Typically, I would never leave a negative review without ensuring that I tried to place a couple more times to prevent vocalizing bad experience when it could've been a one off. With what I learned, I just can't see myself going back and anybody who has Alpha-Gal syndrome, you may want to really think twice about what you ordered here. I ordered a vegetarian combo meal and got the food, I ate it and about a half hour later I was on the toilet, and it was not a fun night. I called the restaurant the next day because I've had this happen to me before, although with this place, I ordered through GrubHub so I wasn't able to ask questions, but you assume when something is listed as vegetarian that it actually is. Anyway, the refried beans are sometimes fried and vegetable oil, sometimes fried and lard. The day that I ordered mine, well all week they had been fried and lard which makes them not vegetarian. When you stop consuming those types of animal byproducts your stomach doesn't know how to digest them so I had this food and my body immediately was like what's going on and sure enough trying to reject it. Somebody who has Alpha Gal syndrome like I mentioned earlier can get super sick from this, like it could have serious detrimental effect on them. read more

We always get cheese enchiladas ordered this way and unfortunately the restaurant didn't see the request and we got beef. The driest beef enchiladas I have ever tasted. All that was inside was beef in a tortilla with sauce on top. Even if my vegetarian guests did not get to eat their meals, they weren't missing anything. I never been to this restaurant until yesterday. I really enjoyed everything from how I was greeted at the front, seating, the waitress and the food. The food was delicious. I will only eat here for Mexican foods if I come to high point. The prices were reasonable as well. There was a guy who came to us later and asked how was the food. I love San Luis. They have been a staple since moving to the area 15 yrs ago. The service has always been spot on and our waiter last night had a great sense of humor. I ordered a Mt. Dew and it tasted a little on the flat side. When I asked if I could get something different he said it was his fault bc he used bottom shelf tequila. When he returned with a Dr Pepper he said it should be much better because he used top shelf tequila for it. A sense of humor goes a long way. My food has always been great every time I've eaten here. Last night I decided to get dessert. All I can say is OMG. I ordered the banana chimichanga . I could've really used some help eating this. 2 tortillas stuffed with bananas, fried, rolled in cinnamon and sugar and served with ice cream, whipped cream, and drizzled with cherry and chocolate syrup. This is a typical American Mexican restaurant. It can get very busy especially on the weekends but definitely worth the wait. We love this place for Mexican food. Quesadillas here are huge, with lots of meat jammed in them. Aqua Fresca is always good and they have ones outside of the basic Jamika and Horchata, like pineapple and cantaloupe. The staff is always professional and good. Plenty of space inside. One time I left my phone in the parking lot and found it using findmyiphone, and the staff kept the phone inside for me until the next day. Just good people and good food. read more

The ambiance is that of most Mexican restaurants. The one thing I'll say that I thought was great is they have a screen they can bring down for presentations. I haven't seen that in many places. I ordered Arroz Con Camarones. It was good and fresh, but it's not as good as Shrimp Peluza at La Hacienda. It just wasn't as tasty, something with the cheese. Everyone else seemed to be satisfied with their food. One person ordered a margarita, and it was impressive. It looked delicious. I was honestly a tad bit disappointed in this restaurant. From the reviews and ratings on this restaurant I expected so much more than what I experienced. Upon arrival I noticed that the parking lot (which isn't big) was full-- mainly from patrons of San Luis. This was a good sign to me and I was excited! When my husband and I walked in we stood at the counter and the hostess "greeted" us if you would like to call it that. Honestly, she was far from friendly. I would describe her as cold with almost a grimace on her face (definitely not someone I'd want as the first person my customers come into contact with) it set a bad tone for the first noted experience of the restaurant. Upon leaving she made eye contact but did not speak to say have a good night, I still wished her a good evening and we left. Once seated, we ordered tacos and chori dip (something light in case we weren't happy). My beef hard tacos were not bad and the salsa was cold and fresh with good flavor. My husbands hard chicken tacos were BLAND they almost looked boiled with no seasoning, hardly any color. He was very disappointed. His margarita was mostly mixer and the chori dip wasn't bad. I've just recently discovered San Luis and it has quickly become my favorite TexMex restaurant. I am on a vegetarian diet and it's kind of difficult to find much variety of foods that fit that description. I love taco salads because I enjoy the crunch of the shell, so I ordered one without the meat, asking for just beans, rice, and a couple of other toppings. They seem to bend over backward to fill my order the way I ask without it being a problem. Not so with the other restaurants in the area. The food is good, and I really like their salsa. I highly recommend this restaurant if you're looking for fresh and authentic Mexican food. The quality of the food is top notch and service was speedy. I got a vegetarian version of combo #1, which included a been and cheese taco, two cheese enchiladas, and refried beans. The taco shell tasted like it was freshly made and the consistency of the cheese in the enchiladas was just right. It was soft enough to eat easily, but firm enough not to turn the enchiladas into a pile of mush. The horchata was off the hook. Horchata is a sweet, spiced, milky drink. Seriously delicious. And my server gave me free refills, which doesn't always happen with this drink. I came in with a slightly high-maintenance request. I had a coupon from the Attractions coupon book that specified that I could get a combo (1-27) for free with the purchase of another. I asked if I could choose from the vegetarian combos and still use my coupon, and they said no. However they offered to make a vegetarian version of one of the included combos. So it all worked out. My meal was only $8.99, which was a great value. The decor, dish-ware, and atmosphere was colorful and inviting. It was also clean! The only negative I have on this place is that the salsa is extremely garlicy. So, if you plan to eat a bunch of salsa, don't try to kiss anyone after (unless, perhaps, they also had the salsa). Manager is a rude man. Ordered here from door dash my food was cold and not correct and had everything in it I asked not to be. When I called he said not his problem shouldn't order from door dash that way I can check my order. This is our go to for Mexican food. My wife prefers their chicken dishes because they have very good grilled option. Salsa is great, service is always quick and they always get our take out orders right. One other key thing is they allow you to alter orders, i.e. order a different kind of sauce on an enchilada or burrito. Having never heard of them, but being just down the street from the movie theater, I couldn't resist stopping in with their 4 1/2 star rating in such a short time! The place is well decorated, not such bright annoying colors you find at most places as these, and kept pretty clean as they're constantly sweeping and tidying up. The chips and salsa was a pleasant surprise! The chips were fresh, and the salsa was a bit thicker than most and just some unbelievable flavors! Seeing as I was expecting this to be a bit Americanized, I went all in with the experience and ordered the deep fried Pollo enchiladas! They were absolutely amazing! Plenty of shredded meat, a crunchy tortilla from the frying, a nice helping of tomatoes/onions on top, and covered in a delicious cheese sauce! The accompanying beans and rice were a notch above average, and left me thinking about how lucky I was to discover this place on a whim! Finally got around to trying the third location of this small local chain of excellent Mexican restaurants, and was not in least disappointed, it is at least the equal of the two in Greensboro. It is the only one that is not in a free standing building, and the small strip center where it is located has a small parking lot which could be a problem at peak times. The restaurant itself is well sized. We ordered the Carnitas Dinner (of course) with a cost of $9.99, the Carne Asada Especial (lunch portion at $8.99), and a single Chicken Enchilada ($1.99). While we waited on our food, we munched on the always present chips and salsa, and the salsa here is excellent - slightly chunky, well spiced but not overly hot, with a very nice fresh cilantro presence. As usual, we ate too much of this, but what the heck, it's good food. The Carnitas Dinner was well sized, with a nice amount of tender, tasty pork topped with perfectly grilled onion, along with rice, beans, pico de gallo, guacamole salad, and of course tortillas (I prefer the flour ones). Everything was very good to excellent, with the exception of the beans, which were on the bland side. I would not hesitate to order this dish again. The Carne Asada was huge, and this was the lunch portion, with a very large amount of beef, topped with a large grilled green onion, a chile toreado (your basic jalapeno), Mexican cheese, grilled cactus leaves. Also on the platter were rice, beans, pico de gallo, avocado salad, and tortillas - making this monster meal, and a great value at lunch. Everything was very good, except the beans - not bad, just bland - and the grilled green onion, the chile toreado, and the cactus raised the bar on the complexities of taste and texture of this relatively simple beef dish, They use thinly sliced sirloin here, and while it was good, the usual skirt steak is a better choice, resulting in more tender slices. The chicken in the enchilada was excellent, the onion and peppers added a lot, but I would prefer Verde Sauce, rather than their brown enchilada sauce. The service was very friendly, engaging, and attentive, adding to the overall enjoyment of the meal. We'll be back, and the Molcajete will be the order then. read more

Well, where to begin. We went last night for mine and my sisters' birthdays. The service was horrible we sat with empty drinks for a while every time. We were eating chips and salsa waiting on our food and there were 2 small white curly hairs in 2 separate bowls of salsa. The waiter proceeds to tell us they are cilantro stems and its fine. So, we were done with the salsa but still kind of looking forward to our food. I got my San Loius Fundido with extra cheese. My plate did not have extra cheese it looked just like my nephews who got the same thing without extra cheese. The waiter did bring it on the said but after about 5 bites I then pulled a very long black hair out of my plate. Needless to say I was most definitely done eating after that! They got my nieces plate wrong. She ordered a burrito that came with smothered cheese and there wasn't a drop of cheese on her plate when she asked they said oh no that doesn't come with cheese. The menu clearly states that it does. Then we get to dessert they come over with the sombreros and start singing Happy Birthday, which was very nice until the waiter took it upon himself to put whip cream on my nose, cheek and forehead. Who does that. You don't just put food on people's faces especially a stranger. Very weird to me. They did take my meal off the bill but I did not get to eat. When TX Roadhouse let us down we took our party here. They quickly set up a table for us. The drinks were great. Monster margarita $14.99 and a bucket of Dos X's $10. The food was great. Don't underestimate the beef chimichanga. It was so good. The waiter was so slow though. He wasn't personable and very serious. He is like that every time I've been there. He is not mean just not social. And did I say slow? You must try the molcajete. A la diabla (spicy). $25 for two. It has chicken, steak, chorizo, shrimp, cheese, hot dogs, cactus and fried fish. I love to be blown away by some really good authentic Mexican food and I know a lot of people really love this place but unfortunately it just didn't do it for me. We went with some neighbors and their children so we were a pretty big party however even though service was very nice & friendly, food service was very slow and most of the orders got mixed up. Their chips and salsa were decent and unfortunately I did not get to sample the guacamole because that is a huge deal for me. I had a pretty healthy dish consisting of grilled chicken and vegetables over rice & beans. Nothing to sneeze at yet it wasn't terrible but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here again. read more
