I've been to Carney's several times, most recently today! They have a really cool promotion for the new Minions movie decorating the iconic train car open since 1975! I had to pop by for the cuteness and good eats Carney's is right along the Sunset Strip and has it's own small, free parking lot ~ a total win. They have seats inside the train car but also a few picnic tables outside for dining, as well. The staff here is superb. So friendly and efficient, the way they get through the always long line and just move so fast is a master class on service. Chili is one of their signature items here which you can get alone, on the burger, on the hot dog, even on the fries! And goodness do they give you a heaping portion. Now I don't love chili so I'm always on their other items. They do patty style burgers which I like and also great hot dogs. They serve them in the softest non-poppy seed bun ever and are enjoyable. I like their cheese fries, too, though I can never finish them. The chocolate chip cookies are $2.50 and so soft & gooey just the way I like them. I was getting my kids out of my car gonna go in to order and got threatened with getting my car towed for taking a minute to get my kids out the car I pulled in went inside to see the menu and went back out to grab my kids n as im walking up to go back inside im told their gonna tow my car Still ordered cuss the kids n food. Confession: I'm a huge fan of Illuminations' Minion franchise + I'm a sucker for experiential pop-ups. So we decided to indulge in some greasy burgers, fries, and chili dogs at Carney's on Sunset. We arrived close to opening time and avoided the crazy lunch rush. Ordering was pretty simple, but somehow things got a bit screwy. Must've been some Minions in the kitchen to blame for the order shenanigans. Our food came out separately so the three of us didn't get to eat at the same time. Also, our order wasn't quite right so they had to remake it. Despite the food snafu, the turkey Carney's chili dog was tasty. However, I'm not so sure it was turkey per my order. The dog could've had more onions on top and the tomatoes would've been better diced, but it's classic Carney's food so we went with it. My kiddo loved his cheeseburger and the fries were OK. I used to work just up the street from Carney's and it was our go-to lunch stop before payday when our budget was tight. Back before Covid, it was a decent lunch for under $10. It's still pretty OK priced for the times and the food is filling--with or without the Minions for the backdrop. I remember the sticky tables even back then. Well, some things never change. The menu featured their standard Chocolate-dipped BANANA for the Minions. However, it would've been nice to see a more customized menu and some of the thematic decor on the inside. Lunch in a train car!!! First time going to Carney's, but not the last time. There are a good number of tables, even if it is packed, it seems like tables open up all of the time. And with a great, elevated view of Sunset. There is parking, some of the spots are a bit tight, but there are a good amount of spots. There is a lot of history on the walls, definitely a classic restaurant. And restrooms you do not need a code for. If the door is locked, someone is in there. The restaurant is clean and full of character. The menu is small, but well thought out with dogs and sausages, as well as burgers, salads and wraps. I have been wanting a thick burger for a while, everything seems to be a smash burgers right now.... This hit the spot. Thick and juicy quality meat and not over cooked. I got the half pound burger, med rare. With a New York style turkey dog for my partner. Split the train wreck fires and we were stuffed. The burger was well cooked, not dry at all. Very substantial. The turkey dog does take a bit longer to cook, but was told that it was worth it. It was cooked well and was full of flavor. Ya gotta love Carney's. Ya just gotta. A train car loitering on a curve of the Sunset Strip, dishing up Chili Cheeseburgers and Fries like heart disease is still undiscovered. The harshness of the fluorescent lights against the white walls, the aromatic steam rising up from the grill packed with burgers and chicken and onions, the cashier who sends soda cup lids gliding through the air from one hand to his other like a Frisbee hanging on the breeze. It's the epitome of L.A. fast food heaven, with a broader, more varied menu than the other similar places around town, and I've always liked it more than Tommy's. At first glance, the thin burger patties and chili seem interchangeable with that other venerable burger stop, but I think the quality is better at Carney's. Yes, the meat tastes better. The chili also appears very similar, but is actually not as greasy (aka easier on the tummy). Fries are definitely better: thin shoestrings cooked to order and served hot out of the fryer naked, letting you add as much or as little salt as you like. Though I also like chili fries, I order my chili on the side, so it's a neater, one dip at a time affair, which also keeps the fries crispier for longer. Tonight, as always, I ordered a Cheeseburger with just Chili. My wife, however, orders hers exactly as advertised, with chili, mustard, tomato and pickles. Both were hot off the grill, tasty and satisfying. Our order of fries was, indeed, quite crispy and piping hot, our side of chili at the ready for dipping. I also like to grab a few banana peppers, bite off the ends, and sprinkle the juice onto the burger for a little extra heat. Try it next time! And so, it was a good, old-fashioned L.A. dinner for a Thursday night, filled with flavor and classic comfort. I came across Carneys, serving burgers and hotdogs, but the Chili and the ambiance, décor of the restaurant being a train car is what sucked me in. Honestly, this Carney's is a time capsule. I feel as if nothing has changed. I live closer to the Studio City location, but decided to come to Sunset. My parents were passionate about Carneys. It's located on Sunset between the house where I grew up and where my dad worked for most of his life. My mom, a gourmand like myself, was very fond of the hot dog. (My haute taste favors the veggie burrito, which has nothing to do with Carneys.) Though now, I have been a vegetarian for decades and there isn't a vegetarian hot dog option, so I ordered The Hungry Planet vegan Burger. I've passed this place several times over the years, always meaning to stop in for a meal and this time my daughter and I were focused on going to a few businesses in this area and I made sure Carney's was part of it. The iconic bright yellow train cars at a bend on the Sunset Strip in WEHO are easy to spot. The entrance is a the end of a train car and the inside is an actual train car with ordering, the cooking and seating in the main car. Very different sort of setup here. The line was short and our servers were nice. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time as well. We shared a chili dog & fries. I loved the food for the simplicity of a good chili dog and ate all of it. This place is iconic and has good food. I went to Carney's on Sunset yesterday. I had a regular tuna melt, chili cheese fries, and a root beer. The tuna melt came in a hamburger bun, but I thought sourdough toast would have been better. Also, the tuna didn't sit well in the bun. The chili cheese fries had a bit of a spicy flavor and I noticed a lack of fries for the amount of chili served. The root beer was refreshing. I had been visiting Travel Town in Griffith Park earlier in the day when it became after and dinner time. My friend and I were cruising down Sunset and looking for a place to eat. That's when ahead of us came a yellow train car into view. Carney's. I didn't recognize the name but I did recognize the place. It was calling our names. We parked in the back and the lot was fairly empty. It was still kind of early. It got more crowded by the time we left After a few minutes looking over the menu I went with a chili cheese burger. My friend had a Tennessee dog and train wreck fries. It took a few minutes for it all to be cooked but it was pretty quick. They beat my expectations there. Soon enough we had our food and I was making a mess. My chili burger, reminiscent of Tommy's, was excellent. Good chili. Tangy pickles. Diced onions and sliced tomatoes. It was all sliding around and making a mess as soon as I picked it up. And, like I've always said, when it's messy it's good and when it's good it's messy. The side of fries I got were ok. If you've seen my reviews before you may know that I don't prefer the show string style fries. That is what they have at Carney's. They tasted good regardless. Cooked to my liking. So good on them for getting me to eat show string fries. My friend's train wreck fries were similar to animal style fries at In N Out. Fries topped with American cheese, grilled onions and thousand island dressing. Those looked tasty. His dog had spicy cole slaw and chili on top. Maybe more but that is what I could see. He seemed to enjoy it all. Service good, friendly and fast here. The atmosphere is cool being in an old train car. Fitting for where I had just come from on this particular occassion. This is a place I recommend but probably won't come back to any time soon only for the fact that I was just passing through on a road trip. One of the Best places to eat some fast food in West Hollywood. The beers are good too I usually get Tortuga IPA The train wreck fries are better than In N Outs animal style! It comes with two slices of fresh and juicy tomatoes. The chili is a very wet chili. It has a decent spice to it, but it is not spicy by any means. It wasn't the best chili cheese dog that I've had. That title belongs to Chroni's. Carney's offers a bigger-sized chili dog for a more affordable price. Not to mention, you get to eat inside a train car on Sunset Blvd. The location is really unbeatable. The rock n roll music playing is a bit loud. If you are hard of hearing, it may be difficult to hear. Keep that in mind when taking a kid here. The chili cheeseburger was pretty good. It was pretty solid. The Train Wreck Fries is basically a carbon copy of Animal Style fries from In n' Out. The fries alone were too crunchy and didn't taste very good on their own. When you add the cheese, onions, and Thousand Island dressing. The fries are much more edible. Carney's is another one of those nostalgic places you grow up going to with your family. I always enjoy their split and grilled new Yorker. I use brown mustard.. I like their chili as well. The one disappointment was what I ordered, my wife was one of their thai wraps.
