I so love Wurstkuche and have been going to both locations for years (there's another one downtown). I love absolutely everything on the food menu; it's just sausages and fries and they do 'em all perfectly. And the beer menu is fantastic including solid Belgians and Germans on tap and in the bottle. The few cocktails they've added to the menu are great, too! The sausages range from delicious standards to equally delicious exotics with rabbit, pheasant, duck, buffalo and...rattlesnake. I have had them all and love every single type. The lamb with Mediterranean spices, Louisiana Hot Link and Bratwurst are favorites of mine. On this particular trip, because we had just splurged and picked up APL BBQ (!!) for dinner down the street, my son and I just ordered a Klein fries with white truffle oil glaze and dipping sauces and the awesome and friendly chap (Spencer) working the order counter threw in a couple extra sauces for free. These double fried in duck fat traditional Belgian fries are the BEST IN THE WORLD and bring me so much happiness whenever we have them. Truly. Even better than those you'll get in Belgium. The perfectly cut fries are absolutely incredible, so soft on the inside and crispy on the outside...OH MY GOD, these are one of my absolute favorite things in the world. The dipping sauces are all wonderful...we usually get the curry ketchup and the chipotle aoili but we were lucky enough to also have the pesto mayo and the chipotle ketchup the last of which we had never tried. Decided to try something a little different and went with the duck and bacon with jalapenos, it hit the spot. Not too fatty or heavy on the duck taste, just the right balance with the jalapenos too. My son got an original bratwurst and that is a solid option if you don't want to go off the beaten path. Fries were crispy the and sauces are fun to try. They also have lots of great beer options. Staff was really friendly, my kid left his water bottle there and they kept it safe for us to go pick it up on the way out. Out of the blue my husband said he wanted Swedish potato sausages. Where did that come from? Apparently his mother who was Swedish used to make them when he was young. Ok. The search began. Didn't find any restaurant that served Swedish potato sausages but found Wurstkuche restaurant. Close enough. We ordered for delivery from their Venice location. We chose three sausage rolls: bratwurst, bockwurst and one outlier, the vegetarian smoke apple sage sausage. The winner was, drumroll please, the bratwurst. Maybe because it was the most familiar, don't really know, but my husband and I loved it the best. The bockwurst was also good. The vegetarian sausage was interesting, smoky with a definite sweetness. Honestly if I hadn't known it was vegetarian I might have picked it because of its unique combination of flavors. This is one of my friend groups's favorite places to go on a Friday night. Good food and good drinks, what more can you ask for? I love the mango habanero sausage. I'd usually go for topping (particularly sweet and spicy peppers) for some extra zing but have a tendency to have more topping on my plate than in my buns, so it's a bit of a messy eat. Just one sausage is not quite enough for meal so definitely get some fries or a second sausage if you're there for dinner. Loads of great beer options, and if you're alcohol free, the cucumber soda is also excellent. The best part about this restaurant is the space. A review here mentioned that if one doesn't like sausage, they probably won't like this place. I'm here to say I am one of those people, however I happen to love fries which I've heard were great. So this review is solely for their Belgian fries and sadly, the terrible service that came with them. Guy who took my phone order was fine; he was competent and was able to get my order correct. The rating of 2-stars is between the fries being pretty good, but the girl behind the counter took the rating down from what it originally was. Plain and simple, she should not be in a customer-facing job. I honestly start off friendly when going somewhere; I have nothing against anyone here so it's a fresh start but if you are unpleasant and come off as rude towards me, I naturally tend to mirror your reaction. Discovering too late I went to the wrong door, I simply asked if that was the area where I grab takeout. The look she gave me and the tone she used when she said, 'what' about ten seconds later could not have been more off-putting for an easy question to answer. I repeated myself much more slowly so she would hopefully understand, she signed and said she would get it for me, as though it was a hinderance for her to go grab the bag (I wish she would have told me where to go to be honest instead). When I asked if they took cash or card, I had another delay (this one was about five seconds) before I hear, 'Card.' Realizing there was no mustard, I had to torture her with One more question (essentially making her do her job), and she said to tell her which ones I wanted. This is one thing she got correct. I wish I didn't tip cash; I nearly reached my hand back in there to get it when I realized she was actually watching me, without saying thank you. She really didn't deserve this at all. As mentioned above, fries were worthy, the small was a perfect size and although the mustards provided were in smaller containers than my requested sauce, they were all decent (whole grain being demolished). Next time, I'll go through the other entrance specifically to hopefully avoid this blonde thing I had to deal with this first time around who made such a poor impression. I'm not sure if this was a cultural difference, or if she-plain and simple-had something against me even though I've never seen it (her) in my life. However, I won't let her ruin this place for me. I came here on a Sunday afternoon and it was pretty packed. There was a line out the door (though the entry area to order is pretty tiny, so I think this is kind of expected). I got a Buffalo sausage and a classic bratwurst and a side of fries. I've heard incredible things about the fries and they definitely lived up to expectation! I also got a beer as their menu is pretty extensive and had something I was excited to try. The Buffalo one wasn't super flavorful but the brat was excellent. Despite how tough it may be at times to find in my maps app, I'll always recommend this place to anyone visiting Venice. The reasons are pretty simple. The large fries come with a lot of fries, which makes it a good deal. The fries are thick, crispy, and fresh. The truffle oil glaze adds another dimension to the flavor of the fries and I would recommend the glaze. Even though we didn't get beer this time, Wurstküche has a huge selection of craft beers and other drinks. There's a lot of inside and outdoor seating. Pretty cute place with nice ambiance. I came here on a Saturday afternoon and it wasn't busy at all, which was really nice because I got to enjoy my meal in peace and quiet. The flavors were super unique! To be honest, I'm not the biggest hotdog person, so I couldn't really taste a huge difference from regular hotdogs. The most I could say is that they felt like gourmet hotdogs! definitely more flavored than your average one. I was also pretty excited about their mustard and sauce collection, but it honestly wasn't anything super wow. Overall, I was decently satisfied, but I can't say I'd personally come back again.
