My favorite place to get anything with bread. 1. It's always fresh. Fay Da or Taipan (larger bakery chain stores in Flushing and all over) do not get as fresh as this. And their breads are usually warm if not hotter but never cold because they have those heat things on it to keep it warm. Other chain bakers have gotten bread hanging out there and getting cold and disgustingly hard. 2. They have specialties you cannot get anywhere else. Ex. chicken bun (totally a meal if you want it to be - savory, crunchy, slightly spicy, yet fluffy and soft on the inside - goodness all at once. Even if something IS sold somewhere else. They give a larger potion and its hotter. 3. Their top sellers actually now can only be requested because the demand is so high they can't just have them outside on the shelf anymore. How can you not go to this place - the bakery is really small and their products must be requested aka the locals think its great so GO. 4. Drinks are also pretty good. You can also request no sugar to the teas or coffee if you're not a fan of sweet things. 5. THIS PLACE IS CHEAPER THAN ANY OTHER FREAKING BAKERY AROUND. Do i need to say more? Better quality AND quantity for less. yes - go. (interesting fact - the workers from Fay Da, the bakery around the corner, actually come here to eat baked goods on their afternoon break- how is that for good?) The trays come out every so often so there's always a fresh batch of SOMETHING coming out. Personally I don't even care what comes out - if its hot - you cannot go wrong. I read the reviews on the chicken on bun. I decided to give it a try. No one mentioned that the bread was sweet. The bread tastes like the dunkin donuts glazed donut. They also added the sauce which I didn't know what it was, like a ketchup type. They put lettuce and cucumber which made the taste a bit fresh. Thw bun is made in advance like McD or BBK so don't expect the chicken to be hot or even warm. But for those that like a bit of sweetness to their food. This chicken on bun would be good for you. This place has literally never changed for years. If you're looking for a place to get the best pineapple buns in NYC, this is your place. It's about $1 give or take a few cents for the most delicious and fresh buttered pineapple buns. Other pastries are all about the same price, if you're going to ball out here I think the most expensive item with individual pastries will draw you back a whopping $2.50. Great selection of freshly baked breads and cakes. The prices are reasonable, the individual breads range from 1-2 dollars. I love their chicken bun, its a perfect lunch. I also get a glass of ovaltine everytime I'm there. The flaky curry puff is one of my favorite items, they make it with the most perfectly flaky pastry filled with just the right amount of curry chicken. Parking is a little bit of a hassle, I don't love the head-in parking in front of the bakery so I usually park in the adjacent lot or on the street. read more

The staff works quick and gets you in and out in a jiffy. You hand select your own buns with tongs and bring them to the register to pay. Personal favorite is their chasiu (pork) bun. There are very few food items that I would go the long mile for and the CHICKEN BUNS here are one of them! They make them fresh everyday and costs about $1.25 and becomes a very satisfying lunch. OMG, if there was a bakery like this in my neighborhood I'd weigh 400 lbs. Upon entry, Scallion pork bread creations abound. Fear not whities, they also provide coffee to wash it all down. (and it's that awesome sweetened coffee that over ice creates a great soothing combination.) I also tried some buns stuffed with Taro deliciousness as well as one that had hot dog/ and scallions. I brought these on the plane ride back to SF and I can safely say we had the best food on the plane. read more

Carnation Bakery is a small cafe on the corner of Kissena and Holly that offers freshly baked Asian goods. The bread, no matter what time you pop in, is usually still warm! The bakery is always hectic and packed in the morning. While on "line" (there isn't really a line - think of it like like a small crowd waiting to get on the bus), some people tend to shout orders to the ladies behind the counter and reach over your shoulder to pay for their baked goods even if you're in the front.... So I'd highly reccommend to not go here in the morning. In the afternoon and evening however, the bakery is much calmer. The ladies that work behind the counter primarily speak Mandarin - they aren't good at speaking english, but they can understand it most of the time. Usually they'll repeat the order back to you just to make sure that they're going to make what you wanted regardless of the language. They like taking their time every so often, but that's ok with me since a quality drink made slower is always better than a crappy drink that's made in 10 seconds. I don't really like the baked goods because I'm not a big fan of Chinese breads in general. The sponge bread, lemon danish, or the chicken/fish bun sandwich-like thing are what I'd usually get. The bubble tea is to kill for when the tapioca is chewy. The tapioca is a total hit or miss - usually it's at the perfect level of chewiness, but at other times, it's a little bit undercooked so the center is still slightly hard. I find that the regular bubble tea is too sweet, so I always ask for less sugar in mine. The seats are normally taken and the tables are sometimes shared because it's a small bakery. I live a few blocks away so I usually bring whatever I buy back home to eat or drink. They recently increased their prices. You can't get anything less than a dollar anymore. Now I like their butter bread the most. The Denmark twist shrinked in size and also got expensive. I came here on a Saturday afternoon to grab a bite to eat while I was on break doing a wedding shoot. It was a pretty small bakery, with self service, and the hot dog bun that I got had been sitting out for awhile. As you got to select your own buns, I figured it'd be quick to just pay and go, but alas, I was wrong. It took me at least 3-4 minutes to pay for my two buns because the people behind the counter were just taking their sweet little time. I lovvvveee this bakery.. No ambiance, limited seating and some rude people shove their way in front of me sometimes, but I keep coming back.. The service is courteous and swift and the manager is very hospitable... All the beverages, buns, breads and cakes are delicious and more reasonably priced than their competition in the same shopping area and also compared to others in Flushing .. I live a block away and the sweet smell of freshly made buns is always enticing! Very good buns, always warm and yummy and loved the cake in the cooler. It is light and not too sweet. I can eat the whole cake by myself. I go there almost everyday for my morning breakfast. I like the way they make my tea with lemon. They are not stingy with the lemon so my tea tasted very lemony. I have to admit, the customers that goes there are rude and the counter ladies are horrible. They talk too much to each other and take their good old time. Just collect the money, damn it.
