We went on a Sunday morning and it delivered exactly what you want from a local favorite. No fuss, just really good food done right. We both went for the burritos and they were the highlight. My husband ordered the spicy burrito loaded with all the fixings, while I went with the traditional. Mine had grilled onions, avocado, crispy chicken tenders, tots, egg, and chipotle mayo all wrapped in a warm, perfectly soft tortilla. Every bite felt intentional, balanced, and honestly hard to put down. They're known for their chicken sandwiches, but do not sleep on the breakfast. The donuts hold their own too. I had the apple fritter and it hit that perfect mark with a slight crunch on the outside and just the right amount of apple throughout. This place draws in locals for a reason, but it still feels like a great little find if you're just passing through. Came here for lunch seeking affordable eats with great reviews. Unfortunately doesn't hold up under scrutiny. I ordered the spicy chicken sandwich and the chicken was tough and chewy--not tender at all. It was so bad I wanted to quit eating it, but I felt obligated to continue since I'd spent money on it. A few hours after eating the sandwich, I was sent running to the bathroom. I wont extrapolate. I don't recommend. Chicken has bad texture. I won't be back. read more

Walked in sunday morning post concert. The Duchess is a small shop off Olympic, brightly lit, clean, cozy, simple. The staff at the register was very welcoming informative and helpful. The food was great, i ordered the spicy chicken sandwich my girlfriend had the chicken breakfast burrito. Both were delicious their house slaw and ghost pepper mayo was peak. Their fried chicken was fire. Made in houae the dredge is superp, it has that satisfying crunch from the first bite to the last. It comes out pipping hot and tender. There was a bit of a line, but it was a busy Sunday, but they took our orders pretty fast and the food came out relatively quick. When you walk in it smells delicious a little subtle background music very nice ambience.. The highlight of my experience wasn't something I got it was something that my cousin got he got the lemon pepper chicken tenders and if you wanna talk about seasoning seasoned so perfect flavor packed in every bite and he got the three-piece and they were absolutely huge like all three of them could've been on their own sandwiches. They were so delicious nice warm, hot the chipotle, mayo, and the ranch only brought out the lemon pepper even more would highly recommend the chicken tenders. They were perfect. I got the spicy chicken sandwich and a cinnamon roll. Now the chicken sandwich was good great size good portions. My only issue with it is it wasn't spicy. It had great flavors seasoned beautifully. The bun was nice soft warm, melts in your mouth. The chicken was nice juicy crispy absolutely delicious. It just wasn't as spicy as I was expecting, but very delicious. And the cinnamon roll was peak so much flavor packed into it. It was a little bit warm. It was so delicious so good would 100% get both things again. Somehow, despite the excellent food, I found their service and customer interactions the biggest highlight here. I had the Nashville chicken breakfast sandwich and it was very good. Chicken cooked perfectly, Nashville spice was good but not obnoxious, and the breakfast goodies were solid. On second pass I'd stick with a traditional breakfast Sammie or a traditional chicken Sammie, but the food was executed well. Give them a shot. You won't be disappointed read more

They are stuffed with avocado, tatter tots, fried chicken, etc. It is a large burrito and can easily be shared by asking them to cut in half. You cannot go wrong with their fried chicken either. They also have a variety of donuts, and they are pretty decent. Customer service is fantastic. Highly recommend to give this place a try. read more

Really liked this little coffee, donut, and chicken stand. We were looking for something to eat before we headed to a concert at Dodger Stadium. It's located in the theater district around the corner from the Mayan and the Belasco, so there's not a ton of parking in the area. Luckily we were able to find some street spots nearby on a Saturday afternoon. I had an original breakfast burrito with grilled chicken (instead of fried). It had a bacon cheese omlette inside with the chicken, as well as avocado and grilled onions. It was delicious, and really filling because it was solid protein, lol. I also purchase a lemon pistachio donut to go. I haven't tried it yet, but it looks along the lines of Sidecar donuts. The place also serves other chicken like wings & strips, and breakfast sandwiches. They make different coffee based drinks as well. Since it's tiny, the seating is very limited. A lot of the customers seemed to be getting their orders to go. We'll definitely come back again, especially if we're coming to a show at the Belasco. read more

We were headed to an event at Dodger Stadium and decided to stop at Duchess since it was nearby and had some solid reviews and I'm so glad we did! I ordered the crispy chicken sandwich with cheddar, and it was absolutely delicious. The chicken was cooked perfectly crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and clearly made fresh to order. The bun was soft and fresh, the cheese was melty and flavorful, and every bite hit the spot. I got a side of fries, which were also really good, crispy and well seasoned. The sandwich was reasonably priced as well. To take home, I grabbed two donuts: the banana cream and the mini Oreo. While I really wanted to love them, they didn't quite do it for me. The banana cream had a very strong, artificial banana flavor, and the Oreo donut didn't stand out much, just kind of flat in flavor and texture. My friend ordered the breakfast burrito and said it was fantastic, so it's safe to say the savory food here is a strong point. Inside, the space is fairly plain with only a couple of tables, so seating is a bit limited and not ideal for hanging out. But what stood out just as much as the food was the service, both the male and female staff that were working were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and kind, which made the experience even better. Overall, I'd come back for that chicken sandwich any day, maybe skip the donuts next time, but definitely a spot worth visiting before a game. read more

This is a reskin of Birdies, so a lot of the original menu is there. This donut shop was on the way each day from my parking spot to AX, so I finally decided to swoop in to pre-game a snack before dinner. It is SUPER hot in there. They have a small fan going, but it's not somewhere I would want to sit and dine and I felt bad for the poor worker there, but he was friendly and welcoming despite this. I got their: 1) Lemon Pistachio Donut: -Barely any of a pistachio taste to it despite being dominantly a green glaze. Very strong lemon taste to it, completely overpowers everything else. -I'd try a different donut over this. Not that it was bad, just not what I expected. 2) Horchata Latte: -I got this iced and asked if it was possible to adjust the sugar on this. I was informed that it does not come with any additional sugar, just whatever was in the horchata base, so I thought it was okay. -Even after being mixed, it tasted super sweet (more than usual for a horchata) and had a slight artificial taste to it (the coffee flavor, I'm not too sure). -I'd skip this if I had to come back for a drink again. I have been coming here for quite some time and recently stopped here last weekend when I was around the neighborhood. Looks like they changed their name but I guess its been about a year or so but I have been an OG fan when they use to be called Birdies. Anyhow we stopped in last weekend and and from the moment we walked in, the experience was amazing. John was incredibly kind and welcoming, he literally went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of, and his energy honestly made the whole visit feel special. The donuts were unbelievably soft and literally melted in my mouth. We got the blueberry, cinnamon donut and they were sooo good. Lets talk about the chicken sandwich it truly is one of my absolute favorites. It is light, super flavorful and JUICY!!! I'm already planning to come back because their breakfast burrito is next on my list to try. Between the great food, warm atmosphere, and staff who genuinely care, Duchess is definitely a place I'll keep returning to. Highly recommend! Small shop with doughnut and fried chicken. There is only a couple bar tables so mainly a takeout joint. The staff was super nice and was helpful with recommendations. Breakfast chicken sandwich jr. - Crispy fried chicken with a delicious mayo based sauce. In addition there wass an ooey gooey sunnyside up egg. So good. Would highly recommend, especially since the jr is already enough for me. Tots and coffee that came as a combo was a good bonus. The doughnuts were not my favourite. I got the last pistachio lemon donut and it was incredible!! They're freshly made by the baker in the morning. Once he leaves for the day- that's it for donuts. I was lucky to have snagged it. Coffee was also yummy, I got the iced hazelnut latte. Customer service was wonderful. The girl who helped us was very friendly, helpful, and detail oriented. I'll have to come back to try their savory offerings someday; the chicken sandwiches looked great. All in all a great experience. Parking can be a little tricky like much of the rest of DTLA, so you're better off walking. read more

Birdies has now changed names but basically has the same menu items. This is one of those places that you know will be open very late into the night for some midnight munchies. We ordered the spicy chicken sandwich, tater tots, pistachio lemon donut, and a special iced tea for around 26 bucks. They were busy around 1130p but it didn't take to long to receive our order. This place is pretty decent for the cost! I ordered from Duchess (previously Birdies) via Postmates and was pleasantly surprised when a cute little robot delivered my food. I opted for the nutella donut, lavendar matcha, and breakfast burrito with fried chicken. The burrito was quite filling and pretty good. The nutella donut was not overly sweet and was filled with cream. The lavendar matcha was disappointing. I didn't taste any lavendar and the drink was a bit cold when I received my order (although I know it's not their fault). I've tried the sandwiches before and remembered they were pretty tasty! This place is amazing! Service was great, the food was to die for, AND the price is just right! First, the drinks. I got the vanilla chai latte (4.5/5) which is one of the best that I have tried in a while. Perfect amount of spiciness, and the vanilla adds just right amount of sweetness. If you like chai, I highly recommend this place! My bf for the mocha cloud (3.5) which is not my drink of choice but he thought it was pretty good too. We also got a horchata latte (3/5) for the yelp check in and that was just all right. Definitely think the chai is the best one. Next, the food. The chicken sandwich (4/5) tasted great. The bun was great, and the chicken had some heat to it but not too much that it's unbearable. It's also a pretty good size--my boyfriend and I was able to split this since we also got donuts. The donuts were also amazing! The glazed was soft and sweet. It looks like there's not enough glaze but nope it's just right. The Boston crème was amazing. The chocolate glaze was a good balance with the custard in the middle, not too sweet but just enough. I love donuts and this place makes them well. Everyone has to try this place!! This replaced Birdie's, which was right next door. Pretty much the same menu. Even on the donut side. I was just going to get donuts, but then I changed my mind and went with a breakfast chicken sandwich. Everything is made to order, so it may take a minute or 2 or 10. The sandwich was the perfect size. I got it with an over hard egg. Chicken was tender. Bread was soft and the sauce added a nice touch. Then, as I was about to leave, I decided to order 2 donuts. I went with the Nutella (which is not filled, it's just a nutella icing) and the Blueberry. I can't give my reviews on these, yet, because they are the following day's breakfast. But, im sure they are as good as the last time I had some of their donuts. 2 or 3 ladies were working the establishment. It also came with a salsa that complimented the burrito perfectly. They have limited seating but we were able to grab a seat where we were able to enjoy our meal.
