I had a pretty good experience. A friend and I stopped by on a Saturday afternoon. When ordering from the kiosk we noticed several items were unavailable which was saddening. We ended up ordering 3 patties. They came out piping hot and were served with a smile. This place could really be a gem. Loved the private feel of the seating, and the covered outdoor patio. Before I even walked into this place I smelled what seemed like jerk chicken. When opening the door to this place I smelled the essence of Jamaican oxtails. A negative reviewer said something different. So that was a lie. This restaurant is putting beautiful aroma in the air. As a proud Puerto Rican. In town for a college tour with my wife and daughter and did a quick yelp search and stumbled across this place. Thank God for yelp reviews because this place is fantastic. If you're anywhere near this place and don't stop in you're missing some of the best food you'll ever eat, served and prepared by some of the greatest people you'll ever meet. Just a heads up: oxtail with cabbage - get it. They also have an excellent selection of fresh juices. I had the pineapple and ginger which was refreshing and a nice healthy alternative. My wife and daughter both had one of the chicken platters and gave them high praise. My wife had the blue butterfly pea juice which was light and refreshing. You order at a kiosk and seat yourself. While the Khrissy's Kitchen truck makes its rounds at Brown Truck fairly regularly, High Point was without a Jamaican restaurant until Island Fest recently opened its doors. It's a welcome addition, and while it has room to grow and improve, there's reason enough to be hopeful. Housed in the former Lone Star Burger (they kept the cow out front and adorned it with a Jamaican flag), Island Fest is geared toward takeout and quick service. Dining in is an option, and the folks here seem friendly, but you're coming for the food, not the ambiance. Speaking of the food, the offerings here aren't as extensive as they are at Da Reggae Café, but if you have a Jamaican craving, you'll likely find something that can satisfy it. Entrees range from jerks and curries to fried fish to brown stew beef, quick bites include various patties and coco bread, and sides cover the requisite rice and peas, cabbage, and plantains as well as mac and cheese. They were out of curry shrimp when I placed my order, so I went with fried red snapper in its stead along with jerk chicken, a beef patty, and coco bread. The entrees are available in smaller and larger sizes and include rice and plantains. My wife and I were hoping to get several meals out of our order and did so for under $50. While Island Fest's early reviews complained about portion sizes, the larger-sized entrees left no room for complaint on that end. The food was a bit uneven, but there were more bright spots than disappointments. Thankfully, Island Fest does not tone itself down for mass appeal: the beef patty and jerk chicken brought a welcome bit of heat. The snapper was nicely breaded and paired well with a peppery barbecue sauce. Speaking of sauces, Island Fest lets you pick a gravy for your rice. We got to try both the curry and the oxtail gravies, and both were delicious. While the rice was a top-tier side, the cabbage and coco bread were forgettable, and the sweet plantains weren't particularly sweet. Island Fest's early offerings are promising, and more may be on the horizon. As-is, this probably isn't the best Jamaican food you've had, but the entrees and sauces can hold their own. read more

I stumbled upon this restaurant after visiting my parents over the weekend. I was pleasantly surprised by the flavorful jerk chicken, yellow rice, and plantains. In addition to the delicious food, I had the ginger and pineapple drink (made in house!) that did not disappoint. On top of it all, the customer service was excellent. I've had Jamaican shrimp curry before and it had a sauce. This did not. I ordered a side of curry gravy and it was not really gravy -- more like a thin curry broth. The plantains were sweet and delicious - my favorite part of the meal. My husband's jerk chicken tasted more like a tangy bbq chicken rather than the jerk chicken I've had in the past. Let me start by saying when I walked in the place was very clean, super nice atmosphere. I like that they have a computer screen that shows the menu and what is available and not available. The people were really nice and accommodating when I told them about my mac and cheese missing. The pineapple ginger juice was so good. The food was really good. When paying nearly $20 for one jerk chicken lunch meal, you would expect the chicken to at least be tender. Our chicken was extremely hard, the plastic fork/knife couldn't even cut through it. I just moved here from Miami Florida and I've been missing that authentic Island food. I've tried three places here in NC and nothing hit home. I had the med oxtails ,peas n rice, cabbage and plantain. Omg is was amazing ... it was hot and fresh. The biggest issue I've had here is that the previous places weren't seasoned at all. The only difference here is the portion size was smaller. The spots at home give so much food your plate is caving in the middle. All in all best food I've had here! read more

The staff was thin so the service did take a bit but the food is worth the wait. Also, the staff is VERY helpful and friendly too. Located in what was once the old Emerywood Fine Food/Lonestar Burger location, the ambiance is laid back and enjoyable. Open every day until 7pm, expect being closed on Sunday. The owner, who took our order, when she heard it was our first visit, she suggested we have a chicken patty as well as a beef patty. We weren't sure what to expect. When they arrived looking like a hand pie, we were ready to dig in. Spiced wonderfully, flaky crust and cooked to perfection, walk don't run and order your own patties! When our meals arrived, we were ready to dig in. Everything was spiced well for our entrees too. The dishes were plastic to go containers so don't expect something beyond that.
