I haven't been to this Carney's to eat in quite some time, but I do plan on grabbing lunch or dinner here very soon and I'll tell you why. Do they have the yummy snap hot dogs and tasty chili - yes! but the real reason is the staff. I wanted to send a very special thank you, and huge amount of appreciation to the worker who was bringing umbrellas out on Monday of this week. I walk by here every morning on my morning walk and I'd spotted an injured red tail hawk on the outdoor patio of Jerry's Deli/Pinz a little ways down. I was of course distraught, as I am when any animal appears to not be doing well. I knew Carney's was closed since it was 8A in the morning so I walked to Coffee Bean and was going to ask for a shallow bowl of water - their line was so long and that's when I began walking back towards Carney's. I spotted a staff member out front and asked him if he'd be able to get me a small shallow low bowl of water and told him I needed to bring it to this injured hawk down the road. No questions asked! This man went and got me exactly what I asked for. It was a very cold morning and I was all bundled up, he could have written me off as some wacky talking about a bird down the road (maybe he did! lol) but nonetheless, he helped me help the bird. For this service alone, I want to give Carney's business ASAP! If you like hot dogs or chili dogs, please have yourself a fun little lunch or dinner on their very cute train. I quickly walked down Ventura carrying the bowl of water trying not to spill it and was able to get it to the injured bird and call my son to help me find the correct place to call - East Valley animal shelter services who were able to dispatch someone to come pick up the bird and have it seen by their vet. I told my bestie I'd never have gone through this for an injured pigeon and he insisted I would, since I go around saving caterpillars and bees on the sidewalk. The restaurant is a train so it is a bit snug inside. You should not sit inside the restaurant if you are claustrophobic. I went down the rabbit hole on Youtube with the cooking vids. I saw one claiming to show, how to make the world's best chili dog. When I think of great chili dogs (and chili cheese burgers) I think of Carney's. So that's where I went. Nothing says surviving-a-pandemic, better than good old fashioned comfort food - and Carney's has it. Their employees are all decked out with masks, gloves and plastic barriers so everything is up to corona-code. Social distancing is also in full affect so customers can feel safe and confident. The service was quick and friendly and everything was properly packed to take home. They will also take your food out to you in your car. In addition to the classics, Carney's has some new items on the menu which I didn't know about. They now have a variety of salads, wraps, sandwiches and soft tacos (is this stuff new or have they had this on the menu for a while and I never realized it?) We tired the Chicken Soft Taco and the Chicken Bowtie Pasta Salad - both were good enough to order again. However, nothing beats the Classic Chili Dog or the Chili-Cheese Burger. Both were outstanding as usual, even in a pandemic. If you're in the area, stop by Carney's and given them some love. Their food is still great even if you have to eat it at home. BTW, I got all the fixings to make "The World's Best Chili Dog" and gave it a shot. Large lot with lots of parking connect to a large lot for Staples and some street parking in front and behind. The staff including the owner and at least one of his sons are amazing, always polite, fast and hardworking. The ladies working are exceptional and always very friendly to me.
