I was given a recommendation to try the empanadas from here and I wasted no time after the very high recognition it was given. You guys.. the empanada was so good that I didn't even get a picture. I'm a sucker for a delicious empanada. It comes with a really good sauce so don't forget to try that as well. I washed it down with their pineapple juice which was homemade and refreshing. We have been looking for some good Mofongo and we have found it. Combo has very good mofongo, chunks pork with a side salad. Many Spanish dishes to choose from as well as drinks. Absolute favorite place to eat! The staff is so kind and friendly they feel like family at this point. There's literally nothing I've tasted from here that is bad-nothing. My favorite item is the roasted pernil platter. It comes with rice and beans. My favorite is the rice and pigeon peas but it's not always available. Anytime you can get the yellow rice, definitely do. If I don't get those I get the white rice and pintos which are equally good. It comes with a side salad but I normally swap it out for another. Like I said everything is good-my favorite is the tostones but the plantains, mac and cheese, and roasted yucca. I'm getting hungry all over again thinking about it. You seriously can't go wrong with anything on the menu. It's also one of the few restaurants in Greensboro that still had the option to dine in. There is not much to the ambiance, in a dying shopping center, it looks like an old sub shop with dirty vents. I say that not to scare you, but to understand this is not anything more than a casual dine/take out Dominican place with exquisite food, made with love. Service is great and folks are kind and helpful. The pork is fantastic, the beef lasagna is great. I can eat the sweet plantains all day. Go there, it's great. My biggest complaint is that they give you so much that they need a bigger Styrofoam container. Also, cardboard is more environmentally friendly. read more

The ambience is pure Dominican culture from the moment you enter the restaurant. The employees are bilingual and extremely friendly! They have delicious daily specials and a large menu. I have eaten here several times and am never let down. My last visit there, I ordered the Mofongo con Chicharron de Cerdo (fried pork belly). The mofongo is garlicky, buttery, goodness. This is more authentic than authentic. Dominican style mufungo, crispy pork belly, bollito de papa are like relleno de papa's and are just so good. I've been twice and both times they are busy. In from out of town, I always check out local restaurants . I picked this one because my travel companions like Caribbean foods , I think it was mostly Dominican food but similar to Puerto Rican and Cuban foods . We loved it , food was delicious, I ordered two meat empanadas and two bolitas de papa ( mashed potatoes rolled in a ball and filled with cheese or hamburger meat . Came for a light snack and I'll certainly be back. Today I tried the Bollitos de Papa (cheese) and the Empanada (chicken). The potato ball was delicious... mashed potatoes formed around cheese then deep fried... it doesn't get much better than that. We haven't eaten "in" at La Palma since the start of interesting times, and I am delighted that even doing takeaway, their food holds up with a 20min drive to our place and is worth the round trip drive to get and eat at home. My defaults for takeaway are chicharron de cerdo platter (fried pork belly) for me & longaniza platter (Dominican pork sausage) for hubs, and la palma sandwich, which is sandwiched between tostones instead of served on bread for a next day lunch reheat in the air fryer. We have had to give up the fresh homemade donuts, as they really don't travel well, unless we messily eat them in the as an appetizer before we go. They have returned to eat in at the dining room, but on the whole I still lean towards takeaway but try to remember to tell them I don't need the plasticware and napkins. read more

A friend introduced me to La Palma today for lunch. It's a Dominican place in Greensboro on Gate City Blvd. Absolutely incredible food. Wow! The favors are incredible, the staff are awesome explaining the dishes and the prices are good. I had the pork with yuka and onions. The side was a potato beef ball with this delicious sauce. We are Dominican-Americans and are here on vacation from California. We used to have one Dominican restaurant but sadly it closed up. My daughter goes to college here and she highly recommended this restaurant. So here we are and ready to dine and eat Dominican food which we love. There is also a Dominican beauty salon next door which is very cool because everyone knows especially on the East Coast the Dominicans know everything about hair. Sorry, I digressed but back to the restaurant it wasn't crowded and you are free to sit yourself. You step up to the counter and you order your food and they give you a pager/beeper with a tray and your drinks. We enjoyed our drinks and then the beeper rang again to let us know that our meal was done. Everything was prepared in to-go containers which was perfect for us. The price was excellent especially compared to California where everything is astronomical. There was plenty of food to take back to my daughter's apartment. First time visiting La Palma and I will 100% be coming back. The restaurant is nicely set up and very clean. You order at the register and seat yourself. A friend of mine that recently moved here told me to try La Palma. He said they prepared their food the as close to home as he's found so far so we gave it a try. The Empanadas were good. Not overly seasoned, the crust held together well. The only real issue with them was I ordered one of each and received 2 beef instead. The sauce that accompanied them and came with many more dishes was flavorful but not overpowering. The La Palma sandwich was basically a roasted pork sandwich that used fried plantains as a bread replacement. The pork was great. Little pieces of roasted, crispy skin were a definite highlight. The overly salted plantain "bread" made this almost uneatable. Removing this and eating the meat and toppings like a salad was the way to go. The Mofongo with Shrimp was probably seasoned the best. The gravy poured over dish was a little thinner than I expected and complimented the dish well. Fried Steak Strips...good. The Mac & Cheese on the side....Bangin! The star of the plate for sure. Masa De Cerdo Frita- a little dry as expected with lean pork. The saltiness strikes again. Edible but too much salt! The Yucca & Onions were great. I'm not sure that any seasoning was added, just the flavor of the 2 ingredients working together made this a great side. The rice and beans I ordered were just rice and pintos. Good but not a standout item. If La Palma can get the saltiness under control I'd try them again. read more

This Dominican restaurant is a hidden gem! I was hungry and hadn't had Dominican food in over a year so I goggled locations and chose this one. What a good surprise!! I had the chicken empanada (I LOVE an authentic Empanada) and then I also tried the Roasted Pork Shoulder but I'm not a huge pork fan so the taste wasn't really for my taste buds but my husband smashed it so I think it's safe to say it was good, lol. read more
