Pancho Villas is the epitome of consistent Mexican food here in the Triad. This is our go to spot for Mexican as it is always a positive experience. The service is good as the staff is friendly and prompt on checking on you or refilling your chips and salsa. Ambiance is friendly although it was a bit cold the day we went so we left our jackets on throughout dinner. Business there is typically steady so if you go at a peak time there may be a wait. We went at 5:30 on a Friday and got right in but by the time we left around 7, the wait was a few people deep. The food is always good and portions are large. As with most Mexican places, they start you off with chips and salsa. The chips do not have salt on them so you may need to add it if you enjoy a salted chip. The salsa is good and not very spicy although my wife who doesn't do spice said it was a little much for her. I had the Cocina plate which is chicken, shrimp, and steak with onions, peppers, mushrooms, and cheese sauce over rice. This is my go to as it's delicious and always hits the spot. My wife had a fajita quesadilla that was overflowing with meat and veggies and she really enjoyed. We tried some of their Paloma drinks this last time which were very strong but had good flavor. read more

If you're down on South Main St in High Point and are looking for Mexican food, this is a safe bet. It's nothing over the top, but on par with all the other local Mexican spots. They have an extensive lunch menu, reasonable prices with good portions. Service is good, and food fills the craving. I went looking for a New Mexican restaurant only to realize, once I got there, that I'd been here before. However, no complaints because the last time, I'd had the Pancho's Tacos and they were so good. So I decided to order the tacos de alambre. Great choice. 3 steak tacos on corn tortillas (my choice) topped with fresh guacamole, rice and beans. This was more than enough for 1 meal. The tacos were so delicious. They actually come with not 1 but 2 corn tortillas so that makes a more secure fold as these are really stuffed. So good!! My only complaint was the service. I was seated quickly and drink order taken. I got an unsweetened tea with little or no ice. Fortunately the table across from me was loaded with kids and parents being constantly waited on so I was able to get a server to bring me some ice. Fortunately they also brought it with more tea as I never would have gotten a refill. I never saw my server the rest of the meal. In fact, I had to flag another server down to get a to-go box. I then pushed my plates to the edge so they'd see I was finished but no one brought a ticket. Finally I went up to the counter to pay without a ticket. Spice is real!!!! Just driving in the middle of nowhere and stumbled upon this restaurant. It was very clean-but cold. Service was good. My friend ordered the spiciest Mexican shrimp meal I had ever tasted. Muy bueno! Turned out great because we both had sinus issues and the shrimp made a huge difference. It came with rice and beans. Pancho Villas is one of many Mexican restaurants to call High Point home, but its size and menu offerings help it stand out from the pack. The fact that it was moderately crowded a little past two on a Sunday afternoon speaks to its value and general competence as much as it does to its popularity. "Big" seems to define Pancho Villas in several regards. There is plenty of parking, plenty of seating, and plenty to choose from on the menu. These offerings include the usual suspects (tacos, burritos, fajitas, etc.) as well as a few dishes I've yet to see elsewhere. Elote (street corn) is offered here in breaded bite form, and the menu also boasts of red snapper with diablo sauce and fried Cornish hen. From light to heavy, mild to spicy, and vegetarian to omnivorous, there seems to be something for everyone here. The "somethings" I had occasion to try for my first visit were the aforementioned elote bites and a monster chile verde wet burrito. The former were amazing: crunch on the outside and cheesy on the inside with just a hint of sweetness. The burrito was appreciably substantial and appropriately slathered (in lettuce, cheese, sour cream, and guac). The pork inside was cut in smaller pieces than typical for this dish, but it was no less flavorful. Nothing on the plate struck a false note. For the amount of food, Pancho Villas' pricing is more than fair. My burrito (which easily yielded leftovers) came in at $9 while the elote bites (app-sized for two) were $7. As mentioned, it was fairly busy during the visit (and therefore a but loud), but service was up to the task. Pancho Villas is not the best Mexican restaurant I've encountered nor is it the most convenient, but it is a tasty, wallet-friendly option worth going out of the way for should specific cravings (a.k.a. elote bites) hit. read more

Our crew goes here quite often! We love everything about this place, the food is always amazing & freshly cooked. The staff are always very nice and quick, they check on us frequently to see if we need refills, more chips or salsa and they never rush us. The environment is always very clean and put together. We normally get seated pretty quick unless they are super busy, and we have more than 16 crew members with us. Not only do we eat here for business lunches, but we also eat here on family outings such as lunch and dinner. We get the same kind of service and so do our children. 10/10 recommend. Having grown-up in a home with a mom from Laredo TX, Mexican food might as well be home cooking. That said I'm a big fan of Pancho Villas, or as we call it Carnitaville. Why Carnitaville? Because this is one of the few places in the Triad where you will find delicious carnitas; which are as close to course-chopped Lexington-Style BBQ as you'll find at a Mexican place. The owners are a family from the Northern Mexican state of Chihuahua, which is where the Man Pancho Villa was once Governor, and where carnitas had their start. Our other favorites are the fish tacos, which are made with a tasty fried white fish, and the Especial de la Cocina (Special of the kitchen). The Especial de la Cocina is a little bit of everything (chicken, steak and shrimps) over rice, with a cheese sauce and I love to eat it with corn chips. The service IS a bt slower than the other local favorite, La Hacienda, but the food is hands-down forth whatever wait you encounter. Be careful not to fill-up on the corn chips, because it's easy to build a large "corn ball" in your belly if you aren't careful. One last hint for the local tongue" The l's in the name are silent! It's pronounced "Poncho Vee-ah". Google it and you'll learn a ton about the man who the place is named after, Pancho Villa. read more

I am new to this place. I'm trying to find a good place to get carnitas. The pork was not fatty and it had a good flavor and you got a lot of meat. The only bad thing I have to say is they put a jalapeño in the to go plate and the juice got all over my tacos. I can't have spicy food so I had to throw the tacos away. Visiting High Point for daughter's Freshman orientation. We were looking for something to eat after 8:00 pm, and everything pretty much closes up at 9:00. Found this gem open until 10. Let me tell you, the food was AMAZING. Super quick! Would highly recommend for anyone looking for authentic Mexican cuisine. They have a very large selection of food. We had 2 orders of the Tacos de Alambre and 1 order of the Tacos Baja-Style. Between all 3 meals, it cost around $30 which is amazing! The parking lot and building to this place is very large and can easily sit a lot of hungry people even during the virus when they have to close down half of their tables to distance people apart. The inside sanitation is phenomenal and very clean atmosphere with staff wanting to assist your every need. The Tacos de Alambre was our favorite. The steak was a hair dry, but very good!! Even from 2 tacos I was already full. The tortillas weren't dry, guacamole was tasty, and the salsa and chips were excellent! The bacon was actually really good in this dish! Tacos Baja-Style - the cilantro made it taste extra fresh, but the meat was alright. We liked the steak more.
