Loaded Philly Fries and Double Smash plus Double Philly
    Natalie S.

Was hoping this burger and fries combo would be better. Don't get me wrong it is a tasty smash burger with fries but it wasn't anything spectacular. I prefer an In N Out double double animal style with animal fries over this meal especially with chopped chilis, but what I did like is that you could add jalapeños (they weren't hot at all) at no extra cost and that you have a Philly option in addition to a traditional smash burger. The place is small and seriously HOT inside. At least on a summer day it was unpleasant in there. The tiny tables outside had so many incessant flies coming around it was annoying and took away from the experience. Service was quick and helpful. Maybe with more indoor seating experience (and fans?!?) it would have been better (or take your food to-go!).

The vibe is great with cool staff -- very friendly!! The Philly sandwich and Philly fries ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! If I could give 10 Stars I would!! Don't sleep on them! YUMMY

If you like spice, spicy, and a little flavor on your burger this is the place, one of the best smash burger in LA for sure. Super amazing staff, everything is made fresh right in front of you. I love supporting local businesses and these guys deserve it. Load up on the thin sliced jalapeños for the perfect flavor for your burger. The fries are HUGE and enough for two people to shared We tried both burgers and honestly can't pick a favorite, if you're a Philly cheesesteak lover, this is your new favorite spot. It hits perfectly, and taste just like a Philly. Amazing twist. Please check this place out, do yourself a favor and go in and pick up your burger , you won't regret it.

Gotta stay eatin' here. It's only right to get the fries loaded all the way wit the jalapeños too. Steak goes crazy and the fries is bout the size of a moat around a castle, it can feed multiple people for sure! Quick service, real fast food but fresh as hell. Gotta do it! Diet starts Neva!

Hands down, the BEST burger I've ever had -- and that's saying a lot. I've traveled all around the world, from the US to Europe to Asia, and I'm from Kuwait -- a place I proudly call the future food capital of the world. But nothing, and I mean nothing, compares to Double N Up. These smashed burgers are next-level juicy, flavorful, and perfectly crafted. Every bite melts in your mouth, with the perfect ratio of meat, cheese, and that toasted bun that ties it all together like a dream. I've tried countless gourmet burgers, street burgers, and everything in between -- but this place? It's 100,000,000 times better than anything I've had before. It's not just a burger. It's a culinary experience. If you're in LA and you're not stopping by Double N Up, you're seriously missing out. Easily a 10/10. Will be dreaming about this burger until my next trip back. And not to forget perfect ambiance !

Good Philly smash burger. Dreadful mushy undercooked/old fries.

California smash burger with a Philly twist. A few different options. You can opt to order a traditional LA smash like FTW and others, or you can order the Philly steak, chopped 'n smashed. I opted to order a good old fashion double smash burger with cheese, jalapenos and their sauce. The cheese and sauce tasted whizzy. Since this is a Philly thing, I wonder if the composition of their cheese spread is also Philly style. It was savory, but a little floppy and messy. Doesn't necessarily outshine the other joints, but definitely matches most of them. The fries though. Yes. Those fries. Squishy soft. Not crunchy at all. No salt. So I'd take the burger, leave the fries behind. 3/5

Conveniently located in a plaza with ample parking. I tried the double smash as well as a double Philly burgers. Size of burgers were pretty decent, compared to the other burger spots I've tried. As far as I'm concerned, this was one of the top five smash burgers I've ever tried and I've tried a lot. I had not heard about Philly burgers prior to this place, however decided to give it a try and honestly would definitely recommend it. Price range was average, service was great. They have outside seating. Would come back if I'm in the area.

Double Philly - Ribeye, Cheese, Grilled Onions Mushrooms, House Sauce / 5 ! I was on my way to a different spot, but the line was long. I passed by Double N Up and decided it would be fun to give them a try. They have a small menu, which, in my opinion, is never a bad thing. It usually means they focus on mastering a few items, and that seems to be the case here. I tried the double Philly, a Philly Cheesesteak inspired sandwich with ribeye beef, mushrooms, cheese, and onions. It was awesome! Packed full of experyly grilled flavors piled high on a toasted hamburger bun. There was so much in the bun that I lost some of the fillings when I picked it up. It was filling, tasty, and fresh. I'd have ordered fries, but I'm trying to lower my average meal calorie intake. The sandwich by itself was quite filling. They are located in a small strip mall with a lot of other restaurants, so parking seems like it can be tricky. But it's okay because there is lots of easy street parking right on Highland. The storefront is small and cozy. There are some bar counter seats inside and a nice patio area outside. The crew was friendly and helpful. I'd certainly eat here again. I'd love to come back for the loaded fries.

The service was excellent, we were greeted right away with a warm, friendly welcome. The food was even better! I wish I had taken a photo before digging in, but it looked and tasted too good to wait. The space was spotless and had a very inviting atmosphere. Definitely a place I'd come back to!

We saw this place on TikTok and were in the area. We ordered the double smash burger and Philly fries. The burger was okay, but the Philly fries were very tasty. I will definitely try the Philly smash burger next time. Their menu is simple. They only have 5 items. The restaurant is very small about 6 counter seating and four tables outside. The service was okay. They have a self service tablet to order your own food. There's no restroom.

Parking: Street parking was super easy on a Sunday afternoon, I was able to pull up right in front and park on the street. There is a Super A across the street and ample parking around for free. Ambiance & Food: This reminds me of an old school burger stand. Those were the best burgers and this one did not stop that trend. As I walked up, we were warmly greeted and given a quick rundown of what which burger. They did have specials (I will get to that in a second) which we were intrigued, but for the sake of perspective, I ordered the Goldburger and both regular fries and curly fries with a bottle coke. The Goldburger is naturally a double, but my gymrat protein brain added that extra patty. They use a 70% to 30% mixture for their burger which makes the burger oh so decadent. The picture I took doesn't do it justice. The moment you bite into the burger the combination of burger juice, aioli, burnt skirt, all come together in such a harmonious fashion. It was remarkable. Though fries are not one of my strong points, both fries were crispy and I haven't had any other experience with Curly fries other than Jack in the Box, but these were so much better. I went ahead and dipped the fries in some homemade Aioli and dang, what a combo! Back to those specials, the current special is CHILI, I was intrigued so they gave me a small container of it to try. Man, if I wasn't watching my caloric intake, that would have been the move. It was rich and chunky and not to soggy which some always comes. Give it a try as they said it will be around for sometime. Other than burgers, they do have hot dogs as well. So worth trying both next time. To be perfectly honest, this brought back so much nostalgia for me, I used to go to school in the area and this brought a lot of those memories back. Tasty burgers and a must try for sure if your around! Cheers!

Well, LA is blessed with exceptional burgers and this one is in the conversation. DH: First, you pick the style of the burger. I got the DH, a hefty 10-ounce dry aged beef patty - medium rare. Next, you select the accompaniments. With the Amboy, there are caramelized onions, American cheese, sliced pickles, Amboy sauce, and a toasted sesame bun. The beef patty is thick and plump, extra crispy on the edge (maybe slightly too much so). It is a bit too salty on the outside, while needing a bit more seasoning inside. It's medium on the edges, but nice pink and juicy in the center. Also, 10 ounces is huge, you're probably better off with one of the smaller patties or going with a double. The fries are tin and really crispy. They're nice, get them.

I remember they were selling $10 Don Julio 1942 shots one time because it was Cinco de Mayo week. Great times and memories made at this restaurant. Holiday decor was always great to see especially during Halloween. A true loss. Bring it back please! If there are any Dodgers fans out there with a good pregame spot, please reply with recommendations seeing how I do not have one anymore.

First off, I'm sad to know they are closed :(…read more The last time I went there was around the holidays before the end of the year and enjoyed some good wings and a couple of drinks. The staff was friendly and very attentive. The wings and drinks themselves were super flavorful and I thought I would have more time to enjoy and come back to visit while in town. My partner also tried their burger and fries and decided to stop by the restaurant only to find out they closed a couple of months ago. It was worth the visit when we went there back in December.z The place was cute and it felt comfy.

Places like this are becoming rare, and Hawkins House of Burgers has earned its legendary status. If you're a local and haven't been here yet, you're missing out. If you are wanting a better tasting burger with pretty much thr same ingredients, I would suggest The Shack in Playa Del Rey. The fries here got soggy because of how they put them in the bag. It's unfortunate that there is no where to sit and that's why the fries get soggy. Let's now talk about the process. They accidentally messed my order by missing fries. Not the end of the world but in order for them to correct their mistake, I had to take all the food they put in the bag and give it back to them. That means while I waited over 25 minutes for my order, I had to wait longer for them to see what's in the bag to see the mistake. Who is to say that if I was crooked, I would simply remove the fries from the bag. What this ultimately means is that now my family is eating colder food. I didn't even bother for the fries anymore since I didn't want to either have my food get colder or wait another 20 minutes for them to remake all the food. I simply wouldn't go back. I do hope they stay around because we are losing small business but the owners should really reconsider the policy for missing food.
