Overload of powdered sugar on beignets
    Jessica H.

Updating my review: the beignets are a favorite among my friends and family. Anyone who visits wants to stop for just multiple orders of beignets lol. The loaded tots are also highly favored. We weren't fans of the gumbo because the roux was too thick or doughy. Maybe we didn't get the best batch. But definitely recommend the rising sun, for some southern kick!

A low-key spot with covered outdoor seating that's a furnished surface parking lot. You're reminded it's a parking lot because the giant water-filled orange & white traffic barriers holds up the the faux wall. I did enjoy the music. Seat yourself, order on your phone, pick up at a window around the corner on the sidewalk, and bus your own table. The only customer service is the interaction at the pick up window, yet I'm saddled with an 18% auto-grat...just raise your menu prices and pay your staff a reasonable non-tipped wage. Food is good...better than good for a pick-up window quick service restaurant. The beignets are yummy and the sauced tater tots were excellent. The fried chicken sliders were dry, either because the chicken was over fried or there wasn't enough slaw...likely both. Would I came again? Probably not...unless I'm already in the area and craving the beignets.

I had some down time for a performance and killed time here. It was a super cute restaurant. The actual inside is reservation only experience. It definitely made me curious and it you drink it may be a fun experience. You make an order through an app and you pick your food up at a window outside. Self serve water. They have single order sliders or a set which I totally appreciated. They also have beignets so people with late night sweet cravings, this is your spot. The slider was super delicious: fluffy bun and juicy burger Their tater tots was a little too salty for my taste but regardless it was fried crispy. A perfect place to try a little bit of everything

So I had done the distillery experience next-door and it's really cool is they handed all of us these different tokens to go and get beignets after so obviously had to go and do that and oh my gosh I am so glad I did because this is one of the best beignets I've ever tasted in my whole entire existence. If you watch my video, you'll hear the crunch of the beignet as I bit into it they had just made them. They were super hot but so delicious. The powdered sugar was melting on it as I ate it. It was absolutely incredible. I wish I could've brought like 500 of them back home with me because it was an experience

This little spot is tucked away in the arts district of DTLA. It has a dark edgy NOLA vibe with its black concrete and black iron covered with ivy. There is a coveted patio on one side that has black garden tables. You order using the QE code and pick up your food at a walk up window. Someone did bring out our cocktails however. I highly recommend the signature cocktail which has their distilled liquor. My party and I shared the sliders and gumbo which were all very good.

Stopped by for brunch on a Saturday and was pleasantly surprised at this super cute New Orleans style alleyway patio space in DTLA. You order with a QR code on the table and can add to your tab whenever you want without needing to get a server. You can also order to go at the window. There is one server for the patio in case you have questions. We got the breakfast burrito and breakfast po boy along with 2 coffees and the beignets to go at the end. The burrito and po boy were delicious! Huge portions and full of snappy sausage, crispy tots (in the burrito) and the po boy had a rich remoulade. The beignets were a lot sweeter and flakier than most I've had in the past which were more airy. But very good and they come with raspberry preserves. I will say our one note was that everything took a really long time to come out as did other tables from what we saw. We spent about 2 hours here total, mostly waiting. We also ordered a brunch cocktail and didn't receive it until the very end of our meal. It might have been a one off staff shortage or something. We do hope to come back again for the great food and vibes.

Ambiance here; garden-vibe looks, self seating, quiet upon arrival, and a large parking lot; says to pay but no one on site taking payments, ok to park for the event. It's a small area where you can choose to sit where you want, nice little fires lit in between tables to provide some warmth as you wait for the event to open their doors. I could be wrong, but the menu was different last night in the evening and it was very limited compared to what I see posted here on Yelp. Upon walking in, you self-seat yourself and use a QR code to scan their menu and order through there. No staff members on site, they are just in the kitchen and you pick up your order at the window on the side street of the location. Again, limited menu items, pretty much sliders : beef, fried chicken or pulled pork. I opted for the burgers sliders; presentation was nice, nothing out of the world. Served on a plastic tray, three lined up sliders served on pretzel buns. The beef patties themselves were on the salty side, unsure if they over did it seasoning the patties, but for sure some bites were more salty than others. 3/5 I also ordered one of their spirit drinks: the "Bayou Dew" refreshing vodka drink, not too strong. 2/5 It was decent enough to hold me through the event next door. In conclusion, no I wouldn't come back.

My bestie and I chose to visit The Rising Sun for our favorite meal of the day - brunch! It was a chill experience. Very low-key, good food, but overall, I'd give it 4 stars out of 5. Summary: Beautiful dining experience for brunch on the patio, one server mainly to deliver the food and drinks you ordered, but utensils, water, sweetener for coffee, and cold/hot teas are all self serve. It's not an issue, just a fact. The food was good, but I need a bit more of the "cajun" vibe. It was chill, but not super exciting. I'm curious as to what a dinner experience indoors is like because I went inside to use the bathroom, and it looks SO cool.  I'll revisit and revise based on that. Additional details for those of you who like a novel: It was a really pretty brunch setting,  the plants are lovely, and the setup gives garden vibes. Plus, there's enough coverage from the sun that the heat isn't oppressive. As mentioned above, the server is pretty much there during brunch to give you menus and deliver your order, and you're left to your own devices. It's very DIY, so if you're looking for a more involved experience where you're served in a different way, then I don't think this is the spot for you. The website also claims a "jazz brunch," and I don't even remember hearing music playing, so that was a bit of a letdown. Even though the setting was lovely and the food was good, I didn't get that Cajun, Creole, New Orleans vibe that I expected, but maybe my expectations were too high. Speaking of food, I felt like they added andouille sausage, some extra seasoning, and beignets and went "Yup, it's Cajun." I would've LOVED to see grits on this menu, which I know they had at one point. A Cajun inspired brunch menu without some sort of shrimp and grits option seems like a miss to me, but I'd like to go back for dinner to see if I get more of the Cajun vibe. The food we did order was very good. I got the breakfast po'boy, and my friend got the bacon egg and cheese, both with tots, iced coffee, and hibiscus lemonades. Not bad for a Sunday brunch and good if you're making last-minute plans, but expect something chill and easy. Delicious enough for 4 stars, but I'm holding onto that 5th one until I experience dinner.

Update: This is to respond to the manager. If this is a self-serve and not a real sit-down restaurant, then don't ask for a tip. Also, this place is listed as a restaurant and not a quick fast food place. Besides that the food is basic. I gave this place a try since I was in the neighborhood. You have to order your food from a QR code. I ordered the cheeseburger without their sauce. I wanted grilled onions on my burger, but they said that they didn't do that. This place reminds me of a fast food restaurant because after we got our food, we didn't see the waiter again. They did say that we would get a text message when our food was ready, and then we had to go to the side window for our food. To our surprise, they brought the food out to us. To be honest, my burger wasn't anything special. It reminded me of a burger at Chili's. The fries were good and well seasoned. The outside seating is okay, well covered to keep the sun out of your face. Will I return to this place? I doubt it.

You can find some of the best beignets in town here! I also swear by their po'boy sandwich, soo yummy. This was my second visit here and both times were for brunch, which is on weekends only. Here's a breakdown of our orders: Po'Boy - Their andouille sauage and the remoulade sauce really make this sandwich special. The ciabatta bread is so incredibly soft as well. This sandwich is just packed with flavor and I will be coming back just to eat this again. Cajun brekkie burrito - With the same sausage as the po'boy, this item is also packed with bacon, egg, cheese, onions and bell peppers, all tied together with their creole seasoning. My friend loved hers! Chicken & waffle - This was served with a side of maple syrup and honey butter. The tots cost an extra $ and were so crispy and also seasoned with their creole salt! Beignets - The star of the show IMO. You must order these. It comes with 3 per order. I love that the outside is so crispy and powdery from the sugar while the inside is light and airy. It comes with whipped cream and a delicious strawberry compote. The only downside is they're a bit small in size Hibiscus tea - This drink is unsweetened, and there was a nice balance of it being a little tangy and bitter but still allowing the hibiscus flavor to come through. As for service, you order through a QR code at your table and apparently you're supposed to grab your food at the window, but the waitress brought everything to us anyway! The atmosphere is inviting and we enjoyed having the New Orleans jazz music in the background. There is a restroom inside. The prices are incredibly reasonable for what you get and the quality of the food. Parking is easy, as there are many non-metered spots right across. Overall, I would highly recommend~!!

Decided to check this place out since it's just down the street. You order from a QR code on the table and pay on it too and they'll bring the order out to you. The chicken and waffle was pretty good, I liked the butter and syrup. The blacken shrimp po boy was small but packed with flavors. I liked the fresh greens in it too, the bread was a bit hard though. They also serve drinks here. You sit in this small outdoor area which is pretty peaceful for downtown although the table is uneven since it's set up in a parking lot.

First off, I have to praise 1933 group because I have loved every single bar they have revitalized and this one is no different. In keeping with their MO, The Lucky Tiki is a speakeasy with a vintage vibe. I won't give away how to get in but let's just say, it's near the front of Highland Park Bowl. My husband and I didn't have a reservation, but we were able to put our name in and got seated about an hour or so later. I was amazed as soon as I walked in the door! It's just floor to ceiling decorated with everything tiki. So many fun details and even interactive elements that turn on when a particular drink was ordered. That was probably my favorite part honestly. We ordered the Tiki Diablo, which is a large tiki drink with a flaming volcano. And yes it does have an interactive element. It was really good. Very fruity and strong, but not overly so. Service was excellent. Our waitress was on it and even waited to make sure my husband was back from the bathroom before lighting our drink on fire. We didn't try any food this time, but a lot of people were ordering the Hawaiian pizza. Do with that what you may. Will definitely be back ti try more drinks and food. A group of my friends and I have come here three different times, really wanting to like this place because the atmosphere is beautiful and lively. Unfortunately, each visit has been consistently disappointing due to the same bartender--a shorter male with visible tattoos and facial hair, who seems to regularly work one side of the bar. On all three occasions, we experienced being ignored while trying to order, even as other guests who arrived after us were served first. The first time, we were eventually told "you guys can wait" in a rude tone of voice while he continued taking other orders. The second time, we were never helped at all and had to move to another part of the bar, where a female bartender provided much better service. The third visit was the most concerning. When we tried to get his attention, he responded in a dismissive and rude tone, and as he walked away, we overheard him make an inappropriate comment about us under his breath calling us out of our name and we felt very disrespected so much so that we just left. We completely understand that weekends can get busy, but consistently dismissive and disrespectful service--especially across multiple visits--is not acceptable and we've also seen him be rude to other guests as well. Aside from this issue, the venue itself is great, which is why we gave it multiple chances. I really hope management can address this, as it impacts the overall appearance and experience of the establishment. Thank you.

Took some friends here who were visiting and wanted a Speakeasy experience…read more It was maybe 9:30/10pm on a Friday and it wasn't super busy. We were able to get a seat on the coach and order drinks from the bar relatively quickly. Prices were pretty typical of LA ($18-25 a cocktail) but I would say I probably won't come back this late as it's in a shadier part of town. They have a bouncer and it was fine inside, but it's not a place where you can bar hop if that's what you're looking for as the area is seedy. Would be interested to try the food next time, but again, the safety and comfort of the light of day.

NOVEMBER 26.2025…read more I've been through many iterations of The Library Bar over the years... from small and cozy secret bar for those that work in the looming skyscrapers of Downtown LA to being some noisy urban hip hop affair that served godawful drinks (see my past review!), and on back to being a calm and casual neighborhood bar again. The interior never changes... dark... illuminated by candlelight... the bust of Shakespeare over the fireplace, the shelves of old books-- all of it remains intact. But this latest Library Bar seems to have finally dialed in what was always sorely missing in that it showcases a conscientious staff that all seem to know how to mix drinks while treating the customer well by leaving them be. On one night my date and I share a "Black Manhattan," basically a Manhattan with the generous addition of Averna, and it's terrific. On another night, I go for Happy Hour and a few pints of Guinness on draft that are surprisingly proper and go well with their excellent and, I'm told, homemade Hummus & Veggies Plate. The music at this current Library Bar is pretty much on point and is never so loud as to interfere with the conversations that patrons seem to come here for... something you should come here for too, and maybe at Happy Hour specifically if you're looking for a nice bump in your day and to spend an hour, well, happily.

We had two separate servers because one went home during the middle of our dinner and both were equally horrible. Not even exaggerating when I say we waited at least 15 minutes after we asked for the check and there were probably only 10 tables in the entire restaurant. And we had to call her back over to ask for a second time. SMH. The food although flavorful was so ridiculously priced it was not even funny. I got a "ribeye ". Was literally eight thin slices of steak, like 1" x 1" size for $42! No, I will not be coming back here for so many reasons. The view is great. Castaways is definitely not what it used to be in the way of quality but at least you get more and you get the view. But definitely not worth it going to this place. It was quite a frustrating evening. Also, if you do decide to go here, just bring a coat when it's a little bit cooler in the evenings cause it does get cold up here and getting the staff to manage the heaters correctly is a whole other frustration. Oh, and valet is your only option for parking up here. It's kind of crazy because a few years ago you could just go park in the lot or the garage that's available there but now they're charging you $11 and it's chaos. I will say that the view up here is great though so if you're willing to forgo all of that for a view for like a one time date or something like that, it might be worth it
