Ventured into Hi Ho at the height of Friday dinner time, when the whole Sportsmen's Lodge shopping & dining nook was packed with people, including at least 75 kids under the age of 6. Yowza! Luckily, Hi Ho wasn't quite as busy as the pizza and ice cream shops, but there were still quite a few folks, and the staff did manage to tend to everyone nicely. If you haven't been, Hi Ho is a simple, fast food burger joint in terms of decor, but the menu (from the same people who own Matu) is a small, curated selection of very high quality options: mostly Wagyu burgers in a few different configurations, and chicken tenders + some very good, hand cut fries. This time I opted for the Pastrami Heat, a double cheeseburger fortified with spicy grilled onions and a not-too-large topper of Wagyu pastrami. I don't usually go for such an elaborate burger, but I just had a hankering. And while I won't say the burger was small, it was not as ridiculously enormous as you might get other places. The double patties were juicy and flavorful, nicely seasoned and coated in properly melted American cheese. The spicy grilled onions did pack a nice punch, but there weren't a lot of them, so their effect was minimal (definitely could use more of those). House-made pickles were pleasingly artisan, with a layered, briny flavor far more enjoyable than the commercial dill chips usually deployed. Finally, the Wagyu pastrami was really quite good. Marbled and juicy without be too fatty or too rich, thinly shaved and portioned just large enough to make its presence known without becoming unwelcome halfway through. Though decadent for sure, this was an enjoyable treat that was only about 50% guilt-inducing. Fries were fresh, hot, crispy and well done, cooked in beef tallow. Also a treat. Prices are in line with what you're paying at other fast casual burger places like Five Guys or Burger Lounge, but the quality here is definitely a step above, so you could almost say it's a deal. Of course, if you also stop into neighboring Erewhon for a smoothie, your budget will be blown. read more

HiHo Burgers seriously serves one of the best burgers I've ever had. Their wagyu burger is incredible and you can taste the quality immediately. It's juicy, flavorful, and somehow still simple and perfectly balanced without needing a bunch of unnecessary extras. What really says everything though is that it's kid approved. Kids can be some of the toughest food critics, and this burger passes the test every time. If a wagyu burger can impress both adults and kids, you know they're doing something right. Everything always tastes fresh and well made, and the consistency is great. It's the kind of place where you go in expecting a good burger and somehow it still manages to exceed expectations. I also tried a strawberry shake that was basic, pretty much flavoring added to vanilla shake. The service is friendly and willing to give recommendations but their role is really to take and make your order not necessarily serve you. Inside is small but they have a good amount of tables that clear quickly, as most people come in, eat and go. This is a place you can come to with friends, family, or on a date (bonus points if your date would prefer grass fed beef). Overall it was a good experience. read more

I crave a burger every once in a while, and HiHo Cheeseburger did not disappoint at all! I went with a friend who has to eat halal, and this was perfect since their beef is halal. The only thing was that the pastrami on the burger was halal, just not certified - my friend didn't mind though. We ordered a regular cheeseburger and one of their pastrami burgers. The man who took our order was very nice and friendly, and also happy to answer our questions regarding if the meat was halal - just to check. He also answered questions about portions, which made ordering really easy. We got our food after a bit of a wait (but no worries), and we sat down. The restaurant itself was nice and clean, and it was pretty calm when we went. The burger patty was so juicy and smoky, and the rest of the ingredients and sauce went along with it perfectly. I thought the burger looked a little small, but after eating it, I was pretty satisfied. My friend said he could've eaten more. Receipt states they are a "No Tipping Establishment", however the bill has a line item which states "Fee". The cashier was not able to understand our order clearly. Order was corrected swiftly. DEAD SPIDER found on food box. BE WARE! I found a dead spider and smear on the burger box. I ordered via Uber, and when I took the burger box out of the bag, a dead black spider fell out. I opened the box and saw a smear inside, which made it even more disturbing! So I'm assuming and it looks like whoever packaged it may have seen it and even tried to kill it! The first photos are from right when I discovered the spider and opened the box. After that, I picked it up with a napkin and threw the box away, but had to take more pictures later (including the spider on the napkin and the burger out on a plate) because Uber asked for additional proof for a refund. I tried calling the restaurant but couldn't get through, so I emailed and am waiting for a response. This was my first time ordering from here, and it will definitely be my last... GROSS! I absolutely love cheeseburgers, always have, always will. In recent years we do ground turkey for a healthier choice, but I do indulge in the occasional beef version. I'd rename this place HoHum for starters. Counterman was very helpful. We ordered double cheese smashburgers and sides of fries. Meat was best part of the sandwhich, which is somewhere between a slider and a real sized sandwich, for $9.95. Overpriced. Fries from scratch much better, also small size, for $4.95, also overpriced. Side of ranch, very small for $1.75 each, also overpriced, ordered 3. Ranch was excellent. Check totaled $40.77, which included a mystery $2.10 fee. Not going back here; so many other places we prefer. Counterman would not accept a tip for some reason. read more

I'm putting 4 stars but my true rating is 3.5 stars. Ordered "The Big Matty" ($10.95) which is a HiHo double with matty sauce. The menu doesn't really describe what exactly is in the burger besides the double patty and not ketchup. They use shredded lettuce which is actually the one thing I dislike in a burger because it feels like it's just falling apart with every bite and gets too messy. The burger was good, but not the most amazing thing I've ever eaten. Meat was flavorful which is always appreciated. I'm actually not sure what their Matty Sauce is made of but it was still yummy. Also tried the Hand-Cut Fries ($4.95) which are just your good ol' basic fries. They appear dark brown but they're not well done and crunchy. Still soft with a bit of a crunch. They come in a paper bag with a lot of holes so they don't lose their crisp. Their prices are extremely reasonable especially in this area, but I also feel like I got what I paid for anyway. They advertise that they serve 100% grass fed wagyu beef that comes from First Light Farms so I thought that's cool they let everyone know exactly where they are sourcing their meat. They also seem to make their fries fresh from whole potatoes, buns from a local baker, milkshakes with house-made ice cream and pickles are also made in-house. Good little place if you need a quick bite and craving burger and fries, or there's even honey tenders and chicken tender sandwich that also sound good on the menu. One of my absolute favorite places to get burgers. This location is pretty nice with shops to meander through to walk off a great meal. I got the HiHo Double, the Ashton fries and their chocolate shake. That burger was phenomenal...juicy patties with the slow cooked onions make the best combo with the house made pickles that cut through the richness of the beef. I love that they use ketchup and mustard instead of a spead of sorts because it really does make the flavor of the beef shine through. The Ashton fries...probably my favorite way to eat fries. The pastrami was amazing, and I don't really care for pastrami unless it's Katz's or Langer's. And even with the hot pastrami, the slow cooked onions and the cheese sauce, the fries were crispy and not overly salty! The shake...liquid ice cream. Perfect way to wash down the meaty, salty, umani goodness of the meal in between bites. Gotdamnnnnnn! If you like burgers...this is a MUST try. You will not be disappointed! Ok, first time here, seen it on the news this morning on ktla 5, decided to try it, the hamburgers are tasty but I don't like the after taste I get after I burp. The fries are really good. Been here a few times with the grandkids on a Saturday. Perfect place for a quick lunch that doesn't break the bank with 3 kids. Also it's reasonably healthy compared to so many "fast food type" places. They each eat one burger and share 1order of French fries (per parent instructions)... Service is order at the counter and they give you a buzzer when the food is ready, pretty simple. The place itself is quite minimalistic inside, and does have a fair amount of outdoor seating too. As Grandparents we just follow the orders of our kids (haha) and this place is approved for the kiddos. They love going and my husband and I enjoy taking them all there for lunch. They have a huge parking lot, so that's never been a problem. And my husband can always get his coffee fix next door at Civil. It's a win win. Oh and if the kiddos are really lucky that day (parent approval of course) there's ice cream nearby too! So you just can't go wrong coming here. read more

Hands down my FAVORITE burger place ever, and has been for years. I usually go to the Marina Del Rey location, but I happen to be in the area so I ate here for my birthday. Hiho's burger meat always taste so delicious and good quality, and has the perfect portion to where you're full but not too stuffed. They're beef is also wagyu and grass fed, and the fries are tasty and well-seasoned too! They even gave me a free shake for my birthday. The only thing I'd complain about is that to get ranch it's $1 (which is ridiculous). I think these are twice-fried Belgian style. Super crispy, but soft on the inside. Fried evenly throughout and not a single dull fry. These are artisan level fries, bro. Probably should've gotten the shake, but saving the calories for dinner. Anyway, really solid burger joint with a decent price point, especially around these parts. Been wanting to try HiHo for some time and we finally came out since we were craving a burger . Staff is very friendly and plenty of indoor and outdoor dining. Simple menu with a few items and looks like everything is high quality. We ordered their HiHo burger comes as a double and you can upgrade to triple. It's not a real smash burger but that's how it was explained to us. I would have preferred it to be a more smashed so maybe I will ask for next time. We also ordered the Loaded fries and regular fries and the chicken tender. The chicken tender was my favorite with the perfect balance of crispy and sweet. We absolutely love HiHo cheeseburger! We first tried it in SaMo and when we found out it would open in studio city we had to make this our local place for burgers other than in n out. Hehe We already love "The shops at sportsmen lodge" so this was a huge bonus! Now for the burgers, love loveee them all. The double cheeseburger and cheeseburger are equally delicious. If you've hopped on the Smashburger trend you know that the patties are thin but HiHo is special as they use 100% grass fed wagyu beef. Since they are thin, you have the choice to order a double or even triple patty. I make special as I get a classic cheeseburger by adding the pastrami and Oooo weee so good! 10/10 They also have the Spicy pastrami HiHo on the menu which is a double cheeseburger with pastrami and spicy onion jam, amazingly good. 10/10 Now the fries, they are hand cut fries and for this it can be a hit or miss for me as they can be very burnt but overall, they're delicious and flavorful. Their made from scratch shakes are so creamy and tasty, I got the vanilla shake and it was creamy. Service here is great and very attentive as we were waiting for a table once and one of the bussers made sure to find us one and clean it up for us. So sweet! It can get quite busy inside but you can order and take your food to eat outside as their is a beautiful eating area out. Sportsmen's Lodge is located in the heart of Studio City on Coldwater Canyon/Ventura Blvd. It also has recently become an outdoor mall with shopping, dining, and wellness. This is a great place for date night, meeting with friends, or spending too much on groceries (cc: Erewhon). Luckily there is plenty of free parking for the first 90 minutes. I know the Smashburger hype still has not gone down yet but HiHo is still definitely worth checking out. Their burgers are made from 100% grass fed Wagyu so you know you're about to eat a cheeseburger that has quality meat. The service here is excellent and efficient, you don't have to wait a long time for your food. If you're tired of a thin pressed Smashburger, order the HiHo double and it will introduce you to the new modern, traditional cheeseburger. read more

Came in here with a friend for brunch. She ordered her food and then I did, I paid for both ours. When I got the receipt I just put it in my bag. Once I got home and cleaned out my bag I took a look at the receipt and noticed I was charged an extra burger. No wonder one of the guys brought it over to our table but we let him know it wasn't ours. He should have figured he charged me for it and should have offered me a refund. Because he did come over and said "sorry for the mix up!" But I never thought he actually charged me for it too.
