Originally went to the Dairy Queen next door and since I was really hungry decided to take a chance on this place to try and get some real food. This ended up being a really bad decision. The chicken was not cooked all the way through and the chicken also has bones in it. Ate only a few bites and ended up throwing it out. read more

Fantastic, authentic Caribbean food. I have to be honest- I was super surprised to find this place in Salisbury, I am really starting love Salisbury and the great food spots there. The food at Caribbean Island was great, hot, and delicious. The portions were large and perfectly seasoned. Some of the best Caribbean food that I have ever eaten. I will be stopping here every time I am in the area. read more

The food was wonderful! We had curried chicken (large) w/rice and peas and a side of plantains. Very authentic and better than our local Caribbean in Florida. So good, and my wife and I ate like kings! read more

The food was good. I got a large curry goat rice n peas cabbage and dumpling .. i couldn't complain. Thr portions were good and it was spicy like I like. They get a big up for the dumpling hard to find spots main em. They were good people, they try the cassava leaf. I didn't like those but my order was the bomb.. i could hv got a small, but I had enough left for dinner also! Ima go back. Oh, I even bought some habeno pepper sauce. But they make a hot sauce that will knock your socks off! No complaints!!! read more

We decided to give this local spot a try and were pleasantly surprised. We decided to order while at the restaurant once it was our first time and the reviews were mixed. I ordered the Oxtail and Jerk Chicken combo with Rice and Peas and Cabbage. I also ordered a side of Mac and Cheese and a piece of Coco Bread to share. We had a little wait since we didn't order ahead but it's homemade and worth it. The food was hot, flavorful and plentiful. I do wish all employees were wearing a mask and gloves but at least the person who was customer facing did. All the customers I saw were wearing masks. They also had the back door open so there was more ventilation I guess. We would definitely order here again. read more

I took my tropical tour to Salisbury today and the Caribbean Island Cafe. They allow mixed plates, which is nice, so I ordered curry chicken and jerk chicken along with rice and collards. Chicken: both the curry and the jerk were good, not great--just good. Neither was spicy enough. The chicken was chopped in the authentic Jamaican way and was moist. I really don't like the word moist, but there it is. As I said, it was good, but it didn't blow me away. Rice: I opted for yellow and, again, it was just okay--not seasoned enough. I'm going to throw out a comparison here: Colombian Cravings in Burlington blows this out of the water--they have some of the best yellow rice I've ever had. Collards: these were nicely seasoned and very good. So if you're in Salisbury craving some island food, CIC may satisfy it. But just barely. I would strongly suggest you head on up to Greensboro to Paradise West Indian American Restaurant where you can find truly outstanding Jamaican food, especially the jerk chicken. Check out my review of Paradise for more details. read more

I went last Saturday to get just some jerk chicken, beef patty & coco bread well first off they charge $15 for 5 pieces of cut up chicken which in essence makes maybe 2 whole pieces of chicken before being cut so I asked for oxtail combo plate which is $34. In total I spent $45 which was an absolute total waste of my time and money! The oxtails were sliced as thin as cold cuts, they were not tender at all and they had no flavor, the jerk chicken taste like regular grilled chicken absolutely zero jerk flavor, the coco bread was hard, the beef patty was hard. To top it off I originally called to see if they had roti she said no then after I received my order I asked when they will have roti again she said "oh that was you that called we have roti, the girl said we didn't but then came back and told me we did" I would have never wasted my money ordering all that food if they knew what they were talking about but the curry chicken roti I wanted probably would have tasted horrible as well. I most definitely would have gotten a better meal from a Chinese restaurant! read more

I must admit I was hesitant after reading the reviews... but I am so glad we decided to try! Those that have good experiences more than likely rarely leave a review! I hope that changes. This food was great! I had the small oxtail meal with rice, peas, and cabbage! Flavor was good! I really enjoyed my food! The oxtails were meaty.. well seasoned and tender.. the rice, peas and cabbage... same... very well seasoned and flavorful! Everyone was pleasant! I loved the fact that everyone seemed.. 'happy'... singing... enjoying life...! The only reason I didn't give all 5 stars is because they allowed people to come in without a mask on and a few in the kitchen didn't have a mask on! That's a big deal to me these days. But as far as the food... I have eaten a decent number of Jamaican restaurants... this one is worth it! read more

Caribbean Island Cafe - Small Oxtail Meal with cabbage, rice and peas - Caribbean Near Me - Salisbury, North Carolina

The food was TERRIBLE. The oxtail was tough and had little to no flavor. They barely gave any rice and peas but gave a boatload of unwanted mashed potatoes. This is not Caribbean! Anybody looking to come into this establishment, please do yourself a favor and Run. I will not be returning and I will not recommend this to my worst enemy. read more

Ricardo came into my job (which sells restaurant equipment). He was extremely rude and dismissive. I have been wanting Caribbean food since relocating to NC. I will make my own and save my money. People in the South are supposed to be nicer. If his treatment of me is any indication of how he does business, I rather spend my money elsewhere - as well as recommend another business. read more

I been craving Caribbean/West Indian food since I moved down here from up North. I had high expectations and was let down.

Food was amazing! Chef did his thing! Atmosphere felt like home with music and cheerfully pleasant.

love the food , great, clean fresh oxtail red snapper

Will not be back!!! Was told $13.00 on the phone for 1 plate of food and was charged $29! Who has ever paid $30 for 1 plate of food!? Then when I asked why my total was different than what I was told he asked the guy I talked to and he told him that's what he told me then he said he couldn't give me anything back but I could have a drink. What's a $1 can drink going to do? read more

Excellent food and service! Jerk Chicken was delicious and Curry Goat, as well. Love the tasty rice and plantains. Ate all my cabbage, because I know it's good for me. I definitely come back each time that I'm in Salisbury. read more

I was very excited when I heard that there was a Caribbean place around here. So I went to give them a try. As previously stated in one of my other reviews on a different establishment, my husband is Haitian. I know what the food is supposed to taste like. The food here doesn't have the flavors that they should. I found them rather bland actually. The beef patties one can buy at Sam's club 10 for $9.99. They are frozen and microwavable. The food isn't bad in a pinch, but if I want authentic Caribbean food, I'll either have my husband make it, our Jamaican friend to make it, or head to Caribbean Hut in Charlotte. read more

The food is usually good but today the goat was dry and tasteless and the rice was over cooked and the Jamaican patty had little to no beef just patty y'all gotta do better read more

The flow of this place is TERRIBLE. If you wanna have an anxiety attack after ordering your food, come to this place. They put the least experienced person on register during lunch, novice mistake. I asked for a receipt for my food, and they replied "we're saving trees". I know text receipts should be an option at this point in time. The food was ok though. This place has a long way to go for efficiency. read more

Finally a place in Salisbury that serves Jamaican food. I hope this place sticks around. The beef patty was very tasty. I really enjoyed both the macaroni and cheese and greens. The jerk chicken was ok...It may not have been the very best that I have had, but it is certainly good enough for me to return every time I crave jamaican food without having to venture to another city. The prices are a little high, but honestly they can afford to be...supply and demand. You can't go anywhere else in Salisbury and get Jamaican food and that works to the restaurant's advantage. The oxtails looked really good, so that is up next on my return visit. The total for the food in my picture was a little over $18. read more

Absolutely delicious food and friendly people! So glad to have you a place like this is Salisbury.

Saw all the great reviews but no...I had the curry chicken with white rice and cabbage and it was the most bland thing ever. Waste of $14 because I threw it out and I don't normally waste food. That food was not seasoned properly at all. Beyond disappointed but I guess I shouldn't expect much from Salisbury. read more

Owner's girlfriend literally dropped a peice of my chicken on the floor, used the tongs to pick it up, then proceeded to place the chicken back on the grill! All while we stood there watching. I was mortified. They also don't wear a mask EVER. read more

Everytime we have ordered it's gotten worse started out great I got the curry chicken it was all bones and no meat chopped up and covered in sauce the rice and beans was old and all the beef patty's seemed like they was in the warmer all day for two large plates and 6 beef patty's it was $55 and absolutely the worse thing I ever had so many bones I can't even eat it will not order again read more

This place is not good. I would rather drive 30 minutes up the highway to charlotte to go to Anthony's. The older lady that always answer the phone is very rude to her staff. I am really surprised they still work there, i feel bad for them. The portion sizes are not what i'm use to especially considering the price. The establish is not worth the headache. read more

Saw there van a was so excited to see Caribbean food come to Salisbury. Went right over. I'm from D.C. area and there are lots of great Caribbean Jamaican food places to eat everywhere. I've been missing it for almost 5 years since I moved out here. To get that excited and be disappointed was heartfelt. I got jerk chicken with cabbage, beans and rice and plantains. Chicken was horribly dry like it was cooked yesterday or longer or under heat lamps for more than a day. there was maybe a spoon of gravy splashed across the chicken usually it's covered at most places. Cabbage was okay , rice and beans okay. I even asked for extra plantains and was so disappointed when I got home and there was none in the bag. I paid like $3 more for a large order and it looks like the same amount in the regular order to Guy in front of me got. Believe me I know everybody Cooks different in Caribbean food. But never have I had chicken so dry and and not even getting the plantains that come with the order. read more
