I purchased a 2016 Mazda cx9 signature. About 1 year ago. Carfax clean everything checked out. I got the car oweing 29k. Keep in mind the car had 30,000 miles and seemed to be leased because it was only owned for a short amount of time. About 10 months in with the car. We started to realize the temp of the car started to move up when we were driving on a up hill or just on a really hot day and the AC would not be turned on. Than, it's official the car started to overheat just sitting at the park ! I rushed home and dident drive it until I was able to take it. 2 days later we took it to the the Mazda dealer in Temecula. The car had not power no nothing when driving it. Come to find out liquid of some sort was getting into the engine. And the engine was DONE. thank got I was at 56,000 miles and the car was covered under 60,000 miles so it got replaced for free everything. Once the engine was replaced the temp would still move. Weird? There is a new engine in there. I decided to sell the car. As I felt so uncomfortable and got lucky that my dad does business for the auto industry. I was able to pay off the car and have some equity on it. BUT!!!! once the Mazda dealer bought my car off of me. They asked if I got into a accident on the whole right side of the car. I said NO. the previous owner was involved in a car accident that totalled the entire right side of the vehicle. And this is why I think the engine went out and it's still giving me problems. Basically. I don't trust CarMax. They only run the carfax report but the owner must of fixed the vehicle under the table and Carfax was clean. FYI....acouple people who purchased vehicles from CarMax, the engines have went out not even acouple years after purchasing from CarMax. My experience buying with David and Angie was AMAZING!! Hands down worth my day to drive out here from San Diego. I was impressed on how large the dealership and the inventory they have on hand, probably one of the largest dealerships I've been to. Location was clean, lots of people on a weekend buying/selling cars but I was impressed they have more then enough space and employees to accommodate. I placed a car on hold with no intentions on purchasing today. In the ad, it didn't show a sunroof so I was going to check it out and go from there. When I seen the car the first thing I noticed was plastic was still on this car and it looked brand new!!! I was in shock!! The car had 4K miles but I didn't expect it to be in brand new condition. Little to my surprise the car had a sunroof! My time and travels didn't go wasted, I found my car! David was wonderful and is fairly new but when he teamed up with Angie, they were fire!!! And rear taillight is malfunctioning. Now before I left the stealership, they told me they had fixed the rear taillight. Obviously not the case. Took the car to a different CarMax for warranty work. And they had to replace spark plugs, ignition coils, and a leaking valve cover, which tells me they never performed an inspection on the vehicle. They would get us a loaner car, check the Ford and everytime they would came back and say they couldn't find the issue. In November i told them I want them to buy back the car. They did so and on Nov 27,2023 they sold us a Kia Optima 2016. Dec 14, 2023 three weeks having the car, the car caught fire while my son was driving it. We have the 30 day warranty and extended warranty mind you, so I had the car towed there. While on seen I called our sales persons number told him what happened (Ruban) sent him a photo and told him the car is on the way back. No one bothered to call me, so this morning I called and demanded to speak with the GM he called me back shortly. He had no empathy, and told me to contact my insurance so they can figure out if the fire was there fault at all. I was never informed that Kia had a recall for starting fires, and I deserved a safe car and this is my family's only car. He told me they don't don't guarantee safety of the vehicles they sell. He called me back to tell me I can get a rental car and pay for it myself and they will Reimburse me, cause their rental company they use isn't open, but Monday they could get something hopefully sent up. Don't think I should have to pay, car is only 8 years old, no way the transmission should fail this early, still has relatively low miles and I'm still new and on the upside of the contract. I'm writing this review to bring attention to my Ford Mustang 2016 I bought last august from this car max in murrieta. Yesterday I found something quite troubling with my front bumper. I have not removed or touched the bumper since purchase date however It appears someone was so lazy to remove the screw that holds the bumper to the fender that they cut off the clips on both sides of my bumper and bonded it with glue instead of properly securing the bumper to the car. Had I not purchased another aftermarket bumper and had the intention of putting the new one on I would have been Unable to put my OEM bumper back on. As a 19-year-old first-time car buyer, my initial interaction with the CarMax sales team was pleasant, but my decision to buy a car from CarMax Murrieta left me with regret. I've never felt the need to write a Yelp review until now. The exceptional customer service and kindness you experience before the purchase seem to diminish once you've bought your car. After applying for prequalification online, I was bombarded with calls and voicemails about purchasing a car. Even scheduling a test drive resulted in a flood of email and text reminders. Within 30 days, I noticed issues with my car's suspension, likely due to shock wear. Unfortunately, I had opted for CarMax's extended warranty, which they presented as a super-efficient program allowing you to bring your car in at any time and any CarMax location, alleviating my anxiety about buying a used car. However, the reality was different. I went to CarMax thinking I could have my car checked, but I was told that the service was closed on weekends. I attempted to call CarMax service, but they were unavailable to answer calls on weekends. I looked into their RepairPal option, which seemed like a great alternative. The shop was closer to my home, answered calls, and offered online scheduling - something CarMax's service shop should consider including on their website. However, I soon realized that the two-week minimum waiting period for an appointment was to allow CarMax to repair the numerous broken cars they sell. After leaving my car at the RepairPal shop over the weekend, I discovered that only CarMax Murrieta could approve the repair. After several frustrating calls with CarMax's service team, they eventually tried to make an exception to get my car fixed promptly. While they seemed to understand my frustration, they failed to return calls as promised. In the end, I decided to pick up my car and drive it to work after a three-day wait. I called a couple of weeks later to make an appointment, but the service representative I spoke with was unhelpful and refused to reimburse the $144 I had paid for the diagnosis. To add to the frustration, the appointment I thought I had made was never scheduled. I had to wait an additional 20 days to get my car fixed. Despite their excessive pre-purchase communication, I still had to wait for crucial information when it mattered most. In summary, I bought my car in early August, initiated the repair process at the end of August, and as of October 16th, I'm still waiting for the fix. If you choose to buy a car at CarMax with MaxCare or need to get your car repaired within their 30-day window, make sure to document everyone you speak with. CarMax's employees expect you to manage their communication, or you'll be left waiting for months for a crucial repair. My car, that has to wear carmax's lovely logo everyday, veers to the left on the freeway, and the employees I've interacted with seem indifferent to the safety concerns, and simply tell me that it is my responsibility to speak to MY insurance and ask for a rental car! am selling my car. went online and got a Carmax quote thru Edmunds. Edmunds quote was around $22,000. On their quote it showed a "range" of quotes which represented a range of car condition all the way from "Rough" to "Excellent" A "Rough" value would be $22,000 (which is the quote they gave me) An "Excellent" quote would be $25,000 The Carmax rep at the store told me they are locked in, by Edmunds, to honor the $22,000 quote. No one could explain how the variables "Rough and Excellent" are determined. I thought they would verify them by actually SEEING my car at CarMax. My car is in EXCELLENT condition. Yet they stuck to the "Rough" quote. No explanation. I need to post this on Yelp to make sure it doesnt happen to others. Oh, by the way, they agreed to quote it without regard looking at the Edmunds quote, as if I had just walked in without having ever gone to Edmunds. Look very closely at cars on their lot. Lots of paint repairs. Feel the paint for overspray and blemishes. We're talking worse than Maaco quality. As for selling them a car...here's my experience. Same car, three weeks apart. Only a few hundred additional miles between appraisals. Appraisal 1) they found a dent on the hood and bumper. Guy comes out and gives me the appraisal, then starts the scare tactics about how companies are making it harder to sell cars under lease. False. The price was lower than kelly blue book instant offer from two local dealers. $25k for a car that sells all day on their lot for $32k+. It's a beautiful car that is so clean it's ready to sell. Appraisal 2, three weeks later. No damage found this time. Dents are still there. They even had a longer list of options for the same car. Inspector even took more time. No issues reported. Same exact price. I only went back because I got an email saying to come back in case prices have gone up on trade ins. Wrong. Oh and Mike, wear a mask. Covid cases are bad around here. You didn't even have one around your chin. Don't waste your time here. But it is entertaining to browse the lot for all the repaints and curb rash repair that is done with rattle can. I received my confirmation email that the vehicle had been reserved FOR ME and that we were good to go for my appointment! We really liked what we saw via the website so the next morning we went to the bank to get our loan, we were confident that we'd be purchasing the vehicle. As we're getting our check, CarMax calls and tells me I didn't finish my pre-approval application..... I never started one. In fact, I specifically selected the outside financing option. Then the rep tells me some nonsense story about there being a glitch in the computer, that I never placed the car on hold, and that they sold it..... then tries to sell me something similar for $6,000 more than the vehicle I wanted. When I ask her if she can do better than that considering I just got screwed, she said no and that none of these issues were her responsibility because I didn't call her to place the car on hold. It's definitely someone's responsibility and I'm failing to see how it was mine. Called their service department and couldn't get help, person I bought the car from said the service manager would call me, never did. I finally got an appointment, 8 days out. Had concern over mileage before I could return the car if need be. They cant give loaners to certain insurance holders. Decided to just return the car and did without problem.
