It's a staple in my rotation, and over time I've really gotten to know the people there--especially at the bar. One person who truly stands out is Becca. She's usually one of the first people I see when I go to GCM, She is an absolute delight. because she greets me with a such enthusiasm or a friendly wave and a genuinely beautiful smile. Honestly, it almost makes me feel guilty that I don't come by more often! Recently, I saw a review about an incident involving a customer and one of the people who work here, so I feel compelled to speak up. If you come across any negative review about anyone here at the bar, I can confidently say it does not reflect the people I--and many others--have experienced. In all my visits, I've never once seen her or the staff handle anything with anything less than professionalism and kindness. As a patron, one of the main reasons I keep coming back to Maple Block is because of the people. I used to frequent their culver city location before moving out of west LA and towards DTLA. I was very happy to find out that a location opened in Grand Central Market. First thing I noticed was that the menu differs from their original culver city location, with my favorite brisket sandwich + side option not being available. I ended up opting for just a pulled pork sandwich. The meat was flavorful and juicy, pairing well with the bbq sauce used. Even with all the wetness, the buns held the sandwich together without falling apart. Overall, good pulled pork sandwich. I asked which side was the most popular and the cashier said they were all good lol unfortunately, he wasn't too excited to provide details so I went with the Mac n cheese. The service is not efficient, it took about 15-20 minutes to get my order. The group I was with ordered the same special I did and we found that the ingredients in the club sandwich were not consistent. One sandwich had green tomatoes and avocado and another had no avocado or green tomato at all. The chicken breast was smoked and had great flavor however, it was over cooked! The sourdough bread was too toasty and extremely hard to bite into and fell apart too easily. I wasn't impressed with anything except that the Mac n cheese was decent. I definitely won't be back . The bbq sauce is also very good, I would recommend to ask for extra since the meat doesn't come with bbq sauce on top already. The Fries had a good crunch and well seasoned, another great choice for a side. The Corn bread was pretty average, I wouldn't go out of my way for it. That tri-tip was so succulent, juicy, melt-in-your mouth that I ordered another for dinner! This is a special menu for Dine In LA only and it had a brioche bun, tri-tip, with onion rings, spicy BBQ sauce, and pickles inside the sando. The whole thing came together for a delicious combo. Outside of Dine In LA, the closest to this would be the brisket. There is plenty of tables on the patio and when I was there, the LAFD ladder truck was also there. Grand Central Market has a parking garage that charges $7 for the first 90 minutes; which isn't too bad. I thought the food was just okay though. Everything came out cold. My friend and I shared a combo plate consisting of tri tip, beef brisket, ranch beans, and mac and cheese. We also ordered an addition 1/4 rack of ribs. The tri tip was the best meat. It was soft and well-flavored. The beef brisket was super fatty, like 70% fat and 30% muscle; I did not like it. The ribs were overly seasoned, tough, and sooooo salty. I was hoping for some BBQ that slapped but I was met with a dry taco. Seeing a sign for $3 brisket tacos on a Tuesday, I decided to give it a shot. While I waited for my order, I sat outside in the patio area where it wasn't too crowded and relaxing with shading provided by umbrellas. Tables were clean as well. After a few minutes, I received the taco I was promised. Upon first look, it looks good and clean. I crave a thick juicy burger from time to time and so I wander to this Maple Block Meat Co. from time to time. The smashburgers get old for me sometimes. Unfortunately, they're inconsistent with their burger and service here is absent minded and they lack any care. The Block Burger.. 8 oz burger, thick not smashed, with American cheese, onion, pickles on a sesame potato bun has potential. You just don't know how over or undercooked this burger is but overall, the flavor is good at best. The service here is bad. On a recent visit on a slow and cold evening, I waited 30 minutes for a burger only to ask while others were waiting around. Until I saw others receive their order before me, I started to inquire and the burger was ready a while back. The chef indicated I was fob was buzzed and said he knew it was broken. If there was a bit of care, he should of called it out. I complained to the manager who is also the bartender who gave no apology and made an excuse that the buzzer was broken with a bit of arrogance. Honestly, this guy here is a piece of work. Every time I've been here, he ignores patrons who want to order and he cares more to finish off his conversations at the bar rather than take orders (on every occasion). Not even sure why I tip. Im a local and have been a regular at Maple Block since they replaced Horse Thief and have thoroughly enjoyed their food and service immensely. The manager Hugo was always conscientious and provided excellent service. The reason I have to give a one star review because the new bartender, Becca, is completely unprofessional. The first few times we interacted she appeared personable and present! However, since then she's made a habit of letting her personal life affect the way she handles customers. She brings her boyfriend to the bar and they often fight and as a result she has a bad attitude with the customers. It's incredibly clear and frankly unsettling when she's in a bad mood because she's either lethargic or just plain rude towards the customers. Not only has this happened to myself but I've witnessed this treatment to numerous others. I let it slide the first few times because we all have bad days. But this has become a consistent pattern and it is completely unacceptable. I hope this type of customer service doesn't become the standard for Maple Block. read more

It was a 15 minute walk that I thought was doable, however I soon found myself going down some streets that made me feel uncomfortable. I'd recommend taking an Uber or Lyft (which I did on the return trip). You order at the bar and pickup at the window. There's a big neon sign over the bar that says "Order here ya'll". So I did. They were a decent portion with fries, pico de gallo, brisket, cheese sauce and a giant jalapeño on top. They were really good. The service was ok. You order at the bar and get your food at a pickup window. It comes in a to-go container and they have canned soda/bottled water yet we were still asked for tip when paying.. what's up with that?!? We had to get our own food and even cleared our own trash. I don't mind picking up my own trash and serving myself but I am not going to tip you for just handing me my food. It was a Saturday night and my wife and I were headed to the Grand Central Market for some dinner. We usually walk in blindly having no idea where we are going to eat, but my wife caught the scent of BBQ so we headed over to the Maple Block Meat Co to give this place a shot. Located right outside of the main food haul, this place has a large bar area with stools along with large wooden tables with seats to give some seating variety. The menu here has a lot of different BBQ options as well as sandwiches, appetizers, and even some other random goods to fill you up. I ended up ordering the Cali-Wrap which was grilled chicken, lettuce, some sauces for flavour. We also ended up splitting an order of the loaded brisket fries. I'll be honest here, the Cali-Wrap was a bit of a disappointment to me. The wrap itself was a decent size, but the taste just wasn't a home run and it was just kind of subpar. The loaded brisket fries on the other hand were really good. The flavour of the wood smoked brisket was really good mixed with the french fries and veggies, and were definitely the best part of the meal. Overall, Maple Block Meat Co is a solid enough BBQ spot and a solid addition to the Grand Central Market. I've been to Maple Block Meat Co a few times now on my lunch break and it's not too shabby. Located at Grand Central Market, it's just outside the main entrance on Hill Street (directly across the street from the Angels Flight Railway). You order at the bar, they give you a pager, then you go to the window to pick up your order when it's ready. Seating is purely outside in a shaded patio, so when it rains get it to-go (or eat inside GCM). The patio is nice but there's lots of falling leaves so expect to play goalie for your food/drink or you'll get an extra ingredient. The tables vary from private to communal so expect to rub shoulders when it's busy. They also don't really clean the tables much so you're at the mercy of the kindness of whoever ate before you. My go-to order is the Loaded Brisket Fries - pure bliss! The Brisket Sandwich is also good but bring your appetite as it's pretty big! The sides are good especially the cornbread. Loaded Brisket Fries, $16 prior to tax- My husband decided to get an order of fries and though it would be even better to get the loaded fries (originally he was just thinking about just a side of regular fries because it's always better not to drink on an empty stomach). These fries were good but a little spicy, probably from the chipotle aioli and the jalapeno. But I am not much of a spicy eater. My husband, who does like to eat spicy foods, thought it was just fine.
