Despite the "Taco" designation right there in the name, you'd be foolish to think this place is just another Mexican restaurant. In reality, there is a full complement of several Latin American cuisines on offer here, along with some dishes that you would find on a typical Tex-Mex menu. Most of the menu is in English, or has an English explanation, but there were a few items that were only in Spanish that I had to look up quickly on my phone. That was okay by me, as most of it is easy to understand if you've been to several hispanic restaurants in your life. But what is important here is the food, and the food is absolutely delicious, as well as unique enough to make me drive out to Thomasville again sometime so I can try more things! I went with a seafood dish "Camarones al Mojo de Ajo" (Shrimp in a buttered garlic sauce) and let me tell you... I usually avoid shrimp when I am inland because you can get quality and/or quantity issues, but NONE of that was present here. I was presented with a very nice compliment of plump and fresh tasting shrimp in a truly delightful flavorful sauce. I gobbled down every morsel and then proceeded to mop up the sauce with some of their very fresh corn tortillas. My wife had some of their papusas on recommendation of some of the other Yelp reviews, something neither of us have had before. Another big hit. Varieties of different flavors inside a beautiful and pillowy shell. We enjoyed all of this with some of their fresh guacamole, not a mistake at all! Thomasville is a twenty minute drive for us, and there are many many restaurants with one form of southwestern cuisine or another much closer to us... but this place stands out. So, the person who thinks that this is a Mexican restaurant would be incorrect. Although they do serve tacos, the star here is the Salvadoran food. We went on the recommendation of the owners of the Copper Still Taproom right around the corner and we were not disappointed. It is a little place that could easily be called a "dive" or "hole in the wall" but don't let that deter you. We tried the pupusas and they were wonderful! They have the normal cheese, bean and cheese, chicharron and cheese, etc. but they also had one called the Floroco. It was kind of a squash blossom and cheese pupusa. It was great as was the one with jalapeño and cheese. There is no alcohol served there, but you can get a horchata or tamarindo so it will be ok. Spoke with the owner over the phone to make him aware, since this was the second time our family had went through this situation at his restaurant. I came after Chartreuse barn sale to use certificate from restaurant.com. It's a small casual carry out with booths. I was craving Mexican but not a lot of veg options so I went with fried plantains and cheese papusas with horchata. The horchata was a little sweet for me but the rest of the food was great. Very authentic from my travels through El Salvador & Mexico. Chips and salsa come is you are dining in and service is very attentive. Chips are the thick type like I've had in Mexico. A hidden little gem on Main St. Very clean restaurant and service was very good. A very welcoming atmosphere. Coming from California We are used to true ethnic cooking at its best and this place is that. I had the pupusas and they were incredible. Soft grilled corn masa with a flavorful pork and cheese stuffing. The bean and cheese pupusa was very tasty. The cheese is not your processed cheese, it was authentic casero cheese. Taco Lopez. A friend of mine talked me into coming here. Located on an obscure side street in Thomasville with street parking only, or park elsewhere in one of the abandoned businesses and walk up. From the outside this place sure dont look like much. And as a matter of fact I doubt the interior will win any awards either. It was reasonably clean, but definitely well worn. We got here at high noon and there was a good crowd. The menu is large and none of it is in english. There is definitely a bit of a language barrier. Some classic Mexican dishes and Salvadorian food also. I went with the Carne Asada plate. Thin sliced fried steak, charro beans, an interesting pickled relish, and salad. The taste of everything seemed fine. Nothing unusual. The beans were a little watery. If you're tired of the usual sandwiches and BBQ and want something different then this might be an ok place to try. I definitely wouldn't go out of my way to come here. read more

This place is the definition of "don't judge a book by its cover"! We've eaten here many times and every time is better than the last. They have the best tacos with the freshest ingredients. I speak fluent Spanish and still had trouble ordering my food over the phone. The person apparently didn't know the menu or prices because she kept asking someone the questions I was asking her. You can easily drive right past their location. When I got inside I noticed their $1 taco and "paposa" sign which had pupusas spelled incorrectly. The inside has a few oversized booths and a long counter but no tables with chairs. I ordered an order of pupusas which brings 3 for $6.50, an order of yuca with chicharrón and an order of fried plantains. The pupusas were pretty good. I had the revueltas which are pork and cheese. Not too greasy and a great amount of filling. The curtido (slaw) was extremely under seasoned and dry. The most disappointing thing was the yuca and chicharrón. They put about 5 pieces of burnt, nasty chicharrón and called it a meal. It was despicable. The fried plantains were barely cooked through and the watery beans were underwhelming. The crema was extremely bitter and tasted rancid. I've had traditional crema from El Salvador and I know it can a little tangy but not bitter. The "owner" would not honor a restaurant.com certificate because "I did not print it out and he can't use it any other way". He also made it a point to tell me that I've been the only one to come in without it printed out. It doesn't say that anywhere on the voucher but OK. I tried this place because I love pupusas but I wouldn't go back. You can find better food and service else where. read more

What a great place! This is not your run-of-the-mill Tex-Mex place like those that dot every small town across the southeastern US. This is real Salvadoran and Mexican food with a few traditional USAmerican offerings. The prices are great and the portions are generous. I went there for lunch on a weekday. My meal came with a starter of thick, crunchy chips and salsa. The salsa was fairly unremarkable, so I also ordered guacamole, which was chunky and appeared to have been made that day if not specifically for my order. I had an order of pupusas, which includes three. They let me mix and match, so I didn't have to get three of the same kind. I had cheese and beans, cheese and jalapeños, and loroco, which I learned is an edible vine native to Central America. They were delicious -- fluffy corn meal breading with tasty stuffings. The cabbage slaw/salad was something I've never had -- just shredded cabbage in a light vinegar or pickled dressing. The sauce that comes with the pupusas is very good -- spicy but not too hot. There were also bottles of red and green Picamás brand hot sauce, which is made in Guatemala, on the table. The service was very attentive. There was a good mix of customers with lots of Latino folks eating. I would definitely go again! read more

Tried this place out for the first time tonight. The restaurant was completely empty the entire time we were there and appears to be a little hole in the wall except I speculate it gets a lot of business during the lunch hour being across from the Thomasville government buildings. Our family had steak tacos, pork and cheese papusas, and steak quesadillas. It was all excellent, including the accompanying sides. Our visit here exceed our expectations and we will likely be back next time we are hungry and in Thomasville! read more

Love this place! Agree with others that it definitely looks like a dive, hole-in-the-wall kind of place but love the traditional Salvadorian food and warm pleasant service. I've not been able to break away from ordering the papusas any time I go so can only speak on those but they are great. I've tried all flavors and love layering them. Not sure why one review complained about price because I felt these were very well priced. I do want to give other menu items a try one of these days.
