Cuban sandwich, yuca fries (with a yummy garlic oil) and fried plantains

Been wanting to check out this place for a while and so glad we did! Went with the Cuban, yuca fries, and plantains and they were all amazing. Will definitely be going back!

The ham croquettes (croquetas) were crisp, light, tender and flavorful. To me, they were the star of the show, and that's saying something considering how good the Cubano sandwich and pork sandwich were. I was with a group, and everyone loved their meal. Service was friendly and quick. We'll be back!

I had never had Cuban food before yesterday. This food truck was at a Cars and Coffee event yesterday. I ordered their JJs famous Cuban sandwich and it was amazing. I was thinking it was a little pricey when I ordered it but when I got it I saw why it was 13$ it was a huge well made sandwich and it was very tasty. I could only eat half of it but ate the other half later that day. Great friendly service and quick delivery on the order. Highly recommend this place if you see them set up somewhere...

My husband's favorite food truck made its way to King this evening, so we couldn't pass up the chance to eat some delicious, authentic Cuban food. We've been following JJ's Cuban Kitchen for a few years now and it's constantly good and consistently a grade 100!! My husband had the Cuban sandwich; pulled pork, ham, Swiss cheese, mayo, mustard and pickles on Cuban bread. My husband says, "I don't know what he puts on that pork, but it's bussin'!" The kids enjoyed Cuban sliders and they shared an order of Croquettes. I had them make me a wannabe Cuban with the shredded chicken, minus the pork (I just don't do pork). It was really tasty. Go follow their FB and IG pages so you don't miss some of the best Cuban goodness on wheels! Always served with a smile.

(3.5 stars) A Kernersville-based truck, JJ's Cuban Kitchen runs a small menu of Cuban favorites. Cubanos, plantains, yuca fries, croquetas (ham croquettes), and fritas (Cuban burgers) are among the offerings. The food is solid, but it is neither the best nor the cheapest ($10 Cubanos/$4 sides) of its kind in the area. The Cubanos use the right kind of bread, are assembled and pressed well, and are plenty filling, but they are also a bit dry. Among the sides, the tostones (fried plantains) are bigger and the maduros (sweet plantains) are less sweet than what you might find elsewhere. The owner, Jerome, runs the truck with his family, and all have been pleasant to deal with. JJ's Cuban Kitchen wouldn't be my first choice for a Cubano (maybe the lechon or frita burger knocks it out of the park), but it's still worth a look if it lands at a brewery nearby.

Tried them again tonight at Gypsy Road Brewery. Went for the El Jefe Cubano this time. It has more of each meat on it. The roasted pork was delicious. It awesome. Yep, I ate the whole thing.

Service was great and the mojitos were on point. Not being able to decide on two things to share we needed up ordering 3! The classic Cuban with fries, the grilled fish tacos with yellow rice and veggies and the shredded chicken mojito bowl, which has been my Goto ever since they opened. All of these were so tasty, fresh, and plentiful. Just plain good food. I have to say the classic Cuban was really delicious, the mustard and pickles brings out the meat and the I like the flattened Cuban bread. I have always loved their fries. The chipotle ketchup is so unique too. The tacos also packed a punch, lots of filling into the little street taco shell! Loved this. The mojito bowl was just as always fabulous. I love all their sauces too. I will truly miss this place for having different food and offering us a taste of something different. I was especially interested in the Toasted Cuban Bread, the Authentic Cuban Sandwich, and the Pan Con Bistec, and tried them all over several visits, along with Chicharrones, Ceviche, plantains, Fried Chicken Sandwich, Ropa Vieja, Street Corn, and more. My experiences here were definitely a mixed bag with both the food and the service. On one visit the service would be fine, and on the next it would be awful. Time for food to arrive on the table varied greatly, even when the restaurant was not especially busy. The Cuban Sandwich is decent but it doesn't scream "South Florida". I was more impressed with the Pan Con Bistec, a better choice in my opinion, as is the Fried Chicken Sandwich especially with a side of sweet plantains or yucca fries. The Toasted Cuban Bread, the Street Corn, and the Ceviche were also pretty good choices, as are the Chicharroes. I did not care for the Ropa Vieja at all, nor the Cuban Deluxe Sandwich, too much going on, croquettes adversely effected both the taste and the texture if the Cuban! I was sorry to hear that the restaurant will close permanently on Aug 24th. The owners site a drop in business due to the downtown parking situation (which likely will only get worse with the coming changes), safety concerns by potential customers, as well as rising costs in almost all areas of operation. Winston will lose yet another solid, sit down restaurant, most likely to be replaced by another fast, casual spot with a trendy, funky menu.

I will say pricing wise, I was given a much bigger portion that matched a bit more the price point compared to my husband. On the edge of the Greensboro and Summerfield border, near the PTI airport, lies a small restaurant with big flavor and big heart. This location has been many things in the past, but I am hopeful that Empanada Grill will last forever. The menu is very simple , but nobody needs to make complicated empanadas. I would rather a place do a few things well than have a wide variety of things and be mediocre. Empanada Grill is as far from mediocre as you can get. I opted for their empanadas undressed in the traditional chicken style. It came with a side of rice and beans. You got to choose between red or black beans, and white, yellow, or traditional rice. I went with the black beans and traditional rice. This was enough food for two meals. I received my food to go, as I had a practice to get to, but there is a variety of seating areas within to accommodate groups of all sizes. The black beans deserve a picture of their own because they are basically a full meal themselves. I ate half before I remembered to take a picture because they were so good. I would definitely bring the family back to this restaurant, as we all love empanadas. I would love to try the traditional beef next time. The worst part about this trip? My car smelled like empanada the next day and I had no more empanada to eat. But that's a problem that can easily be solved with a trip back to my new favorite empanada place.
