I ordered ahead through their website and my order was ready when I arrived at the requested time and the food was exactly as ordered. I tried the chori queso as an appetizer and it was delicious, not too spicy. The pupusas were just as tasty as the last time I had them. Hands down, El Camino Real is THE best Mexican restaurant in the triad - I said what I said! Off the beaten path, you'll find this spot in a trip mall off market street. Their space is small but worth the wait if they're busy. Their staff is extremely friendly and helpful if you have questions about the menu. The food is out of this world. You're getting authentic Mexican cuisine with every bite and I love that they give you two kinds of hot sauces with your meal in addition to your standard chips and salsa. The quality of meat and cook on each dish is perfect and one complaint I always have about Mexican restraints is they never put enough queso on the food that requires it. Well, not Camino real. Yea it has some of the Tex-Mex usuals but the other dishes, it feels like their home recipes - which is one of the reasons we love to dine there. This place is always a favorite go to spot for delicious consistent Mexican food in the triad. Inside is small but don't be fooled, the food is fantastic and the menu is vast. They have a wonderful lunch menu as well and it doesn't break the bank! My new favorite is the lunch taco salad fajitas. The salad has an unbelievable amount of fajita meat and it's under 10.00. My recent visit I had my favorite cheese enchiladas. I am a purist and they don't disappoint. I do love the street tacos as well. Looking through the yelp photos makes me want to go back and try something new. If you have not tried this place and you love Mexican food like I do, you should put them on your list. First impression as you walk in, or look at images of the menu: AUTHENTIC! First impressions when you bite into your food: They nailed the first impression! I had the lingua, tripa, pez, and Pastor tacos. My family had the California burrito, chicken and beef tacos, and the Enchiladas Mexicanos with mole and salsa verde. We also added a side of guac and chips. Guac: thin mixed avocado and perfectly sized chunks mixed in with the tomato and seasonings. An absolute must! The 4 tacos I ate were succulent to say the least. The tripa was thin and crispy, but you could taste the rendered fat in them. It had the texture of perfectly cooked bacon. Al pastor is one of my favorites and this one did not disappoint. Then there was the pez taco that was just the right amount of crispy without being an iota overcooked. At last I ate the lingua taco. It melted in my mouth and I immediately wanted another. I don't even like mole sauce, but I couldn't stop eating the mole enchilada. Aces, hands down. The California burrito was phenomenal and had the perfect amount of each ingredient and a delectable amount of heat and sweet cream sauce. The chicken was obviously hand shredded and had equal amounts of larger chunks of meat and thin pulled pieces to soak up all the flavor in endless nooks and crannies. If you have not been here please do your palate a flavor and stop in. The value far exceeded the price of our meals and we plan on coming here every year when the World Ninja finals come to town. read more

This is one rare gem that isn't the biggest restaurant, but it makes up for that in quality, price, and service. This was our first time there and when you walk in, this just feels like it's authentic Mexican everything. The waitstaff took their time to explain any questions you may have, the prices are family friendly, and there is soft music in the background not overpowering your conversation at the table. We had a wide variety of everything. My dad had 3 different flavored tacos from beef to chorizo (don't remember his theif pick sorry). My mom had chimichanga and burrito. And I had 3 Mexican style tortillas with mole' sauce. All 3 of our plates were equally top notch! Absolutely delicious. When we got inside there was only 3 tables, including us, that were occupied. Working 20 minutes there weren't enough tables from the amount of people coming in. However, the staff does a great job turning over tables as fast as they can in a professional manner. The service was excellent. And I was really impressed with the food. I had a combination, chicken burrito, chicken, quesadilla, and a Chalupa. It was all delicious, but their idea of a Chalupa is what I think of as a tostada. A crispy corn flat tortilla. My understanding is that Chalupa's are made of corn flour, but they're soft not crunchy. Anyway, everything was really tasty, including the standard issue salsa. It's probably the best standard issue salsa I've had in Greensboro. And the spicy salsas (red and green...you have to ask for them) are very good also. I was very pleased. How has it taken me so very long to come here! We came in on a Sunday evening with low to no expectations and were blown away. We parked in back (thanks Waze) and were seated right away. The place is cute: it has a very 'we are a Mexican place' vibe. Our server was amazing! My dad got a huge burrito with steak chicken and shrimp, my partner got a vegetarian combo and I had mole cheese enchiladas and they were incredible: smoky mole that tasted like it was developed over hours, crisp veggies, seasoned to perfection rice and beans. I want to say that the service here is prompt and very friendly. No complaints there. The chips, salsa and queso are all very good. I have to say I was really unsatisfied with the tacos here. Asada is close to flavorless and cubed up very lean meat. Chorizo was mushy. I'm used to Chorizo being fried up well done and having a bright spicy taste. Al Pastor was also very mushy, and the flavor of it and somewhat the Chorizo was more akin to smoky, sweet curry than bright citrusy spicy Mexican. If you are looking for well done authentic tacos, this isn't the place. If you are pleased with Arroz con Pollo, Fajitas, or more Americanized Mexican food I think you will be pleased with this place. read more

I was hesitant to eat at a Mexican restaurant in NC since I'm from El Paso, TX a border town. I was very pleasantly surprised, this place is legit!! I had the mole enchiladas and they were right on! The Modelo Negro draft beer was super cold, just the way it should be. Salsa with the chips was just a little "picoso" and flavorful. Don't let the outside fool you, this cozy establishment located in a strip mall on spring garden street packs a punch. Try one of the $4 drink specials - on the day I visited it was the strong tequila sunrise. Hot chips and tasty salsa arrive as soon as you are seated and are refilled as many times as you want. Don't miss this place. They are the best Mexican spot in town! Their margaritas are incredible. A pitcher is reasonably priced and we can easily enjoy two of them. Their guac is awesome as you can tell it is fresh. It is a small establishment, so there may be a wait. However, it is always worth it. I thought we would be the only people there that early but were surprised when we opened the door! It was almost full! We found a seat quickly and were greeted warmly. We were hoping this was the real deal... We went to this place hoping they were the traditional Mexican restaurant that all the reviews were praising on Google. For us, it lacked the authentic taste and unfortunately fell into the same category as so many other Mexican restaurants in the Triad area. We're coming from Arizona and maybe being a border state, we have unrealistic expectations, but sadly even the general taste and freshness of the meal wasn't "return worthy". I really wish it was different because we had high hopes but alas the search continues... That is the critical part though, I can say the service and staff were really pleasant and there's nothing but good things to say about the service and even the check-out was pleasant. Smiling faces, good attitudes, moderate prices, cozy environment got an impromptu Thursday date night... These were all a solid 3+ stars. If they get a bit closer to "real Mexican" food, we'd be ready to give them another shot at being a regular go-to spot for us! :) read more

Visiting from out of town, we chose this restaurant because of its 4.5-star rating and were excited to try it. The chips, salsa, and guacamole were excellent. However, shortly after our food arrived (we both ordered chicken fajitas), I discovered a hair in my refried beans. I discreetly informed our waitress, who promptly took the plate and returned with a fresh serving of beans. I also asked for extra tortillas, as the hair was found while I was assembling a wrap. When checking out, I quietly asked if a discount had been applied due to the issue with my food. The cashier initially said yes. However, after reviewing the bill--approximately $44 plus tip for two people--I inquired again. The cashier then clarified that the "discount" was the additional tortillas, which are typically included with a fajita order anyway. This explanation was disappointing. Given the situation, I expected some form of genuine compensation--at the very least, a partial discount. Because of this experience, I cannot recommend this restaurant and am unlikely to return. read more

We use to like El Camino Real, but last night was probably our last visit. There are so many great Mexican restaurants around Greensboro, so why settle. We were seated promptly, with maybe eight empty tables, so by no means crowded. It took almost ten minutes for them to take our drink orders, which included a frozen Margarita for me. Another ten minutes for our water to arrive and without the requested lime and no sign of the Margarita. Oh and let's not forget the fake eyelash that was on the table and stuck to my arm. Gross! Our waiter was impossible to flag down to ask for my Margarita and our food order was taking forever. Again, not crowded. I finally got up to ask for my drink. The waiter comes to our table ten minutes later and says, I forgot, what kind of Margarita did you want. When it finally arrived, it looked like frothy Mountain Dew. It tasted like a lime lifesaver, with no detectable tequila. My wife tasted it and said it was the worst excuse for a Margarita she had ever had. Food finally arrived and it was pretty good. Our waiter never once came by to refill our waters or ask if we needed anything, which we did. With restaurant prices so high these days and many other choices of eateries, I will not go to a place that stresses me out, is not an enjoyable experience and then expects a minimum of a twenty percent tip.
