Worst customer service I have ever experienced. Went in to purchase a car and the sales person gave zero information regarding the car besides to be back within an hour for test driving. Once we were finished we asked about another car, to which he had zero information. We came back the next day to take a look at it and potentially purchase the car that we did end up buying. We were not offered the extended warranty. We were not offered any more information regarding the car. When I did start it to check the insides, it was still extremely dirty and when I asked about a sound, he said it was normal. When we signed and assured that everything was okay, the car was not washed. It was not cleaned. Even something as small as the bow on the hood was never given. After bringing it home, and actually washing it, water was leaking into the tail light. I brought it to another CarMax to get checked and they were shocked it wasn't checked before. Now I brought my car back to the CarMax where they are still fixing the light and I brought a few sounds to their attention, the air conditioner wasn't blowing at the right temperature only to find out that so far my car that was "normal" is totaling $1,600.00 in repairs and we still are waiting for the final result of what else needs to be taken care of. This car is a 2020 and thinking it was due for all of these repairs never crossed our minds when we were at the dealership, seeing how we were told everything was okay. Nothing was ran through the service department to check the integrity of the car with the dealership. When we asked about purchasing the extended warranty still, we were told false information from the sales person we dealt with. They claimed we "adamantly denied" the option, when in reality, we were never given the option. When we asked the manager, we were told "we have never and will never offer the warranty once you leave the dealership". I am shocked and appalled with the customer service regarding selling cars that clearly need to be checked prior to purchasing. The lack of compassion given to customers at this location is more than disappointing and had I known this is how they treat families I would have gladly taken my business elsewhere. read more

I had an awful experience at this Carmax. my wife and I went in with our baby and asked to see electric SUV's. the associate told us to walk a portion of the lot. we walked for about 20 minutes and there were none. it was a lot of walking in the some to do with a 9 month old baby in the sun. I told him there were none out there and asked him to help me and he sat us down and started to show me how to use the website. I knew how to use the website but wanted to go in to get help in person. he said that's all he could do and refused to help us further. he was rude and not helpful at all. I went into purchase a car that they had out of state and to trade in my car. I would recommend selling your car to carmax, but only purchasing a car from carmax if you are going to finance it through someone else. I was able to sell my mazda CX5 no problem. They gave me a good quote. The whole process was quick. Super grateful for the stress free process. Purchasing the car from Carmax was a process. We knew it would take time to get the car here from arizona, but didn't realize it would take so long. Even after it arrived we still didn't hear form carmax for nearly a week waiting for their inspection to be completed. After three weeks of waiting the hyundai palisade was finally ready. We loved it and were ready to purchase. I have good credit and wanted to know what rate they would offer me. They ran my credit and told me that they would finance my car at 6%! that's ridiculous. For a second I was doubting how good my credit was and even felt a little embarassed. When I finally received my credit report via snail mail I saw that my credit score is 820 and still my car payment would have been about $740. There was no way. Luckily I went to my credit union and they didn't even run my credit I was preapproved for the loan at a 2.7%. I would recommend that you walk in with the intention of being financed through another bank. My payment is over a hundred dollars less. I did end up the purchasing the car and it works great. We stopped into CarMax after spending the previous day at Ford. We only looked at 2 cars at Ford and test drove one and with getting an appraisal on our truck we were there 4+ hours. We had the opportunity to look at several options that fit our budget at CarMax and ended up finding the perfect suv. They also gave us $2000 more for our trade in than Ford would. I recently visited the Carmax dealer in Murrieta to look at a 2016 Honda Accord. After test driving the car, i inspected the exterior and noticed the passenger side headlight was new, and the drivers side was faded and pitted. The car also had brakes that were grinding when coming to a stop, which shouldn't happen since they were supposedly just replaced by this dealership. I also asked about maintenance on the car since it was at 86K and would most likely need a timing belt replaced. This is where the funny stuff started with the sales person Claudia V. I asked to see a carfax because I believed the car had been in an accident, which she seemed hesitant at first. Upon pulling up the carfax, it was revealed that the car was in fact in a recent accident. I also asked about the brakes and was told grinding brakes are normal when replaced. When I asked about the maintenance on the car related to the mileage, it was suggested that I didn't know much about these cars, which I've already owned 2 previous Honda Accords. When I asked about any considerations regarding pricing since it was found that the car was in fact in a recent accident, the brakes had apparent problems (even though they would need to fix if I were to purchase this car), and the lack of knowledge about maintenance (timing belt replacement would most likely run $800-$1000 from a local automotive shop once driven off the lot), the sales person Claudia suggested that if I couldn't afford the car that I should go back out on the lot and find one that I could better afford. Based on that, I will never return to this shady dealership for anything. Needless to say, I started my search over again and purchased the same care, less miles, never in an accident for about $2K more than the car at Carmax. Joe in service is a liar. I left my moms car for 2 weeks for repairs, front bumper was cracked, splash guard was off and he literally didn't repair anything other than the crack on the bumper. Lied to me to my face that the splash guard was inserted. I trusted this dealer to take care of everything and I get home to it being in the same condition. I can't believe the audacity to lie to my face that he took care of everything and we were in a horrible rental by the way where the seats didn't even work and it jerked when accelerating. I sold my car to CarMax in late April early May and received a check for $1500.00. Unfortunately, someone in there business center was not doing their job correctly and since June of 2022 I started receiving toll road violations. The car I sold to CarMax is still in my name and thus far I have received 15 delinquent toll violations totaling to $1,519.32, Registration hold from the DMV, if I do not pay the toll charges TCA can file a civil judgement and notice of vehicle suspension. I have called multiple times spoken with employees in their business office, emailed documents over and I am still getting these toll road violations. Is it just me? Or has anyone experience major issues with their car after purchasing it a year ago? I did with mine and was very disappointed beyond belief and all I got was "sorry your experiencing these issues." You want to know what those issues were?! Let me enlighten you. They ranged from engine problems to transmission problem to front axle problems to electrical problem in the cabin. How this car even passed inspection is beyond me!!!!! Initially, I bought my car at the Escondido location in the later part of 2018 with the idea that I had a rock solid car I could enjoy for years to come and show it to all of my friends. That idea was nothing short of pure embarrassment on me and stunned me for even thinking such a thing. What I was told at the time the problems began was that I have nothing to worry about because the diagnostic tests prove that everything was OK. I knew different and wasn't completely sold on it. Shortly after I moved to Murrieta, I had dropped off my car for more diagnostic test at the Carmax location in Murrieta only discover my worst fears of the nightmare of issues that followed one after the other, which brings me to the latter. They sold me LEMON car!!! This experience has been one of the worst in my life and I don't care to EVER again! For the past three months, I have gone back and forth with Carmax Headquarters in Virginia to help rectify this problem, and each time I called them, practically begging for help, all I got was "Sorry MR. Britt that you're having all these problems with your car. We'll see what we can do." That was the short version of the stick. I don't need expound upon the hand writing on the wall, which pretty much sums up to a LEMON CAR that I bought with major issues that were just waiting to emerge. My 2010 V6 Honda Accord was priced at $13,000. When I added 5 year warranty, it was apprwhopping $16,000 before I drove it off the lot. I loved. I repeat LOVED my car and was happy to make payments. Buy how can I or ANYBODY feel any joy in making payments on a car that was in sad shape? In order to fix this problem with my car, you don't apologize and then offer a menial appraisal and then insult my intelligence with an upside down balance, which would put me several thousand dollars in the hole, which is a wonderful way to ruin anyone's credit with a big debt. What you do is pay off the loan for selling me a broken car and then start from scratch with a car I can actually be happy driving away with. But will Carmax stand by their great customer service they advertise to millions of people? Or will they blow me off to say it's my problem for buying the car in the first place? read more

I bought a 2014 VW Jetta for 11K...and a 29% APR , in August 2020..which was ridiculous! And as soon as I left the dealership and got on the freeway..the hub cap flew off! Ok, I have been told that this is an unusual situation and I believe them. However, for my "unusual" situation, I have had my fuel topped off a few times and they upgraded one of my loaner vehicles to a van. I bought a Chevrolet captiva from them. Listed on the list of repairs done was an exhaust leak. My family and I drove for a few days and noticed an exhaust smell in the cab. After determining that it wasn't coming from other vehicles I bought it in for repairs. They said they forgot to reconnect the exhaust hose? They reconnected it and replaced the air filter. A week or so passed and I could swear there was another leak. So I take it in again only to be told that there was no leak just the shielding was welded this time. A week or so goes by and my family and I all smell it. We put it all together that we had all been sick, so I take the car back and am told there was a leak. I take my family to the emergency room where we test high for carbon monoxide. So, we let carmax know and their remedy is to take the car back and sell us another one. We go buy another car with the same sales gimmicks. A jeep patriot. We are all very happy with it for a few days until the smell of coolant is undeniable, the engine shakes, the suspension creaks, and there is clicking under the hood when it is off. Took it back. BLOWN HEAD GASKET. How could this be? It didn't even overheat! Car is in their shop for 3 weeks while I'm moving. First I will say this was the easiest car buying process I've ever dealt with! HOLDING THE CAR & TEST DRIVING: I found a Kia Sorento on the carmax app & out it on hold for a week. That alone is awesome! They are potentially losing a sale on that vehicle but will hold it for you until you can come test drive it. I live an hour & a half away from Murrieta so holding it was the best option. I got a call & email from Carmichael who said he would be my salesperson. He just wanted some info on me, my trade in and to confirm. He never bothered me by calling constantly like a lot of other sales guys, it was one conversation. Come Saturday, a week later, and I head out. I got a call from Tom saying he would be my salesperson since Carmichael was out & wanted to make sure I was still coming. Once I got there Tom took us straight to the car. He didn't hover over us as we looked at it which I appreciated. He kept his distance and answered questions when asked. We went for a test drive and he was so relatable. I didn't feel like I was in the car with a pushy salesman, more like a family friend. He was also very patient. We fell in love with it. So we went inside to see what can be done. FINANCING & TRADE IN: Now the price on the sticker is what you pay for. No negotiations or haggling. Which honestly I appreciate. Was nice to sit down and get the offer. No back and forth or anything. we sat down at the table which was one of like 40 or 50 in a small area. Felt like a food court seating. No real privacy. It's less intimidating but you are literally back to back with a stranger who can hear you give out your SSN. We waited while they appraised my trade in. I had a 2013 Honda Civic with bad paint fade & 110k+ miles. KKB suggested the trade in was 4K-5k... meaning I'd probably be lucky with 3k. The appraisal took about 15-20 minutes which isn't bad on a busy Saturday. Surprisingly it came back as $4500!! I was shocked and thrilled. Now when he ran my credit is what I'm upset about. CarMax runs them through about 6 different loan companies so you take 6 SEPARATE CREDIT HITS! I was not aware of this prior. My credit score dropped 67pts within a minute. One reason I knocked a star off. But I got a good offer with no down payment. And I was upside down almost 3k with my Honda. THE PAPERWORK: They were getting my paperwork together while I cleaned out my Honda. Once it was all ready Shelly & Frank helped us with all the paperwork. Which she explained every single line and what we were signing for. She also explained the price breakdown which never is done at a normal dealership. Once I was done I walked out to my new car and a huge yellow bow!!! So sweet of them to do that. Overall I was there from 2-6pm. But never once did I feel pressured, overwhelmed, or schemed. We plan on going back when my husband starts truck shopping. I only knocked off a star for not letting us know multiple banks were going to pull our credit at one time and because Tom didn't really explain anything on the car itself. This was my second CarMax purchase experience, the first at the Murrieta dealership. The overall experience was very good. There is no haggling which is great. No negotiation over vehicle price or finance options, either you qualify or not. The finance department was very easy to work with. The reason I gave three stars is because I was not at all impressed with the salesmen I worked with. I had a vehicle transferred in. The car arrived a day earlier than expected, this was very good. I made an appointment to visit the dealership the following day. I test drove and was quite pleased. This is where the pressure started. The salesman knew I was looking at the same model at two other CarMax locations. I was trying to compare trim packages. Now this where I became annoyed. I asked they hold the vehicle for 2 days. The Salesman said no we can't do that. I pushed back reminding him that I had a car on hold at San Diego for the same reason with no problem. The salesman was not able to fully articulate why they couldn't hold the vehicle. Ultimately, I agreed to return the following evening. So I received text messages from the first salesman the next morning asking What I planned to do. I told him I had an appointment that evening and be in then. I retuned that evening and purchased the vehicle. The price was very good. Here is the best advice I have for those considering purchasing from CarMax, do your research on your preferred vehicles. CarMax sales persons are not very knowledgeable about any one vehicle, which I understand given they are not Chevy dealer/salesmen. They deal with many makes and models. I am a very picky and hard to please person. This Carmax is exceptional they go above and beyond. I really liked the manager Marisol she went above an beyond for me she made sure I was 100% satisfied. She was phenomenal, and a perfect example of how a manager should be. I took the car I bought in on Friday in for some little things that bothered me cosmetic blemishes. Friday at about 4 PM. Also, it was a holiday weekend Monday was a holiday. By 3 PM Tuesday my service provider Candace already had a voicemail on my phone giving me update. I'm so impressed. My service provider was super friendly. She did everything she could, and reassured me that everything would be taken care of to meet my standards. It's so hard to get good customer service these days and I'm just extremely blown away. I bought a 2020 Ford Transit Connect cargo van today and was told the vehicle had only 4500 approx. miles. After looking at this 2020 cargo van I found lots of overspray on the vehicle and adhesive. This means the vehicle was used in a commercial setting since it had a wrap job on it that they could not get the adhesive off of. Funny, they told me they could not sell me a vehicle to be used as a commercial vehicle used for business (why I'll never know) but they bought a vehicle that had been used as a commercial vehicle and sold to have only 4500 approx. miles. After careful analysis and having bought several vehicles for commercial use I have deduced by the condition of the interior and the key fob that either the previous owner was a pig or the vehicle has more mileage than disclose by odometer rollback. I know this is a serious allegation that I may not be able to prove but I am sending the vehicle over to my go-to mechanic to check out because of the paint condition and the fact that they say the paint on the vehicle is a byproduct of overspray which iI believe is bullshit since I have read these reviews concerning vehicle paint overspray and have a boatload of questions. I may be totally wrong but think they are in the business of buying single owner vehicles that are damaged then the roll back the mileage and repair the damage so they can circumvent the carfax report and slide a lower mileage vehicle out the lot because there is no report to contest the carfax report. Call me a conspiracy theorist but something smells Fishy! The Customer Service Department is terrible. Service Advisors are rude and Stephanie at the front desk clearly hates her job. Also Ismael/Israel was incredibly rude and not very knowledgeable over the phone. Who is Managing this place and what kind of customer service training are they receiving? When purchasing your car please make sure they take care of your plates and not just your transfer fee. When they submitted my paper work to the DMV they didn't put my apartment number and refused to fix it for the first month and a half. They agreed to pay the late fees. When I went back after I paid for everything they refused to pay the late fees. Lauren was suppose to contact me 4 times and never did and when I spoke with Lisa Master she was very rude and told me I would be given $106 back well laurel only wanted to give me $50 at that point I asked for my paper work back. After Lauren called Lisa and confirm she told me $106 they finally after over a month decided to take care of it!!! All I wanted was for them to fix the issues but Lisa is one rude insensitive manager and Lauren needs to learn how to follow up with situations before they get to the point this did. Gabby was able to find the right vehicle I was looking for. She provided knowledge of the trucks I was interested in. Assisted in researching trucks in the area for the best deal! Gabby Graham is a true sales person that has the ability to keep customers coming back! After the sale, Gabby has continued to follow my truck in the service Dept to ensure I am being taken care of. I will try and keep this review short. So I traded in my vehicle in December of 2018. I test drove the vehicle and everything was great. I drove it home and the second I drove it off the lot it started having problems. It would not shift or go into reverse and the back end started squeaking. They had a tow truck come the following day to pick me and the vehicle up and put me in a rental. 1.5 weeks later they said it was fixed and went to pick it up. Surprise! It was not even close to fixed. So they put me in another rental (which died before I could even put it into drive) for 2 weeks. They did call everyday with an update, even though there wasn't one. I got it back a second time and again same problems. No one could give me a straight answer on what exactly they were doing to fix it. So now I have made a payment on a vehicle I have not even driven around and am now 9 months pregnant and tired of being jerked around. They took it back for a 3rd time and this time I said I would like another vehicle I am done. I told the service manager what vehicle i wanted and he said he would make it happen. I followed up with him the following day and he said it sold, I should have put a hold on it. Um I thought that is what you were doing. So I found another vehicle and was told by a sales representative that he would drive down to get me the vehicle and have it for the following day. I piled my toddler and newborn into the car the next day to get the truck and guess what the guy lied. No one could tell me why he didnt go get it like he said he would. So I waited for a couple of more days. The truck finally came in and they said sorry we have to rerun your credit to get this vehicle which is bull! I had 2 kids and was not going to argue I just wanted to be done with these people. As we got everything done and they were bringing the vehicle up the sales representative said sorry but there is something wrong with the tire pressure system and I need to bring it back a different day to get it fixed since they were busy. That pissed me off but what really got me is on my way home the damn thing died saying "engine oil pressure low". So again another rental for a second vehicle. It took them 2 weeks to get it fixed and the severice tech would not ever call me back, the service manager would tell me one thing, and then another service tech would tell me something different. It was an absolute joke. It took us 3 months to get a vehicle from them. I would never in a million years go back to them for a new vehicle. Also I forgot to add then when I finally got to pick it up they had plastic parts sitting on the passenger floor board theh needed to be put back. Yes I spoke to several managers and I do not feel I was taken care of in the appropriate way. You would think for how much they were messing up they would put a rush to fix everything and make me happy but they didn't. Stay away from here their service team does not know crap about vehicles and will just give you the run around. I do have to add that when doing the 2nd vehicle paperwork we worked with Heidi who is a sales member and she was super nice and trying to make everything go as fast as possible. She helped me with my kids and my things. She is the only person I do not have a bad thing to say about. read more
