The food was good. I got a large curry goat rice n peas cabbage and dumpling .. i couldn't complain. Thr portions were good and it was spicy like I like. They get a big up for the dumpling hard to find spots main em. They were good people, they try the cassava leaf. I didn't like those but my order was the bomb.. i could hv got a small, but I had enough left for dinner also! Ima go back. Oh, I even bought some habeno pepper sauce. We decided to give this local spot a try and were pleasantly surprised. We decided to order while at the restaurant once it was our first time and the reviews were mixed. I ordered the Oxtail and Jerk Chicken combo with Rice and Peas and Cabbage. I also ordered a side of Mac and Cheese and a piece of Coco Bread to share. We had a little wait since we didn't order ahead but it's homemade and worth it. The food was hot, flavorful and plentiful. I do wish all employees were wearing a mask and gloves but at least the person who was customer facing did. All the customers I saw were wearing masks. They also had the back door open so there was more ventilation I guess. We would definitely order here again. read more

I went last Saturday to get just some jerk chicken, beef patty & coco bread well first off they charge $15 for 5 pieces of cut up chicken which in essence makes maybe 2 whole pieces of chicken before being cut so I asked for oxtail combo plate which is $34. In total I spent $45 which was an absolute total waste of my time and money! The oxtails were sliced as thin as cold cuts, they were not tender at all and they had no flavor, the jerk chicken taste like regular grilled chicken absolutely zero jerk flavor, the coco bread was hard, the beef patty was hard. To top it off I originally called to see if they had roti she said no then after I received my order I asked when they will have roti again she said "oh that was you that called we have roti, the girl said we didn't but then came back and told me we did" I would have never wasted my money ordering all that food if they knew what they were talking about but the curry chicken roti I wanted probably would have tasted horrible as well. I most definitely would have gotten a better meal from a Chinese restaurant! read more

I took my tropical tour to Salisbury today and the Caribbean Island Cafe. They allow mixed plates, which is nice, so I ordered curry chicken and jerk chicken along with rice and collards. Chicken: both the curry and the jerk were good, not great--just good. Neither was spicy enough. The chicken was chopped in the authentic Jamaican way and was moist. I really don't like the word moist, but there it is. As I said, it was good, but it didn't blow me away. Rice: I opted for yellow and, again, it was just okay--not seasoned enough. I'm going to throw out a comparison here: Colombian Cravings in Burlington blows this out of the water--they have some of the best yellow rice I've ever had. Collards: these were nicely seasoned and very good. So if you're in Salisbury craving some island food, CIC may satisfy it. But just barely. I would strongly suggest you head on up to Greensboro to Paradise West Indian American Restaurant where you can find truly outstanding Jamaican food, especially the jerk chicken. I must admit I was hesitant after reading the reviews... but I am so glad we decided to try! Those that have good experiences more than likely rarely leave a review! I hope that changes. This food was great! I had the small oxtail meal with rice, peas, and cabbage! Flavor was good! I really enjoyed my food! The oxtails were meaty.. well seasoned and tender.. the rice, peas and cabbage... same... very well seasoned and flavorful! Everyone was pleasant! I loved the fact that everyone seemed.. 'happy'... singing... enjoying life...! The only reason I didn't give all 5 stars is because they allowed people to come in without a mask on and a few in the kitchen didn't have a mask on! That's a big deal to me these days. But as far as the food... I have eaten a decent number of Jamaican restaurants... this one is worth it! read more

I was very excited when I heard that there was a Caribbean place around here. So I went to give them a try. As previously stated in one of my other reviews on a different establishment, my husband is Haitian. I know what the food is supposed to taste like. The food here doesn't have the flavors that they should. I found them rather bland actually. The beef patties one can buy at Sam's club 10 for $9.99. They are frozen and microwavable. The food isn't bad in a pinch, but if I want authentic Caribbean food, I'll either have my husband make it, our Jamaican friend to make it, or head to Caribbean Hut in Charlotte. read more

The flow of this place is TERRIBLE. If you wanna have an anxiety attack after ordering your food, come to this place. They put the least experienced person on register during lunch, novice mistake. I asked for a receipt for my food, and they replied "we're saving trees". I know text receipts should be an option at this point in time. The food was ok though. Finally a place in Salisbury that serves Jamaican food. I hope this place sticks around. The beef patty was very tasty. I really enjoyed both the macaroni and cheese and greens. The jerk chicken was ok...It may not have been the very best that I have had, but it is certainly good enough for me to return every time I crave jamaican food without having to venture to another city. The prices are a little high, but honestly they can afford to be...supply and demand. You can't go anywhere else in Salisbury and get Jamaican food and that works to the restaurant's advantage. Saw all the great reviews but no...I had the curry chicken with white rice and cabbage and it was the most bland thing ever. Waste of $14 because I threw it out and I don't normally waste food. This place is not good. I would rather drive 30 minutes up the highway to charlotte to go to Anthony's. The older lady that always answer the phone is very rude to her staff. Saw there van a was so excited to see Caribbean food come to Salisbury. Went right over. I'm from D.C. area and there are lots of great Caribbean Jamaican food places to eat everywhere. I've been missing it for almost 5 years since I moved out here. To get that excited and be disappointed was heartfelt. I got jerk chicken with cabbage, beans and rice and plantains. Chicken was horribly dry like it was cooked yesterday or longer or under heat lamps for more than a day. there was maybe a spoon of gravy splashed across the chicken usually it's covered at most places. Cabbage was okay , rice and beans okay. I even asked for extra plantains and was so disappointed when I got home and there was none in the bag. I paid like $3 more for a large order and it looks like the same amount in the regular order to Guy in front of me got. Believe me I know everybody Cooks different in Caribbean food. But never have I had chicken so dry and and not even getting the plantains that come with the order. read more
