We were looking for something to eat for breakfast/lunch and the corned beef in the window caught our eye. Amazing! My niece ordered the corned beef plate and the son and I shared the French dip. Both items were tasty!
Maggie's kitchen in the original farmers market on Fairfax is a great valley having terrific Rubens pastrami sandwiches, corn beef on rye. Anything that you would find at a Jewish deli they even give you a pickle which is a delicious slight sour dill pickle with your sandwich, you can eat your food there at the tables or take it home Services quick and easy ambience is great.
My friend and I are kind of obsessed with the Corned Beef sandwich here. They have many things at Magee's Kitchen but their Original World Famous corned beef sandwich is where it's at for me. Found within the Farmers Market at stall 624, this place is an institution in LA. They were first at Grand Central Market in Downtown LA opening in 1917 but have been stationed here in Fairfax since 1934. Their hot dogs are passable but I'd pass on ever having one again. The aforementioned Corned Beef Norm sandwich has 1000 Island sauce on it, Coleslaw and Swiss Cheese and it's just heaven. It's a must get! You can also get this with pastrami if that suits your fancy better, an equally good protein option. The fries are also kind of whatever. If you like horseradish, theirs is supposed to be special so give that a go. I'm a Magee's Kitchen fan and I'll surely be back.
Windy City Chicago dog $13. Definitely too expensive and they don't give enough topping. It looks like more topping than it is. The bun was a little bit dry as well and it was just too much bread it wasn't a normal bun it was too thick. Good size dog though. Tested fine it just wasn't worth the price.

Being over a 100 years old, Magee's is supposedly THE spot for corned beef in LA! Only, I wasn't enthused to make the trek to the Original Farmers Market in this hot weather--Doordash it was! My corned beef wasn't out-of-this-world-delicious, but was still tender, only a tad dry. The spices and juiciness from the meat didn't come through as I was hoping. It comes with two sides of your choosing so I got the cabbage and the carrot salad. The cabbage was a tad overcooked but still okay, but the carrot salad was quite delicious and I'd get it again. Carrot salad had celery, raisins, apples, and just the right amount of sweetness, and for a gal who hates raisins, I still liked the carrot salad as it complemented the corned beef even better than the cabbage. I think this place has a lot of potential, but I docked off a star because I wasn't given an option to choose sauerkraut as a side. I can't really eat corned beef without sauerkraut, so hope they can change that for the future. Otherwise, I'd give this place another shot when I want corned beef again for next year's St. Patty's day! ;)
I gave them 4 stars because they got my order wrong. Originally I placed an order for a Reuben Roast Beef but then I changed it to a Reuben with Corned Beef. I had a Reuben, French Dip Sandwich and a Corned Beef sandwich on my tray and didn't realize the error. I'm sure they would've adjusted the sandwich if I went back to let them know, but I was in a rush. The corned beef was awesome! I would give them another shot. The food was really good.
We did a tour that ended at the Original Farmers Market. I've heard about Magee's kitchen's Rueben and today I was able to finally try it. Omg!! It was the best Rueben I've ever had. The sour kraut is tender and smooth tasting. Not sour. Complementing the meat and bread The corned beef is tender and flavorful without the typical fat. You can eat this sandwich without any effort to keep it together. You take a bite and everything comes n stays intact with a wow factor. It was such a treat Service was quick and you're able to watch them slice up the corned beef and assemble your sandwich. We ordered it for "here" and it was served on a handy tray This so you can walk the dinning area searching for an open table. We fortunately found a table within a minute. I ordered the root beer and it was amazing. Now I know the difference between mass production commercial grocery store root beer vs this specialty made I would have given 5 stars but the pricing is steep at $32 plus tip for one sandwich and a drink. Happy I had the farmers market experience. I recommend choosing this food stall especially if you're a Rueben connoisseur and only visiting as tourist and want to have something exceptional to experience at the Farmers market.
We were visiting LA and we decided to stop by the Original's Farmer's market. This was our first time. The moment we walked into this place, I could smell a delicious savory smell and I realized it was coming from Magee's Kitchen. I am a huge fan of French dip, so after walking around the market, I quickly circled back here. I will admit the food that you see in the hot window display does not look fancy, but you sense their recipes have been around for quite some time. The prices however seem a bit steep. Some items they carry: Plates, sandwiches, soups, salads, hot dogs, homemade sides. (Things like Corned beef, Brisket, Parsley Potatoes, baked beans, Creamed corn, chicken noodle, beef stew, Kraut Dog, Mac N cheese) They also have some Mexican food and a few desserts. I got the French dip, which is one sandwich (meat and bread only) with 2 pickles and Au jus. It was around $20. I have to admit even without any condiments, no cheese, nothing on the bread. THIS WAS DELICIOUS. The Au Jus for dipping is crucial to have with this sandwich or it would be dry. The meat was good quality meat, it was not tough, but tender. Great Flavor. 4/5 Pickles were good too. Would I come here again? Probably, but not often since the prices are a bit high. Service: 5/5 Food: 4/5 (knocking star off due to price) Ambiance: 4/5
I finally tried the corned beef at Maggie's. Ordered the Reuben, which is one of my all time favorite deli sandwiches. Perhaps the buildup was too high for me but I wasn't blown away by it. There was nothing really wrong with the sandwich. Corned beef was tender and flavorful. I guess I was just expecting more from a 100 plus year establishment. Side note that felt kind of odd. For whatever reason they sell Mexican food here, which slightly bothered me. It's sort of like going to Katz Deli or Langer's and seeing tacos on the menu. Not sure why they do this but I wouldn't order an enchilada at a deli.
Great service but overpriced sandwiches. I love Reuben sandwiches and this place immediately caught my eye. For $25 for the sandwich only I was expecting to be the best Reuben ever but it was just basic and honestly, I've had way better for like $15-18
These two sandwiches were so delicious!! I had the corn beef sandwich and my mom had the roast beef with the sauce dip. The beef was so tender! The combination of the sauces mixed so well! We came here last Thursday and I am still thinking about that sandwich. The service was so friendly and attentive to our questions! They have pictures of menu items so it helped me out on trying to figure out what I wanted especially on a time crunch. Their spot is literally one of the first stalls I see when you enter inside the farmer's market. There was a line but everyone was able to get their order in smooth!y. I can see people sitting about at their tables smiling as they take a bite of their sandwiches and hotdogs and beef plates.
Not worth it! 3 sandwiches costs $83!!! Plus you get rude service I asked few questions about the menu,the girl who took my order simply did not want to be there and answered my questions with extreme rudeness. Taste: corned beef - mediocre no side other than pickles. I thought the amount of meat you get for the price is simply not worth it. Pastrami-good, coleslaw add good flavor. Priced about $25, no sides. Nothing special and definitely it worth over $24 for Sandwiches! Be aware: the line can get crazy and the line moves slowly. We waited a total of 30 minutes including getting our food.
Open since 1917 I would say that Maggie's is the most famous deli at the Farmers Market. It's right in the center so it can get quite busy, but we were lucky enough to be first in line for our Saturday lunch. You order at the counter and then grab your food at the carving station. They don't offer inside seating so it will have to be at one of the many tables strewn about the Farmers Market. Everything that we ordered was made pretty quickly but pricing is a bit more expensive than some other places close by, but you really do get a great quality sandwich in return. Parking at the Farmers Market is probably the hardest part, not so much in that they have limited spaces but after 90 minutes parking can get pretty expensive per hour. Just be mindful of time and if you plan to be out in less than 90 minutes, parking is free. Being my first visit, I wanted to try their most famous sandwich which is the Corned Beef Reuben. I recently dined at Art's Deli up in the valley and got the same sandwich and preferred this Maggie's version a lot more. The meat is very juicy and the bread was perfectly toasty and overall the portion size was fair. Itt just had some great flavors. There are a few other places in town that I like even more, but it was a great version and I would happily order it again. I would definitely recommend to any sandwich or deli fan or to anyone who is visiting the Farmers Market and looking for a great food option.
Located at the Original Farmer's Market. I was here on a regular Tuesday at 11AM. Lots of parking, at the Farmer's Market and they give you validation. FYI: If you parked at the Grove side, they can't give you validation. The plate came with 2 sides. All sides were displayed freshly. I chose the corn beef plate with sides of country carrots and cabbage. Everything was cooked and seasoned to perfection. I ordered this type of plate a lot everywhere I saw if they were served. All of them are made too salty. But NOT at Magee's! The Plate: - Corn beef: tender, not too salty and just perfect. It didn't feel overwhelming to eat. I had about 5-6 long slices. - Carrots were so good. Sweet & savory. - Cabbage, a wedge and was boiled in broth! Amazing service! With smiles! I love them all instantly. Very kind and attentive service. Their display was so clean and the glass window where all the sides were placed and the serving station were so clear, neat and clean! Don't forget to take the spicy mustard (on the side) and -Yes- Will be ordering this again! read more

I've always enjoyed coming to Maggie's at The Grove, especially to grab a side of rice and beans for my two-year-old son. Yesterday, the employee told me he was swapping out the rice and beans because they looked old. However, after sitting down, they still didn't seem fresh. When I went back to order more food, I noticed the rice and beans on the hot bar looked much fresher than what I had been served. When I politely called to ask about it, the employee became confrontational instead of reassuring me. Whether I was right or wrong, the interaction left me feeling uncomfortable. I hope management looks into it because I've always had good experiences here until now. read more
My wife and I came to the Grove on Saturday night thanks to the new extension on the D line. Instead of dealing with the horrible parking situation this mall has, the metro extension makes it super easy to come and grab food now so that's exactly what we did. Magee's Kitchen is one of the bigger food stands at The Grove and one of the places that most people seem to be eating at. Why do I say that? Well, because when I was walking around trying to decide where to eat all I saw were people eating the white plates with meats and sides on them so I just had to come and give Magee's Kitchen a shot myself. I ended up ordering the Ham with Mashed Potatoes and Macaroni and Cheese and it was basically like being served a plate from my own mother and their was some comfort in that. The ham itself tasted like ham and since I'm way too lazy to make ham at home, I was very happy with the tastiness. The mashed potatoes were very, very good and the Macaroni & Cheese with bread crumbs were fantastic as well, it basically tasted like some of the best home cooked food you could have and it was wonderful. Overall, Magee's Kitchen was a wonderful place to get dinner and somewhere I will absolutely be returning to in the future. The food here was comforting and delicious while the ordering process was easy and the prices were reasonable. Definitely a top spot at the Grove! read more

Swing by the Farmer's Market after an event at the Saban Theater. My son wanted to grab a bite to eat but wasn't sure what he wanted and once he saw the corned beef and cabbage dinner on the menu he knew he had to have it. The plate was around $21 but it was well worth it. There was plenty of tender sliced corned beef and potatoes and I swear a half a head of cabbage. He decided to save it until we got back home to San Diego but he said it was just as tasty as if he ate it in LA. It was a Saturday evening so the place was packed but the staff was great and we got our food really quickly. It was a bit loud but that is what makes it fun. I wish we had more places like this closer to home here. It's not always easy to fuel and make a 19 year growing drummer happy but this plate surely did! read more

This was our second time visiting Magee's Kitchen, and I still can't stress enough how amazing the food is. I ordered the roast beef French dip, and it was absolutely on point--so flavorful and perfectly done. It was so good that my daughter kept stealing bites of my sandwich. We also ordered the stuffing and mac and cheese as sides, and both were just as delicious as the main dish. Everything we tried was a hit. This place has quickly become a favorite, and we'll definitely be back again. read more
My friend and I just happened to find this place and I'm so glad we did. I got the French dip sandwich and she got the taco combo. The beef in my sandwich was hand sliced and so tender. My friend wished she had gotten my sandwich. Her tacos were delicious but the sandwich was amazing!! I want to come back and try the corned beef. The staff was very sweet and helped us decide on what to get. The ambiance is casual but we could sit anywhere we wanted to outside and it's all under beautiful trees that have lights on them. Picked this place today at the Farmers Market. Choosing food at the Famers Market is always so hard because there is just so much to choose from. I am glad I decided on this place today. I got the pastrami sandwich on rye and my husband got the Reuben. We got a side of potato salad and some pickles. They cut the meat right in front of you. The pastrami was so so tender and juicy. The bread perfected the sandwich. The potato salad was a 10, and the pickles were nice and crunchy. The sandwiches are small and very expensive, but well worth the money. Service is quick which it needs to be because the line is very long. The farmers market is always so fun to be at. Pick this place of you feel like a yummy pastrami sandwich. read more

I was in the area with my friend, we were going to see a Jimmy Carr show. We got into town a little early and decided to stop at The Grove to grab a bite. There were a lot of sit down restaurants throughout the shopping center...but then we stumbled upon this gem. My friend got the French dip, and I got a couple of ground beef tacos. The French dip was DELICIOUS, some of the most tender meat I have ever had. The tacos were pretty good and simple. The people serving us were super friendly...and I am not sure how you make soda "organic"...but we each tried an organic soda. We definitely want to go back to this food court and try more things from different places. Loved the outdoor food court vibe. I showed pictures to my husband and he wants to go soon as well. Five stars for the corned beef reuben. One of the classics and always hits. Not fair to compare this to Langers (my fav) but this place is still very solid. read more
Pretty expensive for what you are getting. The nacho dog was a little underwhelming, I was expecting more in flavor but it was a little bland and it was a hard to eat because of how stacked it was. The guy at the front was nice, giving out reccomendations and selling us on getting more than what we wanted. Second time eating at this place when coming to the Grove and I would recommend trying their food at least once but I will probably try some other spots next time. read more

What a dud. We were shocked at the size of the small portions. The person making the sandwiches weighed the meat and took a small slice off so that it would exactly match the amount you were supposed to get. This is not what I expect for $27. With two bottles of water, our bill was over $60. read more

Est. 1934- started 1917 Magee's Kitchen opened as a food stand at the Grand Central Market in 1917, and then moved to the LA Farmers Market in 1934. Magee's became the first restaurant (permanent tenant) to open in the Original Farmer's Market. Blanche Magee paid $100 to bring electricity to the market and she was responsible for putting up tables and chairs , as well as bringing in the first public toilets to the market. Come to Magee's and get a taste of history. We had the Word-Famous Corned Beef Sandwich (introduced to the menu in the 1940's) and it did not disappoint. The meat was tender and packed with flavor, and the coleslaw was crisp and crunchy. The side of Mash & Gravy was fine, but nothing special. The staples here are the meats and the nuts. The service was very friendly and helpful and we were delighted to also see so many Mexican dishes available. It's amazing that Magee's Kitchen has lasted so long and we look forward to our next visit. read more

Is Horseradish important to you? It's a Big Deal to me. And, I want to tell you, this place makes the BEST horseradish I've ever purchased. It's truly outstanding. Way better than any I've ever bought in a grocery store. Equal to any I've had in a restaurant. As I was walking by the display case at Magee's I noticed these jars of horseradish. And I was struck by how much display space was afforded the product. Then I noticed there were two different kinds, the familiar looking white kind and a strange red version. I had to find out what was up with the red horseradish so I asked the guy behind the counter. He explained that the red had a little Beet Juice added to it. He told me it was popular in Jewish cuisine, that it paired well with gefilte fish. He continued on, sharing a bit of the company's history. I was surprised to learn that Magee's is over a 100 years old, and their Horseradish was their first product. Originally it was sold from a little cart on the street. Then, in 1917, when Grand Central Market was built, Magee's was one of the first tenants. After nearly 20 years at the Grand Central, Magee's moved here to the Original LA Farmer's Market in 1934 becoming the Market's first restaurant. I was so surprised to learn that this is the oldest restaurant here. I was kicking myself for having never eaten here before. I resolved to remedy that at my earliest possible opportunity. And I decided right then to buy a jar of their horseradish, the product their whole 100 plus years as a company was built on. So, tonight I tried that horseradish and WOW was I impressed. The stuff is pure freshly ground horseradish, no filler, no weird add ins. If it's not perfect, it definitely will do until perfect comes along. The Reuben sandwich was pretty good, very flavorful but expensive for the amount of food you get. There was a line that took maybe 15 minutes to order, but overall service was pretty quick. There's lots of public seating outside. It can get super busy and crowded. read more

Magee's Kitchen is one of the stands at the Original Farmer's Market on 3rd and Fairfax. They're known for their beef, but specifically their corn beef sandwiches on rye. Recently I was in the area and decided to stop by to get some food. The service was efficient and I got my food pretty quickly considering how busy the Farmer's Market was at that time. If you're looking for ambiance, take your plate of food and head upstairs to the second floor and plant yourself at a table next to the window. The nice breeze hitting the trees right outside will be something special. Now for the food. Unfortunately, it was disappointing. I ordered the roast beef plate with a side of cream corn and mac & cheese. The mac & cheese was decent with good grade cheese. The cream corn was a little on the watery side for me, but at least seasoned well. The roast beef was well cooked at medium, but lacked absolutely any flavor. I don't know if they just forgot to season the meat while cooking, but I had to cover it up with the sides just to eat it as it was incredibly bland. That was a big disappointment. I also tried one of their hot dogs. I ordered the All-American. While the dog was nicely cooked, the relish was a little dry. While I understand that it's fresh relish, to call it the All-American, there's an expectation that comes alone with it and this just did not meet it. I expected a wetter relish and onions and what I got was very dry. Overall, I hate to say it, but it's not worth the premium paid to eat here. There are definitely better options if you're looking for protein, but it makes me sad because I really wanted to like it. read more
damn was i surprised by this. when you think of delis that serve great pastrami, you got langers in la and you got katz in ny no doubt. but magee's one hundred percent deserves an honorable mention. something about a classic deli sandwich that just hits hard. the age old question is - does the bread or the meat make the sandwich? well how about both. we tried both their corned beef and their pastrami, both being amazingly delicious. on one sandwich you got the perfectly toasted bread, and on the other you got the perfect homey rye bread. service here is great, fast and friendly. just wish the patrons would reciprocate it back to the workers. kindness goes a long way everyone! read more

This spot is located in the Original Farmer's Market. We came here on St. Patrick's Day, and it was a hugeeeeeee line! Took around 40ish minutes to get our food. We got the corned beef plate (comes with cabbage and potato balls) and the pastrami plate (with mac and cheese and creamed spinach as the sides). The corned beef was super tender, and was definitely the star of the lunch. They give you mustard and horseradish to add more flavor. The potato balls were super plain, so it was barely edible. The cabbage was solid. The pastrami had some tender pieces, but some pieces were dry. I overall enjoyed the Mac and cheese. It was thick, but maybe could have had a stronger cheese taste. The creamed spinach was tasty! Total for both dishes was around $48. read more
