was super full by the end of the evening but my host insisted that we try the udon. The fresh noodles went into the broth and we finished our meal drinking the broth and eating the udon. By then I was officially in a food coma.

Nice neighborhood izakaya. Good food and a nice selection of drinks and sake. The nice part is they don't rush you to leave. The chicken wings, grilled corn, gyoza.

We were craving izakaya and decided on trying this spot. The parking lot was very small but we were able to score a stall. The restaurant has a cool ambiance with japanese decor. There were lots of options to choose from so we ordered everything and shared. The service was attentive and quick and the food was delicious! Would highly recommend checking this izakaya spot!

Danji is a nice cozy place to go to when it's late and would like to get something to eat. I like to eat the tan tan udon. My friends tried several other dishes and said they were good. The waitresses always check at least once while dining to see if everything's all right.

This place is one of my favorite izakayas on the island! It's pretty small inside with a couple tables, booths, and bar seating so make sure to call ahead for a reservation. They have a small lot with 5-6 spots and street parking as well. The many times I've been here, their food quality and taste has always been consistent. My all time favorites are the cream croquettes, ankimo (monkfish liver), eihire (dried stingray fin), chicken nanban, egg omelette, and gyoza! Everything is simple, yet flavorful. Drinks are also pretty good. Service is excellent and staff are friendly.

As far as food goes, Izakaya Danji was great! We got the scallop sashimi (delicious and sweet), boiled squid in a shoyu sauce (took a while to cook squid at table but was delicious), takana fried rice (#1 dish of the night), chicken karaage (good), and cream croquette (mid). We enjoyed the food with a chu hi and glass of white wine, honestly I could see people drinking and eating these pupu size dishes all night. The ambiance was nice and the staff were great, waving us goodbye at the door. Would recommend, this was a good izakaya experience on Oahu. My only gripe would be the pricing. Because it's an izakaya, the dishes are on the smaller side, which usually would result in lowers prices per dish, but theirs was a little pricey.

Great service and ono food! The fried chicken and mentaiko spaghetti was do delish! Actually everything I had has been really good so far. Only thing that sucks is parking. But if you are lucky, you can get parking in the lot. It is an Izakaya feeling in there. It's good to share food, have some drinks and enjoy time with the people you are with!!

Been here twice and they have some great food! Everything we ate the most recent time was delicious. Tako wasabi was perfect wasabi amount. Scallop sashimi was fresh and good texture. The shishamo was good and enjoyed it with the kewpie mayo. The best thing was the motsunabe. The motsu was good quality and we enjoyed the wafu dashi broth. Would like to try it with the tonkotsu broth next time. The nabe also had chives, gobo, tofu, and slices of mochi. Can't wait to come back here !

They have shared parking lot with the surrounding establishments which was fairly open since it was so late (I think they were the only one open by that time). We were able to get seated fairly quickly (bar seating style, not individual tables, although they have a few of those as well). This spot is decently small but they seem to fit everyone in fairly efficiently. Upon seating we were given menus and waters after. The waiters are decently attentive since we were seated right by their kitchen/back of house opening. We got: * Chicken Karaage: 10/10, I would heavily recommend this. The chicken was juicy and lightly crispy. What MADE this dish was actually the egg sauce on top. It acts as the aioli but clearly much more homemade and heathier, with egg white pieces and the sauce made of egg yolk etc. We ordered this twice bc it smacked. * Taco Rice: 7/10, okay so... I'm not even going to lie when I say that I was a bit tipsy already when I agreed on ordering this. I THOUGHT this was a TAKO (octopus) rice. NOT a TACO (Mexican) rice. It tasted like I was eating taco bell, which wasn't bad per se but just felt weird being in an izakaya. * Beef Tongue: 9/10. I would recommend this as well. The beef tongue was tender and flavorful. They didn't go overboard with the sauce on top to let the meat shine through. * Seared Aburi: 8/10. The person I was with order it. It was good, no strong feelings about it. It was cool to watch them sear it though. It was on the fishy-er side tho, compared to other forms of sashimi (likely due to the skin still present). * Hot Sake: I would recommend this if you don't enjoy drinking. While its hot/warm, it helps it go down a lot more! Honestly I enjoyed the fried chicken so much I would actually come back just to eat that and maybe try some of their other dishes. Plus the izakaya experience definitely felt really authentic as it was bustling when we visited.

I've been a fan of this place for a while, so it genuinely hurts to write this. The food itself?…read moreHighlights for sure -- the tacorice in the stone bowl was excellent, the hamachi with eggplant was a standout, and the rafute, while a bit dry, still had its moments. The kitchen is clearly talented. But everything else? A real disappointment. The server was cold and unfriendly the entire visit. The larger tables of four around us were getting great, attentive service -- smiles, check-ins, the works. But when she dropped food at our table? Not even a word. It felt pretty obvious that since the bigger tables had an automatic 20% tip guaranteed, our table just wasn't worth the effort to her. And that's exactly the problem with sneaking an auto-gratuity in fine print at the bottom of the menu -- it creates exactly this kind of situation. If the service had been genuinely good, I would have happily tipped 20% on my own. But to have it quietly tacked on after being largely ignored? That feels sneaky and disrespectful. This place used to be a go-to for me. Today really dropped the ball. Be upfront about the tip policy and treat every table like it matters -- because to the customer, it always does.

My fiance won a gift card actually 2 of them (from his coworker whom could not get a reservation secured), we knew we had to make the trip over before they officially close. We ordered the short ribs, lobster appetizer, hamachi crudo and lastly sashimi moriawase to finish food palate. Lukki lemon dessert was great way to end to night. Ordered the Milk tea bouquet cocktail while my better half had water ( either way the food coma knock him out cold the rest of the night lol). To be honest, it was difficult to determine which dish was the best because the staff kept quality there despite it being busy every night since they announce the closure. Sashimi moriawase, fish was so fresh, reminded me of my time spent in Hokkaido and Sapporo. Short ribs was soft and rich in flavor.
