Food was texmex at best, nothing authentic at all. Walked in, receptionist was on the phone. No acknowledgement that we were there for several minutes. Just talked on phone and during most of our visit she walked around with the phone to her ear. Another waitress finally came and seated us. There were only one set of customers in the place. She brought our drinks right away. I went to bathroom. Clean enough but no lock on one of the stalls. Took her a long time to take our order. We ordered the dinner for 2 and there was plenty of food but nothing outstanding. Except the sweet tea. It was delicious. Took her forever to bring the check. Just an overall disappointment! This small spot has a colorful if somewhat shabby exterior, in full accord with the surrounding area! The interior follows suit with low lighting and dark ceilings. There are a number of colorful wall paintings reflecting various Mexican themes, including bullfighting! The service was just ok, not at all engaging, and more than little language shaky, and less than fully focused otherwise. Getting the check took waaaaaay too long, actually paying at the cashier was also a rather lengthy process, with folks being seating who arrived after my appearance at the register. The complimentary chips and salsa arrived with a cold Corona along side. The salsa was rather chunky with a good amount of chopped white onion and a pleasant heat level. I ordered the Quesobirria Tacos ($16.99), and since it was not listed on the printed menu, I ask what, if anything, came with it. The spoke word was obviously a problem here, so I ask again, and was splutteringly told yet again, that it came with rice and beans - more on this later! The tacos were loaded with very flavorful, shredded beef, topped with chopped white onion and cilantro that was more than a bit beyond its " use by date"! The tacos had only one tortilla, light grilled at best, and came apart very quickly, requiring the use of silver ware. The overall flavor was very, very nice though, with the small amount of consommé being a real flavor booster, loaded with red chili seeds, with a nice red color. The rice and beans were barely warm, a situation I have often noted at Mexican restaurants when those items are plated separately from the entree. As to the rice and beans, there was a $3.50 charge labeled "open food" on the bill, and was told on inquiry that it was the charge for the rice and beans - not happy with that! I recently got takeout from here and was so impressed! If you're looking for classic, old-school Mexican comfort food, this is the place. The prices are incredibly reasonable, and the portions are massive--I definitely had more than I could eat! I ordered the vegetarian bean burrito, cheese enchilada, and tostada, and everything tasted wonderfully authentic. My husband raved about his chicken burrito. The salsa was very flavorful and a great accompaniment to the meal. The only minor critique is that the food was a little too salty overall. Despite the saltiness, the great value, huge portions, and satisfying comfort food flavors make this a spot I highly recommend! We will be back for sure. read more

I came into day for lunch. This was probably my 5th or 6th time here. This place is fairly typical and Americanized. That being said, I've never had anything bad. It's what you'd expect. I ordered camarones a la diabla (lunch portion). Shrimp sautéed in a spicy sauce with 2 flour tortillas, rice, and beans, and a typical Mexican salad (lettuce, tomato, guacamole.) The shrimp were amazing, but could have been a bit hotter. Great flavor though. The rice and beans were average. Chris was our server and he was super friendly and available The inside of the place is average. In some ways it appears slightly run-down, but it's not terrible or anything. Not bad for a Mexican food craving fix. Great service, great for big groups, good chips and salsa too. I ordered beef chilaquiles, it was a bit rich in red sauce but chilaquiles is a very personal thing. My husband got the California burrito and enjoyed it. Just not quite there with authentic Mexican for me, still on the search for "the one". But it does satisfy the craving and I would come back. When I read the reviews, I almost called my friend and asked her to pick another place, but decided to roll the dice. Maybe we came on a good night, but we were very pleased. I ordered the carnitas tacos and they were especially good and very filling. My friend was very happy with her dish as well. We also ordered margaritas--she got the frozen peach and I got a regular rocks margarita with Patron...and it definitely wasn't weak lol. Service was fine, our server came quickly and was attentive without being annoying. And maybe I have lower standards but I didn't notice a foul odor and our immediate area was definitely clean. I don't know if these other reviewers came on bad days or if the owner has been paying attention to reviews and made improvements, but it was clean, the food was very good and the service was fine. The only complaint I have is that the salsa was terrible. Which surprised me because usually if the salsa is bad--and good salsa is easy to make, so no excuses here--then the food is almost always bad. Not the case here...but please, owners/managers/cooks--do something about the nasty thick salsa, which is mostly straight up tomato sauce--no tomatoes, onions, cilantro, jalapeños or even chilies--just thick, nasty barely seasoned tomato sauce. Incidentally, the sauce for the carnitas tacos was excellent. I would pay to have a larger bowl of that over the free goopy stuff. Everything else is fine and that's an easy fix. read more

The presentation was nice, but the steak in my burrito had a lot of gristle, which always turns me off from the rest of the meal The burrito had rice in it, but where I asked for a side of rice, they didn't put rice in the burrito.. not sure if it was a misunderstanding, but it resulted in refried bean overload for me. They sat us down and grabbed our order, which I got chicken & shrimp fajitas (which isn't an option so I got charged for chicken, shrimp, & steak which was fine) once we received our food our server no longer came to check on us but to get give us our checks. The chicken was only the part that was good about the whole ordered. The shrimp had an really bad taste which I couldn't enjoy at all.. the beans tasted off like they were canned beans. I informed my sever about the shrimp and just kind of shrugged it off. I don't recommend unless you want to waste your $$ and have a bad food experience. read more

Usually never have any complaints about this restaurant but the other day me and my guests along with a puppy wanted to dine in. The restaurant is listed under "pet friendly restaurants" so we called to confirm. We spoke with a John I believe and he said it was okay to bring the puppy since there is an outdoor patio. We arrive at the restaurant and the manager says we aren't allowed to have dogs even though we told him we called to confirm AND the restaurant is listed as pet friendly. Me and my guests were highly disappointed and left. If a restaurant isn't pet friendly then don't list it under that option and train the employees a tad better. read more

Came in on a Sunday around 7:30ish. Ordered 3 A.C.P (that tasted like dish soap) My fiancé order a JUMBO Texas Margarita that had no taste to it at all. A coworker and myself came here after a mid day craving for salsa. We literally saw it and whipped the car in. I should have pulled up my yelp! Bless it yall. The place stinks, literally. It looks extremely old and run down. The food was terrible. My friend got a fried tortilla shell with beans on it and they tried to pass it off as some amazing dish.
