This is normally one of my favorite places, I've been coming here for several years, and make a point to visit every few months or so. However this last visit (05/04) was very disappointing. The person taking the orders seemed to be very distracted, and appeared to be annoyed that she had to serve me. Additionally, room had opened up at the counter, and I sat myself while waiting for my food. My food sat for a good five minutes while she was talking to another guest, and delivered it to me curtly. The cook had to deliver my fries when done, since she was still having an in-depth with the other guest (we were the only guests there). The cook had to alert the person taking orders again that I wanted another $4 + bottle of coke. Additionally the currywurst was not as good in terms of flavor as before. The sauce was not as flavorful or spicy as I remember, even though there seemed to be the same amount of curry powder on the sausage. I'm not sure why I was treated this way, I was cordial, and left a tip when I ordered (even on the bottle of coke that I had to beg to get). The location is a classic of LA, vibrant and bustling. Lots of different food options available, more than I've ever seen in one place. The parking costs are a little high but it's LA. $5 for the first 90 minutes and $2 for every 15 minutes afterwards. Plenty for a meal, but if you're planning on exploring little Tokyo after, there are flat rate $12 parking spots nearby too like John's parking. There isn't much seating so you might need to fight for a spot or eat standing. Service is good and friendly, the food took about 10 minutes to make at peak lunch hour on a Saturday so not bad. The food itself isn't that great in my opinion. To be fair, I don't think I'm a big fan of the sauerkraut which disappointed me because I'm a huge fan of vinegar. I got the standard brat in a bun and my girlfriend got the breakfast hash, which includes curry wurst in it. The bun was fine, I'm no bratwurst connoisseur but it was a juicy sausage, but otherwise it felt like a standard hot dog with sauerkraut. The currywurst tasted fine too, but ultimately neither flavor excited me. There are better places in the market to get food. read more

We had an early break for lunch today in LA, so I walked a coworker over to Grand Central Market since I knew there would be lots of options. We both decided that today was a wurst kind of day. He ordered the currywurst at level 3 of heat with fries. I had the Nurnberger sausage with the appropriate fixings and roasted potatoes. My sausage rivaled those I had in Vienna recently! The staff was super friendly, too. The shop is right in the midst of Grand Central Market, so it's busy, but not overwhelming. The decor is sparse, but not unusual for a small stall vendor. Each was $8 which for the portions you get some might not consider amazing value, but I expected prices to be a little inflated in a location like this. The Bratwurst is your typical pork and Nürnberger being veal and pork. I was excited to try both and I doubted they would be the wurst I've had. I like the sauce they use for the sausages and they are pretty tangy. You can't go wrong with either sausage. They have a good texture and plenty of flavor. They also sell pretzels and they were actually pretty good too. Very soft and warm which a good amount of salt. I would recommend ordering one to go with the sausages even though the sausages some with bread. When I went, most of the tables had filled with regulars (some speaking German) and it took both the waitress and the cook 15 minutes to notice me and take my order. I wasn't really bothered, most of their regulars had some love for this place and seemed to gravitate towards the bar. Noticing my confusion some of them gave some pretty bomb recommendations. This was my second taste of currywurst in a more mainstream setting. This version is definitely more ketchup heavy but it kinda works. Especially if you got a sausage and the fries. Berlin Currywurst is located inside Grand Central Market. My date and I actually came here since another vendor missed one of our orders. I low key think my date was traumatized the last time I was hangry, so he wanted to make sure I had a decent overall meal portion. First you choose your sausage, my date opted for the Paprika which has pork, paprika and garlic. Then you choose a style, which he opted for in a bun with sauerkraut and onions. The one really nice thing was that they cut it in half for us to easily share. And we also shared a Topo Chico mineral water. The bread was hard and dry, but I actually liked the sausage. My date mentioned trying this spot prior and he couldn't taste too much difference from the original Brat and the Paprika. I saw the red speaks in there and the sausage tasted good but I definitely didn't get any paprika notes either. I was over it with the bread halfway through and I just finished the sausage. Considering their primary product is the sausage, I would say it is fairly successful. I just wouldn't opt for the bread in the future if there was an opportunity to come back. read more

I tried the chicken brat and flavor wise it was good, but the bread to meat ratio was just way off. If I took a full bite then the bread would overpower the flavor of everything else in the bun. The fries here are spectacular. Seriously some of the best fries I've had. I ordered the tofu wurst since I don't eat meat. It was average, on the dry side. Maybe I was supposed to order sauerkraut with it, I don't know. It was tasty, but dry. The sauces are delicious. The employees are nice. Overall I recommend it and would come by again for the fries and to try the tofu wurst with sauerkraut and see if there was a difference in moisture. read more

I love currywurst - it was my favourite street food to order when I was living in Berlin. I was very excited to learn that this was one of the few places left in L.A. that offered it, so I had to try it! The stall at the Grand Central Market is relatively easy to find if you enter on the Broadway side. There are only 4 bar stools for sitting, but if you are lucky enough to grab a spot, I say take it. The menu offers about 10 items, which was more than I expected. You can order a traditional currywurst or have it in a bun. There are several types of sausages from which you can select, along with some sides. I ordered the brat in classic currywurst style with a side of German fries. The order took about 10 minutes as it was quite busy. The price is definitely not very Berlin, as you can expect to pay around $10. My classic currywurst came with a bread roll, which was quite good. The currywurst amount was half the amount you would normally get in Berlin. I also wish that I had requested it to be very spicy as the normal level was just okay. The German fries were so-so (priced at $5). Since currywurst is not as common to find, I will find my way back here and try ordering some of their other options and have a more delicious experience. read more

The sausage and sauce were really good..kinda reminded me of those little wieners in the Crock-Pot thing...but, better. Bread was fresh and soft and helped with the sausage.
