I really wanted to like this place. The folks who run the place are great, and they sell 2 liters of A-Treat! I hadn't been back to PA in a few years, and frankly, I was disappointed in the pizza and the cheesesteaks. The cheesesteak wasn't very cheesy, and I didn't care for the texture. Yesterday I stopped because I really wanted a cheese steak for lunch. I originally had stopped at Arby's but only the drive thru was open, so I decided let's do Carl's Corner. Interesting enough, recently I just had cheese steaks at Richard's Drive In on Freemansburg Ave. and at Zandy's Steak Shop. Both cost almost $10 & really had too much meat in the roll so some falls out. Zandy's always provides a fork. Anyhow, I think Carl's comes out the best for size, amount of meat, and cost. All three took about the same time for prep. Zandy's only has 12 oz sodas in cans but has lots of seating. Richards is outside seating only, and Carl's has seating inside. No doubt in my mine Carl's was cranking it out, I don't know how they fit all the employees behind the counter. Pretty much the same for Richard's. But this is really about Carl's. Best price. Take credit cards. Zandy's & Richards are $ only. Also, Richards has a parking lot, but I can usually find a space on the street for Carl's & for take out grab one of the no parking spaces at the front door. Customer service is very friendly. Carl's is a very nondescript corner joint very near to Moravian College. The cheesesteaks come in two sizes here large and giant. My kinda place. We ordered a giant cheesesteak hoagie (ie lettuce tomato and mayo) to split. Everything about it was just awesome and yummy. Not super greasy, large amount of meat, awesome bread. Decent hoagies. Had cheesesteak but I do not have anything to compare this to as I am new to PA & haven't been to Philly to try the real thing! (That is on my to do list, though!) Wow! There are so few places that harken back to an authentic American restaurant where there's a sense of community and the food is simple, and simply good! Fresh, time-tested standards...hoagies, cheese steaks, burgers, fries. And SO FAMILY friendly! The staff had my 2 young kiddos mesmerized, entertained, and feeling loved. Haven't had a decent cheesesteaks in years; I have been dreaming of having one since I booked my trip back east. So needless to say my hopes were very high for Carl's corner and they sure did deliver. The service was freindly and fast and for less than 5 dollars I had the best cheesesteak I had in years. Piled high with meat and topped with savory marinara sauce. The roll was just great and did not fall apart mid mouthful. Had I been able to eat a second I would have, that's how good it was!!! Carl's is all you can ask for in a sandwich shop. Friendly, hometown atmosphere, has its regulars and repeat customers, and the food is tasty, cheap and the quantities are huge. Don't waste your time going to subway or potbelly's. Save your time, and get your moneys worth by going to Carl's. I'd recommend anything on their menu from the tuna, italian, american, cheeseburger sub (legit) etc. Haven't had anything from Carls that I didn't like and I eat here probably once a week if not more. read more

My family and I have been getting our cheesesteaks and steak sandwiches from Carl's for the better part of a decade. We've easily been there well over fifty times, and I can say with no exaggeration that we have never had a meal from Carl's that was anything but spectacular! I know that their sauce is a point of conjecture with many, but I absolutely love it and get mine with extra sauce, no cheese and pickles. My son gets American cheese only, and my wife gets American and the hot pepper works. All of us are always beyond satisfied. Not the first time we've ordered from Carl's and usually have great service and food! However, we ordered during COVID-19, and they managed to mess up our order completely. Instead of pierogis, which we specifically asked for, they gave us CURLY FRIES. I asked for a California sandwich witch NO cheese and NO sauce and got both. Ridiculous. Charly J's review of Carl's is pretty accurate except for one thing - the bread. It's not sturdy at all. It looked like it was when the counter girl showed me the size, but once the meat got inside, the filling practically slid right through the middle of the roll (not the bottom but the middle). Granted the filling was packed with meat and was very tasty, it was also a complete and utter mess to eat. I'm all for the overload of meat. But if you're going for that wow factor, you gotta make sure your buns can take all that meat! read more

Best place in the area to get a $5 lunch. I'm a bigger guy, but even the regular size cheese steaks are extremely filling. Great cheese steaks, and maybe my favorite chicken cheese steaks around. Fries, mozzarella sticks, and perogies are amazing. Their cheeseburgers are just OK, and although I don't like them in general, my step-dad thinks they have the best Italian subs around. That, and the fact that their chicken parm sub or wings "wing dings" they call them aren't very good is the only reason is got 4 stars instead of 5. Staff is so friendly, which is unusual for this type of business. It actually makes me enjoy going more, vs say Yocco's hot dogs where the employees seem miserable and the management is a jerk. For the value, the cheesesteaks are great. They pulverize/mince their meat; so if you are looking for a traditional philly type cheesesteak its not that kind. The meat is tender and moist, and not greasy. The bread is a softer, but chewy (in a good way) italian sub roll. It handled the meat/cheese well and was very easy to eat. I had hot peppers added to the cheesesteak. There were a good amount of hot peppers added. I wish someone would remove the stem pieces though. A minor issue, but when you eating something like a cheesesteak, you dont want to chew on something hard like a hot pepper stem while you are eating it. I also had a large "bucket" of curly fries (about 8" high/4" wide). I know everyone has said great comments about the fries, but I didnt think they tasted as fresh and hot as I would have liked them. They were good, but nothing special for $4.00. For the value and the cheesesteaks, I will return! read more

Been going to Carl's on and off for years. You would never hear the saying: "Where's the beef" at Carl's. EVERY steak sandwich is PACKED with tender juicy steak meat falling out of the bun. Fries are always hot and fresh and I have never eaten anything that I was dissatisfied with. The BLTs are simply the best! They don't do anything particularly flashy or use ultra high end ingredients (very fresh though), or have the most up to date decor but what ever they do, go have a seat at a small booth and get into the subs, cheesesteaks and fries.
